Great resort

This resort was great. Pro's Rooms were big and very clean Main pool was massive and family friendly Kids really enjoyed the Children's area which had many slides Buffet was good with various options for breakfast lunch and dinner We ate at the seafood and italian a la cartes and enjoyed both Entertainment was good shows for the kids were okay adult entertainment was better Con's Not beachfront:( This is something I would want however It was a family trip and not my choice Resort is way too big [... read more], lot's of walking

Beautiful resort

We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba, mayan riveria May 2016. This was my first time in Mexico and I will go again. The buffet and the al acarte great. The rooms very well kept and the staff was always cleaning.

Amazing Vacation! 5* experience for sure!

We had an amazing time at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba. The staff was very friendly, the grounds/rooms were very clean and well kept, daily/nightly entertainment was always available (and the resort was only about a 30 min drive to playa del carmen and other popular excursions) with a good variety and the food was incredible with a lot of variety as well (at the buffet and at the a la carte's- especially at the Mediterráneo, our favourite). We weren't too concerned, but we did find it a bit ri [... read more]diculous that it cost extra money for the safe. I have been to many resorts and have never had to pay extra for a safe. The pool was great and lots of activities during the day, however we really enjoy going to the beach but found there were a lot of sharp rocks in the water at the beach. Luckily we found a small area with fewer rocks. Other than that, everything was wonderful and the resort was beautiful. We had an unforgettable experience and would not hesitate to return to the Grand Bahia Principe Coba :)

Good resort

Pool and beach are very good. Food was amazing. Room was very clean. The Dolphin's show was not so good. And photos with dolphins were very expensive 80$ per 3! The Hotel is very huge. Using trail is uncomfortable. Buffet and restaurants doesn't have AC.

Great place

Location matters

Well managed hotel in general. Big property, pools, gardens, restaurants - everything clean and in a good shape, although thatch roofs do need some maintenance. Rooms - mediocre, nothing to be delighted about. Conditioners need replacement/upgrade as some are leaking, and our room in particular was really humid, i.e. AC couldn't cope with it, so I've brought all our stuff back with the mould smell. And I really do not appreciate the charge for safe usage. Hotel is supposed to have some level of  [... read more]responsibility for your belongings, since you pay for your stay to not only be comfortable but somewhat safe. Yet, you're expected to pay extra to be sure you're not being robbed while you're at the beach. And these lock boxes are not difficult to force, I'd say. Hard working and always smiling personnel, respect to all the staff members - they're definitely making this hotel better. Great food at the buffet. We were staying with kids, so we were always among the first visitors at the buffet, and food was nice and hot. Good soups and porridge, so my 1-y-old was never hungry. Decent variety of fruits and salads, roast chicken and roast beef were really nice. Not too much of grilled fish to choose from - I'd prefer more local fish rather than defrosted salmon, but fine as well. Freshly baked croissants - my compliments to the baker. Gotta mention the icecream - a real highlight of our stay. My personal dislike goes to location - too far from the beach. I prefer beachfront, and book this hotel only because our friends were going, and it's always better to travel with friends. They say, you can get to the beach in no time from anywhere... well, it's kinda untrue - you can get there from main lobby and kids pool, but be prepared to wait. The average waiting time for us at the lobby "bus stop" was 15-20 minutes. Mojitos were good, wines - hit and miss. Do take taxi and go to Akumal Bay to swim with turtles. Go early in the morning before all the other groups arrive to avoid the crowd which muddy the waters. Fantastic kids shows - dance routine, costumes, real hard work. Would not come back through no fault of the hotel - location matters for me. Iberostar Lindo is way better in this area.

Amazing Resort!

Excellent service! Wonderful staff! The rooms were nicely decorated and very clean. Lots of towels. Room comes with a fridge and a variety of drinks. The food was delicious at the buffet and at the a la carte restaurants. Lots of entertainment and activities. Easy to walk or shuttle to get around the resort. Can't wait to go back again.

Amazing but not for singles

Beautiful hotel and grounds, great people and food. Evening entertainment could be better as there is no dancing outside at all and the few that are in the lobby are geared towards older folks. A lot of weddings and couples. I do not recommend for singles. I encourage management to create some dancing for the 30-40 year olds outside a few times a week. Bars close at 10:30pn accept for the snack bar which has no atmosphere. This is a complex with 4 hotels. Tulum is somewhat more active and has a  [... read more]better bar but overall, by 11pm all is shut down in all the hotels here. Only the village square something open: the tiny disco which is mostly for 20 year olds.

COBA a Good Resort

Front desk staff were polite. Check in process was quick 3-5 minutes. Check out 1-2 minutes. The grounds were well maintained with plenty of flora and fauna. The resort is very family friendly. There is a kids water park, a quiet pool and a main pool were the animation staff conduct various activities and games should you wish to participate. The rooms were a bit dated, however, it was very clean, the bed, pillows were perfect for us, and the shower had good water pressure. The maid service was  [... read more]good. At times she made decorations or animals from the towels which she left on the bed. The mini bar was replenished every day with a few cans of beer and water and soft drinks. The main buffet had a very good variety and selection of food, even the pickiest eater will not go hungry. My wife and I ate at the Japanese, Italian, Mediterranean and Brazilian a la cart restaurants, all good. There isn't a beach at the COBA, however, if you wanted to go to the beach, you would need to take a 3 minute trolley ride which comes every 5 minutes and go to the Tulum part of the resort.The nightly entertainment shows start at 9:00 pm. We enjoyed the Micheal Jackson show and the magic show. They were not Vegas caliber, however, very good. In my opinion, the resort provides good value for your money and I would recommend it to family and friends.

Great resort

Personal safety is a going concern as we were warned by the resort staff not to book a tour unless it was booked within the resort. The grounds are clean. Great service as the ceiling fan did not work when we arrived and there was someone there for repairs within 30 minutes. There is a great variety of food to choose from at the buffet and there are many a la cart restaurants to choose from.

Decent resort

The grounds were nice, rooms were decent. The food was good as well. The resort was just a little too big for our taste. With it being so big, there's no personal touch, and you don't get to know the staff. We found lineups too long to wait for service at concierge. Also, little extra charges for the safe was unnecessary. It should be included in the all inclusive fee. That being said, the resort was nice, just not our style.

Another Great Trip

This was our 9th trip to this hotel. We are always pleased with service, beach and cleanliness. It is a little far from the airport, but worth the drive. We are already planning another trip in November. That says it all !!

Excellent Family Resort

The resort is beautiful and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Our little children loved the pools, kids club and kids shows. The food was plentiful and tasty. We had no complaints, and will return. This is a great resort for families with younger children. The little water park was a hit all week, and the kids stayed up for the kids show at 8pm every evening and loved every minute of it.

Great Family Vacation

We just spent a week at Grand Bahia Principe Coba. There were 15 of us spanning 4 generations. Everyone, young and old, had a great time. We would recommend this resort for anyone of any age. We ranged from 2 to 87. The accommodations, staff, food, pools were great.

Great resort

Staff is incredible very accommodating, we had 2 room issues one the AC was leaking 2 te toilet wouldn't flush guys there in 10 minutes to fix it both times, there is a big buffet all your usual buffet foods, when the trays empty wait 2 minutes and they have new stuff very efficient staff, the place is kept up always staff working on it its very clean. Enjoyable stay

The hotel is very nice and is part of a larger 4 resort complex. Very easy to access trolleys to get anywhere you want. We were left somewhat disappointed by the a la cartes. The buffet has a great selection. We upgraded to the Royal Golden but do not think it was worth it. The rooms were large however had a musty smell (we were on the ground floor). Was a great vacation but prefer smaller resorts.

Wonderful magical resort

I will always be in love with this resort,I first came here in 2008 just after the death of my beloved husband,I needed to get away alone for a while so the coba helped me heal from my grief. I would indeed recommend mend this hotel and do to everyone I know,it is a peaceful place for me and great place to unwind and recharge.

Good resort!

Grounds, dinning, public areas and features are excellent: welcoming, spacy, clean, relaxing. But the room: too dark, mosquitos all the time. Before trip, we were offered the junior room with two beds for two women and we paid for that. It was documented. By arriving, at the hotel reception we were informed by manager that we can have only room with king bed. It was disappointing!

Not a 5 Star Resort

- Check-in at the 'VIP' lobby was over an hour long with only one staff working. Other guests in line had been waiting for several hours for their rooms and problems to be resolved. - Bath towels were not replenished on a daily basis - they took the used ones, but would not leave new ones. Had to request the towels each time. - Mini fridge and bottled water was not replenished on a daily basis as indicated. Again, had to request for more water and snacks. If you happen to be in the room when sta [... read more]ff were coming around with snacks, they would provide you with one snack size bag of chips (we were a family of 4). Had to ask for extras. - Stayed on the main floor and had beach towels and clothing hanging to dry on the balcony. Few days into our stay, our balcony was drenched with water (not by rain or sprinkler system) but by a gardening staff watering the grass. Approached front desk staff about this and they gave me excuses then said "I don't know....I need to check", no apology or desire to resolve the concern. - Wanted to get our daughter's hair braided at the Spa - took 3 days to find someone to book, each time, we were told to book at incorrect locations. - Morning yoga was advertised at the beach, headed out one morning to the area advertised, asked several staff to confirm. Walked along the entire stretch of the beach and it was no where to be found. When the gym staff was asked later that morning, they contacted the instructor who first said that there was no yoga, then called back to state that it was located by a theatre (no where close to the beach) with 12 participants. - Buffet was hit and miss - sat in the same area for the duration of our stay and half the time, we had to look for a server to take our drink order. Food was not replenished quickly. - Shuttles to different areas and sister hotel was a disaster. No signage or communication indicating which shuttle was going where nor were there set times. When asking staff, they were reluctant to help or give detailed information. - Tried to book the free resort activities, asked front desk staff, public relations staff and tour operators, all who advised of different information on booking process. - Nightly entertainment was not entertaining at all. Definitely not the 5 star resort we were hoping to have stayed at and don't think we would stay at this chain again.

Great Resort!

Beautiful resort. Food was great, both at buffet and restaurants.Staff was friendly and helpful for the most part. Excursions were well planned. Would definitely return to coba, or one of the sister resorts that we also visited.
