Melia Varadero: Best Resort I've Been to - Ever!
Hotel was clean, staff were super nice and professional. Great room for sleeping, because that's the only thing you do in a All inclusive room. Pools were great, ocean view was perfect, weather was a bit cooler at 24 - 26c and windy during our stay, but everything else was great.
Paradisus Rio De Oro: Lovely Resort
As far as the food goes, the restaurants for dinner were all excellent! The buffet was fine. There was a large selection, but we pretty much stuck to eggs and toast for breakfast. I would say 60% of the people were well over 60 years old, so may not suit younger couples. Enjoyed the evenings with entertainment. Service was ok but I would not say exceptional
Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful resort
Beautiful resort but we found it to big. Gave to walk far to get to any area. There are golf carts driven by employees that will pick you up but good luck. The wait is long. Several areas / things we never found due to size. Pools are excellent lots of lounges and lots of room. Food needs improvement . Larger buffet area needed as two times we were there doors were closed as too many people
Hotel Vigia: Disappointed by the resort.
The rooms. Very old but expected. I did not expect the aweful smell in the room. Very musty and moldy and the smell did not go away. Shower was like a pressure washer, no shower head. Patio doors would not lock. They moved us after 3 days to another room, much better. Staff very nice. Food not so much. Beach amazing, best thing I can say about the trip. Sunwing rep needs to be replaced, very rude and not helpful at all.
Melia Jardines del Rey: Be careful at this resort
Raw sewage smell at #20 building where we stayed. Also # 19 building. We could NOT sit outside of our room due to this terrible smell. Killed mosquitoes in our room every day during our stay for 11 days. We reported it to front desk but nothing was done to correct the problem. The food was OK but nothing exciting. Food was scarce if you did not get in the dining area early. I rate this resort at 3.5 star NOT a 4 or 5 star as reported
Melia Las Antillas: Terrible
Cross contamination on grilling station , bugs in room. Switched to another room. More bugs , not a 4 1/2 star , staff rude. You are bothering them when you want a drink. Told me no water in rooms then when we tipped he brought me water , told me no extra pillows even though mine were dirty.
Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice Resort but Beware!!
This is a beautiful resort. The staff is amazing (especially the entertainment staff!) The grounds are going to be beautiful...( it's fairly new so it doesn't have a mature landscape). However.....the food is below the standards of even Cuba. There was lots of sick people at the resort. The buffet appears to be under staffed. We were always looking for a clean table, utensils, etc. I hope with time this gets straightened out because it really is a beautiful resort.
Paradisus Rio De Oro: Amazing resort.
We visited the resort for a 2nd time Feb 2016. Our room was was very clean with an updated bathroom. The food was good however very disappointed at the lack of available reservations at the restaurants. We attempted to reserve restaurant the day we arrived and was only able to reserve at 2 restaurants at a reasonable hour. However guests arrived later in the week who had upgraded to Royal Service were offered reservations that were not available to us. The food and the staff at the buffet was go [... read more]
Melia Peninsula Varadero: Nice and Relax place to go
We enjoy the stay in this resort, room size is good, beach is a nice place for a long walk. Food compare to cruise is not that good, but for this price I think it is fair. Nice people to serve us too.
Melia Las Dunas: Average Resort
The resort was certainly worth what we paid for it. Which was not a lot. Nothing outstanding. Food was okay, service was okay, and room was just okay. The grounds were well kept and the restaurants and common areas such as the lobby were nice. The pools were good and the beach was nice. I would not go back to this resort.
Memories Cayo Largo: It's all about the beach
The hotel itself is getting a little tired despite having a fresh coat of whitewash over the previous decorative painting. The grounds are becoming more beautiful with time as plants continue to flourish under the care of the gardeners. The beds we got this time were better, but I still heard others complain about bad ones. Seems its luck-of-the-draw here. Be prepared to ask for a change if it's not working. The beach is still beautiful, although in Cuba it still seems to be up to concerned tour [... read more]
Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Winter escape!
I enjoyed my stay; great service, terrific staff, wonderful beach & marvellous bands in the lobby in the evening. Japanese great. Would like to see the lobby area better lit; too dark in the evenings.
Zel Cozumel: Great resort
Great staff, friendly, lots to do (poolside activities, archery, mini golf, shuffleboard, horseshoes, volleyball, etc. So close to the ocean, nice beach. Food was great, lots of variety to suit all tastes. Only down side was elevator was out of service.
Melia Marina Varadero: Amazing Resort!
Just returned from the Melia Marina. We spent 5 days at this resort. The hotel is incredibly beautiful and the staff was great. The A La Carte and the quality of the buffet was wonderful. There was enough selection for everyone even picky eaters. The rooms were a good size and clean. We would definitely go back to this hotel if we visit again!
Melia Las Antillas: Just an okay resort
listed as a 4.5 star, it isn't! Should be listed as a 3 star. Inconsistencies in food, facilities, services and staff made for an interesting stay. When it was good, it was very good (food) when it was bad it was terrible (food poisoning due to poor food handleing). Many staff do not speak enough English to understand anything, so hope you can speak some Spanish. The good was the pool, the beach. Stay away from the a la carte restaurant El Romantico...we both got sick from the food, the service [... read more]
Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Great resort
We've been to Cuba 7 times now, and this resort did not disappoint. The location is what really makes this place special. Up on a cliff overlooking the ocean, you can see the water from most vantage points. We go to Cuba for it's beaches, and don't stay by the pool. However, the almost infinity-like view from the main pool area is great. The resort is a combination of two previous resorts (Luna and Mares) and this makes it more interesting IMO. If you've been to Cuba before and stayed at 4+ star [... read more]
Paradisus Varadero: The paradisus is not a five star resort.
The Paradisus informed us at the airport that the hotel was full, we got bumpt to another hotel for two nights. Our Air Canada representative did a dissapearing act so was no help what so ever.We were offered no upgrade for this inconvenience. This is the second time we have booked a Paradisus and they have been over booked. This hotel is very tired looking, and in need of upgrading. If you book the royal service side you will have a five star hotel. At best I would say it is four star. The servic [... read more]
Paradisus Rio De Oro: I Love Rio de Oro
Rio de Oro has been a regular part of our vacations now for 15 years, and we spend at least a week there each year. The facility is small, and by many world standards, is not a 5 star resort. However, because of the people who works there, this resort more than compensates for any deficiencies. Since our visit last year, they have upgraded the pool and surrounding decking, as well as the pool restaurant. The rooms are now a little dated, but work is underway to renovate them. Food-wise, the buf [... read more]
Melia Marina Varadero: A Nice Surprise
A lovely hotel that surpassed the indifferent Trip Advisor reviews of all-inclusives in Varadero. A very attentive and accommodating front desk staff; a well-appointed and comfortable room with prompt maid service; well maintained grounds, a large pool and easy access to a long sandy beach a ten minute walk or 2 minute golf cart ride from the pool yet still on hotel grounds. Clientele tends to be beyond college-age rowdy. Food seems designed for North American tastes (ie add your own condiments) [... read more]
Melia Cayo Santa Maria: The Best! (in our opinion)
I've purposely titled my review this way because resorts (especially in Cuba) are usually a matter of personal taste. We love the smaller size, quiet style and quaint atmosphere of this resort very much (we've been 6 times). Service is top-notch, grounds and amenities are beautiful, beach is number one. The resort had hiccups this trip (next to no water pressure, very little hot water) but we know that this isn't usually the case because it's the first time we've had a real issue in all our visi [... read more]
