Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great experience!
Had a great experience at this resort, would recommend! The resort is clean and very well kept up. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We accidentally locked ourself out of the safe in our room and after we reported it at the front desk, a security guard came a few minutes later to help us unlock the safe. The food at the resort is good and there is some variety at the main buffet. We found that much of the food at the buffet is similar throughout the week, but that wasn't an issue for u[... read more]s and we always found things we enjoyed eating. Most importantly to us, we didn't get sick! The best meals we had were the lunches at the beach - would definitely recommend eating at the beach! We didn't pay for a room upgrade and stayed in the basic room, but it was perfect for us. Simple room but very clean, spacious, and had a nice balcony. The resort felt safe and the beach and pool were fantastic, which were our main priorities. Had a great experience, would recommend!

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo: 3rd time to this complex and we will be back - Iberostar Pariaso Lindo
We just returned back from a wonderful week at the Lindo Hotel, stayed April 14-21st. We went with our two teenagers and had two rooms booked. Since we pay the adult rate for both kids now being 13 and 17, it is the same price to book 2 rooms or 1. We emailed in advance to ask for rooms side by side or adjoining rooms. We were informed via email that the adjoining rooms would be extra and were prepared to pay for them. Our flight with WestJet was uneventful which is perfect and our private [... read more]transfer with Kalido was wonderful (cost $100 USD return). We waited about 30 minutes for baggage arriving on a Sunday around 1:00pm, customs took no time at all. Upon arrival at the hotel we paid an extra $50 USD per night and received newly renovated family suite rooms in building 54 on the ground floor. I was thrilled as that is exactly what we wanted. The location was perfect and ground floor is my favourite.
The resort was busy, they desperately need more bartenders! Only 1 at the swim up bar all week, that guy was so busy all day, every day. Actually only 1 bartender at most of the bars, so there was always a long line up for drinks. Insulated mugs are a must so you don't have to wait in that line too much.
Food was incredible. I got most of the restaurant reservations we wanted which I booked right away with the concierge, except one night. I checked the app a few times and a 6pm at Hashiru the Japanese restaurant opened up and we took it. I was not impressed with the buffet, it was just busy all week, no matter what time we went. I guess not enough staff to keep up as the service was slow. The food at the buffet was good, but it was just not an enjoyable meal with so many people in lines and kids running all around the place. We ate at the following:
Buffet Dinner first night - it wasn't my thing, so we did not go back for dinner. It was just really really busy so not too enjoyable for us.
El Museo Gourmet - it's a new menu now, not a set menu and it was delicious, one of our favourite meals
Lemon & Spices - this one was my favourite, I love Greek food
Hashiru - we went for the kids, but personally it is the same show at every resort, when it is just my husband and I, we would skip it
Under the Sea - service was great, the sculptures are wonderful and the food there was really tasty
El Rancho - excellent food, we could just eat that bread all night and be happy
Olivetti Italian - this was excellent as well, I had the sea bass with risotto, so good.
We participated in activities throughout the week, but mostly kept to ourselves. We had many trips around the lazy river, which yes is lazy but we loved it. Lots of shade in the lazy river, so it was nice to be in there. The wave pool we used, but it is really geared to the young kids, it is just not that deep. The main pool and the waterslides were perfect for our teens.
My biggest disappointment was the beach. The beach itself is great, but with red flags every single day, the water was not swimmable. It is really rough water on that whole stretch of resorts, we knew this coming in, and that is why the lazy river and waterslides are a big plus here.
We booked one tour through Nexus (Westjet/Sunwing) and decided we will never book with them again. The tour was not as described only visiting 1 coral reef and not 3, they did not provide any snacks or lunch which they said they would, and they did not provide return transportation to the hotel. They left you stranded at their location so you could spend more money on food and drinks and souvenirs. Next time, I would book a tour through a private company like Kalido.
Overall the week was exceptional, it was our third trip to this complex, first two times we stayed at Maya. Staying at the Lindo, I did not feel as though I missed a thing, it was perfect. We stayed at the Maya previously as there were 4 of us in 1 room and I wanted the extra space. Now that we get two rooms, kids are 13 and 17, we don't need each room to be bigger and having two bathrooms is a big plus.
We met and friended one of the star friends named Franco. He really made my son's week. He has been there for about 5 years now and is really a gem on the resort, this guy deserves a raise!
Do not hesitate to book Lindo, you will have a wonderful week.

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: Best value for money
We have stayed at this resort 7 times now and one of our daughters was married here 8 years ago.
We have also stayed at both Secrets several times and this resort is better value for the cost.
This last time there were some cons compared to previous visits but also some pros.
The Buffett was amazing and Luis the PR and the head chef and fellow staff were fantastic wanting to make it the best experience. No more reservations at the French or Steal House. The new pizzaria was excellent. The[... read more] steak house and french were not as good as previous visits. Downgraded menus and poor wait staff but the buffet staff made up for it. Isabel at breakfast and lunch was beyond expectations as well as Gustavo at dinner.
Rooms are plain but comfortable beds and very clean.
We love the beach and Antonio at the beach provides great service.
No friendly bartenders or this trip but Myrna was great at the tiki bar.
We will highly likely stay again.

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: Mediocre at best
Pools are nice, beach is beautiful, rooms are great, grounds are clean, staff is Ok but the food is awful. Lack of variety is one thing, but whatever you do have, can you make it tasty? Bring condiments from home. You get what you pay for. Although I got a nice tan. ?

Iberostar Selection Bavaro Suites: It's ok, but would not go back
The good:
This resort is very well taken care of.
We had a HUGE storm one night. I looked outside early (6 am), and there was debris everywhere - by 8 am, it was as if nothing had happened.
The grounds are well taken care of.
The room was nice, a little worn out, but above average based on our experience of going to resorts in DO.
A handful of staff were amazing. Two from the main buffet and three from the lobby bar - they made us feel very welcome.
The steak house was AMAZING!!!
I h[... read more]ad an amazing beef rib dish. It would have easily beat both of my fav steak restaurants in Montreal and Toronto! Everyone at our table had an amazing dish and top-notch service!
The not-so-good:
When we arrived, we were greeted by check-in staff, who made it seem like we were a burden. He was very cold towards us. We were not deterred by this. Everyone has a bad day once in a while.
Unfortunately, this theme was consistent throughout our stay across the buffets and bars by the beach and pool area.
The a-la-carte restaurants we visited were the Japanese Grill, Steak House and Italian.
The Japanese Grill was so awful that one guy threw up eating his food. It was extremely salty!
The Italian was the same food you got from the pizza and pasta station at the buffet, with no service. I gave up on a pepper grinder, walked to the server's station on the other side of the restaurant, and just got my own.
Again, the food was over-salted, and as someone who loves salt, I think that's saying something!
Entertainment - it's the same songs and show every night - and no matter where your room is located on the resort - YOU WILL HEAR IT!!
The beach... If you enjoy walking in sand and cigarette butts, you will enjoy it!
Drinks on the beach... Good luck - ZERO service while on the beach - there were servers, but they were having too much fun chatting with their co-workers.
If you like to snorkel, Barcelo Beach is not the best place for it. Rough Atlantic waters make it quite difficult, but if you are a good swimmer and are confident, you should be okay - but watch that current. Mixing 5ft waves and fine sand will disorientate you!
The swell was HUGE - on a calm day, what would be 5ft deep would be 12-13ft deep.
If you really want to see some amazing marine life (and there is some amazing sights), look at the tide times and go out on the incoming tide.
My final comment is not to go beyond the rope, divider. Speed boats rip up and down within a couple of feet of that line - they will NOT see you, and if you are snorkelling within 20ft of the rope, you will choke on the exhaust fumes from these boats!!
In summary, the positives were too few compared to the negatives.
My inlaws, who were with us, had been to the same resort just before covid and said it's gone downhill considerably.
Maybe internal politics is causing the staff to be not as friendly or attentive, who knows.
Such a shame - my inlaws loved the last two times they went, but this time, they didn't recognize the place based on service.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Will never go back there again
do never go to this hotel. Its very mouldy service is no good. Food is no good. Drinks are no good. The beach was not even clean. the bedsheets in the room are never changed. The pillowcases are never changed. Customer service don’t care for their customers. I was sick and my friend too for the whole week that we are there. I do not recommend this place at all.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Loved every minute
Another amazing week at the Iberostar. Good food (as far as I know they ran out of pop, but that doesn't effect us as we are not pop drinkers.) weather was amazing, staff so friendly and the shows are amazing.
Now the down side, there is a new (very green) manager who is not in the least bit interested in how happy his guests are. When speaking with staff, they are all not happy with him. He won't even speak to many of the staff, no good morning, doesn't know many by name. Which is really sad [... read more]because you can feel tension when he is around.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites: Fantastic resort and a wonderful vacation!
We spent five nights in April, staying at Iberostar Maya. The food was amazing, and there were tons of activities to keep us entertained and occupied for the entire stay!
I would go back in a heartbeat! The ocean was windy, but we enjoyed jumping on the waves. The waterpark was wonderful for younger kids. We ate at a restaurant each night of our stay; the best restaurant was Greek "Lemon and Spices," followed by Asian and Seafood. The steakhouse was okay.

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: Beautiful beach
The resort is far from airport. Unfortunately food shortages and not much food at all no eggs no pop. Bring a lot of snacks with you. Rooms where nice. Ac worked great. Staff was friendly.
Grounds are beautiful. Beach is nice.
This hotel is well maintained, clean, and modern. The staff was polite and helpful. Shoutout to the trolly drivers and the kids club workers, they were amazing. The pools and kids area were great, always lots of chairs and places to sit. The ocean was nice and clean no seaweed. Unfortunately due to shortages in Cuba the food was a major issue. There was plenty of food but not many options. Pasta, for supper and lunch everyday, rice and fish also. Not much meat, no eggs. Only watermelon for fruit[... read more] and cucumbers and tomato for veggies. By day 7 eating was a chore and not very pleasant. The snack bar ran out of everything and were serving weiners on pineapple. This wasn't the fault of the hotel of course, it really showcased the state Cuba is in with shortages. Bring salt, ketchup, and any condiments you may enjoy. The only suggestion I have for the hotel would be the entertainment. It is a very quiet hotel, the pool entertainment was water Zumba, night entertainment was the same every night, no beach party or anything like that. Overall I would say 6/10 due to food shortages and lack of entertainment.

Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Cayo Cruz
Just back rom 2 weeks at the Iberostar Coral adult only resort. Beach was much less wide than expected at high tide. Photos from the resort were taken at low tide. When low tide nice to walk. Unfortunately during our stay there was a lot of wind which brought in weeds which the resort was very slow to clean up. The palapas are very close together with 4 to a palapa so if you are just 2 it isn't private at all. We spent the majority of the time at the pool which was quite nice and much more [... read more]private. As we are both swimmers the long 8 foot wide section connecting the buildings and 2 larger pools is perfect for doing lengths without bothering anybody. Water was crystal clear and zero garbage around. As the resort is fairly new the foliage is in the majority not yet mature but the gardeners do a great job keeping it nice and cleaned. Ate once at a restaurant but as we hate following a schedule on holidays we didn't repeat it. The buffet always had lots of food and the chefs did a good job in trying to change things up with what they had to work with. Have been to Cuba over 25 times so I know not to be a picky eater. The lobby bar was well stocked with more choice than the snack bar bar. The beach bar has no ice, never, go figure? No footwashing station when you come up from the beach and if you don't like wearing your sandals with lots of sand it is a long hot walk to the nearest station. Very little entertainment and no blaring music so we slept great. Bed very comfortable and bathroom nice and clean. Drive from airport longer than expected. 2 hours minimum. All in all we would go back.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Not the Iberostar it once was......
As outlined in most of reviews I read, the following are rated by my standards of an All Inclusive Week:
Property: excellent maintained and beautiful.
Pool: Large and a great feature of the resort. Pool chairs were a problem for only half of the week.
Food: Average. Buffet was very similar but did have a good variety of items. Went to the Italian for dinner one night, it was terrible. Went to the Smoke house one night it was very good. Buffet did have good service staff every time we wen[... read more]t. Tipping does help as we did.
Towel exchange: Very good system and fast.
Beach: Very good compared to most Mayan beaches.
Value for the week: Below my expectations. I was here back in 2018 and I do believe the resort offerings have gone downhill.
Room: Good. Dated but clean. Everything worked but its time to do some renovations.
Check in/out: Great. Arrived late so were the only ones that checked in. Check out was very easy and fast.
Concierge: Horrible. It reminded me of the time share bandits that usually hound you at the Cancun Airport. Must be on a commission or have quotas in the job. Very unprofessional for the Iberostar chain. Never really understood me when i indicated I wasn't interested.
Shops: Pricing was ridiculous. Not sure why but it seemed that everything was overpriced and not of great value. I looked at a shirt and felt that the price was 4 times more than what it was worth. I did notice that suntan lotion was totally stupid in price. Make sure you bring more than what you need.
Staff: Pool entertainers were great, front desk great and room cleaning was also great. I guess my only concern is a disappointment with Management. I really didn't feel like a valued Customer.
No plans to go back to this resort. I might give Iberostar another chance down the road.

Had a great stay. Staff were always greeting us and helpful. Very clean and well kept. Pools were always clean and maintained. Kids area was top notch. Top stars to all the staff and managers that work hard to keep the guests happy. As has been said about all of Cuba about the food. Yes the choices are limited. This isn't the staffs fault. Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Beautiful Vacay
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and stay at Iberostar Daiquiri, Guillermo Jardines Del Reyes. Expectations were absolutely met.
No food or supply shortages. Staff were all absolutely Amazing. Always smiling and genuinely wanting to help and serve you.
Our only feedback would be a better explanation of the wifi access/limits and a venue with some snacking food available 24 hours.
Outside of that again it was a fantastic stay!!
