Starfish Cuatro Palmas: Relaxing vacation

We spent a week at Starfish Cuatro Palmas at the end of June, and had a very nice time. The resort was perhaps half-full, if that, so selection at the buffet was a little limited but still, we always found something to eat. The International a la carte restaurant is set up on a spacious veranda overlooking the beach—very nice to watch the sun setting over the ocean as you dine al fresco. We had an oceanview room. It was small and plain, but clean and adequate for our needs. The bathroom had a [... read more] faint latrine smell so we kept the door closed. The theatre performances are very amplified but things seemed to wrap up around 11 or so, so noise wasn’t a problem for us. The music club, Calle 62, is right across the street so if your room faces in that direction you will hear noise till well into the wee hours. Our ocean facing room was quiet. Staff, for the most part, were polite and friendly. The beach is gorgeous, with plenty of loungers. We enjoyed our vacation and would stay again.

Melia Marina Varadero: Not what we expected - needs maintenance work.

Room was not as expected. Sink in bathroom was cracked. Food was not what we would expect from a resort of this category. It left a lot to be desired. Location might be good, but not the best. Staff was not as welcoming as other places we have been, so bad that we requested a transfer from Air Canada Vacations personnel.

Melia Las Antillas: 26th time, always feels like home

this is for us the best hotel and people in all of Cuba. food amazing and everyone is so friendly, some becoming part of our "family". if you want a home away from home, this is the place..... ......

Palma Real: Loved it

This is my second time at this resort . First being in feb, there have been a lot of changes since the new managers took over and it has definitely improved! A lot of fun to be had there. The entertainment is great the food well is mediocre

Memories Jibacoa: Such a great holiday, returning soon!

It was our first time at this resort, and my fourth time travelling in Cuba. We went to Memories Jibacoa specifically for snorkelling at the coral reef directly offshore. Our oceanview rooms were perfectly situated at the beach, although one of my family member's rooms had faulty air conditioning which was not resolved during the course of our stay. From reading other reviews, this seems to be an issue at this resort in many rooms and I must admit that I'd be apprehensive about booking there  [... read more]in the future unless air conditioning issues are fixed. Another friend's room in our same building had similar faulty air conditioning, unfortunately. My room was cool, thankfully. My room did leak during a torrential rainstorm one day but, es Cuba... it was ok, no big deal. Having said that, we thoroughly enjoyed the beach and resort amenities. Food in the buffet was fairly decent (especially the desserts!) and we tried things we never would have at home - the standouts were the stewed lamb, steamed clams and cream of pumpkin soup (really!). The best suggestion I have is to ask the staff what their favorites are on the menu, and they'll never steer you wrong. One insider tip is to try the grill near the pool - he cooks over a charcoal bbq and makes incredible shrimp skewers. Speaking of staff, I really have to say that the resort staff is what makes the resort top notch. Every single person we interacted with was amazingly friendly and helpful, and all very efficient and concerned with our needs. Everyone spoke excellent English as well as other languages such as French, German, and more. I will definitely return, hopefully soon, as my passion is for snorkelling the coral reef directly offshore. It's so hard to compare to Varadero resorts, some of which are at a higher star level and as such offer even more amenities, larger food selections, and proximity to off-resort activities in town, etc, but for those who are interested in a quiet resort surrounded by countryside less than 1 hour from Havana, and particularly with diving and snorkelling options on the offshore coral reef which Varadero lacks, I highly recommend this resort.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Great staff

Rooms are deteriorating, grounds are in good condition, pool needs to be repaired and kept clean. For what I heard there is some renovations happening in the next 2 months, the one section of the hotel is already closed.

Barcelo Solymar: Needs improvement

The beach was beautiful but the resort just need a little more care. Not too clean, service is slow but ok. Food was edible but could be better. I’ve been to this resort 4 years ago and it had more to offer. Complete snack bar and menu was full. Here they had a full Menu with only hamburgers to choose.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Beach Dust Between Your Toes

We had the pleasure of meeting the new Sanctuary restuarant Manager Carlos on his first day at the resort. As repeat guests, we mentioned to him the staff are very attentive, friendly and smile all the time serving us breakfast. They would have our cappuccino with Bailey’s and mimosas as soon as we walk into the restaurant ready for us. Bartenders Jesus and Yuniel exchanged stories with my husband’s love of baseball. The nightly bands in the lounge were great especially the rock n roll band, Cuban bands and duos. The tap dancer is very loud for the lounge area & thevdancing seems repetitive and was not a favourite entertainer for us. Bartenders Jesus, Yuniel, Meylin & Leodan handle the busy bar with ease, keeping guests happy and being friendly. They all have super bartending skills. Our housekeeper Jeny looked after our room and kept it spotless. Her special touch arranging the towels in different shapes. Jeny is a hard working, sweet woman. We had happy times and conversation with our very favourite shuttle driver Hanoy a real gentlemen and very courteous. Tony who is his colleague makes us laugh with his enthusiasm and being so lively. It truly shows Hanoy and Tony enjoy their job and the guests they meet. Would just like to say although the resort is all inclusive, we noticed many guests do not tip the staff. The staff work extremely hard while always cheerful and helpful. This is our personal observation and know a cuc currency goes a long way for them. Hoping the new beach bar will be opened when we return. Alexander (Alex) is busy on the beach. We are thankful he puts out our beach chairs and provides bar service on the beach. It’s not easy delivering drinks in the heat. Alexander & Raoul try hard to monitor tourist who do not have wrist bands for the Sanctuary who try and sit in our designated area. We appreciate the Diamond Club/Sanctuary have their own section on the beach. It’s one of the reasons we want to stay at the resort! The best restaurants to have dinner is the Sancutary restuarant and Gourmet. The Director of the Sancutary Luz is amazing and looks after her staff with respect. We love the staff at the Sanctuary and consider them family. We can hardly wait to return for our 8th time to the resort. As they say in Cuba, see you soon, not goodbye....

Melia Las Antillas: great vacation

Staff are nice, food was good, they have freshly made bakery, enough variety of fruit and vegetable, Grilled food was satisfying and loved coffee. The beach and pool, both were clean. I liked live music in the bar and almost all performances. I will be back soon!

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Amazing stay at Iberostar Varadero!

Hotel was very clean. Staff went above and beyond to ensure we were happy. The beach is absolutely gorgeous!!! Lots of chairs and umbrellas for shade both at the beach and the pool. Pool was a lot of fun too and great for kids. The whole hotel was really well set up for families. We want to go back to this resort!

Starfish Varadero: horrible resort now

We have been to this resort when it was called Club Amigo and Aqua Azules. Now that it is called Starfish the services is horrible at this resort. We as a group of 5 people attended are last a la carte on Wed. June 20th it was the seafood a la carte. we got to the restaurant were seated then it happen we were indeed with flies and i mean 100's of them. we were finally asked to go outside to finish our meal as they had to spray the interior of the building. We have travel many times to Cuba and this was the most horrible experience we have had and it just wasn't us every time you went to the lobby someone was complaining about the service. Bed sheets in our room were changed only once in the week we were there that is because we were in the room when they showed up to clean the room. The wife had an accident on the double-decker bus on Tues. June 19th. She fall on to her knee causing a gash that required 6 stitches to close. The hotel was no help regarding crutches or a wheelchair to help my wife to get around so she was confined to the room from Tuesday till we left on Thursday.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Disppointing

this was our 2nd time at this resort, and we went back as we were meeting friends. The staff was AMAZING, however the hotel services were terrible. The al a cart's were not available, and the food at the buffet's were very limited and hardly any selection. We ended up going off the resort to eat more times than at the hotel. The nightly entertainment was great, but during the day, there was nothing going on. no entertainment by the pool, or on the beach like last time. Resonance Blu Varadero: Excellent

All very good .Hotel staffs are very friendly.Food all in time and lots of fruits.All fresh.Room was cleaned every day and new towels.Beach bar and dining room,lot of choice.Everystaffs are very helpful and friendly.

Blau Varadero: The best resort resort ever!

I have been going to Blau for over seven years. According to me this resort is a five star not a forur. It's everything we could ask for. The staff are great and the food is great! There is something to please everyone. The grounds are always well kept. Many of the rooms have been upgraded and very comfortable and beautiful! Like I said all we could ask for. Barcelo Solymar: Amazing time in Veradero!

The hotel service was great. Once I arrived check in was seamless. The people were super courtious and very genuine. I booked a bungalow which had great space and a huge king size bed and a sweet balcony. The room was super clean and always prepared. I felt super safe on and off the resort. The food was not superb but not horrible. For what it's worth everything on the resort was great! I will say that the beaches do not provide towels, but travelers are provided 2 beach towels within your room. [... read more] Aside from that there was some visible construction going on outside of the resort. But, this was not in my bungalow view. Grear hosts and water sports as well. Both flights arrival and departure were on time and attendants were great. Cuba is amazing! Awsome deal and great price for the value of this trip. I will be going to Cuba again. Thanks to Sunwing and Tripcentral.

Melia Marina Varadero: Superb Resort!

Great for first timers! Brought my parents and parents-in-laws for the very first time in Cuba. We all had an amazing experience, from food, rooms, and beach. Although, the resort has still a lot of potential to be improved, our stay was still super fun & memorable indeed. Kudos to Monika of Trip Central for a job well done in booking all our reservations and for a very good attitude towards new travellers like me & my fam :)

Muthu Playa Varadero: Excellent for the price

It was well kept and clean our room was great and very clean. Pool needs work done to it. Needs some other repairs, older hotel, but overall for the money it was worth it. Staff is very friendly and cheerful always willing to help you. Nightly shows we’re great congratulations to the performers.
