Barcelo Maya Colonial: Third visit to Barcelo Maya Colonial
This was our third time staying here and we continue to enjoy everything about the resort. The rooms are clean and spacious. There are so many chairs on the beach and around the pools to choose from. The beaches are very clean and beautiful to walk along.
We enjoyed all of the restaurants also. We had a premium package so we had dinner every night for 2 weeks in all of the restaurants. The restaurants in the Palace are excellent also. It is worth paying extra for them. We love the French [... read more]Bistro the most. A very elegant atmosphere.
We enjoyed using the spa and gym as they were both well equipped and spacious.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Wonderful resort = Fabulous Vacation!
Absolutely fabulous vacation! Resort was wonderful. Room was fabulous with Jacuzzi and private balcony. Grounds, rooms and facility were very clean. Food was delicious - never had a bad meal and the drinks were never ending! Entertainment was great. Getting around was easy on the tram system. Can't say enough about the beach - always able to find a chair, we were able to swim with fish and snorkel within our buoyed off section and the staff worked hard at keeping the beach clear of seaweed. [... read more]There were a few rocks but that is expected in Mexico. Although a little long of a drive from the airport, but it was worth the 75 minute drive once you got there! We will definitely be back!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Excellent vacation
This was our second stay at this resort. We chose to go back because of the amenities - lots of pools, great beach, great restaurant choices and wonderful food selection/quality. This stay, we experienced weather that was much more humid than our previous stay - as a result, the rooms smelled a bit musty and everything (clothes, towels, bed linen) always felt damp. This did not hinder our vacation at all - we just happened to notice it.
2 things to consider if booking this resort - 1) week[... read more]end concerts: the resort occasionally hosts concerts; these run Thurs-Sun (from what we could tell) and can be found on their website or through a Google search; the hotel fills up with concert goers around the weekend and you can hear the concerts quite clearly in your room well past midnight; our stay straddled 2 such concerts; it did not hinder our enjoyment of the resort at all, but our last night had rowdy hotel guests/concert goers staying in the room below us who partied loudly til the wee hours of the morning; when selecting dates if you think that might affect your vacation, try selecting alternate dates; 2) specialty dining: the restaurant selection is good and the food is great; their system for booking and accommodating guests is somewhat frustrating - we booked the restaurants we wanted on the first day we arrived and were given some very late (8:30, 9:30) dining times; what is frustrating about that is when we presented to the restaurants, even at our other earlier times (6:30, 7:00) the restaurants were half empty and remained that way during our meals; we would have loved some earlier times, and it seems as though we could have been accommodated (space wise) but for some reason, they only book their restaurants to half capacity (it was like this our previous stay as well); again, it did not hinder our enjoyment, it was something that we just had to work around.
All in all, we would very much like to stay here again - it is a great vacation destination for our group and what we look for in a vacation.
The main reason we chose this resort was the promise is 12 alacart restaurants. Within moments of checking in we went to the consierg to make dinner reservations. Four of our most desirable choices were completely unavailable. Most of the remaining choices were only available at 9:30 pm. We felt completely mislead by advertising.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Amazing as always
The grounds were great and service as always. Maid service was lacking this year and replenishment of items to our room and we are not difficult people just nice to have a coffee in the morning, Akumel is where we tend to spend all our time as it's not so quiet. Food as always is very nice and they are so attentive.
We always get the penthouse suite for the tub but it didn't work well the jets didn't so we just didn't use it as much as we have in the pass. All in all another great vacation. Wi[... read more]ll be back next year but maybe to Akumel.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Simply beautiful!
This is a beautiful grand resort. Family friendly but also lots of space for adults to truly enjoy a relaxing vacation away from the chaos. The grounds were impressive, rooms comfortable and clean and the staff (everywhere) welcoming and friendly. Air Transat staff were fantastic from the beginning to the end.

Paradisus Playa Del Carmen Roulette: Awesome vacation!
Our week away at the Paradisus Playa del Carmen was great. I would not book another Roulette vacation not knowing which resort we would end up at. Personally in my opinion it was determined we were staying on the family side right away. There were many a children & were not a disruption at all but would have preferred the ADULT side. A few negatives upon arriving we did not get requested 2nd floor or higher, ended up on the ground floor, king size bed had 2 doubles & we could not check in any so[... read more]oner than 3pm. We were the only 2 guests checking in at that time. Other than these issues and they did not tuin our holiday, we had a great trip. The food at all the ala cartes were top notch. The food & the drinks at the grill on the beach were yummy also. The beach along this stretch is not the best having lots of seaweed this year which is a problem in the Caribbean. The staff at the resort did their best daily to clean up the seaweed.
All in all, we enjoyed our holiday but not long enough. This resort comes highly recommemded as well as flying out of Hamilton Airport. Air Transat flight was perfect having NO delays both ways.
Cheers 🌴😊

Riu Yucatan: Good resort
Nice vacation at Riu Yucatan. Very close to Playa Del Carmen and other activities. Nice food but a bit crowdy and 'cafeteria like' eating areas. Comfortable and clean room. Very nice beach. We went there in February and the water was cold.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Fantastic resort
My husband and I stayed at Ocean Coral and Turquesa for 5 nights in a privilege suite. This is an excellent resort and we greatly enjoyed our stay there. The beach at the resort was beautiful. Our privilege suite was lovely and clean and, most importantly to me, the king size bed was extremely comfortable. There was a jacuzzi tub on our patio too. Another highlight of this resort is the food - the quality of the food is good and there are many options/restaurants to choose from. The only restaur[... read more]ant that i tried that i didn't enjoy was the mexican one oddly enough, which is a shame since i love mexican food and was in mexico. Fortunately you can get good guacomola and tortilla chips at the dining hall. While i enjoyed all the other restaurants there, the highlight for me was the japanese place where the chefs cook in front of you and entertain. Also with the privilege package you get access to a lovely lounge with tasty apps. If you like cats or iguanas this is also the place for you are as they are in abundance at this resort. The wifi at the resort is free and good. There are 3 pools at this resort, one for privilege only guests with a relaxation vibe, one party vibe pool with music and a pool bar, and another pool for family - so this resort seems to have a little something for everyone. For us, we were looking for a romantic, classy place with a relaxing atmosphere and OCT privilege suite fit the bill. Also as a privilege guest you get free access to the hydrotherapy spa at the resort, which has showers, steam room, big sauna, cool water pool with jets and hot tub. Very nice spa facilities except for the change room which is very small, not much privacy and the showers are messed up. You can't open the shower doors very much since they bang into the shower head. I was only able to squeeze into the tiny crack because i am a small build and it was still a tight squeeze. The gym is pretty small and dismal, but it is better than nothing and everything else at this resort is so on point. Loved this place and would go back!!

Paradisus Playa del Carmen: 5 Star Hospitality
We had a fantastic holiday here. The staff was so friendly from the cleaners to the dance instructors. We felt pampered all week.
The restaurants were great...especially the civiche at the Peruvian restaurant. The music was fabulous... lots of live entertainment.
The beach suffered from high winds and seaweed but I’m sure we will have better luck next time.
Only issue all week was the very long wait for our shuttle to the hotel.
My daughter had tears on the plane home...sign of [... read more]an amazing vacation.

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Better than Expected
This Resort will not disappoint! It's Very large and there's something to do for everyone. Loud party pool. Quiet pool, large beach. Always lots of chairs/spots to choose from. There are many great restaurants to choose from and the majority don't need a reservation. That was very convenient. We had a Romantic Villa suite with an outdoor shower which was amazing. I would totally recommend! The only negative part for us was the buffet. The food wasn't hot enough and the bacon in the AM was never[... read more] cooked enough. Catalonia Yucatan: Great time at the Catalonia Yucatan
Just back from a week at the Catalonia Yucatan and had a great time. The food was very good, especially the a la cartes - we went to the Steakhouse, the Mexican, the Japanese and the Italian. The buffets were also good.
The beach was okay, although you can't go for a very long walk, and the many pools were excellent.
Our room was great. We had a few issues - a toilet that wouldn't flush and water dripping out of a light fixture - but they were fixed very quickly.
The best thing about the p[... read more]lace was the staff. They were all friendly, helpful and hard-working.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: I would go back again in a heartbeat!
The grounds are lovely. The beach wonderful. The pools amazing. Sergio at the one pool doing pool aerobics is awesome. I think he draws the biggest crowds!
The food at the buffets is plentiful. I took a video walking and recording all the food at a breakfast on the buffet. It's just under 5 minutes long! The fruit looks amazing (I can't eat it sadly), the breads and pastries looked good (again, sadly...not for me). They have pretty much everything you could want.
I am on a very spe[... read more]cialized diet and so I had a bit of difficulty eating the same things everyday for breakfast (eggs and bacon). The restaurants in the evenings I had more success with finding more variety of what I could eat. I was not thrilled with every restaurant we tried but that was mostly due to my restricted diet. My sister seemed very happy with it all. The rating I gave for food is only what it is as I did not try much due to my restrictions. It looked good...but I think at some times some of it was a bit dried out on the buffets.
The rooms were spacious and I loved that I could sit on the balcony. The pools right outside the buildings. The buildings having the open concept was very neat. There seemed to be a LOT of walking to get around the buildings to the lobbies. I thought this was great (the buildings are big and the property seems massive) as it offset the time I sat on my butt poolside and the calories of the food I ate. The entire property was beautiful.
There seemed to be a lot of smaller maintenance activities going on. Replacing pool tiles, repainting marking on streets and sidewalks, removing what I am guessing were cracked ceramic tiles on the walkways.....but I thought this was great as well. Nothing was inconveniencing anyone as none were massive jobs that shut anything down. It shows they take good care of the property replacing/fixing things as they need it, not waiting for things to look worn and old.
It took 3 days to get a extra blanket for my bed. Front desk referred to housekeeping. Either they didn't answer the phone or when they did they said they would send one but did not. On the third day I used my translation app on my cell and requested one...handed it to the room maid. A few hours later...ta-da!! I'm always cold and so needed the extra blanket. You can control to a degree the temperature in the room but when one likes it cool and one likes it warm....a blanket comes in handy.
I did not come across many staff who were not helpful. The Grills....around the pools....the staff there did not look like they particularly wanted to be there and were not helpful. But everywhere else....enthusiastic staff and great service.

Riu Playacar: Beautiful beach
This was a nice hotel with a gorgeous beach. We loved that the palm trees were the shade. The customer service was really good. We found that there was not enough variety with the restaurants. It would have been nice to be able to go to the other resorts for dinner. As a family food is really important to us and we are not really buffet fans. The rooms were clean the beds were uncomfortable and I know what people mean when they talk about the rooms smelling musty. We moved to a new room day two [... read more]and it was fine. The pop show we saw on our last night was really good. I would recommend a daily Calendar of activities given out under your door. We have had this at the other places we have stayed and it was handy as we felt we didn’t really know what was happening activity wise. We travelled with two 19 year olds and two 15 year olds and found the resort very safe. Overall it was nice just not amazing.

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Vanlentines week at the Valentin Imperial Maya
My Wife and I have been to allot of resorts in the Carib. and this one ranks one of the best. The grounds are very luxurious and spacious. Not once did we feel crowded or felt like the staff didn't have the time to give us that individual attention when we required it. The property has the feel of a grandiose Mexican/Spanish private plantation with peacefulness and solitude that makes you feel relaxed from the moment you first arrive to the time the Bellmen puts your luggage in the limo for the [... read more]ride to the airport. The beach area was well cared for, the seaweed and any debris was cleared everyday, there were plenty of lounge chairs and cabanas to go around. We opted for the privilege package that provided us with our own personalized Cabana as well as many other amenities. It was well worth the few extra $, great value. The food was very good, and we had a large variety of ethnicity to choose from, in fact it was so good I made a glutton of myself and had to fast for a full day once I got home just to feel hungry again. I would like to give a big shout out to the concierge staff, especially Jerrod, Francisco & Mauricio. You all made us feel very special and we would like to thank you for that.
The Valentin Imperial Maya was recommended to us by a close friend and we have already recommended it to other friends. We cant speak about the excursions that the resort offers, we only went there for solitude and beach therapy, we found both. Thank you to all the staff there.

El Dorado Royale: Think twice
Eldorado Royale
The hotel catered to their members only and provided second rate services to those who did not join. The Japenese restaurant was not considered one of thier best restaurants but it was exemplary, the food and staff amazing! The 2 restaurants that needed reservations to go to were simply ok,not the best and really pushed an upsell for thier wines and tequilas.
There was only one restaurant open for breakfast at the Royale from Monday to Thursday which made it hard to get in fo[... read more]r breakfast, and even harder to time it when there was food in the buffet. Very difficult to get decent coffee at any time unless you paid for
Starbucks. The main pool had limited seating and it was hard to reserve seats unless you paid $200 per day for a Bali Bed. The beach was rocky and despite the workers working extremely hard to remove the extensive seaweed it was always dirty. The beach was definitely not swimmer friendly.
The entertainment was great! The shows were amazing and Mexican night was one of the best! Jojos bar had late night dancing which
Was extremely fun! But they always ran
Out of grey goose vodka by 6 pm
And substituted it with various low level vodkas. If you decide on this resort make sure you ask for an Ocean Front room? Otherwise you are stuck in the back of the resort. All
In all I would rate this place at a 3.5. The staff I would rate at a 5!
