Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful resort amazing beach
The resort was great, I would definitely go back. My sister and I went for a relaxing vacation and got just that.
The beach was great if you go left or right about 100m it gets a lot less rocky. You can see tons of interesting fish right on the beach so bring you snorkel.
The food was much better than expected skip the a La cart's and stick to the buffet at the beach or in the lobby. There was always lots of selection as well as grills for fresh fish and meat. We went later so we had to wait f[... read more]or tables to be cleared but if you wait the staff are more then happy to clean one off for you.
The pools were clean and nice but we spent most our time at the beach. Same with the rooms they are a standard hotel room, they were always clean. We didn't have any problem.
I would definitely recommend this resort big group or small.

Paradisus Punta Cana: Beautiful Resort
This was our second visit to Paradisus Punta Cana. Last year (2015) we visited at the same time of year. It was excellent, and so we decided to return. This year however, we ran into some disappointments.
There have been some changes, some of which are puzzling. For example, there are some cabanas directly in front of the Gabi Beach Bar and buffet restaurant. Last year, they were free to use. This year however, my husband and I rested on one on our first day, and before too long, a woman approa[... read more]ched us and informed us that they were now being rented to the tune of $50 U.S, per day!!! We were first of all embarrassed, as there were no signs on them indicating such a thing; and then angry at the gall of the management to charge their patrons for the use of a cabana, when the cost of a week at their resort is already at the high end of the scale.
Secondly, last year, we were able to call anytime to get a dinner reservation at a reasonable time at any of the A La Carte's, even on the same day. This year, we spent 20 minutes on the phone trying to get dinner at a reasonable time, and for the entire week of our stay, we could only get 6 or 6:30, or 9-9:30 reservations and some of the restaurants we could not get into at all. This was frustrating, but what was even more frustrating was the fact that when we looked into these same restaurants at the dinner hour that we would have preferred, in every case, they were less than half filled with patrons. This same thing happened to friends that we met during our stay and they even approached the restaurants in some instance to try and get in, but they were denied.
Also missing was any sort of live entertainment inside the restaurants. At least that was our experience, however, we also had less than prime time reservations.
Thirdly, last year, every afternoon at 4 p.m., at the Gabi Beach Bar, there was a D.J. there playing some great music while waiters took around trays of champagne, cool wet towels and bowls of hot nuts to snack on. At the same time, women from YHI Spa were there offering free five minute neck massages with their potable massage chairs, or free hand massages. This year, there was none of that that we saw, and we were often in that area at that same time of day.
All of these complaints would be things that, had we not gone there last year, we would not have noticed as being different, However, when you return to a resort based on many of these perks that were offered and those things have changed in a negative way, it taints your opinion and affects your experience making it more disappointing than exhilarating.
On a positive note, we were given a beautiful room and the resort itself is breathtaking. It is very large and the lighting is romantic and gives an intimate feel. In addition, there is always beautiful music everywhere along the walkways through hidden outdoor speakers. The grounds are kept immaculate and are always being tended.
The lobby is stunning and at night it is lit with hundreds of tea lights and pillar candles which is impressive, as anyone who burns candles would know that they are labour intensive.
There are many gorgeous places all over the vast lobby to sit and relax with a cocktail and every night there is live music offered and a great place to dance.
The staff for the most part are very friendly and polite, and will do their best to accommodate your needs.
The beach is perfect with powdery white sand and always a fresh breeze and the swimming is safe and fun with big surf and shallow waters.
There are abundant beach chairs available and always lots of fresh dry towels for which they have drop containers available on the beach when you are finished with them for the day. This is refreshing for any of you who have endured the towel obsession in Cuba. Those who have, know what I am talking about.
For those looking for a more active vacation, there did not seem to be many fun activities going on during the day, but I would definitely recommend this resort for couples who are looking for romance and rest, or to anyone looking for a gorgeous place to enjoy a tropical break.

Sol Cayo Coco: Love this Resort
The Sol Cayo Coco is an excellent all around great resort. It's clean, great food (even beef) which was good, excellent a la carts, manicured grounds and the best beaches I have ever been on. The rooms are basic but nice and cleaned everyday...the only minus was the water pressure at certain times was low and not a lot of hot water but just during peak showering times...no big deal! Try this resort for the price you can't go wrong.

Melia Las Dunas: Not what it used to be.
Hotel is aging, our mattress showed it's 10 years of wear and tear. Sheets provided were torn.
Room cleanliness was maintained at a bare minimum. I think one should bring their own bottle of windex...toilets were not cleaned on a daily basis, towels not changed; when I asked for the sheets to be changed the pillowcases were forgotten. I cleaned the mirror in the bathroom myself and would have cleaned the whole room.

from the minute you step on this resort, you already feel welcomed from the staff. the grounds are kept clean and beautiful. the rooms are typical of Cuba but as long you remember that you are only in them to shower and sleep, you will be fine (it actually cured my shoulder pain!! lol) the main star attraction is the beach!! it was one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to and not at all crowded!! the food was really good and never the restaurant hungry! loved the pasta station!! eve[... read more]ryone super friendly and appreciated every little thank you gift you left for them. our flights were even great - both ways!! Extremely understaffed but the staff is wonderful and courteous

Drinks were great wine ok beer only Cristol very light .. very short on staff for a resort of this magnitude the lines were painful and the staff was excellent
As we were leaving we saw two huge busloads of Cubans coming in .. don't know where everyone was going to be accommodated ..
Went for relaxation and beach :)

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Beautiful resort with amazing views
This resort was a 5 star for it grounds keeping, restaurants and rooms staff. They were always friendly and very helpful, We needed our tv and toilet fixed and the staff was there right away to fix our problem, the food was delicious In all restaurants, the one thing I could say was that the entertainment was disappointing I have been to resorts were they interact with the guests more then what this resort did but all in all it was an amazing place to stay.

Melia Cayo Coco: Amazing vacation
although the hotel is on the old side - it was very clean, - beds are hard but we managed - the grounds are lush and beautiful - we love that it is a smaller hotel and can get around easily - if they could cut down some of the greenery it would allow ocean view which is what we would have preferred - don't see any reason to upgrade to lagoon suites - not much to see there - food at the al a cartes was very good - buffet okay but you get tired of the same things - but we didn't starve

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great stay
I stayed at Melia with a friend over March break. It was my second trip to Cuba and I really enjoyed my stay. The resort is new and very clean. The resort is quite large and I personally prefer a mid size resort. However, we had a room by the main pool and found that we were very well located (close to the beach and pool, not too far from the lounge).
The beach is gorgeous and I recommend going snorkeling with the entertainment staff during one of their 3 weekly outings. Yes, the beach is rocky[... read more] upon entrance but this really shouldn't be an issue. A 3 minute walk to the left and there are absolutely no rocks. Take the time to walk up the beach to your right. It's quiet and rock free.
We spent our afternoon by the pool and really enjoyed the pool bar staff. All are friendly and attentive.
The entertainment staff is wonderful and friendly. If you prefer not to listen to the activities, you can stay by the second quieter pool.
During our stay, we heard many people complain about the towels. Please remember the man at the towel bar is not responsible for the fact that they are out of towels. Some people were far too rude to the employee qho worked there. I'd suggest to bring your own towel and air it out on the balcony. I had my own and I was able to change my resort towel twice. I had no issues and couldn't believe how many people complained about this. You're on vacation, so just relax and enjoy yourself!
The food at the resort is satisfactory. Yes, by the end of the week I was tired of the buffet but I never went hungry. Eat a big breakfast, the best meal of the day, and try out both pool restaurants to mix things up at lunch. The fried chicken in particular is amazing. Considering the food in Cuba is known to be pretty bland, I was happy with what was offered at Melia.
My only complaint is that there really isn't much going on in the evening. After the shows, which are great, we just went to bed. It wasn't a big problem, we just ended up enjoying more rum in the afternoon at the pool rather than the evening. However, if you're looking for nightlife, you're better off in Veradero.
Overall I enjoyed this resort and would recommend it to anyone interested in going to Cayo coco.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Beautiful beach
The good stuff: The beach was beautiful. The ocean was an amazing blue. The snorkling was half decent. You could walk out a long ways before the water got deep. There was a lovely, long pier with shaded areas and benches. The pool was nice. The staff was amazing and did their best to make everything great. They asked us to fill out a survey on our second day there. That same day they were trying to fix anything that wasn't right, other than the mattresses.
The not so good stuff: The resort is 16[... read more] years old and in need of a facelift. The mattresses were definitely worn out. Excellent vacation.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: OK resort for a short stay
Good territory, big and also green. Good beach and sea. Water sports available. Good and diverse enough food. A bit too far from Varadero town so almost the last hotel when return from excursions. Key issue is with services. There were towels in the room and to get them was a big issue. They were never changed in all 7 days as well as bed linings. Beach towels were also very difficult to get and to exchange for clean. Advise to bring yours. Rooms are reasonable although a bit old.

Melia Marina Varadero: Good resort...for the right price
March break prices are always high, but when you book a 5 star then the amenities and service should be no less than perfect, especially for the amount paid during peak times.
No beach towels provided in our room (called reception daily!) and therefore couldn't get one at the pool as its exchange only. Food was good, especially at a la carte restaurants, while there should be more locations/options for buffet rather than the one lobby location where there was a line up each night.
Being on the[... read more] Marina and having the restaurants, bars, markets and shopping is a unique experience and makes the resort feel upscale.
Pool and beach restaurants were good as well. Staff was helpful and courteous throughout the resort, while nobody is in any sort of hurry to serve. Again, based on a 5 star rating and price paid and age of hotel, I expected rooms, common areas and pool area to be cleaner. I wouldn't describe it as a kid friendly resort (limited activities etc), but the kids club staff were excellent and there were a few good days of activities for them.
Had a great time as the weather was excellent, beach was beautiful and drinks cold... just as we had hoped for, so no complaints but wouldn't rush back either especially at March break prices.
I have been to many all inclusive and there were things about the Melia that were excellent and others that did not meet my expectations. The animation team was one of the big let downs for me. They are not present at the pool more than an hour a day and have very few activities and games happening. This was something myself and others guests discussed many times on the trip and could really have made this a better resort. Also there is almost never music at the pool!? The rooms were clean and n[... read more]ice but if they are going to stick you in a room surrounded by peacocks that squawk all day and night they should make you aware. I have a fear of birds and this was a horrible experience for me. The food was great and so was the selection and the effort the staff made to accommodate and get everyone fed without having to made reservations. Much better experience than I have had at many other resorts in this area. The resort is big and a long walk but the people on the carts pick you up as much as they an and the trains come often. The staff were kind and happy for the most part and a pleasure to be around.

Melia Las Dunas: Relaxing Vacation
The beach is spectacular! The water is crstal clear turquise, clean and warm. The adult pool is quiet and clean, and the family pool is bustling with lots to do for the kiddies. The grounds are well kept. Staff throughout the resort are friendly but all business at the front desk. My biggest concern and struggle was getting fresh bottled water daily and clean towels. I'm glad I brought my own bathroom towels, facecloth and beach towel. The rooms are dated but adequate. There is plenty of selecti[... read more]on in the food department and several places to eat so it is not difficult to find something that you like. I stuck to freshly grilled fish all week and was not disappointed. There was always something going on in the main lobby in the evenings but difficult to be served for a drink due to full capacity at resort and few bartenders. Overall, a very safe resort to have a quiet beach vacation.

Memories Cayo Largo: Resort improving
This was our 4th trip to Sol Cayo Largo. The weather was great, a little windy and the tides were higher than usual. staff were outstanding, food okay. The resort is doing modest upgrades. All the talk by staff are expressing good things to come to the resort because of the Americans they accept to be visiting soon. I was told while exchanging some money that very soon the US dollar will be 1 for 1 in all of Cuba.
Had a great time and will be returning in the fall.

Sol Varadero Beach: Dissapointing resort
Unfortunately, this hotel was not what I expected it to be. The reception desk once again greeted us without a smile. as if I was disturbing them. Our room was more than adequate as far as a bed goes. Water pressure was good, but toilet would flush for minutes. Service was lousy, no one ever smiled. Towels were a commodity, they kept running out, and at one time my wife had to go ask the maids for 2 bath towels and they gave us used ones. Disgusting to say the least. Not one day where we had ful[... read more]l service to our room. Breakfast and lunch were OK. Staff again never smiled. A La Carte restaurants were very good, food was more than what we expected. But again, staff had no smiles unless they see me with a tip. The beach can't be beat, but its a beach, sand and clear water, can't go wrong there. No activities till 3 days into our trip. Animators were absent. Shows were pretty boring. I will not recommend this hotel to any one I know.
