Before going to this resort we read the many mixed reviews available on the internet but decided to give it a try anyway. We're very glad that we did, we had a wonderful week at the St. Lucian.
We seldom go to all inclusives and usually stay at local hotels in the countries that we visit. The St. Lucian felt very much like this... we got to know most of the staff by their first names and found out a lot about the island and local life from them. The hotel wasn't very busy while we were there [... read more]so this might be different during the peak mid-winter season.
Yes, the hotel is a bit tired in places but we always felt comfortable there and we definitely liked the idea that we were in the Caribbean... not an American style hotel plunked down on the beach. The room was basic but comfortable. Most of the other patrons were Brits over forty, many of whom were annual visitors or young families. We're retired Canadians and this suited us just fine, the evenings were quiet and we were able to really relax.
The highlight of the trip was the availability of the beach. It was right at the foot of the hotel. We could leave all of our belongings in the room and go to the beach in our swimsuits, no worrying about leaving bags or wallets on the beach while we were in the water. We also love snorkelling and there's a very good reef that runs parallel to the hill just left of the resort. A five minute walk down the beach and you're good to go. We saw dozens of varieties of fish and a moderate amount of corals, both hard and soft. The reef consists mainly of large boulders that hug the shoreline and are only about ten feet underwater... perfect for snorkelling.
All of the transfers to and from the airport to the hotel went smoothly and any problems that we had were attended to by the staff quickly.
We would definitely return to the St. Lucian by Rex for an easy, relaxing week or two.

Rex Papillon: "Great Holiday, Amazing Value for St.Lucia, Recommendedâ€
Celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary, Papillon by Rex, made it a very special occasion. First time to St.Lucia and second time staying at a Rex Resort (Halcyon Cove, Antigua Nov.2015) We would go back to the Papillon for sure and highly recommend this resort. Experienced great weather, 30+C daily, only one afternoon of rain when Hurricane Otto was active in Costa Rica and a few overnight showers. Amazing value for the last minute booking we did with Air Canada Vacations.
This resort is a [... read more]smaller resort which we like. Restaurants, bars, entertainment, pool all within a short walk . Request ground floor if you have some mobility issues, we noticed a lot of ramps added where steps were located, but access to the beach requires some ability to do a few stairs. Rooms, restaurants, public areas and pool area are non smoking, designated smoking areas are located on the beach and garden areas. Property was updated in 2015, closed for several months, rooms updated, new beds, furniture upgraded in restaurants, beach and makeover of pool. Property looked very fresh in comparison to the sister hotels (St.Lucian & Royal). Excellent value for $. More like a 4* with large pool, swim up bar, hot tub, 2 a la carts, included water sports and 2 restaurant options for lunch every day. Food was plentiful, lots of fresh local fish/sea food, salads, local Caribbean dishes, fruits and vegetables. Soups and Action Station - daily special of chef carved/grilled meats prepared fresh while you wait. Action station also provides eggs/omelets for breakfast. A la cart restaurants require men to wear closed toe shoes, collared shirt and long pants. All breakfast/lunch restaurants require t-shirts or beach cover ups over swim suits. Having food allergies, I found I was easily able to find good whole food options to eat, vegetarian options plentiful.
Staff: This is what makes this property superior. All staff members will go out of their way to insure you have the best holiday possible. Courteous and very helpful. Huge St.Lucian smiles! Thank You to all staff who made our holiday so extra special! Entertainment was limited, but mainly due to the low occupancy rate at this time. If you prefer an active holiday, you have the option to walk the beach, visit the local village of Rodney Bay, take tours, included watersports, or set something up with local vendors to parasail, jet ski, water ski, tubing, so lots to do if you want it. Staff were excited to offer pool aerobics, water volleyball, bingo and other activities if you wanted, but they will not be bugging you to join in if you are enjoying a quiet read or sleep in the sun. Water sport staff willing to take you out in Hobie Cats and instruct on use of kayaks, stand up paddle boards and snorkel equipment. Cowboy Sealy and Karaoke night were very entertaining, a must see for Monday nights. Apparently we were the longest running Karaoke night they had had yet this year, everyone had a good time
Management adapted their programs to meet our needs. Lunch on our final day, was opened early at 11:45 am (usually 12:30) so we could enjoy a final meal before leaving for the airport at 12:30. Most resorts want to move guests out to avoid any further costs, but not Rex Papillon. When we had an afternoon of showers, instead of hosting a movie night, they arranged to bring in a band to liven up our day. On our final night, they arranged for Papillon guests to share the musical entertainment at the sister St.Lucian hotel and provided guests with vouchers so they could have drinks at the St.Lucian resorts bar. We give full credit to management in making our vacation feel special, good food, plenty of options, despite low occupancy. A difficult situation to plan around, staffing, meals, but one they did to perfection.
We noticed the old pool & hot tub (butterfly shape in resort aerial photo, to the right of the main pool viewed from beach) which has been filled in and tiled over as the ideal spot for hosting special events. Not sure if management uses it this way. Ideal spot for private wedding reception, managers cocktail party or open air/under the stars outside dinner one night during the week. A serving station/bbq pit has already been installed. The easy access to both kitchen and Clippers bar area would make serving guests quite easy. The 3 gazebo areas that make up the Clipper Beach Restaurant would be ideal for covered serving stations.

Rex Papillon: Very relaxing resort!!!
We came back just last Friday, Nov. 25th from a 1 week vacation and also celebrating our 34th year anniversary. The papillon resort was great. The place has been renovated, very clean and have the best people who are so friendly and just eager to please everyone. From the reception to concierge, servers, chefs, bartenders, cleaning, entertainment staff, we only have high praises! If you're looking for ultimate relaxation, this is certainly the place. Like most people there, we enjoyed the seren[... read more]ity and quietness which we we need to escape from the busy and sometimes stressful lives we have back home. We love the food ! There's only a few varieties, but they are all tasty! We did not even go to their ala carte (Italian and oriental ) since we were more than satisfied with their delish local cuisine. The excursions were fantastic. Make sure to book with the sorfierre tours. A shout out to "prince" Charles who made it unforgettable! Try also the ziplining on such a spectacular rainforest. Overall, we were really happy and will certainly go back in a heartbeat!

Secrets St. Lucia Resort and Spa: Average everything
Had to upgrade to a Deluxe Oceanview upon arrival to have something decent. The Beachfront view I was originally in had tile flaking, bathroom was tiny, air conditional was broken, balcony was tiny and it was generally poor quality. Deluxe Oceanview was pretty good once we upgraded.
Food was average.. Pool was nice but overall resort was a solid C all around.

Secrets St. Lucia Resort and Spa: Simply The Best!
We had the pleasure of staying at the St. James Club, Morgan Bay from October 20 to October 30 this year, and we both say that without a doubt it is the finest, most comfortable and professionally operated resort we have ever visited. The entire staff from the pool cleaners to the restaurant staff to the front desk staff to the crew on their catamaran, the Calypso Cat were all genuinely friendly helpful and fun. We have been doing the Caribbean vacations for more than 25 years and this one was b[... read more]y far the best so far.
The food in all of the venues was simply excellent. The buffet restaurant offered a different menu each day for both lunch and dinner as well as a great selection for breakfast. The three a la carte restaurants, the Pier, Bambu and Hilltop were great and the high end le Jardin is as fine dining should be.
The resort has its own catamaran, the Calypso Cat, and they offer several different day trips (at added cost) that are excellent. We took the trip down the West shore to so some snorkelling and see the Pitons and had a great time. Very professional and fun crew. We also did a day trip with Joy Tours, an independent operator who works from the water sports area of the beach. Joy runs a great operation. His crew is great and because the boat is a bit smaller than the Calypso Cat (there were 15 of us on our trip) it can get closer to shore, in fact we actually went through the 'cave' that is in the first 'Pirates Of The Caribbean', then to the mud baths, volcano, his house for a wonderful lunch and then to a snorkel site at the foot of the Pitons.
We can't say enough good things about St. Lucia and the St. James Club Morgan Bay in particular. This was our first stay here but it certainly will not be our last visit. We will be back!

Rex Papillon: Great Resort!
The Papillon by Rex is the perfect sized resort. Never again will I be swayed by resorts with multiple restaurants, bars and services. The buffet at Papillon was different every day and very good quality. The bars offered daily drink specials and an extensive list of delicious made to order blended or shaken drinks. The rooms were maintained very well and exceptionally clean. Our bar fridge broke one day and was replaced within the hour. The beach is clean and being located at the end of Reduit [... read more]Bay there is litte foot traffic. If you want to leave the resort there are many bars, restaurants and shopping malls within easy walking distance. The best part of the Papillon was the staff. Besides performing their jobs exceptionally well they were all genuinely happy and a pleasure to get to know.

Rex Papillon: Awesome resort
Food was just short of the best ever I had in all inclusive resorts. Selection was not big but whatever you tasted was good. No suprises. Another great thing was the cleanliness of the room. Bed was comfortable and the bedsheets alwas clean and crisp. Beach was great. Only negative was that resort did not have espresso machine so for a coffee lover was a bit disappointing. Everithing alse was superb

Rex Papillon: Great value for the money
We travelled through Air Canada vacations. We were at the resort in October. The price for the trip was $2300 for two out of Edmonton. The resort itself is small. Hard to explain why, but we have never experienced such a friendly group of fellow travellers. We met people from the Maritimes to Alberta. The pool volleyball was so much fun with persons of all sizes, ages and gender taking part daily. The staff are all friendly, competent and hard working. The food was very good. Never left the reso[... read more]rt for a meal even though Rodney Bay has several good eating establishments within minutes walking. The water was clear, warm and the beach was great. Our room was more than adequate. The bed was very comfortable. Not recommended for young persons looking for party central. The drive from the airport is over an hour on the only two lane highway.

Secrets St. Lucia Resort and Spa: Quaint, clean, very friendly staff, older property
Location a bit far from airport. We stayed at St James bay resort in Antigua a year before and decided to pick the same resort in St Lucia. However we found it a bit older in appearance and the beach wasnt a long walking one. The bay was great for using the catamaran . The staff were very friendly and helpful, the jeep tour was great to the falls and mud baths...take a gravel if you sit in the jeep at the back though because of the windy roads. A la cart restaurant was a big disappointment. Rex Papillon: Amazing resort!
Before I left on my trip, I was a little nervous about staying at Rex Papillon due to mixed online reviews. When I got to the resort, I was pleasantly surprised. It's small but very clean and has recently undergone renovations. The view was stunning, the pool area was well taken care of and we were just a few steps away from the ocean. It's also a short walk to Rodney Bay for shopping. The food and drinks were delicious. I have some dietary restrictions and never went hungry even though there we[... read more]ren't as many options as some of the all inclusive resorts I've stayed at in the past. I visited its sister resorts which are located next door and was very happy that I spent less on my trip and stayed at the Papillon. In my opinion, it's a nicer resort. If you're looking to be entertained, this resort is not the place for you. There's not a lot of scheduled activities at the pool during the day and the entertainment in the evenings is hit or miss. I'd definitely book at this resort again.

Rex Papillon: Quiet and lovely!
Enjoyed this resort to the fullest. Sadly, we discovered a la carte on our last two night so ate at each only once. Delicious! Best restaurant dining I've had at an all-inclusive. Buffet was smaller with less selection than most resorts but in keeping with other Rex properties we've visited, we found the selection to be fresh and flavourful. Staff both friendly and respectful. Rooms very clean. A thoughtful note with a bottle of wine and decorated bed to celebrate our honeymoon were most appreci[... read more]ated. Lovely sandy beach. Unable to comment on entertainment as we are early risers and generally skip any nighttime shows.

Rex Papillon: Great resort!!!!
We just returned from the Papillon by Rex resort 2days ago. This is our forth time to aRex resort but first time in St. Lucia and the best by far. The ride to the resort took 1.5 hrs. However the ride was scenic and educational since you get to learn so much about this beautiful gem of a country. You even get to cut through the rain forest. As soon as we reached the resort we were greeted with refreshments and the check in was very speedy since we were given an envelope with everything in it. We[... read more] were taken to our room on block 2 rm.210, to our surprise we were upgraded to a full seaview room. We woke up every morning to the waves of the sea and beautiful view. Room was very clean with all the amenities. For the whole entire week we had no dissatisfaction whatsoever about anything. Everyone tried to please you any way they could. Food was great, we were very happy with the food choices. The bars seemed to be allright since we only used it for nonalchoholic drinks. The beach grill is a great touch. Everyone is so attentive from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Do make certain that you take a 220V transformer along with the special UK adaptor otherwise you have to have a 400$ deposit on your acct.and return it before you leave to have your deposit returned. We spent a beautiful week at this resort for a special occasion(25 wedding aniversary). The beach is soooo clean with enough chairs and umbrellas for everyone. Everyone is nice and very helpful. Over all it was an amazing week for us. I would definetely recommend this resort since it was recently renovated ,the grounds are beautifully manicured and a long fine sandy beach that you can go for a walk or a run. JUST AMAZING (value for the price paid!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Bay Gardens Beach Resort: Bay Gardens Beach Resort, St. Lucia 2016
Well what can I say. I had cancelled my trip with Rick Lockhart at Trip Central for personal reasons, however still received emails about the "upcoming trip" that never happened including this review request.
Even though I did not actually go on this trip to the Bay Gardens Beach Resort in St. Lucia, I have in fact been there, stayed a the sister property a few months ago and spent my days at the resort. It was clean, the people are friendly, the pool was beautiful and the ocean that the [... read more]resort is situated on it fantastic. I loved rocking on the rocking chairs in the front lobby when waiting for the shuttles...which by the way will take you to the sister property, but would let you off in town in Rodney Bay if you wanted. Either way the sister property is in town where all the restaurants and shops are including grocery stores.
If I actually get the chance to go back to St. Lucia, I would for sure stay at the Bay Gardens Beach Resort.
