Disappointing

Hotel grounds clean, most staff courteous, but noisy up until the last night--had to move 3 times, first night moved due to noise from the stage. The night before we left there was a water leak in bathroom at the toilet. Maintenance took 2 hours to come to our room and was unable to fix the leak so we moved to another room at 11;00 p.m. But before even staying 5 minutes in that room we noticed the water was shut off. I called reception and we were then moved to room next door. On the way to the  [... read more]beach the Cubans were standing just on the out skirts of the resort asking for food/alcohol & clothing. Now to advise further the Buffet, food was good but noticed Cuban's that were staying in the resort had big purses with plastic bags inside. They then dumped plate fulls of chicken/ribs and deserts in the bags and left. As for the alcohol the Cubans also got glasses filled with brandy/dark rum and proceed to pour it into empty water bottles. One time at the Entertainment Bar I asked for dark rum but was advised they didn't have any. Another time we were standing in line one evening at the Buffet a young gentleman came out of the bathroom and yelled out "I'm going to punch someone out." He continued to say there is a Cuban in the bathroom peeing in the sink." When the Cuban came out of the bathroom the young man pointed and yelled "That's him." Some heated words were exchanged between them and to our relief the young man's friend prevented a fight.

Get what you pay for

The area is beautiful and the rooms were what I expected. There were four in our group and 1 out of 4 enjoyed the food. The entertainment staff made the trip for us, exspecially Yuny. Take the dance lessons if you have time, worth to effort. :)

Awesome as always!

I have been to Club Amigo many times in the past. This was my second time over Halloween. The staff are fantastic and the beach is beautiful. I will keep going time and time again. Fantastic! If you are wondering how it is just go to the Facebook page for Club Amigo and see what people are posting. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Great resort with the best beach I've ever been to

the rooms were clean and the maid was awesome,the resort is situated on guardalavaca beach beautiful sunsets .the locals are friendly and every sat night a big dance party beside the hotel my friend and I had a great night

Great place! Great people!

My first time in Cuba and I will definitely be going back to this resort. The rooms are clean and the staff are helpful. I had heard the good in Cuba wasn't very good but this was not the case. Thank you Club Amigo.... See you in January!

Beautiful Guadalavaca Beach!!

My 4 th trip to Holguin resorts and my first negative review. Same limited choices day in and day out. Cabbage and cucumbers daily for salad. Pasta looked awful and it was. Cuban kids didn't like it. My husband is not fussy and he had a hard time with the food!! Too many rude and loud locals come for the week ends. Unruly kids with lousy parents. So much smoking all around, in the pools and the ocean!! The price is far too high lately for this resort. Use to be reasonable . Mildew Central

The beach and the grounds are lovely. For the second time, the room they'd gave us was uninhabitable due to mold and mildew. My sinuses lit up like a wildfire and I had to back out of the room. Eggs were not available for breakfast. The plastic cups at the bars seemed to have gotten smaller since our last visit. We traveled on Air Canada Discount carriers and the planes were crowded, poorly ventilated, and service was non existent. I would recommend you find a different airline for your trip. Disappointing

Just returning from Club Amigo.My room was not ready till 4:40 pm (I arrived at 12:30). The services at the front desk was slow and inconsistent. The food is so so.The best was Ashley Café. Great beaches.

More then i expected

From the food, villa overlooking the pool, pool with walk up restaurant and bar. the villa rooms are away from the main hotel and a little nicer, (well worth the few extra dollars). The best feature of the entire resort was and still is "THE STAFF" . the most friendly and accommodating I have ever encountered. The staff at Club Amigo were amazing and I can't wait to return.

Very poor place

we had cocaraches, frogs and gecos in the room, 3 days with out TV, and when TV started to work, we coundt find the remote, no internet we coudnt call Canada to inform that we were allrite, didnt have any water in the morning in the toilette, one day we coundt take a shower, no water at all. housekeeping was a bad service, forgetting mat for floor, soap, shampoo, etc., etc., one of the pools was out of service, we had no chicken nowhere in the whole 10 days, breakfast was ok but lunch and dinner [... read more] a disaster.

Worst place ever

The place is so old and rundown. There is mold in the rooms and it smells really musty. The air conditioning works part of the time and the pool was shut down more than it was opened. There was algae growing it. The food was horrible and once I saw people serving themselves with their hand at the buffet, I was done. You have to buy bottled water as there is no filtration system in the resort and no WiFi. The Cuban dollar was the same pric as an American dollar $1.37).

Resort with beautiful beach...good.

Although this is a 3 stars resort, but the beach is a 5 stars beach..white fine sand, clear water,colorful view...beautiful. Service, staff,room clean,food,drink ...overall rate 4 stars. I enjoy this holiday.

Fun times

Had a great time at this hotel. Loved the beach and the people. Only advice is to upgrade to a villa room. Still very afordable , the hotel rooms are completely claustrophobic. I also wish I spent more time outside of the resort, so take a trip to Holguin and make friends with the locals. Also go snorkeling! Gorgeous coral reefs within swimming distance . Talk to the life guards they'll hook you up. Enjoy amigos !

Amaizing resort

The Hotel is nice and clean,the food excellent,beach and pool aria nice and clean,specially the people from Hotel and Village are really nice and friendly .We are going back in 21 August for 15 days!!!!I love Guardalavaca:-)Holguin

Fun time as usual

great staff, comfortable room with a view, the new tea room is a relaxing place to get away from it all, the Ashley Café & piano bar is a great place to stop before or after dinner. beautifully kept grounds & a fabulous beach....my favourite place to go & meet up with friends and make new ones.

Exelent resort

my room was good, servis room perfect, servis bar and restorant was nice ,besch very nice,service people were very nice . i liked too much this resort. I think I 'come again there and I recoment all my frends to come and enjoi this beutyfull resort Club Amigo Guardalavaca

Meh

Parts of the hotel are pleasant. The boardwalk is nice for strolls, the beach is nice and well maintained, although the proximity to the bar could be better. In my opinion the resort is far too spread out and therefore disorganized. This was my 7th time to Cuba, my first to this hotel. The room was musty, the wall and window leaked, the cleanliness was sub-standard - this was the dirtiest room I have ever encountered in Cuba, although I go for the beach not the room. I read reviews before going, [... read more] and although I am usually pleasantly surprised the poor reviews here are unfortunately quite accurate. I personally think you can find much better hotels in the Holguin area or other parts of Cuba for not a whole lot more. I will not be returning to this hotel, however you can still relax, have a lot of fun here and meet awesome people.

Pretty vacation resort

I arrived at Club Amigo Guardalavaca at 10 pm on TMR package vacation from Montreal on 22 April 2015. About 40 guests disembarked the bus and three of the guests had not been input into the computer despite us having the hotel voucher as proof. After everyone else had been processed, it was after 11 pm when the Reception staff, 3 ladies and one man turned their attention to our dilemma. I was the last person to be served and got my room just before midnight. I was very weary, overly hot and when [... read more] I went to find my room 2099, I realized I only had my carry-on in hand. I immediately returned to Reception where I remembered leaving my black purse on the counter where Mara checked me in. I spotted my purse sitting on top of my suitcase across from Reception. The area was empty except for the four Reception clerks and a bellman who was leaning on the counter chatting with Mara. The other two ladies wore glasses and Victor was sitting at a computer by a telephone. I was relieved to see my purse and suitcase under their watchful eyes. I can banked the staff and went to my room. Reaching my room, I opened my purse to ensure that all was intact. I removed my wallet which contained my Passport, return flight ticket and currency. I came to Cuba with $180 Canadian dollars and some Canadian change. At the Holguin airport, I exchanged $100 CAD receiving $78 CUCs. My wallet has several compartments so I had a separate zippered spot for each currency and my coins. Everything was where I put it at the airport EXCEPT the four $20 dollar Canadian bills I kept in reserve if I needed to convert them later. I searched throughout my purse and wallet to no avail and concluded the Canadian bills had been removed by someone else when the purse was left at Reception. The following morning, I reported the situation to the TMR rep, Lorena. I accepted 50% of the blame for forgetting my purse at the Reception counter but very disappointed that money had been stolen. Lorena made a report in her book, apologized and agreed with me that we could not prove who stole the $80 and that was the end of the matter. The week at Club Amigo Guardalavaca was very enjoyable despite the rough start. The grounds are beautifully kept; the ocean and beach are stunning. Weekends are crazy on the beach as the hotel allows the public to sit under the shade palappas while the paying guests are left without shade. Many bus loads of people from Holguin flock to the beach for the weekends and leave their picnic garbage and empty rum bottles laying in the sand. There are no security guards on the beach to control people. Monday thru Friday, it is mainly tourists on the beach and they are more respectful of the environment than the Cuban citizens, sadly. The Bungalow section was closed leaving the Villas and Tropical section in full operation. The buffet was reduced from three to one operating which was very congested and full but enough food was available throughout the mealtimes. I could not make even one a la carte reservation because guests before me had been allowed to book up the entire week on our first day. There was only one a la carte out of three operating due to the low season. I had to change my room on day two because the air conditioner in 2099 did not work and my first night was very hot. I got the run around from Reception about changing until Maintenance confirmed to them there was no air con. The hat took till after lunch on day two. The ladies at Reception ignored me standing and waiting to be served until finally one lady told me to go see the man and pointed to Victor, who was the only staff interested in looking after me. Throughout all, I remained patient and calm but inwardly very annoyed at the extremely poor Customer Service when staff are presented with a problem. Victor, however came through and after speaking to Mail tenance, he gave me room 1073 which was pleasant, cold and comfortable for the duration of my stay at a he hotel. The nightly entertainment was very good. One evening, it was synchronizes swimming in the pool and other evenings, it was beautifully spcostumed dancers and Latin music. The disco was popular after the show until 2 am and many young people made their way there to dance. I would return to Club Amigo because the price was the best deal over the other resorts in the area and it is a very nice resort. The theft was partially my fault for leaving my purse at Reception despite only staff being in the lobby at the time I got my key to find my room and was away for 20 minutes. Be watchful of your things, have low expectations for good customer service at Reception and you will otherwise have an enjoyable vacation due to the guests you meet and spend your time with. I did have a nice week because of four friendly ladies from Montreal who were also traveling solo.

Amazing as always !

I have been to this Hotel over 25 times . I have been going since 2006 and every year the Hotel has been improving. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone . The pepole are the best part of the Hotel. Cuba is safe and fun and they all treat you like family. This is my Home away from Home. Whether I go alone or in a group we have so much fun as there is so much to do...

A great surprise

Love this resort. Food was very good,not a huge selection but everything was tasty. Great poutin. I would not suggest staying in the main building, no balcony. Rooms and grounds were always clean. Most employees were very friendly. One very grumpy old bartender at the 24 hour bar. You must say hi to Noel and Christian at the main swim-up bar,great guys. Tell them Joanne says hi.
