Hotel Vigia: Good resort

My first time at this resort, overall pretty good, but needs some improvement on managing the restaurant at lunch/dinner peak times. Very good food with lots of options. Public areas clean and well maintained. Room was nice. We were first offered a brand new renovated room with oceanview, unfortunately we couldn't stay there because the door wasn't locking; a guy tried to fix it, but we decided to change the room since the safe wasn't working either, so we were moved to another room without prob [... read more]lems. The balcony doors don't have screens, so you can't keep the door open to get the fresh breeze. During our stay the wind was blowing like crazy, but it didn't bother us - kept bugs away so it's first time I came from Cuba without mosquito bites :) Kids were well looked after and entertained by the friendly entertainment crew.

Melia Jardines del Rey: 1st and last trip to Cayo Coco

My husband and I just returned from Cayo Coco Cuba. We stayed at the Melia Jardines Del Rey. Our stay at the resort was...I guess you could say boring. Let me explain the pros and cons of our trip. As this was our first trip away from the kids and Canada we don't have anything to compare it to. So I would say it is an unbiased rating. Pros..The resort itself is beautiful, very well maintained. The groun [... read more]ds staff do an amazing job at keeping up with the gardens and cleanliness of the resort. The beach in our opinion was fantastic, we walked about 5 miles everyday. And wow... is all I can day about the pools. Lots of room, and loungers. No mosquitos at all, but bring the repellent just in case. That way you won't need it. And now for the Cons.. The resort is very large so there is tons of walking. It is very dark and potentially dangerous at night and needs more lighting. A guest got off the bus upon arrival and fell into an unused water fountain and broke her leg. You will find these water fountains throughout the resort and it's unfortunate that they do not use them. So the water that is in them is standing water. The food was plentiful but very bland. We only used 1 of the 4 a la cartes we got. Wish we hadn't paid extra for them. Bana Japanese Restaurant was pleasant. The buffet has something for everyone. Activities were almost non existent. A little excerise at the pool in the morning and well.. that's about it. We were so bored we pretty much napped everyday just to waste some time. We booked an excursion for the Catamaran and snorkeling day but it was canceled due to high winds. No fault of the resort! While the weather was warm, it was sooo windy all the time all the water excursions were cancelled. We also went on the Classic American Car trip into the city of Moron. It was the most depressing day of my life. The city is very dirty and poor. Wild sick dogs everywhere pooping on the sidewalks and streets, mixed with horse poop and garbage made for a very unpleasant smell. Our driver spoke no english so there wasn't much to see as he didn't know where to take us. We couldn't get outta there fast enough. You don't really appreciate what we have here in Canada until you see how the people of Cuba live. So to some it all up, while the resort was beautiful it definetly didn't keep us entertained enough to go back. I booked this trip back in September and feel that we paid WAY to much for what was offered. As this was our first trip away we learned alot from other seasoned travelers. Would we recommend this resort. Yes..but if you are looking for activities bring lots of money cause there are only the excursions to do.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Some problems

Nice small place that's what we wanted but room had no hit water and no air conditioning they offered another room was worst. They ended up sending us to another hotel. Nice but a very large resort which we did not want to do so disappointed tainted us on Cuba and Melia operations

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Great resort!!

Pestana is a wonderful resort, everything is close together. The rooms are spacious and clean. The pool is nice but the beach is the best part!! Lots of space.....shade and sunny spots. Staff is good, helped when you needed anything. I had a problem with a broken shower head, it was fixed by the time we got back from the catamaran. I would definitely go back! And last but not least....the food, there is always something. Even for picky eaters! It was good for Cuban standards.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Good time was had by all

My family of four spend 7 days at this nice resort on our March Break. Despite the 1,000+ room facility being almost full, we never felt crowded and there was always space to move about and relax. The staff were top notch. Friendly and hard working. The beach was beautiful, but you need water shoes as there is coral and rock in the water for about 20 meters out. After that it's soft white sand with fantastic swimming. Rooms were new and well kept (the resort opened in 2015) but the beds were a b [... read more]it hard. Grounds are nice, but as this is a new resort, the vegetation is not mature so nothing is big and lush yet. Entertainment was probably the best part. Something new and exceptional every night. Such great musicians! The lobby and theatre areas are the main gathering points and there's tons of room and it's very clean and comfortable.There was a slight breeze all week, so we barely saw a mosquito, but we heard this can sometimes be an issue. The food was fine. This is Cuba, so you don't go for the food, but I would say as far as Cuba resort food goes, this resort is definitely on the upper scale as we all thought it was fine. ((Pro tip: bring 220v plug adapters. You could charge your USB devises on the TV, but only works when the TV is on. This was a constant battle for us making sure all cameras and phones got charged every night.))

Hotel Vigia: Disappointing

Staff was short through out the resort, the housekeeping was slow getting done, always short on towels, the shower drain was slow causing an odour to come up the sink drain, then the seal leaked around the toilet causing water on the floor, it wasn't,t corrected other than to have them wipe the floor up, only to have it happen again. Everyone seemed to be having problems with the safe, tv in room didn't,t work for the first 4 days then replaced, . This resort could be a great resort to visit again if some TLC was taken to look after it.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Excellent vacation spot

What a great place to spend a vacation! The food was excellent, the rooms were very spacious and clean, and the grounds were beautiful. What stands out the most though,is the staff of the Memories Flamenco Resort. Every single person was quick with a warm greeting and helpful service. Looking forward to returning next year!

Sol Cayo Coco: Wonderful staff and great small resort

Wow, the staff are fantastic, always ready to serve,tip or no tip. Ground are well cared for, resort is mall if you like that which we do. Food was the best we have had on eight trips to Cuba. Buffet is very very good. Go for the ocean view room, views are superb. Room 1430 is the quietest in the resort with the best view. Maids keep the rooms very clean, well done!

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Pestana - great bang for the buck!

The Pestana Cayo Coco is a fairly new compact resort on a great stretch of beach. The entertainment, food, and service were all very good and excellent if one considers only Cuban resorts. There is also endless hotwater and excellent shower water pressure.

Hotel Vigia: total disappointment

-slow checkin -no escort to room in dark or help with bags - got lost with luggage @ 12 am. we were furtherest building from lobby -fridge didnt work -tv had bad signal and sometimes unwatchable -not enough pool or beach chairs - we struggled every day. refused to be one of those people that puts a towel on a chair at 5 am and uses the chair for couple hrs out of day! -no hot water for showers -line up for dinner buffet - obviously not enough room in buffet for all bookings -snack bar bad and no [... read more] selection -worst food had in cuba -lock bad on room - struggle to get in room -lights burnt out on path near our room. dangerous at night -had no sheets one day. staff removed all bedding from beds then never came back with clean sheets. had to call them 2x to get update. -cardboard from new fridges laid on walk path for 4 days before cleaned up

Sol Cayo Coco: Sol Cayo coco

We recently visited sol Cayo coco ..our first impression was good until we went to our rooms (ground level) they were dingy,smelt musty and the fridge and ac didn't work..we were moved the next day to the 3rd level were it was much better.The resort itself was clean but do recommend taking toilet paper,extra towels and face clothes as there is only 2 bath towels. The food was really good lots of seafood..pool area very nice..definetly go to the beach on the other side of main beach as the one in [... read more] front of the resort was nice but due to high winds couldn't go in the water(red flag all week) but the other beach was secluded and was beautiful. If your looking for a quiet relaxing vacation it's perfect.would I go back unsure

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great value for your $

The good: very clean, large rooms, 24 H snack bar, decent a la carte restaurants and nice pool The bad: The beach has a lot of coral rock and it is small with no convenient access to bar or bathroom. All in all I was pleased.

Melia Jardines del Rey: great resort

rooms nice and new,services great,food as well, lot of different choices...entertainment was great every night,so It was great place to stay and relax... pool areas was amazing. I would definitely like to go back:)

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Clean, good food, no concerns

Found this resort to be somewhat more modern than many due to recent renovations (flat screen tvs, nice showers etc) Not all rooms have been renovated yet though.Found the food to be better than other resorts I've been to. They obviously work hard to keep things clean and maintained. Any issues we had were dealt with quickly with no hassle. Melia Cayo Coco: Forth Visit and we will go back next year

This was our fourth visit to Melia and were not dissapointed. Beach is the best ever! and staff are warm and friendly. The food is good by Cuban standards.We stayed in the Lagoon rooms once again and enjoyed.

Hotel Vigia: Terrible resort

The beach and the staff were great. The resort was terrible our room smelled like mold. Dirty everywhere,cockroaches, got bite galore by bedbugs, when we got home we ended up putting our clothes in a garbage bag in the garage and taking them out to be laundered and threw out our suitcases cause we were afraid of bringing any bedbugs in the house. We ended up getting sick from the food or by the lack of being clean in the buffet area. The guy cooking the meat at one of the grills was a recipe for [... read more] a cross contamination disaster. The dining tables had theses runners going across them that were just moved over when they cleaned the table so whatever fell on them would be left for the next people sitting there with the new cutlery and a napkin right ontop. It's a shame really. We love Cuba and try to visit somewhere new every time we go, unfortunately this is the first and last time we go to a Sol Cayo Guillermo.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Second Return Trip!!!

This was our second trip to Pestana Cayo Coco in two years. This is a relatively new resort - very clean and definitely friendly! We were very pleased with everything Pestana offered last year; and pleasantly surprised with the improvements we found this year. It was good to see familiar staff faces from a year ago - that tells us that the staff is treated well, and everyone was so helpful and friendly. We enjoy the fact that this is a 'smaller' resort - the staff recognize you and treat you w [... read more]ell. And everything is within walking distance - no need for the 'golf cart' to drive you from one point to the other. We are already planning Trip #3 - and bringing more friends! Very impressed with the entire experience.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Amazing resort.

The resort was fantastic. The grounds were kept well and there was always someone working on them. I love the flowers that they have and they were blooming while were there. So it was special. The hotel was nice as I remember from the previous visit. We thought the food was better than the last time. The nightly entertainment was fantastic. The dancers were great and put in a lot of work to make it enjoyable by everyone one. The Michael Jackson night was fantastic and the retro night was great.  [... read more]They had kids show before the nightly entertainment which I thought was great since there were quite a few small children. We usually do not travel until April so this was such a treat. The room was cleaned it every day and we had such a nice surprise when we got back to our room she made swans etc. The ocean was cold but we braved and went in a couple of times. The beach is rocky so it is a good idea to bring beach shoes. There was no shortage of beach chairs. We also stayed at pool side which was nice as well. There were plenty of chairs. The pool was also cold but we went in anyway. We are going back to this resort next year. We really had fun. The people of Cuba are the greatest. They are super friendly and would do anything for you.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Very good choice for a budget vacation

Stayed for 7 days Feb. 19 - 26, 2016 Travelled Solo Fifteen minutes bus ride from the airport, quick check-in accompanied by refreshing welcome cocktails. Stayed in block 5, close to everything and very quiet. No issues with my room, everything worked and housecleaning was done perfectly and daily. Food: I would suggest to eat close to opening hours, 7:30 AM & 6:00 PM, plenty of choices and seating is readily available. For lunches I used the grill and other outdoor food kiosks. Didn't try any " [... read more]a la carte" restaurants. Hotel Grounds: Nicely laid out with hotel layout maps situated at strategic points. Clean and even walkways. A little hilly for those with walking issues. Young vegetation and very promising for the future. Beaches: There are two. As you walk to the end of the walkway you have a choice of going right or left. On the right is the crowded, busy, loud / partying beach. You are situated in front of the swimming area. On the left is the "rocky" side but quieter area. Only a short walk to the swimming area and as close to the bar as the right side if not closer. A lot of room for loungers at low tide. It was my preferred side. A good place for those who enjoy snorkeling. Suggestions: Pocket flashlight, the walkways are not that well lit. Beach towel(s). Face cloth. Water shoes (a must if want to wonder on the rocky / coral side). Individual coffee packs, the hotel does run out at times. Individual powered milk for the coffee. Plastic clips to secure your beach towel to your lounger, it can get quite windy. Ice cube baggies if you enjoy a quiet drink on your balcony For the Management: More onsite security personnel (ground patrols). Re-enforcement of the two hours absence for the loungers.

The hotel was good in that there was a clean bed every night and a beach to go to every day. The water was nice, but you had to make your way through a maze of coral before you could make it deep enough to actually swim. The pools were very nice! Service there was quite good. The rooms were very similar to many other hotels where I have stayed before. The shower was very modern, air conditioning was great, good view from the balcony. There were many trolleys picking people up and taking them where they needed to go, but the resort was well laid out so if there isn't a trolley, walking is very easy.
