Pleasantly Surprised

Our first trip to Memories Caribe we found the hotel reception friendly and prompt. Stayed only 2 nights , nice resort , good food, amazing staff , good nightly shows , but no disco club . nice piano bar for after hours ... wish they would more on entertainment , but over all... nice place.... AMAZING BEACH. Not a fan of the pools and swim up bars. Took the excursion to the reef to see coral and fish, nice distraction but a little overrated.

Nice resort

We travelled to this resort Nov13 to Nov 27.We were two couples in our 50's.We booked the junior suite al fresco diamond club.The room was nice and roomy with an outdoor shower.We sometimes got visitors in the shower (frogs). The only problem we had with the room was bugs. We asked that our rooms and patio be fumigated because we could not sit outside without being bit by tiny bugs (I'm still scratching). This was not done so I used my deep woods off that I've had in my suitcase for years but ne [... read more]ver got to use until now. I would spray it on the bugs in the room around the sink. As far as the resort goes it is very beautiful. Wonderful landscaping. The alfresco suites are closer to the beach and landscaping is lacking there and very wet. The beach is very nice and the diamond club is totally worth it. You get a dedicated section on the beach with the good chairs separate bar and waiter service. The staff in this resort are truly an asset. All of them were wonderful and friendly and would greet us with a hug or a hand shake. Angel luis, Marcel,Juan,Oslen at the pina colada bar by the pool (he makes the most amazing strawberry daiquaries)thank you. Now for the food. On the beach they serve very good pizza, and beside the diamond club bar they have grill there and for 2 weeks all he had there were hot dogs and ham and cheese sandwiches. We saw ketchup the second week and when they started to run low they watered it down and the mustard is watered down also so if you like your condiments bring your own.The welcome dinner for diamond club was very good as were the a la cartes. The buffet is small but they have pasta grill , stir fry (my favourite) fish and meat grill and they carve something new every night. We took the double decker bus one day and went to pillar beach then took it to come back and stopped at the market then took a cab to lenny's for a wonderful dinner (lobster,shrimp, fish, rice and salad for 15cuc). We did find that entertainment was lacking. They had a very good Cuban band that would go around and sing at your table but most people did not want to be bothered while they were eating. We would of liked for them to just set up somewhere and play so that we could enjoy them. We only went to one show and that was the Micheal Jackson show and it was very good.The aquatic show at the pool was good also and the foam party in the pool on Fridays was fun to watch. I have to say that we enjoyed our two weeks very much and would recommend it but we will not be returning. The next time it will be a newer resort probably Santa Maria (our favourite place).

Great resort

The rooms were large. Only 2 single beds or 1 king bed in each room so for a family of 4 u sleep 2 to a single bed. You could not get clean pool towels everyday it was every 3 days or so. The resort waS very clean too

Average hotel even per Cuban standards

I spent two weeks at Memories Caribe Beach Resort from October 14-28, 2015. Now some good stuff: 1) Amazing beach and plenty of loungers to choose from; 2) Good maintenance of the resort grounds; 3) Good food (though becomes a bit repetitive after awhile but I was still able to choose something I really enjoyed); 4) Plenty of day time activities. Something to improve on: 1) Service. Despite tips, at times I felt it was nonexistent, especially at the 24-hour bar. Or coffee served without spoo [... read more]n, sugar and saucer at the buffet. Or no salt and pepper on tables making guests hunting for ones (again at the buffet). Or serving drinks, including coffee in plastic glasses after 9 a.m. or so that actually took away from enjoying your drinks; 2) Room service. Bad. No restocking shampoo and soap. No cleaning floors. A cochroach and a mouse comfortably living in the room; 3) Lack of night entertainment. Nothing to do after 9 o'clock show but drink. No disco on the resort. Guests who wish to go and dance are required to pay 10 CUC and take a bus ride to a near by hotel Melia. 4) Hotel definitely needs some upgrades. PS: Caution for those who may be allergic to jellyfish. I am not sure if it is seasonal but there were plenty of not very happy jellyfish that stung me every time I went into the ocean. I must say that those stings were burning badly and sometimes were quite painful.

A good resort

The resort was very clean but does need some update the people that worked there were very nice and would do all they could to help you. The room we had was cleaned every day but my wife would have liked the sheets changed every other day but they were only changed 3 times in 14 days. The ceiling leaked but that was from upstairs .And when l called the lobby 3 times before l went to the pubic relations person and she got someone to take a look at it and then it was fixed in 2 days .But it was le [... read more]aking in the shower so it was no big deal . The maid who we had cleaned the room every day and she did a good job l will say. Just that l forgotten her name .The staff at the all you can eat were the best off all .the food was not bad but there was food for everyone if you were a fussy eater. They need to learn how to cook beef thou. And l do miss my bacon .We did have it 2 times in 14 days thou. The pool was very clean and well taken care of and the pool bar was very good with your drinks And the one bar was the best Pina Coladas l had .They also make a type of donut there that were to good .You should taste them if you get a change. The beach was the best that l have been to in cuba and the water was so clear and shallow and warm but watch out for jelly fish they are small but hurt when you get stung. We were there for 14 day and about 4-5 people a day got stung . The biggest complaint that l have is the the second week we stayed there people from Quebec came there and the service for english people seemed to get bad alot of the staff seemed to prefer them over english speaking..We would be line wait to be served and the french people would butt in and get served and if we said some thing they the server would say they don't understand us. Don't get me wrong there were some good french people from Quebec who were very nice but more bad . I would go back but now l know what to expect and l wouldn't go out of my way to tip as much .Its a shame for the staff we had and liked did a great job.

Mosquito city

Hotel and grounds were very good beach was poor not enough sand very rocky. Come dusk and early morning you almost had to wear mosquito netting the bugs were so bad. Excellent setting for nature lovers

Great report, poor rooms

Poor rooms, furniture has to be replace and walls and cealing has to be refresh but it was very clean. Every demands were accommodated prontly Service was extraordinary. No coffee mate for coffee in the room

Needs updating

The resorts was nice. Grounds were beautiful,and the staff was very friendly. The issues I had were the rooms, great location but that's it. Water was never very hot so it was warm showers. The air conditioning was very poor. I asked for someone to look at it including the sunwing rep and nothing changed. I told the resort staff and the sunwing rep my husband had lung issues and this needed to be fixed but still nothing!!! The food was good, many choices and you always had the option of selectin [... read more]g freshly prepared. I must mention omelet station was fantastic! Enjoyed omelet every morning. I found the pool nice but lacked in cleaning. I believe the cause is resort guest. They leave their garbage around the pool and it ends up in the pool!! I understand the challenges in Cuba so I don't have high expectations. I go for the weather and beach, however I do expect air conditioning which was not delivered. After speaking with many guest I found out many many rooms had the same issues, no hot water, almost no air conditioning. Unfortunately I will not return to this resort. I'd like to mention we were a group of six and no one will be returning. We travel Cuba at least three times a year and this resort is off our list. Please fix your problems ,, rooms are in need of major repairs!!!

Another great time at the Caribe

This was trip no 4 to this Resort, we travelled as a group of 7 and without exception we are all looking forward to our next visit, Staff are among the best anywhere, we have travelled many times to Cuba and this resort is the favorite. The beach is lovely and the new patio area makes a nice shaded area to relax or enjoy a pizza. Pool area is very well taken care of and is so inviting spent a lot of time there and it is so central to Bars, Buffet, Ice cream shop, Front Desk and Bank. Memories Caribe Resort - Good Value for money !!!

The grounds are very well kept - downside : the beachfront walk (not the actual beach area) was very 'muddy' and exceptionally smelly (like being in the Camel house at a zoo). It was a little disappointing that there were only 2 a-la-carte nights, although beware... the Italian night is at the beach and you will be eaten alive by the mosquitoes - this meal was also the meal we enjoyed the least (small portions with little taste :-( ) The STAFF are wonderful, very friendly, polite and always will [... read more]ing to help :-) We had 3 rooms in block 17 and found the location was ideal for all happenings (beach, pool, meals & lobby) - the rooms are spacious, clean and cool (thanks to air-conditioning) - the beds were very very hard but we still slept well (although waking to a few back twinges). There is no on-site disco, instead there is supposed to be a bus at 10.30pm that will take you to a disco (first 20 passengers get to go free - don't know how much if not free - and unfortunately, the 1 night we decided to go to the disco (the Monday night) - the bus did not arrive even though we waited till just after 11pm. The buffet restaurant had an ample choice of things to eat with 2 stations cooking food to order (omelettes, eggs etc, & waffles - in the morning), (made to order pasta dishes & stir-fried meats at the other 2 meal-times). There was also a carvery every night - Andrew's special sauce to go with the roast pork is a must-try - I do not normally have sauces with my food but on his recommendation I tried his special sauce and it was wonderful - really complimented the taste and succulence of the roast pork, and to my delight - I got to have some of the 'crackling'(crispy pork rind) - I think that night was probably my favourite of all the meals :-) The 24-hour snack bar was a little disappointing as pizza was only offered between noon and 5pm, however the fresh cooked fries were wonderful - very tasty and crispy :-). The hot sandwich was only available as ham & cheese and was prepared on either burger buns or half hot-dog buns (depending on what they had available) - small but tasty. Coffee and hot beverages were available everywhere and the coffee was wonderful. The Lounge Bar (enclosed air-conditioned room) offered an excellent choice of coffee beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) - my husband and I enjoyed a night of trying various coffee drinks and enjoyed them all :-) - their cocktail selection was also excellent. My daughter's approved of the Virgin Pina Colada as well as the traditional version, and I approved of Cubre Libre (Rum & Coke) :-) The resort was definitely value for money. We recommend you do the VIP upgrade (only available to purchase once you are at the resort) for the return trip (costs 25cup (around $37 cdn$) - you get priority check-in at the airport and use of the air-conditioned VIP lounge where you are offered complimentary drinks and snacks (hot sandwiches etc) - well worth the comfort - there is also a smoking room attached to the lounge. VIP's also get priority boarding on the plane.

Beautiful people, beach, and resort!

My boyfriend and I went together August 25-September 1, 2015. We could not have asked for a better experience. I have been to Cuba three times now (including this time) and this was definitely the best. Met some really cool people while we were there and was in great company all week long. The waiters/waitresses/bartenders/front desk staff/cleaners/maids/entertainment staff/maintenance/sunwing rep were ALL amazing. Everybody was really friendly, the resort was very clean, and the beach... oh my goodness the beach was beautiful. I read a few complains about the beach having a limited amount of loungers for non diamond club members and I do agree with them. Although we personally did not have any issues with finding loungers, we saw people walking up and down the beach looking for them. We saw a lot of fish that came REALLY close to shore and we also saw lots of fish, a starfish, a crab and lots of sand dollars! Also, because it's Cuba, I would like to comment on this resort's food. It was actually REALLY good for Cuba! I very much so enjoyed the grill stations in the buffet -- the stir fry and fish were my favourites for lunch and dinner, and of course the eggs and french toast were delicious in the morning. There's also a churros station at the pool bar (not the swim up or snack bar) and an ice cream parlour. Both were great!! Churros were made right there in the bar area so it was really fresh. Also, big shout out to the beach bartenders for the awesome mojitos, and the lobby bar for the café alexanders. You guys were amazing! There's always something to do while you're there at the resort. At the pool, there's aquafit classes, obstacle course races, dance performances, and water volleyball (there may be more but I can't remember all of the activities). At the beach, there's dance classes and beach volleyball. This resort is GREAT for families because they have kids shows and activities all the time. We also took booked the catamaran excursion and we had a wonderful time. Our catamaran was El Rayo and shout out to the captain and second in command, we had such a great time. The food was cooked right on the catamaran and it was delicious. We went to two snorkeling sites where we got to see a lot of fish and more starfish! Well worth it unless you have unrealistic expectations in my opinion. :) I plan on coming back again VERY soon. Thank you, Memories Caribe, for such an amazing experience. Perfect for families

This is our 3'rd trip to Cuba and this was the best resort we've stayed at. The beach was fantastic as was the pool. The drinks were hit and miss depending on the bar tender, best drinks were at the Churro stand by the pool. Afternoon and nightly entertainment for the kids and then adults involving them in games. The soap suds party on Friday was awesome. Nice to have an ice cream bar by the pool.

Amazing Resort

The hotel and grounds is very nice will maintained, very clean. The People are very friendly. The workers spoke English so it made it easier to communicate with them. The beach was beautiful white sand and it went on for miles. I would definitely go back.

Great resort awesome beach

Everything was great couldnt ask for a better resort everyone was so niceand helpful always willing to do whatever they could to make my stay better. Always something new and exciting going on and great drinks and good looking workers

Amazing resort!

I really enjoyed how the employees were friendly and caring. The food was also pretty good as there was a variety and something to chose from. The grounds was also very clean as was our hotel room. The only thing which i would change are the excessive mosquitos which perhaps can be handled with more spraying and mesh around sections of the resort. Also the night entertainment was usually good but ended by 10 so perhaps to end this sometimes at 11 or so.

Awesome vacation

Quick check-in. Amazing and friendly staff, great food, good entertainment, and words cannot describe how amazing the beach! Only downfall was the mosquitoes at night time, without repellent there would have been nothing left of me. It was because of the time of year! We lived haha

Fabulous Vacation

The grounds and pool are well kept and the rooms are comfortable. The beach and ocean are absolutely amazing. You can walk for miles on the sand bar when the tide goes out in the afternoon. The drinks are cold and plentiful - bring an insulated cup as the ice melts quickly. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The food is a little bland, but to be expected for Cuba.

Love it, good people

I have been to this resort 6 times, they treat me very good there. You get what you pay for in Cuba. For less than a $1000 I had 10 nights all included. People need to understand Cuba is a poor country. Cayo Coco is about 1 hour away by car from the the mainland. Not everything is available as quickly as might be in other places. Some of the rooms are in need of fixing up. If you expect a lot, go elsewhere and pay $1500 or more. The beach is the best and the staff works hard to please you. The b [... read more]ugs were really bad this time, May is their rainy season. However, it doesn't rain for long and the sun is back out. People should bring insect repellent for sure.The French from Quebec can be very rude at times. BUT this is NOT Cuba's fault.

Good Vacation

Stayed at Memories Caribe with family (three couples) from April 7th to the 21st Sunwing – We booked and flew through Sunwing as everyone does and to start off I’ll tell you I’m not a fan of sunwing but unfortunately they seem to be the only ones who fly to a lot of places we want to go. It has nothing to do with the cabin crew as they are always very nice, but it’s the constant changing of flights, being late and reps that leave a lot to be desired once you get down there. No matter what the issue was she was always there to help us and make sure everything was fixed. It was so nice to have a rep that was more worried about our vacation being memorable than selling us excursions. Her assistant Toni was great too! Food – This is one area that we’re surprised at, for the most part the food was very good. No matter what, you could always find something good to eat. My son really like the stir fry’s and they make a roasted chicken that would rival anything here. There is a pancake station and they are very nicely done. One cook even makes hearts and flower shapes for the kids and friends he makes. He is very friendly. Pool area – The pool area is very nice with lots of chairs, we found we didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to get a chair for the day. The guy at the churros bar (sorry I can remember his name) with the deep voice (he should do voice commercials for Dodge Ram lol) was quite the guy, always smiling and walking around to ensure your drink was still full. Beach – Not going to say too much on this as everyone else has summed it up pretty good, TOTALLY AWESOME. Only drawback is the towel game is alive and well here, you have to get up at an ungodly hour just to get a chair and shade. They need to make more palapa as they have enough chairs just not enough shaded areas. Also when you walk down to the beach there is often this funky smell that I think is coming from the lagoon, but it is gross. So you need to choose the further ends of the beach to get away from it. Their is a pizza hut and a hamburger, hotdog and ham and cheese pannini hut which is pretty good along with the bar at the entrance to the beach. So you can just stay there for lunch if you want to eat at your beach chair or their are a few tables set up to eat by the cooking area too. People – One word INCREDABLE, always smiling and friendly, they all work so hard yet they treat you just like a friend. Here are some of our favourite: • Lobby Bar – Yissel, Maryland and Luis, the best service and smiles, and jokers • Wine Bar – O’Neil, super nice guy, so happy to please you • Special Coffees – this is a little cart outside the buffet at night, O’Nay was so friendly and master of coffee concoctions, yummy! • Buffet – the short order guy who does the eggs in the morning (again sorry can’t remember his name) He’s a big guy with a big heart and always willing to talk. BTW – he loves baseball, talk about baseball and you’re friends for life. Also during supper one of our favorite waitress was Dianna, as soon as she saw you her big smile would light up and you were welcomed to dinner Rooms – This is the one area we had our problems and needed Betty, despite the fact they were well cleaned ( a little tried looking though, but it’s a room) we had to change our room 3 times due to lack of air conditioning. Apparently they had a problem throughout the resort and had some technicians from Havana brought in to work on it. Hopefully they get it fixed. Our son and his wife had their air working fine. Our friends had mediocre air like us. So if air is a must for you, then you will have to decide as it might be a game of Russian roulette. Otherwise good value for the money, (or bring a couple of fans just in case). Now to be fair once this was finally done every day after this we got a call from public relations asking if everything was ok and if they could do anything else for us. Tips: Wine bar: This is a must and we’ll never understand why Memories nor Sun wing does not advertise this little gem. The only reason we knew about it was from a review on this website by another guest. It’s an extra cost of 10 peso pp but well worth it. O’Neil takes you through all their wines, Spanish, French, Chilean and others, he explains what you can expect from each bottle and then you can try them. You can stay as long as you want and try as many bottles as you want, he also has deli meats with cheese and crackers. You basically have the whole room to yourself, your private wine room. There is a tv too if there’s a game on and you want to sip on your wine and enjoy . This was one of our favourite parts of the trip. Gardeners: Ask a gardener for a coconut and he’ll climb a tree and get you one, then mix the milk with rum, excellent. Don’t forget to give him a tip for his troubles. Snack shack pool : When you go there you’ll think they only serve hot dogs and hamburgers, but they serve so much more, make sure you ask for a menu, we only found out about this when we left. Also apparently can fill up your water bottles yourself there with purified water, another tip we didn't find out till leaving. Beach: Ask the snack guy on the beach for old bread and then walk out into the ocean where you can feed 100’s of cool looking fish. The room thing was annoying but a vacation is what you make of it, we could have complained the whole time we were there and been absolutely miserable but we didn’t pay for that. You bare with the issues, go to your rep (the amazing Betty) and get it fixed and move on. All in all it was a very good vacation. Stayed April 2015, travelled with friends

Worst trip ever

Dear Sir or Madam, We had the worst experience at that resort. When we arrived at the resort, the Memories music was not playing. We were welcomed at the end of a pathway at the end of the main buildings, given a glass of punch and a map of the resort. We had to find our building on our own. When we booked, we asked to be in the buildings 20 to 24. This request was totally ignored. We both have back problems and were given the farthest building from the beach on the resort. We explained our p [... read more]roblem and asked to be moved to a building closer to the beach. They refused. I have a CPAP machine. There was no plug by the bed. I asked for an extension. They claimed they did not have one. They sent somebody to our room to figure what they could do. The man who came to our room had to move the bed closer to a plug with my CPAP plug at its maximum length. No room for movement. My $4,500 CPAP machine fell twice on the floor during my stay. My CPAP machine has to be plugged on 110 volt. I brought a converter because I knew Cuba operates on 220 volt. We firmly told the man who came to our room not to plug it in before we figure out which converter to use. He kept arguing it could go on 220 volt. Despite our strict refusal, he plugged it in and started the machine. I was extremely upset and stopped it immediately and unplugged it. The resort gave us a late check out because of that. When we complained to our Sunwing representative, he directed us to Customer Relations. He did not help us. We complained to their Customer Relations person to have an extension cord. The person said they would deliver one to our room. They never did. The garden view was a long trench with pipes in it and piles of soil dug out. Our room did not have air conditioning for the entire week of our stay. The temperature at night was ranging from 27 to 32. We asked to be moved to a different room with air conditioning. They kept telling us there was none available and to ask them again in 2 days. My husband suffered from heat exhaustion. He was sick for 3 days and was unable to get out of the room for a full day. He lost 12 pounds because of the heat and he was unable to eat. Three hours after getting home, he was seeing our family doctor. He was given antibiotics and put on a rice and dry toast diet. There were stains on the sheets. We asked that they replace them. We had to ask 3 times over several days before it was done. There were big holes in the bath towels. There were no facecloths. The food was awful. So blend. Everything tasted the same. The beef was so tough, I was unable to cut it at all. Our previous trips to Cuba had decent food, so we were surprised at how bad it was. Twice we had sour butter and twice we had sour milk.
