Hotel Rancho Luna: Missing opportunities

The hotel has many features that are not used. Whatever is broken, they leave it broken. Room towels has plenty of stain, old, really small. No information is provided. A one pager listing the services will.be appreciated. Please buy a coffee and milk carafe, instead of asking the guests to use a huge soup service spoon.. buy coffee cups instead of using plastic cup to serve coffee.

Club Kawama: Great beach

When we arrived our "room was ready" according to the lady at check in. When we got to our room there were no beach towels, the ac wasnt working, the garbage wasnt emptied. Told the reception about our room and lack of "stuff" and she told us there wasnt another room available. A staff member came by to try to get the ac working which they did get to turn on and off but there was no functioning thermostat. This meant I had to turn it on when hot and off when too cold including the middle of the  [... read more]night. The beach towels and fresh towels finally arrived day 2 afternoon. The beds were comfortable but only 1 pillow on each and no extras were given. The beach was amazingly beautiful and weather was awesome. The pool was nice to look at but we went for the beach and the pool bar was under construction with the smell of diesel fuel coming from there, day and night. The food was ok but not much selection as food isnt exactly easy to get in cuba right now, apparently. Only had chicken for 2 meals all week, always had pork, no beef, no burgers, hot dogs, or fries. We brought our own seasoning salt for flavour. Did the catamaran excursion which was fun and the best food we had all week. Current was strong so people were only in the water for about 10 minutes. The beach on the island was also beautiful. I wouldn't take my kids there due to a lack of activities and food options. Staff was nice enough but everyone wanted your tips and didn't have a problem looking for one. Stayed there 4 days and that was long enough for us.

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: 3 hour line at check in

As Grand Memories itself was not ready for our stay were transfered to the Sanctuary section. This is an amazing area. The bungalows were kept clean, the grounds were kept neat and clean. The exceptional staff! Transporting by taxi to the beaches or marina area was not helpful or readily available. The 3 hour wait in line during the check in was not at any way acceptable. Iberostar Selection Holguin: Enjoyable, attractive, and friendly Resort

It is a contemporary Resort to enjoy vacation time. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The facilities and amenities were pleasant and very convenient. Well-attended by a great human team. Its people were friendly, helpful and well trained to deal with any kind of customer.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Good staff

I would categorize our stay here as middle of the road, the staff were mostly friendly and the resort is decent shape over all like anywhere in Cuba they do the best they can with what they have. Several shortages were experienced but this is common place right now anywhere in the world overall I would give this resort a solid 3 our of 5. Sol Palmeras: The best staff!!!

A long, beautiful beach and stunning blue water. Older hotel but very clean and appealing to the eye. The food is good for Cuba. Lots of delicious drinks, especially the coffee in the mail lobby. Outstanding, kind staff. My second visit and I'll return again.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Clean resort

Positives first. Very clean, beautiful beach, great drinks, nice relaxed atmosphere and perfect size for relaxation. Second time to Cuba, first after COVID. As usual the food was not great, sometimes not even good. Not many choices for snacking between meals. Potatoes were scarce and vegetables were always the same. Too much sauce on items. Kept running out of toilet paper in women’s washrooms. Need to remember women use it more so don’t stock the men’s so much. Probably won’t return to this resort. However by Cuba standards it is a 4 star.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Not great

Resort definitely needs a management shake up. Allowing late check out past check in time isn't cool! Probably 1/3 of their staff actually care about service. Won't be back for sure. More attention to providing a quality product than just doing whatever is the bare minimum you can get away with is how we felt about our stay.

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: So much potential

We stayed at the iberostar selection Esmeralda from Feb. 24- Mar. 3 After a long wait checkin was seamless . Our room was beautiful , clean , nice layout and a beautiful balcony . It’s a lovely resort , small and easy to get around . Staff were very friendly , everyone you past said “Ola” with a smile . The difficulties lies within communication . When in Cuba no expectations work the best . Things for the resort to consider : Post when events or games will happen so one knows when and where to participate. A bigger exposure of the entertainment team through the day would benefit more participation . The buffet restaurant is beautiful however the system in place doesn’t allow great flow amongst the buffet . Lineups for egg station in the morning and lineups for lunch and dinner grilling is poor . Consistency in the drink preparation would be beneficial , what you ordered at the lobby bar differentiated from any other bar 🤷‍♀️ Overall this resort has huge potential , It has a beautiful beach and the ocean was fantastic . The people are kind and willing to help if only they could understand you . Every public washroom through the resort was spotless , one of the best I’ve seen . In advertising this resort please say it’s a one hour drive from the airport not 40 min. Overall with a few hiccups here and there ( no batteries in safe upon arrival ) . We had a lovely week and if it wasn’t so far from airport we would return

Melia Cayo Coco: Wonderful Resort

Melia Cayo Coco…beautiful and very walkable beach, friendly and accommodating staff, everything very clean, good food. There were some shortages…vodka and fruit juices but nothing that impacted our holiday, We are planning a return next year!

Brisas Del Caribe: Great Resort and Great people

First time at this resort. The staff was great and so is the resort. I have been to many resorts over the years. I have stayed in Hostels and in 5 star resorts. This Resort is middle of the road. I will say. It was clean. The service is good. The A La Carte and everyday open BBQ lunch is really good. It is close to the beach and the pools are clean. All and All. I had a good experience and would recommend it for the price.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Great spot to vacation for sure!!!

From the time we landed to the day we had to leave this beautiful location we were given the best hospitality. On the bus, which was easy to locate, to the hotel, from the airport, we were offered drinks for the ride. When we arrived at the hotel we had butlers to take our luggage to our rooms. There was offerings of drinks and homemade pizza to great us. The hospitality was always so friendly, kind and so supportive for our stay. The wait staff at our daily buffet meals for breakfast, lun [... read more]ch and dinner, to our mini bar supplies every night (beer and water included) to the amazing entertainment staff that kept us going all day long with activities. The entertainment group did yoga, workouts, games, dance lessons, to nightly entertainment nights at the theatre for the guests to enjoy. Wow they never disappointed us either. Food was available all day long at the buffet with a wide variety to choose from. Even with food intolerances I was able to eat with no issues daily and the food was delicious. There were A la Cart dinners offered to us daily from our butlers. These dinners were not buffet and more of a dressier night out setting for dinning. This is optional and at no added expense but needed to be booked in the mornings through our butler. Every day we received room service with beautiful bed art for us to enjoy. The cleaning staff always left the room clean. Bring the butlers, cleaning staff and mini bar staff items they can use, such as hygiene items/children items/clothing etc, to support themselves and their families; they will treat you very well to show their appreciation. For the wait staff, bar staff, beach chair support workers, entertainment staff bring small dollar bills in US or Canadian for tipping. They earn it for sure with all they do for us visitors. Beach chair staff will help find you good lounge chairs in the mornings and sweep them clean for you, for an enjoyable day at the beach front. The pool also has lots of lounge chairs as well as a swim up bar. I would highly recommend this hotel for the experience of visiting Cuba. Definitely a great stay from beginning to end. Yes the food was amazing daily!!!

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Beautiful resort

This is my second time to this resort and it is spectacular!!!!! The grounds are beautiful well maintained, the beach is absolutely beautiful!!!! Water is turquoise clear with very little seaweed, lots of little fish and white sand you can walk for miles !!!! It could use a coat of paint here and there but after Covid it will get there in time, but still amazing!!!! Most amazing staff, friendly and very kind . Playa Costa Verde: Beautiful, clean, amazing resort!

My fiancé and I had a fantastic week at this resort! March 1-8/23. The staff are so friendly, the room was great and very spacious, comfy bed, and so clean! Wifi was really easily accessible, and we felt so safe. I will absolutely be returning to this resort in the future.

Playa Pesquero: This resort is tired and dated

Just came back from a week at Playa Pesquero. The sun was hot, the drinks (when you could get what you wanted) were cold, the hotel staff were amazing! The food was horrible - extreme food shortages within the resort. Diet consisted of chicken, pork and rice. This was my first time visiting this resort. It's tired and dated. There is a lot of maintenance that needs to be done. That being said, it was very clean which is always my top priority when travelling.

Very pretty grounds, great staff nice beach til half was washed away. The music and games at the pool were very loud every afternoon same as at beach many different radios trying to drown out the other one, they need a quiet pool

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Amazing stay at the Royalton

Not our first trip to Cuba but certainly the best. Resort was great. Small, great staff, clean, beautiful beach. Greatest surprise was the food was amazing. Quesadilla grill on the beach was a daily must. Definitely going back.

Grand Memories Varadero: DO NOT STAY HERE

This resort is easily a two star. It should never be considered a five-star resort. The Buffay had cockroaches. Rooms have leaking, ACs, bedbugs, and no toilet seats. The staff are not friendly, and the grounds are not well capped. The hotel needs an entire renovation. There were a lot of unhappy guests during the week that we stayed. We had to be moved twice, and our room door would not lock. The beach is beautiful but other than that there is nothing nice about this resort. Playa Luxury Cayo Las Brujas: Above our expectations!

I had booked this hotel in 2020, mainly on the great reviews. Because of Covid I had to cancel. Sunwing refunded some of my $$ and gave me a credit which I needed to use before March ‘23. I saw that reviews were still good so I rebooked and I am so happy I did. Service was fabulous from the front desk and on! Two beaches to choose from, we preferred the quiet one where you could walk out into the water forever. Always plenty of loungers at both beaches and the pool. It is a quiet hotel and entertainment was good but ended at 11, but we still danced and had great fun. If you are looking for a classy, laid back, relaxing vacation this is the spot. Please bring US $1 bills as they cannot exchange our loonies and toonies at their bank. This has been my 5th Cuban trip and I usually don’t go to the same hotel twice but I’d definitely consider rebooking this one!

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Great stay

Our stay was better than we were expecting. Reviews can be very mixed and it's hard to see past a bad one - but we really didn't have any negative experiences. The beach is absolutely incredible and 100% the reason to go. The food is quite bland but we still always had options (I am vegetarian and still always had something). We did bring our own condiments and brought them to each meal which was really helpful, as I don't think there are any there. We were able to eat at an a-la-carte almost ev [... read more]ery night, which was nice. For drinks, they really old have rum for hard liquor but lots of beer and wine (no diet sodas). The bugs on the beach were REALLY bad at morning and night, so definitely bring a good buy spray and after-bite. I got so many bites no matter how much I tried to prepare. The only negative I could find would be that the "Sanctuary" section of the beach is very small, and people get up at 5am to save chairs. It's frustrating to get up at 7 and have no chairs available, and no one actually sitting in any of them until 10am. If the resort stopped allowing this it would be a big improvement. The pizza on the beach is incredible - definitely recommend. They accept USD and CAD for tips but if you give them CAD coins they are constantly asking other tourists to change it into bills, so it seems to be much easier for them if you get USD $1s for tipping. We also really struggled to find sunglasses anywhere on the resorts or shops, so definitely bring extras! The butlers and staff were very friendly and accommodating. The entertainment and music at the pool is very repetitive, but it didn't really matter to us. The rooms are okay, nothing special but also no complaints. The hotel is pretty far (1.5-2 hours) from the airport so you lose a day in travel. As long as you know to expect less in Cuba than in other caribbean countries, I would give it a solid 4 stars.
