Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Long Time Favorite
This was our 14th visit to Esmeralda, giving us privilege to adjoining Fantasia, Ambar and Aquamarine. All sections are immaculately groomed, the beach is clean and the ocean is wonderful, just beautiful. Service at the bars, restaurants and shops is friendly and efficient, but see below.
It appears Covid has taken its toll on food preparation. Coffee and tea were often cold and the buffet food was not very warm and we had difficulty getting a spoon or fork!
Tequila - Mexican *** Menu had m[... read more]any items unavailable, starters were disappointing, service was good and friendly especially the supervisor was very helpful.
Mashua Nikkei - Japanese/Peruvian **** Very nice restaurant, food was tasty although not as described
Garden Grill - Steak ** Confusing menu, unable to determine what steak they were actually offering, baked potato was 1/2 baked
Rodizio Las Olas - Brazilian **** A very beautiful restaurant overlooking the Ocean. A wide offering of starters buffet style. The meats were nicely done and plentiful.
The Greek* A mistake to go there. We 3 were all disappointed with the food, ordered skewered chicken, got a miniature pita instead . We were placed under a cold blowing fan and offered no relief.
Portofino - Italian **** Minestrone soup, Seafood Linguini and Shrimp Risotto well prepared and efficiently served. Our favorite Ala carte restaurant of the week.
Esmerelda Los Geranios Buffet **
Esmerelda Jasmine Buffet **
Aquamarine Buffet ** Received no table service after 10 minutes.
Ambar Buffet ***** Excellent service food and variety
Sports Bar ** Don't order snacks unless you like them cold
Pool Bars *****

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great place to celebrate
The BeLive collections Marien in Puerto Plata in my opinion was a great pick for my daughter and myself to relax and celebrate her completion of her university degree this April. The staff were kind and very friendly. The resort is a bit on the smaller side so walking everywhere was quick and easy. It's even wheelchair assessible which is a great feature
The Beach's were fairly clean of seaweed. Saw the workers early every am cleaning the seaweed that washed ashore over night away. The securit[... read more]y on the beach kept the vendors from bothering the guests whole they were relaxing . The vendors were only allowed along the waters edge.
The location of Puerto Plata is situated on the north eastern aspect of the island so is directly touched by the Atlantic Ocean and because of that the waves are very active and stir up the sand constantly. This made snorkeling from beach almost impossible due to limited visibility. The sand was very fine and soft in most places. There are excursions to go snorkeling but we did not partake on any. I was surprised that even though there was floating seaweed in water near the shore there were very little shell debris or jellyfish floating on our trip. We were in the ocean every day. Water was awesome. There are no umbrellas on the beach but the nearby trees provide ample shade for all. There were always lounge chairs available at the pool and on the beach. At the pool there are umbrella like structures to provide shade but often they were taken fairly early in am on weekend. On week days usually always was able to find shade loungers at the pool.
The pool was very clean and well maintained. They even provide small garbage bins around outside perimeter of pool for patrons to dispose of garbage so they aren't littering on the property. Unfortunately some of the bushes would have vomit smell due to guests over indulging and sharing with bushes later at night. This is not the fault of the resort and it should not be penalized for this. The workers were always cleaning and power washing the walkways.
On the weekends the local Islanders visit and fill the resort. They were all very respectful and fun to be around.
The food was tasty and even though not a great variety we were always satisfied. The a la carte restaurants alternate being open through the week and all 3 were open on the weekend. You need to book the a la carte each am for that night and need to be at the booking desk prior to 9 which was when the worker would arrive. We found this strange as other resorts you would book all at beginning of vacation. We were only able to try one as we often slept in and were too late to book. The food was good. And service great.
Our room was in one of the older nonrenovated buildings but suited us fine. The maids kept it tidy daily and all but one day replaced towels. One day they took towels but because we were napping when they came back with new we never had towels for that day until next day. We brought small roll of rope so we could hang out wet clothing on the balcony to dry a bit over night. Most am the clothing and towels were dry. We exchanged our towels daily with no problem.
The resort and island no longer require usage of masks everywhere providing all are vacinatef. The workers still all wore masks. But rarely saw a guest wear one. Most people did socially distant from others not in their party and there are reminders and taped markers on floors for people to do so when cueing for bars or buffet. There is hand sanitizer bottles situated all over the resort and signs to remind guests to frequently clean their hands.
All in all we did enjoy visiting this resort. There are a couple changes that would make it great. Having a coffee bar for special coffees all throughout the day in lobby or on site . I did read somewhere on another's review that there was but when I asked a worker she said there wasn't.
I do plan to return here in the future just not sure when.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Overall good resort
We had a great time. Beautiful poolsand beach. Small amount of seaweed. Very friendly staff. Food was pretty good. Would definitely recommend for the price. Rooms are a little out dated. Be aware there are several resorts on the Property and you only have access to a limited amount of restaurants and pools. Property was clean.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Nice Resort
This is a very nice resort, the grounds are impeccable, everything is clean, the staff very polite and attentive.
Bahia Principe is a very big Complex it has 5 different complexes,
we were in an adult only " Aquamarine", it is not directly on the beach so you have to walk a bit to get there (5 to 7 min.) but there is always a lot of shuttle on the way that can pick you up and drive you directly to the beach.
The beach is fabulous and pristine! But there is a lot of people.
Luckily each compl[... read more]ex have an area assigned on the beach.
We love the beach/ocean so we were there every day!
all and all it was a very nice vacation, big sunshine every day,
we loved it.

Be Live Collection Punta Cana Adults Only: Disapointing
A side from the issue with sunwing there issues with the resort and so many things we were not made aware of. We had to complete an Dominican Republic E ticket which cost 💲 20US also had to pay $20 US each while in the line up to check our bags out in the Punta Cana airport. Resort did not inform us of all that was included for us in the adults only side of the resort had to rely on others to tell us. The Sunwing rep at the resort was not educated in what was all in the excursions. We went[... read more] on an excursion that was filled with surprises.
Our room was not cleaned for 2 days, shower leaked into the bath room. 2 rooms down 3 young girls had a party smoking weed. The staff in the restaurants were absolutely amazing! Overall from the sunwing rep at the resort, not being able to book any A la Carts ( because they say always booked and not open all the time) it is a resort we will no longer go to.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Time
We recently stayed at the Senator (Apr 18-23). Overall we had an amazing time. Weather was great. Resort itself was very clean and well maintained. Best water pressure and hot water of any resort we have stayed in the past. Food was good. Not a large variety buy we made it work. The only complaint is that there was not enough seating at night in the lounge area however you can walk over

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Sun and fun
We stayed at the Bahia Esmeralda in Dominican the hotel is huge I prefer a smaller hotel. The hotel was very nice adult pool that was nice when you had enough of kids. Franklin front desk was very personable friendly and helpful. The entertainment team was great Jennifer and Ledy went out of her way to make sure all ages got involved.
Joselito very fun. There entertainment supervisor not friendly at all rather rude. Xendy from the Jasmine was so nice kind and helpful a positive addition to[... read more] your team. Ocean El Faro: Great resort!
Really beautiful all around. Spectacular room, lobby, restaurants, beach, activities, and amenities. Waterpark for kids was NOT a disappointment. There is a soliciting/selling ruse going on there regarding their “privilege club†that put a downer in our stay when approached but thats the only negative aspect. The ladies that ran the kids club went above and beyond for the kids. The shows at night were a pretty big production and were EVERY night! Esolran took care of our room and and provide[... read more]d exceptional service daily. Lazy river was the best part. It had a bar, was so much fun and lots of shade while you're in there so can go even when the sun is at its strongest.

Occidental Punta Cana: Pros and Cons
Beautiful hotel. Good food. Beautiful beach. Clean beautiful rooms. Terrible service. They cater to the locals/Spanish speaking individuals. Good luck getting service, even if you tip. Front desk was not helpful. The same miserable woman was always working there, and she could care less about you. I got my own silverware, napkins, and often ate full meals without a drink. There was one woman and one man that provided good service in the buffet, amongst all of them. I would finally flag down a[... read more] server, ask for a drink and they wouldn't come back. 2 male bartenders in the lounge would serve you in sequence of you "turn", and the younger boys in the late night (upper) bar served you appropriately. They were super nice and fun, made for a good experience. Were always smiling and genuinely having a good time, which in turn helped you to have a good time. They even played songs we requested. Best employees of the place. Pizza guys were friendly also. Great spot, but they definitely need to work on service and friendliness. Often times we felt unwelcome.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Cofresi Palm Beach Resort
The hotel was very clean, bathrooms, rest areas, beach area etc. The staff was very nice and engaging. The only issue we had was they allowed the locals to come on to the property for Easter weekend. They took over the place and they were very rude. I thought about it, and realized that goes on everywhere. I have never been to a hotel where they allowed the local people in.

Iberostar Selection Bavaro Suites: Loved the resort
We absolutely loved the resort. What we liked was the big open spaces, the open buffet and the whole layout
The staff were always extremely helpful, the rooms were clean and well laid out and we would certainly go there again
Our one criticism was the entertainment. There was no variety and it was so loud we went down to the beach area to avoid it

Playabachata Hotel: Paid a good price for our stay
Resort was nice. Price we paid was a good deal. Price went up by 2.5x by the time we left. Our price was a deal anyone who paid the 2.5x price not so much. Beach is beautiful, 2 pools one too crowded and noisy one quieter during the week but busy and crowded on the weekend. Lots of broken chairs on the beach and by the pools, might as well get rid of them there are lots of loungers around. Room was fine, bed was comfortable and ac worked good, maid service was good. Food at the buffet was good, [... read more]tasty and a variety. We had issues with our safe that never did get fixed unfortunately. I think the only reason I wouldn’t go back is that the hosts really try to pressure you to go to the resort next door to try it out, have breakfast, they just want to convince you to buy into the time share. No thank you.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Horrible experience
My money was stolen the first day I arrived and my credit card was used without my authorization. Hotel staff was the only one in my room. The manager and security accused me of drinking and possibly allowing people in my room which was not true. I would recommend getting a safe as soon as you arrive.
We stayed at the Royalton Splash Punta Cana for 8 days in April 2022. This was our first trip with our 3 year old and we had paid for the best package which was the Junior Suite Jacuzzi Diamond Club. Firstly what I can say is that the Diamond Club "extra" is not worth it... ok we had the "private" check in upon arriving however a few families were in line thus, it took longer to check in than the "regular" clients that checked in at the front desk. Also, this lounge is very far away from the roo[... read more]ms so, it is easier to grab a drink at the pool, bar or coffee lounge than to walk over there for the snacks and drinks/coffee they are offering daily. Additionally, the "butler's service" was awful... we met him on the 2nd day and gave him a fair good amount of tip. We thought this would encourage a good service for the week... we thought wrong! This butler told us he would take care of every night's "Ã la carte" dinner reservations... Given we have a toddler, we asked for the dinner reservations to be before 7:30. They exchange with clients with the "what's app" and we had to ask him numerous times per day at which restaurant we would be eating that day and at what time... sometimes it would take 2, 3, 4 messages before he would respond and we could have a response at 5PM/6PM and, for the entire week, our reservations were at 8:30PM. Even with a complaint to the "butler's supervisor", nothing changed... It would have been easier to book them ourselves. We got nothing more from this "butlers service" that week. No extras attentions... and the "premium alcool" is not available at the Splash... you have to cross over to the Royalton Punta Cana to access a "VIP" lounge and enjoy the premium bottles (which is a 10-minutes walk).
The diamond club pool is very small and doesn't have much chairs.
Overhaul the hotel is nice and clean. The main pool is at the centre of all the building thus, very accessible. If you want a chair by the pool, you need to put your alarm clock early... at 7AM they were all taken! Same for the beach no matter if you have the diamond club or not.
To access the beach, you need to cross over to the royalton Punta Cana which as I said before, is a good 10-minutes walk. You can take the mini bus (but during the day or at dinner time, you will be lucky if you have a spot on it thus, you have to be patient- we found it easier to just walk).
As for the restaurants, 3 of them are at the Splash and the rests are at the other hotel (royalton punta Cana). We tried almost all of them and we were never disappointed! The theatre and entertainment is also at the other hotel. Not much entertainment at the splash at night...
we had an outdoor area to enjoy a few drinks after dinner and that's about it. The coffee place is very nice and the pastries and coffees are amazing!
As for the buffet, personally there wasn't much choices and almost none for toddler's. The buffet at the royalton Punta Cana was WAY more attractive and they had a LOT more to offer... we ended up eating breakfast at the Splash and lunch at the Royalton Punta Cana. The service at the buffet of the splash was OK... not to say bad... at breakfast, you were lucky if you had a cup of coffee or water before you finished your plate. The waiters always seemed in a bad mood... 1/2 the time we didn't get a hello or a smile. This was a first for us... total different story at the buffet of the royalton Punta Cana.
As for the room, on the first night, they made a mistake and we had 1 queen bed instead of 2... my husband ended up sleeping on the couch that night. Also, the room floor was covered with water (it was raining)... so our first night wasn't the best! The next day we transferred in another room. It was clean and spacious HOWEVER, the shower hadn't been cleaned as I found a bunch of long hair in the floor and walls... YUCK! I wrote a note the next morning and gave a generous tip to the cleaning lady asking to clean the shower which she didn't... after 3 days the hairs were still there and we ended up throwing them away ourselves. Beside that we had towels, water and a clean room the whole week. As for the water park, we didn't spend time over there... unfortunately little kids cannot go in the big slides even if accompanied by an adult and the little kids section did not interest him. It was pretty nice but you need to arrive EARLY if you want a chair.
So overhaul, we spent way more time at the other royalton and if we were to redo it, I would definitely book at the royalton punta Cana as it gives you access to the royalton splash anyway... we are not deceived but, we were expecting a bit more considering the amount we paid for this trip.
