Roc Barlovento: nice overall

grounds and beach beautiful...thanks to ricardo who always worked so hard to get our beach loungers and didnt always expect a tip...heads up staff...that works...most staff amazing, Lobby bar was the exception...only friendky guy was joseph...thanks joseph...others would be talking amongst each other while you waited...not professional at all. The AC in our room was dripping buckets of water when we arrived and toilet leaked....the room above also leaked...but got it all fixed with the except [... read more]ion of upstairs leaking...thanks to the maid Annia...Beds were comfortable...fridge froze everything...no controls on it.. beach bar was good although i found it somewhat rude that yusef would ring a bell every time you tipped...didnt like the idea you had to pay 1 cuc for a beer in the can food overall was quite decent...service could be improved...more staff is needed, ditch the straws as they make a mess of the beach and resort pool bar had great service...kudos to the maitre dee the games were awesome....regla you are amazing....night entertainment excellent... Canadian exchange was a little specious....heads up Barlavento....exchange rates should be posted every day... over all a decent resort...i will return

Club Kawama: Never go there again

When we got there the room that they gave me was really bad, had lots of bugs smelt really bad, then I asked to be moved to a neither room and charged me 120 us money, food we didn't eat all week, I really believe that they should have given me the room with no cost, really bad hotel, never again, sorry that's how I fell, was not impress at all.

Club Kawama: awesome resort

food ,room , resort, grounds all awesome.. The staff was not very friendly ... they would make more tips if they were friendly... Bed uncomfortable in upgraded room WE WILL BE BACK.. We may save money as we did not leave many tips ;) too rude

rooms are comfortable, grounds and pool are lovely, tours are amazing, Havana was interesting got lots of info, catamaran tour was very exciting, time at resort is very pleasant, had a perfect week, will be back

Hotel Villa Cuba: Never going back to this resort again!

I will never book to go to this resort ever again. I travel to Cuba yearly in different resorts over the past 7 years, this place had us very disappointed in the lack of entertainment and staff friendliness. When we landed in Cuba and went to get on the shuttle bus to take us to the resort, the driver had no room for us because our names were not even on the list, they did accommodate us only because we put up a fuss and didnt want to get left behind. so 3 seats (which belonged to the staff [... read more]) where given up to us. Our air Transat rep didn’t even show up the next day (as the given times, and we waited 3 hrs) so we could book our excursions. and we could not book one as I didn’t even see Air Transat rep all week, we were very upset over this because apparently other reps can not help..so we have been informed.. The staff (except the waitresses in the restaurant) were very unpleasant. Almost like we are a bother to them! At one point the chef that was making our pancakes in the morning, made me feel so very uncomfortable, like I did something wrong by asking him where the maple syrup was; he gave back a very aggressive and ignorant answer " I said we look!!" myself and another traveler that was standing beside me both walked away and said we would wait for lunch. That was so rude!! The other chefs (all but one happy lady) seemed like they really didn’t want to be there, and they made it quite obvious they were unhappy. The Bar staff was the same. Our first 2 nights we asked for mojitos at the “Mojito Bar” and the response we got was just this “ No, No Mojito’s” finally we seen others have them so we got some. But every time we went to the bar we got served, but not without being made feeling like we owed them something. The entertainment was far to almost none. So Disappointing we got so bored that most nights we went back to the room and called it a night. It was honestly like staying at a retirement home for the week. The Grounds I will say were very well kept up, very beautiful. Snack bar open all day, and was better than the buffet. The beach was beautiful as always on Veradero beach. Our room was always kept clean, with clean towels daily. new AC so it was always a nice temp in the room. no complaints there. the beds were brand new mattresses, we watched them come in with new mattresses almost daily. Food Well lets face it.. we don't go to Cuba for the food, so I cant complain there; but what I can complain about is the fact it was just about the same things every day! like changing it up a bit wouldn't hurt..or even add a thing or two new daily. you get tired of seeing the same things day after day. Front desk staff were helpful and very kind. seemed to be willing to make their guests happy I will say that was pleasant. And at the end of our trip..we had no idea our flight was delayed so we sat in the lobby for hours waiting for a shuttle bus to take us to the airport, getting worried maybe we missed it by miss communication or something. but nope!! we were not getting picked up until late that night due to a flight delay in which not one person informed us of.. I had to call to find out myself. The front security person says to me " oh it right here on paper" NICE!!!! you see us sitting there for hours with our luggage and decide to then tell us WTH?? Overall Cuba is a beautiful place to vacation, I have always loved it and always enjoyed my resorts" all but this one!" we made the best of it and I will keep going back yearly, but will not be going back to this resort ever again. I will go where I know the staff is friendly, and they have things to do for us for entertainment.

Roc Barlovento: Would definitely go back

The food and service were superb at the ROC Barlovento resort. The beautiful gardens were always immaculate and staff very very friendly. Rooms were comfortable and always clean. Would definitely return!

Starfish Cayo Guillermo: The Beach Is Worth It!

1. Wooden Bungalows: we were a group of four - two rooms adjoined and had our very own "space" - our own cabin! with a balcony on each room. Air conditioning worked in one of the rooms - so we left the door opened and it kept both rooms comfortable. The sheets were never changed but the bed was made up everyday. The curtains were stained and places in the ceramic chipped. The toilets worked and the water ran both hot and cold. There was tiny ants in the room all week. Just on the floor. I [... read more]t was very adequate, but not a four star resort. 2. Beach: the beach was a short walk down the board walk from our front door - a very short walk, and we could see the ocean from the front steps of our cabin. The beach is shallow, but the colours are beautiful. There are layers of blues and greens and the area we were at on the resort (far away toward the east) was quiet and at the border of the Kyte surfing so we didn't have to deal with out of control boards. (Close to the adult only section.) 3. Food: we found something at every meal that we could fill our plates with. One person in our group was gluten and dairy intolerant and ate really well! (Its the FIRST resort in Cuba that I didn't get the runs.). It wasn't luxurious. It didn't have loads of daily variety, but there was always fresh meat to be grilled infront of us, fresh fish, personal pizzas - and omelettes made to order in the morning. It was a good resort if you're in need of a break and aren't the super fussy type. If little things bother you (having to go to the bar for bottled water when they forget to leave it in your room, or extra toilet paper at the front desk if they run out - or if it would bother you to be served a drink in plastic cups at the bar instead of in a glass), this is not the place for you. If these things wouldn't bother you, you'll love it. THE NIGHTLY ENTERTAINMENT was really good. (But, I like live music ...) The resort wasn't "amazing." It was good. People were friendly, and IF you were kind to the staff they were very kind to you.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Restful Vacation

We have stayed at this hotel many time. We enjoy the people and the close proximity to the town. Since it has been taken over by a different group renovations have started and many things have improved. It is not perfect but exactly what we are looking for

Club Kawama: Great time at Kawama

We enjoyed our trip to Kawama very much. We had a standard room that was very small but clean. I was surprised there were no patio doors or terrace/balcony. The food in the buffet was not very good. Same stuff every day. I always ate the meat or fish that was cooked on the grill. We went out to dinner several times to Kiki's, and lie lie's and took advantage of the a la cartes. There really was no animation team. Water arobics was all I saw. The people we met there made our vacation. I  [... read more]would defiantly go back again but in a superior room. The grounds and architecture of the older buildings are beautiful. The pool is large with lots of chairs but not enough umbrellas. The beach is great unfortunately it was to rough to swim in very much. Mostly red flag days.

Roc Barlovento: Unbelievable Staff! - ROC Barlovento

Beach was beautiful, staff was by far the happiest, friendliest and accommodating I seen. The nightly entertainment was great as well. A few issues with the room, we didn't have a fridge and our in-room hair dryer didn't work, but we didn't complain at all, and im sure if we did we would have been immediately accommodated by the staff. All was great, and are most likely going to book the same resort again on our next vacation to Cuba

Club Kawama: Charming resort!

Note: this is the first time that I have experienced a tropical all-inclusive resort. Overall, my experience was fantastic!!! Club Kawama was very charming with an authentic Cuban feel to it! It was in a very picturesque setting and enjoyed the many attractive outdoor areas on this resort! It felt like paradise!!! And the beach was amazing!!! The room suited our needs. Thankful that there was running, warm water every time it was needed. The toilet and bathtub were clean. And thankful that the [... read more] mattress was clean...and was able to sleep well without a pillow.The pillows and curtains need a good cleaning though. The all-you-can-eat buffet was in a very cosy atmosphere with varying choices of food every single day. The food was mostly cold.. though it seems to be a common complaint at every resort in Cuba...regardless of the star rating. Everyone there was doing their best to make our experience satisfying. The hotel staff did their best to make our stay enjoyable. Everyone was good to us there...from the moment that we arrived until the day of departure! Appreciated everyone's good efforts at Hotel Kawama for us to experience a fantastic first-time to Cuba!!! In the future, when I will consider another vacation to Cuba, I will return to this resort in a heart beat!!

Club Kawama: Poor

Pool and beach was ok but room was dirty and old. Service was poor no smile. Never have change. Show was good when done by exterior group. Did not explaine how restaurant reservation work and all service at arrival..............................................

Club Kawama: Terrible Food!

Pool & beach were excellent; food was terrible and the layout of the buffet was awful. The line-up to the grill blocked other areas of the buffet so people were shoving all the time. If the food improved, we would love to go back to Kawama as we enjoyed the social aspect otherwise I'm not so sure. We paid for two superior rooms - one had pool view but had to share balcony with strangers and one had canal view but no ocean view even though we booked the first of January. Also requested adjoining  [... read more]rooms (for our children) but did not receive them which was inconvenient even though the rooms were everywhere on the resort. There were many Cubans using the resort (no bracelets) and they were rowdy in the pool and obnoxious at the buffet. Loved the relaxed atmosphere of the resort.

Club Kawama: Great Trip

We had a great experience at Club Kawama, the resort itself is older but very clean and the staff are very friendly. The food was good, air conditioning great and lots of hot water. The beaches are stunning and lots to do.

Club Kawama: Well worth the cost

Pleasantly surprised by the overall resort. Beautiful beach,,,best in Cuba for sure and the pool area was quite nice. Yes the rooms were just ok,,,but are you going for the room. The buffet was...a buffet,,,,and any buffet gets a bit stale after 10 or 15 visits,,,but i am very picky and i was able to find enough to eat with no problem. Every place has someone who seems miserable,,,but we had a 6 year old with us and by midweek the restaurant staff were inviting us to sit in there area. Roc Barlovento: Location is the reason to stay at Barlovento

This was my 3rd time staying at Barlovento. I like to stay in this area of Varadero. You are able to walk into the centre easily as well as cross the bridge and grab a taxi to other areas of Cuba. Our Cuban friends can easily visit us on the public beach beside the resort. There are good restaurants nearby and the canal to wander along. To me this makes staying at the Barlovento a good choice. The resort has been updating things. The buffet has made some welcome changes and I did notice [... read more] an improvement. New chairs and shade shelters around the pool are nice. The A la Carte reservations are waiting for you when you arrive. I changed our times and the number of guests easily by visiting the Customer Service desk in the lobby. The resort keeps the same staff year after year. I was really happy to see so many familiar faces. Many of the rooms have been renovated. Unfortunately, we did not get a renovated room. The bed was a back killer and the pillow on the nasty side. Our toilet kept running unless you jiggled the lever...just so, I often took off the tank lid and manipulated the flapper myself. The air conditioner dripped water for a few days. Room cleaning was hit or miss. Only one bottle of water per week. Only one small bar of soap per week and the body wash and shampoo reservoirs were not refilled when they were emptied. One day our full garbage can wasn't emptied. We did tip and leave gifts for the maid, so can only assume that some of the issues were hotel policy. The bar and wait staff were great once they got to know you, but the first day or so it was hard to get their attention. I would probably return to Barlovento because of its location. It is a nice compact resort on a lovely beach, walking distance to everything.

Starfish Cayo Guillermo: Fun times at a so so resort

Loved the staff and adult pool. Food is same everyday with little variety. Some of the evening entertainment was odd....adult baby show??? Wtf? Staff on the family and adult side made our stay fun and welcoming! Thanks for everything. Recommendations: more bathroom checks to make sure they are clean and have toilet paper.

Club Kawama: Party Resort

Loved the people, everyone went out of the way to meet you.. The rooms were standard, the food basic but facilities were good. If I were to make changes it would be to upgrade rooms to have a patio on lower level, improve the food and have an Animation Team to have the guests be involved with games/events and participation activities. Great price and would recommend this resort.

Roc Barlovento: Roc Barlovento, Varadero, Cuba April 09- 16, 2017

Our trip to Varadero Cuba was not good. It was Amazing!!! The room was nice, the beds were comfortable, always fresh towels. The air conditioning worked well, the refrigerator worked well. We had hot water, We watched "Showtime" late at night. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The swimming pool was nice but the beach was simply breathtaking. The food was better than expected, no tummy troubles at all. The live entertainment at night was so much fun, everybody got to dance wit [... read more]h the performers (if you were brave enough) Short walk to the flea market, cheap cab ride to the "Beatles Bar" where we spent 5 out of 6 nights. All in all it was probably the most fun I've ever had on a one week vacation. We already want to book a 10 day trip in November.

Roc Barlovento: Beautiful Resort

My 11 day stay at the Roc Barlovento was AMAZING, the grounds of this resort was always cleaned , ashtrays in very corner of the resort therefore no cigarettes butts on the ground which i found this very very good and clean. The Resort is adapted for wheelchairs which is a + and it is an Adult Resort and alot of French Canadian speaking people. The food was very good alot of varieties , 2 resturants a la carte (mexican and mediterrean-fusion). There was also the Ranchon near the Beach which was Bar BQ each day and they also had ice cream cones. The beach was Amazing to walk on, always kept it clean and also lifeguards to help out. I have been going to Varadero for 14 years and always at another Resort - this Resort the Barlovento was great and I would go back for sure.
