The Sol Cayo Coco has so many positives that they out weigh the few small negatives. The most important things, like the beach, the staff or service, the food, the pool and gardens, comfortable rooms are all excellent. The small negatives are things like old furniture, or rough walkways. The hotel is in the best location in cayo coco, with access to 2 beautiful and different beaches. The pool and snack bar area (and outdoor buffet area) are unique because you can be sitting in them and still see[... read more] the ocean. This is unusual for most hotels. The smaller size of the hotel makes many of its features special and unique. If you want a beautiful and more quiet hotel then this one is for you. If you want to party with crowds of people, then you might want to choose a larger resort.

The Reserve at Paradisus Punta Cana: Great Anniversary
Have stayed at this hotel 5 times before but this was the first time at the Reserve.
Upgrade was certainly worth the extra $. Obviously we like the place since we have stayed there so many times-- good food, great staff and our bar runners on the beach

Hotel Camino del Mar: Some changes
This was our third visit to this resort.
Serving staff were great. Customer service staff not so much.
It took an hour to check in. We all wondered "were they surprised we were here?" Then we went to the snack bar to get something to eat. One staff to serve everyone, and the cook could only cook one sandwich at a time. A sad introduction to the resort, and to Cuba.
We didn't have hot water or air conditioning. We were told "tomorrow". Our Transat rep told us to change rooms. It took us 4 hours t[... read more]o change rooms. This was frustrating. Other issues were that our terrace door did not lock. The food was a disappointment. Breakfast was good, lunch was OK, but by the time we got to dinner, it was difficult to find something at all appealing.
The beach was no longer "raked", which meant it was difficult to walk along the beach. A lot of seaweed.
However, it is still Cuba. The sky is blue, the palm trees are beautiful, the ocean is amazing, and the pool is wonderful.
The servers were friendly, and helpful. The gardens are lovely.

Sol Cayo Coco: loved it!
It was our 7th time at this resort so we know what to expect. The staff are amazing as usual! They make you feel right at home! There are always a few hiccups: one being the lack of toilet paper in the washrooms but I came prepared! The beaches are great, the food is average but always something for everyone. Would go again in a heartbeat!

Melia Las Dunas: Destination Wedding
We stayed at the resort for a family wedding the last week of February. As a group we had a lot of fun so overall we overlooked a few of the issues we encountered. Firstly, I must say the grounds and main lobby were kept up very nicely. Our check in was organized and prompt. We arrived late at night. Rooms were basic, but clean and the beds were comfortable. The air conditioning unit in our room was old, noisy, and cold and you were not able to adjust the settings on the fan or temperature as th[... read more]ey weren't working…definitely need to be replaced. Maid service was daily, but towels were not always changed daily unless you asked (no face cloths so bring your own). Fridge was not restocked unless you were in the room to answer the door so if you happen to be in the room or see the delivery truck for water/beer/pop make sure you get enough to last more than one day. A good tip is in order if you want good service.
We found the breakfast buffet to be lacking in variety. The food was not very hot at times. Freshly made omelets were the best. Service was lacking at the tables if you wanted coffee and juice. There seemed to be a shortage of staff in this area and sometimes we were ignored for quite a while. Also note that there are never any teaspoons to eat your yogurt with or stir your coffee. You need to ask for a spoon and then will be given a tablespoon if you're lucky. We found the breakfast at the Beer Garden to be the best and usually went there most days. You order fresh from the menu (limited) and they make great cappuccino's. Great cappuccino's at the lobby bar all the time, as well.
The a la carte restaurants were the best. We tried Romantico, Italian, and Seafood. We enjoyed Romantico the most with live music and great service (for adults only though).
Most evenings we ended up in the main lobby after dinner for a cappuccino and live entertainment (salsa lessons and live bands). It was quite popular and entertaining.
For anyone planning a wedding here. We had a fun day. The weather was perfect and the wedding took place at the gazebo by the beach. Please note ladies that you can't wear high heels when walking out to the gazebo as it's on a board walk with wooden slats so none of us could wear the shoes we brought for the wedding and had to change into flats or wedges for this part of the day. After the ceremony the resort shuttle buses picked us up and took the group back to a separate area of the the main lobby where they served hors d'oeuvres and then we were shuttled to the other side of the resort for the wedding dinner. The wedding meal was okay, but not great (don't have the steak as no one in our party ate it as it was very tough), but I think they tried their best to make it nice. After the meal we were shuttled back to the main lobby again for dancing and a disc jockey in the Sports Bar.
The week we stayed the weather wasn't the greatest and the winds prevented you from being on the beach most days. As was mentioned in other reviews, the beach has eroded away quite a bit on the section in front of this resort. It was quite narrow at certain points and most of the lounge chairs are situated higher up on the dunes under the cabanas. We still enjoyed the beach though when weather permitted.
The pool area was well maintained and quiet on the adult side, but as with other resorts, you need to be up early (7 am) to reserve your spot or the lounge chairs are all taken. We were not able to get beach towels for the first two days as there were none available. When we finally got towels we kept them for the rest of the week in case we had the same problem again. The restaurant in the pool area is great for lunch if you want a sandwich or pizza.
Overall, our stay was good and we had fun because we were with a group. Would I return to this resort, probably not. This was our second time to Cuba and the first time to Cayo Santa Maria. I think we will try another resort next time if returning to Cuba.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Amazing beach!
Third time at this hotel. The beach is stunning, ideal for families with children, the water is shallow and crystal clear, a true paradise .Everything is within walking distance, if you will forget something in your room you do not have to wait for the golf cart to take you there like in other huge resorts. Every night around 8 PM there are some Cuban singers playing, we absolutely loved Ismael

Food is good for Cuban standards, you will always find something to eat .We are going to Cuba for the beach and the people, for the good coffee and the music. I would go back
3rd time to this amazing resort and once again we were not disappointed. Staff are amazingly friendly and always ready to assist you in any way. Grounds are exceptionally clean. Food is amazing with many options to choose from. Rooms are spacious with all the amenities one would expect from a true 5 star resort.

Melia Las Americas: Things have slipped.
This is our third year in a row at this resort. The hotel grounds, facilities, etc. are constantly being updated. The General Manager is very visible. The staff are friendly. However, there was no recognition at reception that we were returning guests, nor that we were celebrating our anniversary. Further, the food quality had deteriorated from previous visits and the house wine has become undrinkable.

Hotel Vigia: Good resort
My first time at this resort, overall pretty good, but needs some improvement on managing the restaurant at lunch/dinner peak times. Very good food with lots of options. Public areas clean and well maintained. Room was nice. We were first offered a brand new renovated room with oceanview, unfortunately we couldn't stay there because the door wasn't locking; a guy tried to fix it, but we decided to change the room since the safe wasn't working either, so we were moved to another room without prob[... read more]lems. The balcony doors don't have screens, so you can't keep the door open to get the fresh breeze. During our stay the wind was blowing like crazy, but it didn't bother us - kept bugs away so it's first time I came from Cuba without mosquito bites :) Kids were well looked after and entertained by the friendly entertainment crew.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Excellent trip
Just back from our second time staying at this hotel. Many improvements from last year. The staff are so friendly and attentive, the entertainment was wonderful, the room was always clean and well stocked! The food is good - could always find something we liked to eat and we particularly loved the pizza at the pool bar which is open all the time! This hotel is great value for the money

Melia Jardines del Rey: 1st and last trip to Cayo Coco
My husband and I just returned from Cayo Coco Cuba. We stayed at the Melia Jardines Del Rey. Our stay at the resort was...I guess you could say boring. Let me explain the pros and cons of our trip.
As this was our first trip away from the kids and Canada we don't have anything to compare it to. So I would say it is an unbiased rating.
Pros..The resort itself is beautiful, very well maintained. Nicely laid out.
The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. Lots of hot water and pressure.
The groun[... read more]ds staff do an amazing job at keeping up with the gardens and cleanliness of the resort.
The beach in our opinion was fantastic, we walked about 5 miles everyday.
And wow... is all I can day about the pools. Lots of room, and loungers.
No mosquitos at all, but bring the repellent just in case. That way you won't need it.
And now for the Cons.. The resort is very large so there is tons of walking.
It is very dark and potentially dangerous at night and needs more lighting. A guest got off the bus upon arrival and fell into an unused water fountain and broke her leg. You will find these water fountains throughout the resort and it's unfortunate that they do not use them. So the water that is in them is standing water.
The food was plentiful but very bland. We only used 1 of the 4 a la cartes we got. Wish we hadn't paid extra for them. Bana Japanese Restaurant was pleasant. The buffet has something for everyone.
Activities were almost non existent. A little excerise at the pool in the morning and well.. that's about it. We were so bored we pretty much napped everyday just to waste some time.
We booked an excursion for the Catamaran and snorkeling day but it was canceled due to high winds. No fault of the resort!
While the weather was warm, it was sooo windy all the time all the water excursions were cancelled.
We also went on the Classic American Car trip into the city of Moron. It was the most depressing day of my life. The city is very dirty and poor. Wild sick dogs everywhere pooping on the sidewalks and streets, mixed with horse poop and garbage made for a very unpleasant smell. Our driver spoke no english so there wasn't much to see as he didn't know where to take us. We couldn't get outta there fast enough.
You don't really appreciate what we have here in Canada until you see how the people of Cuba live.
So to some it all up, while the resort was beautiful it definetly didn't keep us entertained enough to go back. I booked this trip back in September and feel that we paid WAY to much for what was offered. As this was our first trip away we learned alot from other seasoned travelers.
Would we recommend this resort. Yes..but if you are looking for activities bring lots of money cause there are only the excursions to do.

Melia Las Americas: Love the Resort especially the Golf
Totally met our expectations. Our group of 8 guys enjoyed the very challenging course as the winds and multiple tee boxes made this course play differently for our 8 rounds in 7 days. Fairways and greens and rough were well maintained while you had to be a good sand player to overcome the rough sand traps. Service is exceptional at all amenities. Buffet had many varieties of food to more than satisfy. Specialty dining is good for Cuban standards, but acceptable for international standards.....th[... read more]ey do well with what they have (bring your own Wasabi and you'll gain lots of friends). The international restaurant Arcade was the ultimate, fine dining, 5 piece ensemble white glove service, exquisite plating and a very romantic setting to take your love one!
Beer is good throughout, alcohol basics are good but the base wine is Very marginal for anyone who enjoys good wines. Suggest you grab a couple of $10 bottles at Duty Free at home. Tips (as r trinkets from home)for staff are much appreciated and well earned. Beach and pools were nice with adequate loungers with shade umbrellas for all without hoarding. Lots of organized beach activity if desired. Water was very rough (MARCH) every day (no snorkelling) and closed beach for 3 days w jellyfish. Trip into Varadero was easy and fun by old US style taxi.,cheap in a group. Only wish we did Havana.
Currency exchange can be done at hotel as rate is similar whether at airport bank or hotel.
Overall I would rate this as 4.0 -4.5 international stars and consider a revisit with my wife.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Good time was had by all
My family of four spend 7 days at this nice resort on our March Break. Despite the 1,000+ room facility being almost full, we never felt crowded and there was always space to move about and relax. The staff were top notch. Friendly and hard working. The beach was beautiful, but you need water shoes as there is coral and rock in the water for about 20 meters out. After that it's soft white sand with fantastic swimming. Rooms were new and well kept (the resort opened in 2015) but the beds were a b[... read more]it hard. Grounds are nice, but as this is a new resort, the vegetation is not mature so nothing is big and lush yet. Entertainment was probably the best part. Something new and exceptional every night. Such great musicians! The lobby and theatre areas are the main gathering points and there's tons of room and it's very clean and comfortable. There was a slight breeze all week, so we barely saw a mosquito, but we heard this can sometimes be an issue. The food was fine. This is Cuba, so you don't go for the food, but I would say as far as Cuba resort food goes, this resort is definitely on the upper scale as we all thought it was fine. ((Pro tip: bring 220v plug adapters. You could charge your USB devises on the TV, but only works when the TV is on. This was a constant battle for us making sure all cameras and phones got charged every night.))

Hotel Vigia: Disappointing
Staff was short through out the resort, the housekeeping was slow getting done, always short on towels, the shower drain was slow causing an odour to come up the sink drain, then the seal leaked around the toilet causing water on the floor, it wasn't,t corrected other than to have them wipe the floor up, only to have it happen again.
