We had an amazing time at Bahia coba this Christmas with our two kids. The staff were outstanding, the food was great and grounds impeccable. Our kids enjoyed the water park and kids club and loved taking the golf carts throughout the resort. Needless to say they didn't want to leave. The only down side to our trip was the skin infection our daughters contracted.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: A great place to relax!
The resort was better than expected! We found the staff very friendly and easy to get along with. Although they did not speak much English we were able to get everything we needed sorted out. The grounds and vegetation are lovely; it's a very green, healthy landscape. The beach was peaceful though there were a lot of sand fleas. Bug repellent is a must. The food was good. Buffet had a lot of selection and nothing bothered my stomach. Wine was not great but other drinks were fairly good! The Medi[... read more]terranean restaurant was excellent. We had a suite by the beach - roomy with a nice view. The water pressure is low, but it's workable. Cleaning staff were great.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Amazing Resort! !
My husband and I just came back from the most amazing vacation at this resort! The hotel was amazing and our room was spacious and beautifully cleaned every day! The pool was stunning...3 big pools, a swim up bar and a jacuzzi pool! The staff around the resort and the beach were so friendly and very welcoming. They were all so efficient at their jobs! The beach was spectacular! We have been to many beaches but the one on this resort was definitely a 10/10!

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: New Years at Luxury Bahia Principe Runaway Bay
Stayed at the Luxury Bahia Principe Runaway Bay from December 26th, 2016 - January 2nd, 2017.
Check-In & Porter Services - No issues, friendly, proficient and up to our room within minutes.
Room - As expected, spacious, cleaned early and daily, mini-bar stocked daily, no shortage on bottled water, towels replenished twice a day...great job.
Property - Gorgeous. The landscaping staff is constantly manicuring the property. The beaches were beautiful, clean and enjoyable to walk.
Ba[... read more]r - The bar service was good, we never waited long for a drink however we are active tippers and became familiar with the bar staff. While the service was good we have two complaints regarding the bar service. One, the Luxury Bahia promotes that they have premium "top shelf" products. Finlandia, Absolute, Bombay and Smirnoff are not "top shelf" premium brands. It was nice to have access to specialty liqueurs for special coffees. Two, you cannot locate a single fresh lemon or lime on the resort. The majority of the time drinks were not garnished which you should expect at a self claimed "5-STAR" property. If you want lemon or lime for your drinks, do yourself a favor and find them outside of the resort or ask someone to purchase them for you (like we did with one of the bartenders.) Tip for the F&B Manager: If you can offer citrus on the buffets with the fruit, certainly you can source lemons and limes for the bar. This should be a standard at a "5-STAR" property.
Dinner Reservations -I was skeptical from reading other reviews how securing a la carte dinners would go. We arrived late in the day Monday so we went to secure our a la carte meals first thing Tuesday morning. The day that we were most interested in was for New Years Eve. There was no line up so we were able to sit down quickly however we were told instantly that there were no restaurants available and that the new schedule was released on Friday. When I asked if I had to wait until Friday to book for NYE we were told that we would have to book with another group for the NYE dinner and showed us where to do that. I was frustrated with the lack of a la carte availability however then that suddenly changed. Ten minutes later we had booked into 4 restaurants, including the one I had asked for originally. A $5.00 tip actually gained us a smile, this after the fact. We were told to come back on Friday to book for Sunday evening, which is what we did.
We discovered that NYE was going to take place at the Jasmin, the Luxury Bahia Adults-Only Buffet restaurant. We had our choice of times and booked for 9:00 pm. We asked multiple times over the course of the week what the menu would be for NYE and no one could tell us anything, other than it was Buffet and had a nice table set up. I will elaborate more on this later.
Restaurants - We ate at the Italian, Brazilian, and the Don Pablo a la carte restaurants. The Italian was mediocre at best, the Brazilian was neat experience, the Don Pablo was the best of the three. We enjoyed the Chateaubriand.
We ate Breakfast at the Jasmine everyday. The food for breakfast does not change. The fruit is not ripe and lacked flavor. My bf enjoyed the freshly made omelettes while I stuck mostly with the hard boiled eggs. The coffee, mimosas and service was very good.
We ate Lunch every day at the Beach Restaurant where they were smoking the Jerk Chicken. The rest of the meal was buffet and did not change at all. We only ate the Jerk and salad here. The service was good however you often have to wait for the chicken to be ready. We sat and waited over an hour one day to have it, not for a lack of chicken on the smoker, rather the fact that they were holding it back. Pre-cooked chicken doesn't take another hour to smoke up to be done. Tipping to get chicken shouldn't be an expectation either. Thankfully the taste makes up for the annoyance of the situation. Tip for the Hotel F&B Manager: If you know that the Jerk has a high demand, prepare for it to rank a higher customer satisfaction score.
New Years Eve - Our NYE reservation was hosted our of the Adults-Only Buffet, the Jasmine. Everyone was rushed in and then rushed out. The food did not differ much from what was offered the rest of the week with the exception of dried out lobster tail and perhaps some meat. My NYE dinner consisted of the same salad I ate all week, dried out lobster tail and deep fried mozzarella sticks. The desserts were the same, the drinks were the same, there was nothing special about this meal. Following dinner there was supposed to be a NYE gala out on the beach however rain took over and there was no communication on how plans for the evening had been altered. The lobby bar closed at 11:00 pm per their normal hours. If there was a "plan B" to account for weather this was never communicated. As a result, the rest of our evening was spent in our room. We were expected to dress up for a buffet dinner, which took less than an hour, and then spent the remainder without a plan. This was a tremendous disappointment considering the increased costs with being there for the holiday. Tip of the Hotel F&B Manager: It's NYE, let your guests eat where they want to. Post the menu's so that your guests know what to expect and can make alternative plans if what is being offered doesn't appeal to the over paying customer.
Bulter Service - What is this? Does this come standard if you are a guest staying on the Luxury side or as a guest are you paying additional fees for this service (outside of tipping). This was never introduced to us.
Gym - The gym is dated however it is functional and offers a selection of equipment, free weights and cardio machines. We didn't spend a lot of time here as it is hot and lacking air circulation (and quite frankly, we were on vacation).
In conclusion, our vacation was what we made of it. We enjoyed the sun while we could, the drinks were ok, the food was ok, the staff was amazing, we enjoyed our time together. Would we return? No. There are far too many other properties to explore and for the money spent, the value was not there. We would rate this property a 4 Star at best.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Beautiful Resort!
The grounds were absolutely beautiful and well maintained by a smiling, friendly and welcoming staff. Everyone we spoke with or interacted with was generous, willing to help or simply warm and friendly. The beach is beautiful and offers a unique opportunity to view fish at a reef just off shore in a safe and family friendly atmosphere.
The Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana does not fail to impress. This was our 3rd visit to this resort and we've come to appreciate the beautiful beach, manicured grounds and the friendliness of the staff. Hands down our favourite a la carte restaurant is the Japanese one. Tons of fun having our tasty food prepared in front of us. Our visit was a much needed break from work and school and allowed us to spend some amazing family time together over the winter break.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: fell short of expectations
I have stayed at less "Gran" resorts for a lot less money and been far more impressed. The situation of the resort, the grounds, the view from the rooms were all stunning. However, the condition of the rooms and the halls was considerably run-down. We had trouble with the safe, the tv and the sliding door to the balcony did not lock properly. We spent a considerable amount of time and frustration getting these problems dealt with. I did find the staff responded to my concerns professionally, I j[... read more]ust think that when you are spending thousands for two rooms (my husband and I had my elderly father with us) you shouldn't have to deal with these kinds of hassles.
I found the quality of the food and the selection great but the only time you got hot food was when you were lucky enough to be standing by when something was brought out of the kitchen. The servers varied widely in their abilities and also in their attitude. Some were lovely and really on top of things. Others, not so much.
All in all, we still had a lovely time but as I say, in my opinion, this resort is over-rated and over-priced.
The Esmeralda's location is extremely ideal - as it's close to the beach, pools, and Fantasia. The waves from the beach and current from the water is pretty rough - so my 5 & 3 year olds couldn't go in. We watched the water and I would step in a bit and let the waves hit us. Otherwise, they played in the sand. The pools were great for family and water time. The food was excellent - and what was outstanding and made the time so great was the service. I've read many reviews about resorts bei[... read more]ng understaffed or things being stolen etc. I kept watches and money out in plain site in the room and the people were extremely helpful. Overall, Punta Cana was great and I would have no hesitation in visiting the Esmeralda again. Lastly, our daughter had an ear infection and being able to see a doctor onsite was fantastic. The doctor was extremely helpful and we were able to get antibiotics etc. right away. Get the family medical insurance for sure.- especially if you have little ones. It's really easy to get an ear infection after a flight and a day in the water.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Poor Service. Go Somewhere Else.
Overall, my stay at the Grand Bahia Principe was less than I expected. Unfortunately due to heavy rainfall, my room had a leak coming from the hallway panels. I called the front desk for assistance. When someone came to my room to check the leak, the employee told me to call another service/facility. This did not solve the problem, nor the leak. I asked her if she could call the specific service/facility that would solve the leak as she knows the facilities best here. She then asked me to call t[... read more]he ice/mini bar service phone line. I did not understand how they could help to solve the leak. Asking her once again for her assistance, she called the specific service/facility and within thirty minutes, an employee arrived to my room and stopped the leak.
With this, throughout my stay, the phone in the room (20210) would work on and off as it would not have a dial tone or be able to connect any call to the front desk or to another room properly. I went to the front desk and explained this problem about the phone however no one came by to check the phone. The phone continued to not work properly throughout the week. The day before my departure, I went to the front desk and explained that the phone was not working properly. Due to this, I asked the front desk employee to schedule a time when the bell boy can pick up my luggage from my room. I explained that I notified the front desk about the phone a couple of days ago. I asked the employee to schedule the bell boy to come to my room for the following day at 9am as I was leaving at 10am. He wrote down my request and said that he would call/schedule the bell boy. The following day, I had my luggage packed and ready. At 9:30am, no one had come to pick up my luggage. I was disappointed as I took time in advance to ask for assistance but, I did not receive it. I rolled my luggage down the stairs and all the way to the front desk from villa 20. A shuttle driver told me that I could not bring my luggage on to the shuttle car. I asked him if he can tell me where I can call for a bell boy or if he can use his walkie talkie to call a car for me but he did not. So, I went by myself. I gave in my room keys and told the front desk employee, she then re-directed me to guest services. I then had to explain what happened again to the guest services' employee and asked to speak to the general manager about this matter.
The general manager met me at guest services. I had to explain for the third time that the phone did not work, thus I asked for front desk to call a bell boy for me in advance and that I waited thirty minutes for someone to help collect my luggage however, no one came by and I was late for my departure day. She re-instated that she would find out which employee made that "scheduled" appointment for me, however I was leaving the resort in less than one hour. I was very disappointed and with the general manager as she did not contact me about this problem or how she tried to solve the problem.
Thank you, however due to this, I will not be returning to the Grand Bahia Principe and to its' other resort chains and I have told others about the disservice that I have experienced.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Christmas at Bahia
Had a wonderful stay at Bahia Punta Cana over Christmas. My husband and I stayed there 10 years ago and we brought our 7 year old daughter on this trip. It has changed a lot in terms of more hotels, more restaurants, more pools, etc. However, we still found the same quality of service from wait staff, housekeeping, bartenders. My daughter loved the Scouts Club activities and the kids shows at night. This was our first time away for Christmas and we would definitely do it again. The Bahia d[... read more]ressed things up nicely on Christmas Eve and although it was a little busy, the gala dinner on Christmas Eve was amazing!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Perfect Loacation
This resort is huge, to big for us. We prefer a smaller resort. The location was great and was close to all of the excursions we went on, tulum, snorkeling, cenotes and dolphins. The food at the buffet was great, lots of variety even for our picky eaters.
My wife and I arrived Christmas day to join my brother and his family. The trip was really to celebrate my brothers 50th birthday on the 28th of December. This was the most beautiful resort in every way. Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience any of it. Our first night there I had a severe reaction to multiple mosquito bites all over my legs. I was prescribed antibiotics which helped. I spent most of our vacation in the room. I was feverish and had to avoid sun because it would only induce gr[... read more]eater swelling. I would leave the room to eat, that was it. Didn't get to walk the beach with my wife or make use of any of the beautiful pools. The people, the food, the resort were all great. I just wish we could have a do over. The last time We went to an all inclusive was ten years ago. I will definitely be recommending this amazing resort to everyone.ðŸ‘ðŸ»

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Disaster from the start
We arrived at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba on Dec. 24th around 12:00 noon. We had high hopes and expectations since so many good reviews posted on the website about the hotel. However, we were told at first that the room was not ready, the hotel staff told us to come back in one and a half hour later. So we got ourselves breakfast/lunch and went back to the front counter exactly one and a half hour later. We were told again the room was not ready, hotel staff again told us to come back in 45[... read more] min. So we decided to tour around the facility and went back in 45 min. Third time we were told again the room was not ready, the hotel staff told us to come back at 3:00 o'clock. At that point, we raised our voice and suddenly the room was available, however the room was not what we reserved for. We requested for two double beds with 2nd floor balcony. The hotel staff told us that in two days a room will be available. At that point, we clearly draw the line and said no substitution, asked the hotel to book another room available now not in two days. The hotel staff was rude and arrogant. There was no manager available to plead our case. So for anyone wishes to book this hotel, you should know there is no early check-in. Looking over our shoulder, we saw several other guests having the same issue. We fought and fought and finally got our room. After that experience we told ourselves never to come back again to this hotel. My two children have gone through the same ordeal. For your info, there is a VIP system, for those who has the VIP membership with the hotel, we hear that the treatment is very different. For the regular guests like us, the hotel will treat you like a dirt. So if you decided to book a five star hotel, please go else where. Unless you wish to pay extra money to buy into their VIP membership which is around $20,000 and up.
Only good beach in this big resort is the Akumal beach, if you have the blue Coba band around your wrist, the hotel will literally kick you out. The other two beaches are Coba and Tulum which are full of rocks and seaweed. If you wish to enjoy the beach, you should book with the Akumal hotel. If you have booked with Coba or Tulum, then you have no access to Akumal.
The suite washroom has no exhaust fan!!! There is no way this is a five star hotel.
The coffee tastes horrible.
From our experience, this is not a five star hotel.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Good Resort!
This was my second time back to Grand Bahia Principe San Juan and I was satisfied with my stay. Please see my review below on certain aspects.
Look & Feel
The resort is beautiful - I have always enjoyed the layout and the design. I found the room to be a little outdated, but I don't usually go on vacation to stay in my room! The room and resort always felt clean.
Beach
The beach is OK - there are wave breakers in the water that make it to look unappealing. I spent most of my time by the[... read more] pool, and went to the beach occasionally.
Food
The food is OK - not a plentiful variety to choose from, but your staple items are always there. The restaurants were good (specifically, the Mediterranean restaurant).
Entertainment
The evening entertainment is great! We would always attend the shows and would then follow to Pueblo Principle for some karaoke and the disco.
Hope this helps!

10 of 13 in our group were hit by diarrhea, none at the same time, up to a week apart.
Have been to Mexico more than a half dozen times, and this property two years ago, but this was a new experience.
The food was good but the group seemed to feel it was better two years ago.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Won't be back
The hotel was nice enough and the rooms were clean enough. The mini fridge was stocked with no issues. We arrived after 3pm and it still took hours to get a room. Then they gave us the wrong room and it was another long wait to get the correct one. Very poor English comprehension at the front desk. No money to exchange for a few days. Struggled to get more than 1 key for the room. Beach was infested with bugs and the water was disgusting. Looked like mud. Apparently there is huge run of[... read more]f from the mountains that the travel agent should have told us about. Dining room service was absolutely horrid. Went many meals without being served drinks. Having paid so much with it being Christmas time, I would have expected a lot better. For some reason, there were a lot of injured people and speaking with the other guests, many were extremely unhappy.

The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Beautiful resort!
I loved the service provided, all hotel personal are genuinely polite and carrying. Room was clean, grounds well maintained and beach well taken care of. Food was very good and diversified, snack bar amazing considering.
I have been travelling to the DR since 1985 and have never had such a bad experience. I arrived on the evening of December 19, 2016 and was there on my own for 10 days. I frequently travel alone so this was not an issue.
I checked in and paid the $4 per day safe fee and was then driven to my room. Upon entering, I will say that the room was adequate. The lights operate by inserting your room key into a mechanism by the entrance door, but the safe operates the same way. First problem, I was give[... read more]n 1 room key and it is pitch black so I can not operate both at once. I return to the front desk to ask for a second room key and have to argue with the clerk in order to obtain a second key. He finally gives me a second key.
In the morning I head to the beach only to find out that it is a 20 minute walk! The beach is overcrowded, you have about 6 inches on either side of your chair to move.
All is fine for the first few days, then on Christmas eve morning I wake up to a note under my door stating that since I did not make a dinner reservation I would not be able to have dinner at any of the restaurants that evening because it was a special menu! I head to the front desk and they confirm this. So, I decide to have a late lunch of sea bass at the pool side restaurant. The fish tasted very garlicy but I ate it because I knew I wouldn't eat again until the morning. Within 3 hours I was riddled with stomach cramps and severe diarrhea. I have never been so sick and by day 4 of this decided that I needed to speak to the Air Transat rep so they were aware of the situation. The rep, Gabrielle, said that I could not prove it was the food and I was probably hung over and that I needed medical proof! I was disgusted but went to the emergency clinic because I was very sick. I was immediately treated with intravenous drugs for severe dehydration and fever and was given 2 prescriptions for antibiotics to continue taking. That night was the worst night, now everything coming out of me was green!
The next morning I returned to speak to Gabrielle, I wanted a flight home that day, I felt I needed medical attention in Canada. He refused to speak to me, said that he was busy and that I should return at 11. I returned at 11 only to find out that it was now too late to catch the 1 pm flight. So, back to the medical clinic and another round of intravenous and more drugs.
Now, the food poisoning was not the only issue. I was confined to the pool area due to the close proximity to my room which I needed on a moments notice. I was on a diet of water and Gatorade to try and keep hydrated and the pool bar had a cold water dispenser. This dispenser had a short in it and when I went to get water was also treated with 120 volt shock! I guess it was better me than a child.
The final complaint of this resort...on one of my mad dashes to my room I found a maid using my bathroom!
I would not recommend this resort to anyone. The food, the service, the staff were all rude and unprofessional. This resort says they are a 5 star resort and I would be hesitant to give them 3 stars.
