Six of us spent 9 days at this resort. Not much beach because of the reefs and damage from hurricanes etc. So if you like to walk the beach you will have to go over to the public beach which can be busy and you must leave the resort to get to that beach. Very close to town and we walked to the Jolley Rodger to support the Canadian owners. Food was cheap and good. Bought a couple of t-shirts that didn't break the bank. Food is average including ala carte. But try to get to the International especially when they are serving the steak. Bar and wait staff are amazing and very friendly, frankly they gave the impression that they could care less if you tipped but were very thankful and told you so when you did. We didn't have any high end alcohol but we were just as happy with what was offered. There are different levels when booking this resort. We were happy to see that people that did not pay for the Select section were asked to leave the area. This was a last minute change that we made because of reading reviews and having prior experience at a different resort in Puerta Plata. We sure did make a create decision choosing this resort. Would recommend and would certainly return.

Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Love this resort

This resort is huge and there is plenty to do, tons of amazing restaurants and lots of yummy cocktails!!! Pool options, palm trees and an ocean breeze!!! We loved the sushi, Brazilian and Mexican restaurants and the handmade pizza at Bellini is incredible! The staff are friendly, accommodating, and always smiling. Definitely recommend.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Another wonderful stay

The Senator is our resort choice once again. This was a 28 day stay that didn’t disappoint. Good food, comfortable beds, and lots to do thanks to the animation crew. Beautiful beaches and pools.The sports bar a necessity for the sports fan

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Hidden gem

Staff were great, food was great, rooms were clean , cleaning the resort constantly, I expected a basic resort but surprisingly it exceeded my expectations! Beach was clean, nice pool, a la carte were delicious Thanks for recommending Louise !

Playabachata Hotel: Great Resort

This resort was nice, clean, very friendly staff. The entertainment crew with Chocolate, Sky, Happy Boy and Donkey and the rest, were over the top hard working to keep us all laughing at the pool. The food variety was good, except they could have more bacon. Most of the servers were always happy and helpful. Rooms were nice and very clean. Grounds were being cleaned all day, every day. Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Amazing Resort

We just returned from the Lifestyles Resort & Spa in the Dominican Republic, and it was great! It was my first time going to the Dominican Republic with my husband and good friend, and it did not disappoint. The weather was fantastic—nothing below +28, but it was very humid . We stayed around the adults-only pool because the ocean was very nasty, with huge waves and a lot of algae on the beach. The food was your typical buffet, with lots to choose from therefore you will not go hungry.  [... read more]We decided to take in an "a la cart" restaurant so we chose the Brazilian and it was such a nice experience, with the waiters bringing you the meats on a large skewer to your table, the meats included were chicken, turkey, pork ribs, steak and to finish a pineapple dessert and it was all delicious. The only downfall here was 2 things first - the peacocks, they sounded like 10 male cats fighting, they were very loud noisy birds but beautiful to see at the same time. And second, the good people that worked at the spa, they don't leave you alone they were obnoxious!!! Rooms were cleaned every day, the bottled water was replenished also everyday, the grounds were beautiful, and the day beds were also changed on a daily basis. The buffet napkins smelled like fleecy, yes they smelled like fleecy and so did the towels & sheets which was refreshing. All in all I will give this resort 9.5 out of 10...

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Good Resort

Grounds and rooms were clean. It is unfortunate that there is not 24 hour meal options. I was extremely impressed with the pool loungers. They were in excellent condition and not falling apart. The food had lots of variety.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Best resort ever

Everything was exceptional. Quick check in. Room was good. Third floor close to all amenities, pool & beach. Elevator. Customer service desk right close to all activities. No need to go to reception. Problems fixed within 5 minutes. Great food. Workers wonderful. Overall an exceptional wacation.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Nice resort

Amazing staff good food pools and resort were nice hotel needed some upgrades no hot water for 5 days mix up with are original king replacement with 2 beds 1 bed mattress needed replacing low water pressure AC worked fantastic overall the staff made the experience a pleasurable stay

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Great Time!

Was worried about going after so many recent negative reviews but everything was great. We upgraded to the Gardenview Deluxe and our rooms were fine. Dated but clean. Food was great, always found something to eat. Loved being able to go into town. My teenager would go for chips during the day and I had no worries. We got SIM cards from Claro and they worked great. Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Great Resort

We thoroughly enjoyed are stay at the resort. It was very clean. There was staff all day cleaning the resort. Our room was keep very clean and it was a nice size room for the two of us. I have nothing negative to say about our 2 weeks in the resort. The beaches were magnificant., enough chairs for everyone The food was a little repatative.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: Nice resort

The resort was very nice considering it's rated a 3.5 . Our room was comfortable. The grounds & pools were very well kept. Enjoyed the 3 small pools overlooking the ocean . The food was delicious except we didn't like the repetition of the same food every day for the entire week . We liked the idea of being able to step out into the town of Sousa which was very safe . The restaurants were great . Overall was a great holiday.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great place!

Very clean and joy to stay in resort like Iberostar. Nice pool and beautiful beach. People are nice and friendly. Room service was excellent, Carlos in the restaurant at the beach was the best. Very hard worker and very friendly.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Decent...but with some real flaws

Grounds....well maintained Main building and restaurants are nice Pools and bars are good Beach is excellent... though a few more Palapas would be helpful. Food was good. A la cartes very good. Entertainment is subpar. Very little live music. Rooms...the biggest problem. They are small, poorly laid out, few drawers, weak showers and in need of maintenance.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Meh

Nice beach. Lots of vendors who make it impossible to relax. The resort is small which I appreciated however we were stuck over across from the main area in overflow by the quiet pool. Our room was huge but backed onto a fence/roadway which was terrible. No view whatsoever and a restaurant beyond the fence with loud music and talking late into the night. Hot food is not kept hot. Not very sanitary for food. A la Carte restaurants were so bad we canceled our third. Pools are dirty and with thatched roofs over the bars the pools are full of bird poop and not well maintained. Overall dirty feeling. Beach is the best thing about this resort. The beds are hard as rock. Also you get one bottle of water and two beer in your room only every second day. No exceptions.

However, some individuals try to push their own interests, steering guests toward their friends for tours. It’s up to visitors to use their judgment when choosing who to rely on. Transportation: One major concern is the hotel’s association with a dishonest taxi service. Despite Uber being available and safe in the Dominican Republic (as confirmed by my experience and discussions with ot [... read more]hers), the hotel discourages its use. Instead, they promote their own taxi service, which operates as a "taxi cartel" charging nearly 15 times the Uber fare. For example, I booked an Uber to go downtown for DOP 175 (approximately CAD 4). However, a hotel-affiliated taxi driver picked up my ride and demanded USD 30, claiming Uber underpays them. I refused, exited the vehicle, and rebooked an Uber just outside the hotel, where I successfully completed my trip for the original fare. According to an Uber driver, this scam is common—they accept Uber rides near the hotel, then demand extra money, leading guests to believe Uber is unreliable and pushing them toward overpriced taxis. The hotel appears complicit, with staff even recommending their taxis over Uber. I have escalated this issue with Uber, and they assured me they would investigate. For alternative transport, if you're comfortable driving, consider renting a car from Alamo or National, which offer rentals for as little as CAD 45 and provide pick-up directly from the hotel lobby. Unsurprisingly, the hotel does not promote this option. Food & Drinks: The food is average and lacks variety, especially in fruits and juices. At breakfast, the juice selection was limited to a single option each day. That said, the buffet staff were fantastic. Among the à la carte restaurants, the Italian restaurant stood out as the best. Regarding drinks, if you enjoy fruity and sweet cocktails, you’ll be fine. However, for premium spirits like whiskey on the rocks, expect to pay USD 6 per shot of JW Black or USD 80+ per bottle. If you’re particular about your drinks, I recommend taking a taxi into town to purchase a bottle at a more reasonable price. Rooms: Room quality varies. The hotel, nearly 40 years old, is in serious need of maintenance. Many rooms have peeling paint, broken TVs, and non-functional phones. However, since most people don’t spend much time in their rooms, these issues might not be deal-breakers. Entertainment & Atmosphere: The entertainment crew is great, and many guests speak highly of them. However, the hotel lacks a proper sports bar. The only option is a small, poorly maintained black-and-white-themed sports bar in the lobby, equipped with outdated 32” TVs—one of which is so broken that the LEDs are fully visible. Again, maintenance is clearly lacking. Another thing to note is that the hotel mostly attracts an older crowd. It seems more suited for retirees than younger travelers or families looking for an active and vibrant atmosphere. If you’re looking for a lively resort with a mix of age groups, this might not be the best choice. Location & Beach: The beach is beautiful, with nice water, but not the best I’ve seen. I’d rate it a 7/10. A common issue at this and many other resorts is chair hogging. Guests place towels on chairs early in the morning and don’t return for hours. Unfortunately, the hotel does a poor job of enforcing a two-hour no-show policy for removing abandoned towels. Final Thoughts: While the hotel has some positives, particularly its staff and entertainment team, it suffers from poor maintenance, lack of variety in food and drinks, a dishonest transportation system, and an older crowd demographic. If you plan to stay here, be aware of the taxi scam, consider alternative transportation, and manage your expectations regarding the facilities and overall vibe. It’s a quiet, relaxed place—ideal for older guests, but not the best choice if you’re looking for a lively and modern resort experience.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Loved, loved, loved!

This was our very first trip out of the country for my husband and I. The resort was amazing, everyone was so nice! The pools were beautiful and clean, the tiki bar was gorgeous, easy access to the beach and it was so nice! Our first time at the ocean, the vendors were plenty but not pesky. If you told them no they smiled and moved on. Our room was nice, a bit of an issue with noise due to backing onto what appeared to be the employee and delivery entrance. The a/c worked but only at arctic  [... read more]freeze and if we turned it off it was too humid and hot. The buffet was amazing. The food was sooo good and so much variety. The pasta station was my absolute favorite but hubby loved the omelette/egg station at breakfast. We loved Rosa greeting us every day at the buffet entrance and she was so helpful if we were looking for some water or coffee. Entertainment was great! I loved watching the dancing and they were so great at getting people to join in the fun. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are planning on booking this again next year and taking our teenagers this time.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: ABS0LUTELY BEAUTIFUL!

BEAUTIFUL RESORT, , SAFE, CLEAN, VERY FRENDLY AND POLITE, , FOOD WAS DELICIOUS , SERVICE WAS GREAT, THE SHOWS WERE GREAT, THE BEACH WAS CLEAN AND MANY LONDGE CHAIRS.BEAUTIFUL POOL, I HAD A FACIAL AND LYMPH DRAINAGE MASSAGE AND IT WAS GREAT AND VERY PROFFESSIONAL. MY HUSBAND USED THE POOL AND HE LOVED IT. WE TOOK A TAXI TO THE CITY AND THE TAXI DRIVER TOOK US ON A TOUR AND FLEA MARKET WHICH WE STAYED IN TOWN FOR DINNER AND HE STAYED WITH US ALL DAY. OUR ROOM WAS CLEANED EVERYDAY WITH CLEAN TOWELS [... read more] AND TOILETRIES AND WE HAD A BLOW DRYER. THE ONLY IDEA I WOULD LIKE , MY LEGS ARE NOT STURDY AND I WOULD OF LIKED TWO RAILINGS TO USE THE POOL OTHERWISE NO COMPLAINTS!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Belive marien

Very lovely resort, great people for staff, great food and rooms are very comfortable. The one. problem I had was all the cats roaming around the buffet for every meal. I was very uncomfortable with that, they are actually right under your feet at the table you are sitting at. That would be the only reason I would look to book another resort which is really too bad.
