Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Great Resort

The elegance rep, Mary, was an enormous asset and the extra fee for elegance was well worth it. The food was very good - lots of selection - and the Japanese restaurant was wonderful. The service, especially at the pool, was very quick and extremely polite. The rooms were kept immaculate and the bar fridge was filled every day. Overall, an awesome trip!

Melia Las Dunas: Mainly good, but not my personal cup of tea

This was our second stay at Melia Las Dunas and, in all honesty, I don't really have any major complaints. If you've stayed at resorts in Cuba before, then you know the drill re: keeping your food expectations moderate -- though I have to say that the Romantico a la carte quite possibly provided my husband and I with the best a la carte food we've ever had when visiting a resort in Cuba. Don't underestimate the gravity of that statement :) The grounds, the amenities (lobbies etc.) and rooms were very well-tended and comfortable and, of course,you can't go wrong with the beaches on Cayo Santa Maria. So why am I sounding kind of luke-warm about the whole thing?? Well, I guess I'm just an old lady (in my 50's) but I think I'm getting to the point where I like my resorts just a bit smaller, a bit quieter, and a bit more personal. Melia Las Dunas is by no means "mammoth" (if you 've ever, say, been at a Mayan Bahia resort, for instance) -- but it was still a bit too busy for me. The number of guests mean that most staff simply can't give that "personal touch" even though we DID have some staff who went above and beyond and remembered us from day to day (Hurray for Donna in the Lobby bar!). Having said that -- if you're younger than we are -- or younger at heart than we are -- or not quite so tired and in need of simple boring sitting in peace and quiet -- then you'll love Las Dunas. Clients there are a bit on the younger side and there is a lot of good entertainment -- a lot of vibrancy -- that I think appeals to the under 40 set. Don't get me wrong, though. If our one week in February wasn't my one and only week away from an otherwise truly hectic life, I'd probably be really up for the action that Las Dunas provides. It's a very good all-round resort and I have no complaints about it -- I just like my resorts a little "sleepier".

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Very good resort

Beautiful gardens. Polite,helpful and considerate staff. Good variety of dishes at all meals. Rooms could use a coat of paint. Spa pool could use a good scrubbing as well as some chairs in the dining room.

Melia Buenavista: Taste of Paradise

This resort is the ultimate getaway if you're looking for rest and relaxation. We stayed for a week in mid February 2015 and got exactly what we were looking for: a small, quiet resort with beautiful beaches and accommodating and attentive staff. I've done a lot of traveling throughout the caribbean, mostly to the islands, and the staff at the Melia Buenavista were by far the friendliest that I've ever encountered. The resort itself was stunning, with three beautiful beaches and an abundance of available loungers. Our room was exactly as the website's pictures had depicted it, the perfect combination of modern and cozy, and the outdoor shower was one of our favourite features. Even on colder days, it was a nice way to feel a little more connected to nature while experiencing 5 star comfort. Even though we purposely sought out a smaller resort, there was still so much for us to do. We visited the Los Dunas market, the two sister resorts (which were nice, but far too large and commercialized for our liking... we couldn't wait to get home to Buenavista), as well as took advantage of the excursions made available to us by our Nexus representative; our trip to Trinidad being one of the highlights of our vacation. Overall, our stay at the Melia Buenavista was a wonderful and memorable experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a little bit of luxury and a break from their regular day-to-day.

Memories Paraiso: Very Disappointed

Beach and pools were excellent but: very little selection for dining and poorly presented. They were always out of plates and cutlery. Most people survived on hot dogs and fries and pasta. Meat was very tough. Rooms in poor repair.

Resonance Blu Santa Maria: Much better with the new management

3 years ago I would have given this place (then the Husa) maybe 2 stars. The new management team has done wonders...Now I give it 4 stars to 4 1/2 stars. We even had lobster in the buffet one night, never even went to an a la carte.

Melia Las Dunas: Pretty good resort, 3 * rooms 4* facilties

Air Canada flight from Halifax, excellent, sail thru customs and on the bus. About 30 of us arrive at the front desk and waited an hour, so slow, someone complained about something and the entire process stopped, where are the other front desk workers? Same thing the next day, we stood in front of two guys for 15 minutes and were ignored! Holy Cow, I've never been ignored at a front desk, we walked away, came back to be ignored again. Anyways, the room is a rundown 3 star with maintenance issues, 5 flushes, sink leaks, the stopper in the tub won't pop open, pressure after 10 am poor the typical 3 star stuff. The facilities are 4 to 5 star, food is good, beer garden and Charcoal grill is excellent and I'd return just for that. Pizza restrurant is not great, they need a new rescipe for the tomato sauce. Buffets are huge! Pannini presses, 3 egg stations, blue cheese. Supper is really quite good, 4 star. 3 places serve sit down breakfast, 2 snack bars at the pools and beer garden. Beach is excellent, you cannot walk from one end to the other, just too far. I'd go back in April-May when the water is calm and warm tho. Adult pool is quiet until 3 pm then comes to life with football, music and drinking activities. We did a Havana trip $250 CND, Flight, bus, meal, English tour guide, wow! Was a long day 6 am to 11pm but worth the effort. Don't go Monday, all museums are closed. This really was a highlight of our 15 Cuban trips and would highly recommend it. Went to the 2 shopping towns, it's a nice break but nothing special. Saw this rock band with Dany Fernandez on guitar. He must be a son of Carlos Santana and Jimi Hendricks, unfriggingbelieveable. If anyone has a video of his performance please send it to me and I'll post it on you tube, he is a superstar in waiting. I'd return to the resort just to see Dany again and see if I can walk the entire length of the beach.

Resonance Blu Santa Maria: Had an Amazing Time!!!

Had such a great time, would for sure go back to this resort, all the staff was so friendly and lots of entertainment if you wanted it. Most beautiful beaches. Pools were nice and clean and rooms were cleaned everyday and the trip to the airport was long but lots to see, so the time flew fast!

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Wonderful family vacation!

This is our 3rd time visiting this resort as a family. The beach is wonderful, and the kids waterpark and kids club is fantastic. The staff are very energetic and great with the kids. The lush green grounds are beautiful, very well maintained and extensive. The rooms are also very nice compared with other places we've stayed in, in the Carribean. I would highly recommend this resort for families looking to get a good balance of beach/pool, with great service/food in Cuba.

Resonance Blu Santa Maria: Great resort, with a lot of positive points

Great staff, friendly and welcoming. Rooms are clean, however some equipment is in need of replacement. Towels need a lot to be desired. the public washrooms in front lobby, and near grill restaurants are in bad shape. The staff don't have the proper cleaning tools to do a good job. The bed linens were not clean either.!!

Resonance Blu Santa Maria: Nice Break

Haven't been to Cuba for 30 years so not much to compare against. There were some issues; no towel exchange, many mosquitoes in the room and some common areas but all in all the staff were friendly, the drinks were flowing, the weather was hot. Jose the GM was extremely friendly, very hard working, acknowledged and apologetic for the shortcomings and promised to improve.

Great resort! Entertainment was amazing and the beach was beautiful. Very nice people. The food was good but very repetitive and not that many options in the snack bar. All in all this was a great experience.

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Most Relaxing Trip Ever

My husband and I had a great time at Eurostars. The corner suite we had was beautiful, big double balcony looking out onto the most beautiful blue ocean. The beach and pools were perfect for us. All the staff were very friendly and took good care of us at the restaurants and in our building. We enjoyed trying all the different choices of food. The pig roast was delicious! There was always lots of entertainment going on. Animation staff at the pools and beach. Lots of premium brands of liquor available at the bars and they were not watered down at all. Best of all, the weather cooperated for the whole week!

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful beaches

This was our fourth time visiting this resort. The staff are fabulous, and the beaches are wonderful. The food is good with lots of variety. The grounds and buildings are in decent repair. We have stayed in building number 7 and 8 and our only complaint is the lack of water pressure (hot) in our building. We'll definitely go back again.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: good resort

We stayed at Iberostar Ensenachos from Feb 20 to Feb 27 2015. the hotel listed as a 5 star hotel it is not realy a 5 star but a 3.5 star. Grounds are very nice, beaches are the best in Cuba, the services needs major improvement and the food was ok.

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing Trip!

Before we left for Melias Las Dunas, I looked at all of the reviews and decided that this was the place to go! Had a couple of negative reviews before we arrived but tried to keep it positive. We arrived and found that the grounds were kept beautifully, the rooms were quite nice and the food was much better than I had hoped for. There are so many options for foods - pizza restaurants at both of the large pools offering sandwiches as well. We slept in on more than one occasion and decided to eat  [... read more]at the 24/7 (all day breakfast) because we had missed the buffet. The calamari is very good there as well! We usually went to the adult beach (far right) but when we wanted entertainment ventured to the middle beach. There are bars at each of the beaches but the middle beach has a grill as well for sandwiches. There is usually a line up so we walked up to the 24/7 or the outdoor grills at the end of the boardwalk (2 minute walk) to get food while on the beach. The outdoor grills open at 12:00 p.m. and are amazing - grilled seafood/meat/veggies, etc. There are so many options for food, it would take you a week to figure this out as well, there are the 3 Al La Carte restaurants - seafood, Italian and Oriental were the ones we went to and were not disappointed! The beaches are absolutely beautiful! I give this resort a 4+ star!!! Entertainment was awesome! The aquatica show was amazing - they had Cuban bands playing most nights in the lobby area as well as piano bar in the early afternoon. Our family had an amazing time and will most definitely go back!!! By the way, I walked the beach every morning to check out the other hotels in the same category and they cannot hold a candle to Melias Las Dunas - either for the food or the grounds! Thank you to the staff of Melias for making our trip so awesome!!! :)

Melia Las Dunas: The beach is absolutely beautiful !

Very impressed with Melia Las Dunas. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Love the El Rancho (BBQ). Lots of variety with food and willing to accommodate special requests. Lots of entertainment for the children. The 1.5 hr drive from the airport was worth it to see the beach.

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: NO Would not recommend this resort to anyone

The resort was good but the food was horrible even the one alacart restaurant we went to was terrible (the bbq alacart) the other one was fine. My brother Inlaw got food poisoning one night at the buffet and wouldn't chance eating there any more....the snack bar never had French fries so we couldn't even go there when we were hungry after going to the buffet and not finding much to eat and we are not fussy people when it comes to food. Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Beautiful Hotel

Beautiful grounds, pool, excellent beach! The service was amazing with the exception of most of the reception staff. The Hola Sun rep was amazing always there to help resolve the issues we had with the rooms and reception not being helpful ( gave us the wrong room twice). Overall it was a good vacation, would go back in a flash!
