We had a great time ! The resort was terrific, the staff were very good and happy to help and very friendly. My only bad thing was that you can hear the people in the next room, but overall the place was great

Iberostar Waves Cozumel: Enjoyed Our Stay

We were looking for a quieter resort with options for snorkelling. Iberostar Cozumel is an older, smaller, resort, with very lush grounds, located close to a number of excellent snorkelling sites. The rooms we stayed in were renovated and kept clean. Because of the high humidity, the rooms did have a musty smell, which one had to get used to. Perhaps a second story room would have been better. The steak house, which required a reservation, was our favourite. I would consider this resort closer to 3.5-4 star resort rather than a 5 star. Having said that, I would still consider returning.

Occidental Cozumel: Great beach

We had some problems with construction in our building. We were taken care of by a lovely lady at the front desk Sara Gonzalez. Renovations and internet wiring did not stop us from enjoying the beach. The buffet is very small, but you always find something to eat. Suggest ordering room service for breakfast as bacon is served on the "American breakfast" Not available at buffet. Did not make reservations for specialty restaurants as line up in morning turned me off. If you go with concierge servi [... read more]ce they are booked for you on arrival. Allegro Cozumel: Very nice resort

Rooms were clean and modern could be noisy at times. Pools were very clean. We never had trouble finding a lounge chair. Washrooms were very clean. Beach was was clean with nice sand and snorkling was great right in front of resort. Buffet was ok nothing fancy but the alacarts were very good. Staff were great very friendly and prompt. I will go back at a later date. Wild life were fun to see. Lots of excursions to take in.

Iberostar Waves Cozumel: Fun resort

Found the Iberostar Cozumel to be a nice relaxing resort that was smaller in size than the normal places we stay but that worked well for us. The entertainment team was spectacular and had the kids busy most days, the grounds were kept immaculate and clean. We are divers and were located near the dive shop which was a bonus. The beach is very rocky, but you can enter from the pier and snorkel around with the fish. Food was ok, fewer selections than the bigger resorts but all I tired I did en [... read more]joy. We had a few bumps along the way, but the management did an excellent job of dealing with all the issues that came up. Rooms are small and cozy, we never ran out of hot water once and we had 4 people showering one after the other. This resort stands as a solid 7 out of 10 for me.

Most beautiful place to go.Very safe, great staff,white sand beach,plenty of fish just off the dock.secluded area away from town.Visits by large eguanas ,coatis, and wild boars.lovely views from ocean side pools and lunch restaurant.Small buffet only down fall but still plenty of food.I have been to lots of places and this is one of my favorites.Would recommend it to anyone,young or old

Grand Park Royal Cozumel: Amazing resort

My self along with 6 others from my family stayed at the Grand park Royal from February 3-10 2017! My first impression as we arrived was "wow" the hotel was beautiful, amazing architectural design of the inside and outside of hotel! Instantly greeted by staff with a beverage! Very quick check in! Room was spacious for 2 adults and 2 children! Our view was of the main pool, which was beautiful to wake up to in the mornings! Hotel grounds where very well kept and always clean! Room was cleaned very well each day! My kids enjoyed the many foods catered to kids especially for my picky children lol Dinner was very enjoyable as well, didn't do much of the lunch buffet since we stayed at the beach and pool all day and enjoyed the food by the poolside! The cafe with plenty of choices for ice cream was one of my kids favourite thing to have! A few things to improve on is more beach/pool chairs! I had to wake up at 7am everyday to try and get a chair! Another thing would be to open the other side of the buffet in the evenings! With only one side open the line up for food was very long! Didn't understand why they would have two sides open for breakfast but not dinner! I would highly recommend you book your al carte dinners right away because availability is limited! Other then that the hotel exceeded my expectations! I would highly recommended this hotel to others! Mainly family, couple and older adults! Definitely a hotel to just relax, if you are looking for a party scene I would look else where! Look forward to visiting this resort again

Grand Park Royal Cozumel: Good Value but not helpful at front Hotel desk

Really liked Hotel grounds and building. Lots of marble and very clean. Staff friendly and always willing to help. Love the coffee and ice cream shop and also buffet and other restaurants had good food with themes different nights- Carribbean,Japanese and Mexican which were delicious. The poor experiences I had was with the Sunwing representative at the resort Arteur Calderon who did not relay information well at all. He is too busy to speak about anything other than outside excrusions and it was a very big deal to even get our voucher for taxi to airport upon leaving. Very self important man who talked over and over about the same thing which was very boring. We also had requests placed when booking for King beds as we were three couples travelling together. We also wanted rooms near each other but the front reception at Grand Park Royal Cozumel did not seem to have a clue about this and indeed was going to place us two floors away from the other couples. No King beds available I guess as suddenly their english seemed nonessistent although the porter in the lobby had excellent english. Really if they could have just explained we could not be accommodated as requested because it was not available we would have understood but they acted like it was all new information. This was very disappointing at the beginning of our week but like the hotel porter said "more Tequila" and that did seem to help. Would recommend this resort as it is close to town, taxi, ferry and moped and jeep rentals and so lots of fun on resort and off.

Occidental Cozumel: Very Nice Experience !

Excellent value .....a little understaffed in the dining room but they try very hard....the grounds are outstanding! As usual there is a shortage of shade ........why is this always a problem ????? The pools and beach area need more chairs and lounges.....there is plenty of room for more but they don't want to provide ample seating for guests ....very short sighted! I don't mind getting up at 6 am to go down to the water's edge to claim a spot but a lot of people are very upset by the lack o [... read more]f available seating.

Allegro Cozumel: Gorgeous Resort

Returned on Feb 11th. This was our first time at a resort in Cozumel. We spent a day on a cruise stop a couple years ago. The resort is beautiful, well manicured, nice pools, beautiful beach. The food was good but buffet seemed to have the same food every night. The beach bbq was excellent. Our room was in block 22. Allegro Cozumel: Great resort!

We stayed in room 4224 which is on the right hand side of the play pool heading towards the beach. (Each building is two stories high with 4 rooms on each level). The room was clean and the regular maid exceptional. The beds and pillows were the most comfortable I have ever slept in from a resort. The room is bright with excellent black out curtains. There are no drawers or dressers in this particular room, only a closet and night table. Everything worked very well, including the hairdryer whi [... read more]ch had a dimmable night light on it, safe, air conditioning and TV. We always had hot water. The only issues were debris from the thatch roof coming onto the beds and tiny ants, but we didn't complain about these seeing the nature of each building. The ants we continually flushed down the drain and never put limes in our room again from the bubbas. The ants pretty much left. Keep in mind; the adjoining door to the room behind yours and walls are not sound proof!!! Like a lot of resorts, you can hear most things that go on in the other room(s). Please be mindful of this for respect of your "neighbour(s)". The hammocks on the patios were a nice touch and we saw lots of people using them. I want to mention the staff before I forget. Everyone was terrific towards us and very friendly. We never had an issue with anyone on the resort. Treat people with kindness you'll get the same in return. Act like an ass or arrogant jerk and you should expect less than stellar treatment. Having said that, our "star" staff from the week of Jan. 23 - Feb. 3 2017 were these: our "regular" room maid (you could tell her days off), who kept the room immaculate and made the best towel art we've ever seen! We never saw her or got her name, but thank you!; Luis at the Beach Bar (lively pool), who was extremely friendly and made great drinks including caesars (ask for not as much "brown mix" and they're perfect!). He would joke with you and had a great demeanor; Monica at the buffet restaurant for breakfast and at the lunch restaurant. She was always "on" and so very sweet and pleasant. Her famous saying, "It's a pleasure" or "My pleasure"; Angel at the breakfast and lunch. Jokey and nice; Hector at the Italian restaurant and buffet. He was personable and pleasant. Nice to talk to.; Maria who makes the omelettes. She has those down to a science. She works hard, so a little smile goes a long way.; the whole animation team, including Raul and a guy who wore a "dog" hat, so I called him Scooby Do. The grounds were immaculate and there were workers there always cleaning, fixing, mowing, planting, upgrading. The sound system was being worked on so that speakers would be "hidden" in fake "rocks" so that as you walked down the walkways the music could be heard. They even had a falcon and falconer that came around during certain parts of the day to keep their version of crows/grackles away. The washrooms, especially by the beach, were always kept very clean. If there was an issue, it was dealt with. This was also I think due in part to how the patrons kept the washrooms as well. I've been to resorts where the clientele was less than respectful to helping the staff keep the bathrooms nice. Being maybe a family friendly resort could have something to do with it???? Anyway, I was impressed. There were 4 restaurants at the Allegro; buffet, italian, japanese and mexican. Because we stayed 11 days, we could do 3 a la cartes. We decided to try all of them. All were great and we were stuffed by all of them. Our favourites were the Japanese and Italian, but watching the sun set at the Mexican was nice. We are not that picky when it comes to eating; we can always find something to eat. The buffet was probably the best at breakfast, and the lunch at beach restaurant (Mexican a la carte) second. They would also have a BBQ about every second day there with hamburgers and then either chicken or pork or both. Excellent!!! The buffet restaurant at dinner we could always find something to eat, but if we could change one thing about it it would be variety. Like I said, we did not go hungry! There's more than enough food, but a few dishes were too repetitive. There was enough to do for us around the small resort. They had volleyball, water volleyball, water basketball, table tennis, tennis, night entertainment, disco, lessons of all sorts like Spanish, bracelet making, paella cooking, towel art making, etc. You had the choice of a few pools (kid's, quiet and lively), plus a couple small ones, one of which was reserved for time share people. The kid's pool looked like a lot of fun! Also has a bar there. All pools were cleaned daily, and several times the liner was scrubbed by staff. The beach was very nice and one of the best on the island! Turquoise water, soft white sand (made from coral is my guess), palm trees for some shade and if you like snorkeling, some fish. Because Cozumel is known for diving and snorkeling, there are many tour operators for that and you see many boats out on the water that go to the various drop off points. We did a snorkeling excursion and were lucky enough to be on a boat with mostly divers, so there were only four of us snorkelers! Compare prices with going to the actual dive shop on the resort, an outside vendor or other tour operator at the resort. We paid $57 each US (about 4600 pesos) directly from the dive shop on the resort. Others got it for $50 US from their tour operator. WiFi/Internet is expensive, so you can go across the street from the resort to Iguanas, order a beer or something to eat, and you can use their WiFi there for free if you need to contact home. If not, relax and leave the cell phone in your safe. You're on vacation! :) There's also a little further down a market shop (complete with Juan Valdez donkey) where you can buy some mementos. You can get Mexican blankets there for as little as $10 US, whereas the vendors on the beach sell them for much more. The one guy I ended up buying from anyway for $20 US had an attitude so watch out for him. I should have bought elsewhere, but I got the blanket I wanted. Trust me, the beach vendor will barter. The market shop owner will also bargain. The shop on the resort is pricier, but is more boutique-like with some nicer products and toiletries. You can also get things on the resort at the shop by the kiddie pool. You can buy t-shirts, jewelery, sunglasses or even ceramics there, or pick an un-painted one and hand paint it yourself!! The lady there will fix any muck-ups and fire and glaze your handy work! Three of us ladies did this, and depending on the piece you choose, you have your own masterpiece in about a couple of hours! It was fun and not just for the kids!! You get your finished product the next day and prices are subject to item chosen. The time share people there are in cream coloured shirts. They will ask you if you're interested, but a polite "no gracias" will do. They also just say hello to you, so if they recognize you from before, you'll probably not be bothered again by them, unless of course, you would like to talk time share. I didn't personally find them pushy. Order your a la cartes early in the morning. They fill up fast! Bring money. Taxis aren't the cheapest there. Watch which vendor you use for renting your own jeep; a couple we met there rented a jeep and it was a piece of crap, BUT did the job and they had an awesome time touring the island by themselves and stopping off at places. Another couple rented a car to do the same thing, and paid for sight seeing tours themselves, which they thought was much less expensive to do than through excursion operators. You will meet so many people, so pick people's brains on what to do!!! Get info like we did and make decisions on stuff you'd like to do from them. Everyone has their own unique experience! As well, we never found trouble getting a beach or pool chair. The busiest day on the resort was when the cruise ships came in and the clients could purchase a day pass to the resort. All in all, we had a great trip! I would recommend this resort if you want to relax and don't mind kids being around, as it is family friendly. It was just my husband and I and we met some great people! We would go back no problem!!

As above, rooms excellent with all conveniences - some long walks - (# 18) nice grounds and walkways (why no benches to sit) ?? espec. when a bit disabled. Occas. got a ride. Beach good, pools good (I am a swimmer) but too many iguanas...........

Grand Park Royal Cozumel: Resort was fantastic!

Resort was fantastic. My family really enjoyed the entire resort. Nice and compact so not far to walk to get to anything. Watching the cruise boats come and go was entertaining and not bothersome at all. Food was very good and all of the staff aim to please. View from our oceanfront room was so nice. Very clean and well kept. Snorkeling right at the resort was very good. Dont believe the negative comments on some websites Only complaint was cold hottubs

Allegro Cozumel: Perfection in Every way!!!

Not only is Cozumel our new favourite place to travel, but the Allegro is such a gem that we look forward to returning again and again! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome and very happy!! In the beginning, it was just another awesome vacation! However, that all changed during dinner the day after we arrived!! My boyfriend of almost 7 years, finally decided to take the plunge!! He had gone to so much trouble to make sure I had the beach wedding of my dreams! The wedding I'd been telling him for years that I would love to have....if he ever decided to take step. Mirna and Monica were such a great help to Jeff in all the planning and preparation for our big day! It's overwhelming when I think of every little detail that was taken care of!! One of our dear friends was a huge help as well! Thanks to Andrea for helping Jeff whenever he had a question, concern, whatever the case was. The dinner on the beach was so beautiful!!! The wedding was even more beautiful! Every detail...every second...was PERFECTION!!! This was the first wedding in a while at the Allegro, and they did an amazing job!!! If anyone reading this is thinking of a destination wedding, you will not be disappointed!! As for the resort overall, there's nothing bad to say. I could go on and on about every wonderful thing at the resort, but let me sum up by saying that if anyone has any reservations about this resort, snap out of it! The entire staff goes above and beyond to make sure that the guests are happy!! The recent renovations were top notch! The most comfortable beds/pillows of any resort I've ever been to and we've been to several! The restaurants were beyond amazing!! Oriental, italian and Mexican were all so yummy!!! When I say "I'm sad that it's gone", that's a huge compliment to the chef!! I said that every time!! lol! My scale can confirm my love of the food we ate while we were there!! Again, i could go on, but I'm sure you know by now, this is a wonderful resort! It was our first time in Cozumel, and I know there are many more to choose from. My husband and I are very happy that we chose the Allegro Cozumel! :) :) :)

El Cozumeleno Beach: Very nice place to spend a week

The resort itself was spotless. The employees were constantly cleaning and scrubbing everywhere. I found everyone very friendly from waiters, bartenders maids and even the gardeners and maintence staff. The bed was quite comfortable. We quite liked our room. The beach towel policy was bizarre. Towels had to be returned daily at 7pm for laundering. At other resorts, if they are dry, I don't exchange them, as I like to limit unnecessary laundering. The only thing that I found disappoint [... read more]ing was the food. We didn't make it to the single a la carte restaurant for supper, as we could not get inappropriately timed reservation. We did go there for breakfast but found we waited almost an hour for the food. We went at lunch too, and it was much better. The buffet restaurant was so repetitive, it was exhausting. Basically, fajitas were offered from the grill for lunch and dinner every day. The food in the buffet table was often cold. Coffee was very inconsistent, but mostly poor. Desserts were very unappealing, with a very limited selection. There was lovely fresh fruit and vegetables daily which we did enjoy. The sausages were delicious and my husband was pretty happy that there was bacon daily, albeit given in limited amounts. Some of the things I really enjoyed included snorkeling. Octopus, eels,stingrays pufferfish, peacock flounders, and filefish were some of the fish that I saw right in front of the hotel. Animation team - Spanish classes were terrific. Muchas gracias a mis profesores, Alexis, Angel y Diego excelentes. You guys made my week, mis amigos! Also I enjoyed the snorkelling tour and the water aerobics classes. The rock band, Karma https://m.facebook.com/karmacozumel/ and @karmacozumel was great fun. Of all the nightly entertainment shows we have seen at all-inclusive resorts, I enjoyed this the most. Very well done, especially how they picked songs that were appealing to so many age groups. Well done, Fernando, for getting these guys. On the day we were leaving, we were so excited to see dolphins swimming in front of the hotel. That was a lovely end to a fabulous week!

Allegro Cozumel: Awesome Resort - Great Staff

I had two anaphylactic food reactions at this resort. No fault of the staff. They took great care of me in getting ambulances to me quickly to travel to the hospital. When I was released from the hospital, I had to have a special diet. Instead of the buffet, the chef made me special items from scratch and even had them delivered to the beach restaurant. The Italian a-la-carte dinner chef made me a special entree that was absolutely excellent! Allegro Cozumel: Nice resort

Very nice resort. The grounds were nicely manicured and kept clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. The beach was nice but you had to be quick to get your chair in the morning. The pool area was very nice and they also had a childrens pool and play area. The food at the buffets was very good as well as at the à la cartes. Would recommend this resort.

The Staff & food was very nice not much Mexican authentic meals . We had beautiful weather the view from our room was good .Layout of resort was nice we only found out later in our week that the joining resort was also included in our package.. Very disappointed in the snorkeling travel agent informed us of great snorkeling .. not true we took part of a snorkeling tour where we where all 30 told to stay in close proximities ... Again al I saw where other snorkelers fins & legs worst trip ever [... read more] I have traveled for the last 10 years to different places I would return to CUBA before going back to Mexico half the money not as commercialized better snorkeling & same level of food experience

Occidental Cozumel: Super!

Fantastic staff, good location, beautiful siteseens, good value for money, amazing beach. Rooms are clean and spacious. Gardens are well taken care of with a lot of wildness. The sunset is breathtaken.

Occidental Cozumel: Cozumel Occidental Grand, pros and cons

Here is my evaluation of the Occidental Grand Cozumel at which my friend and I stayed January 27 to February 3, 2017. The evaluation is meant to help you guide others who might be contemplating staying at this resort. 1. The grounds of this hotel are quite beautiful and meticulously maintained. The cottages are secluded and interspersed, each sitting in a lovely botanical setting and independent of the others, offering perfect privacy. 2. Our room seemed to have been recently renovated. I [... read more]t was a generous size, clean, and bright. The linen was good quality. Bottled water in our room was always in good supply. I found that tipping the maid ahead guaranteed exceptional service. She was excellent. 3. The bathroom also seemed new, tiled from floor to ceiling in a terracotta large tiles. 4. Hot water was always available, and the shower heads, one fixed and one hand-held, worked well. The safe and the closet were both situated in the bathroom. This is not a practical arrangement. This inconvenience brought my rating of the room to "fair" 5. If we left a request, towels were replaced daily, and in generous numbers. 6. Bathroom items such as soap and shampoo were plentiful. 7. The air-conditioning unit worked; however, the thermostat control did not. No matter at what temperature we set the unit, it ran continuously. The air-conditioning vent was situated in an upper section of the wall in such a way to blow directly onto one of the beds. 8. The fan in the room worked and for my purposes was a perfect solution to nocturnal temperatures. I am a sound sleeper and the buzz of the fan did not disturb me. 9. The main buffet restaurant offered average quality dishes, but there was ample choice, and even a chef making tasty meat or fish dishes to request. Salad choices were ample, vegetables were offered raw as well as cooked, and there were numerous desserts. The desserts to me were mostly inedible, but perhaps my dessert palate is not accustomed to Mexican sweets. For example, their mousse bore no resemblance to mousse one eats at our restaurants. There was, however, always fresh fruit. 4. We were led to believe that we would be entitled to eating at speciality restaurants 3 times during our stay. However, once we checked in, someone told us that the resort is so full that we would be able to eat at these restaurants only 2 times during our stay. Evidence showed that this is a deliberate deception in the brochure, as these speciality restaurants were never filled to capacity. On the contrary, they seemed more than half empty every single day. 4. Food in speciality restaurants turned out to be exactly the same as in the buffet. The chef took a tiny cut of meat or fish (2 square inches), fanned a few slices of zucchini and carrots around it, and drizzled some reduced balsamic over the dish, and presented it as a gourmet plate. The pasta in the Mediterranean Room was really quite horrible, overdone and soggy. The Seafood Specialty Restaurant on the beach was mediocre at best, although the ocean view and the stars made up for the food mediocrity. All in all, one did better to eat in the buffet restaurant and design one’s own specialty dishes. 5. The waiters were all hardworking and accommodating, courteous and professional. 6. The beach was always overcrowded and it was nearly impossible to find two chairs together. 7. The big pool offered no shade whatsoever. 8. The smaller adult pool was lovely with new well padded loungers. Iguanas lived by the pool, sometimes as many as 8. I found the first 2 charming “guests”, but more than that an utter annoyance. I could tell the iguanas were enjoying themselves, making love all day and resting in between. Another negative about this pool was how guests monopolized the chairs by parking towels on them at 7 am and not showing up until after lunch. The only way we could get a lounger was to come out at 7 am as well. We felt no guilt over this tactic because we actually used the loungers all day. 9. My biggest complaint about this resort is unequivocally about the vast number of smokers around the pool and in the lobby area. Since we in Canada (perhaps in big cities only) find smoking to be so passé and so dangerous really, I had a hard time with this imposition on my enjoyment of the resort. For this reason alone, I would never revisit this resort. 10. The gym had new equipment: 3 treadmills, 1 elliptical, 1 bicycle, one rowing machine, and various weights. It was never busy, so I could enjoy 2 hours every day of uninterrupted solitude and alone time. BELOW IS A REPORT ON WHAT HAPPENED TO US BECAUSE WE DID NOT KNOW AHEAD OF TIME OF THE DANGERS OF SALES PEOPLE DECEPTIONS: Immediately as we deplaned and entered the Cozumel Airport terminal and asked for a Transat rep, we were led to a booth where a man claimed to be part of the Transat team. He stressed the urgency of talking to him first, so we will know what the best and most economical way was to arrange tours, etc. Ten minutes into this presentation, we realized he had nothing to do with Transat and dashed outside to be sure we had not missed our ride to the resort. We barely made it. And by the way, everything this man told us was a lie. The first morning of our resort stay, we ventured into the lobby to ask about an upgrade, as you suggested. Since the lobby was populated by many desks and many people in uniform, we asked the first available person how much an upgrade would be. He led us to a desk and ensured us the person sitting behind it would be the best person to arrange this upgrade. This was where our nightmare began. The story is very long and extremely frustrating, but in a nutshell: we were guaranteed by 3 people who were called in as back-ups, that the upgrade would be $US 21/night, but we first needed to speak to one more person to secure this upgrade request. Before we realized it, we were sitting in a large room, being given a time-share sales pitch. We then made it clear that we were not interested in time share. After many, many more little incidents and protests, we were led back to the original “liar” to finally arrange the promised upgrade. Unfortunately, he said this upgrade is no longer $US 21, but $US 37. On and on it went, until the room was actually not available for another 4 nights, etc. etc. I finally realized the lies were getting bigger, and raised my voice to let them know that they were all lying and giving the resort a very bad name. In the end, we did have some marvellous luck that the reception manager Gabriela heard me and called us over to her desk. By way of compensation, she gave us the upgrade for free, although the room itself would only be available on Monday. She also commented that these sales people are not part of the resort, and that they lie continuously to everyone and anyone they trap for their sales pitch. As part of Gabriela’s generosity, we had free wifi in the lobby and in the upgraded Royal Club section, we had access to La Caretta, by far the best restaurant on the premises (where we ate often), we had access to the Royal Club pool. In fact, we had all the privileges of the Royal Club members. On Monday, we decided not to move rooms, as our room was fine and moving seemed at that point not worth all the effort. I felt sincere gratitude for Gabriela’s kind offer and to make up somewhat for the free upgrade, I rewarded the restaurant staff with generous tips when we ate at The Caretta. The waiters were attentive, pleasant, professional, and welcoming. Mosquitoes and other bugs: On our fight back, I noticed a few bumps on my arms and hands, but paid no attention. On Saturday morning when I woke up in my own bed, I counted 19 oversized bite marks—raised red bumps on my left arms, 7 on my right, several on my back, and the itchiness began. I am on Benadryl and confident the marks will disappear. I don’t know what caused them—mosquitoes or flies, but they are not pleasant to live with. The odd thing is that I did not feel the bites when they happened. So, all in all, although this resort has truly lovely and well maintained grounds, friendly and courteous staff, and is well priced, I would not recommend it to people who like pristine open spaced beaches, quiet pool areas, a smoke-free environment, and insect free spaces. I myself would not go back. As well, I would not go to Mexico because of the utter lack of professional work ethics of sales people.
