highly recommend! the food was not good, but thats to be expected, everything else was fabulous, the coffee, the drinks, the beach, the pool, i recommend you bring your own thermos for the drinks. when i went in feb 2025, they did not have shortages of anything. the ice was fine to drink for us. we didnt get sick from any food we ate, it was just not good (i did stick to the basics though). we brought many snacks and ate them all lol. the best thing was the eggs in the morning. pancakes, fries a[... read more]nd pasta were okay too. everyone was super nice as well, it was a great experience.

Starfish Cuatro Palmas: First timer
I was alittle skeptical about trying another resort, I’ve been a Kawama repeater for numerous years. However I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The food was good, flavourful and you won’t go hungry. The pool was clean and plenty of seating. However I don’t recommend a room over the patio, bar. It gets noisy. All the maids were wonderful very thankful for gifts. The bartenders are great, and the Coffee is great. All in all I will return again this September 2025.

Conclusion :

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Excellent experience
14 day stay at Sanctuary. Check in was ok but arrived late so not much intro the resort. 1st room was ok but as we were there for 14 days we looked at upgrading to a room with a king bed. Best thing we ever did as our room was amazing overlooking the pool. If you have just the right amount of beer you don’t hear the party animals outside.
No power outages, no food shortages and always cold beer hot water and toilet paper.
We were not really interested in the butler service and never contacte[... read more]d them and did not really see the benefit of the premium stay so cannot comment on that.
The pool bar staff Roxana Fiallo , Judi, Jude were always very friendly and helpful so will miss them.
The only annoying part was listening to people whining about things that are not to their expectations picking the most affordable getaway and those that stuff their plate and then leave half of it behind.
Skipped the bus back to the airport and took a 1952 Ford convertible with Alex, amazing!
Would definitely go back to this resort.

“The Level” is a joke -

Melia Internacional: DONT PAY FOR LEVEL
I paid for the level thinking I was going to be in adults only. This did not happen. I was in the family level instead. I am not the only person that felt the advertising was misleading for this. Being on the Level means you have access to a 24/7 concierge. This means you can order room service and have it delivered to you free of charge. My phone did not work all week so I never did receive room service. I also did not have one drop of hot water the entire week. Every single day I went and repo[... read more]rted it to. “Jonathan”. And every single day Jonathan said he would get it fixed. This never happened. No one came to my room to fix anything, this is extremely frustrating as I was there by myself, my patio doors never locked. The first night I got there was at 10:00 PM. Nobody explained where the food courts were, where I could eat, nothing. So I did not eat until the next day when I found it on my own. My patio door did not lock. The first night I got there I went through four different rooms to try and find a phone that worked and a patio door that locked. Finally after 11:30 at night I said just put me in a room and I will take care of this tomorrow. No one ever contacted me to follow up. I figured out on my own where the eating restaurants were, but I still don’t understand why.” the level.” is so special. I paid for room service and I paid for hot water and I paid for my safety. None of these things were met the whole week. I was there no matter how many times I complained about it. In fact, I was given dirty looks as they saw me coming up the hall. I don’t think it’s too much to ask, if they cared, to follow up, as I was extremely concerned and upset at the condition of my room. Also, you’re supposed to have a person serving drinks at the beach, I was at the beach almost every day, and not one person ever offered me a drink. That also is included in. “ the level.” I will never stay at this resort again. I don’t know why Jonathan is paid to work there as he is doing a terrible job. There is an infinity pool that you are allowed to go for one hour, once per week. They explained this was absolutely a stunning experience offered with “ the level”. I went to this amazing experience and took 30 seconds to look in this infinity pool and all I saw was murky water and sand and filth. You could not even look out the glass barrier as it was so dirty. I know this sounds like I am coming down hard on this hotel, but all I want it was what I was promised. I don’t think, asking for a locked patio door, a working telephone, and I would even settle for warm water instead of hot; but I did not even receive that. My two daughters were supposed to go on a sisters trip to the same hotel on 17 April, but I told them to cancel and go somewhere else. I haven’t even heard back from the hotel as I put in a complaint. FALSE. ADVERTISING.!!!! Don’t waste your money. they have not heard the last from me.

Grand Aston Varadero Beach Resort: Grand Aston Varadero Hotel - March 27-Apr 3
I recently stayed at the Grand Aston Varadero, a beautiful and modern hotel with great potential—but a few hiccups worth mentioning for future travelers.
While the property itself is stunning, the guest experience fell short in several areas. Some of the front desk staff were quite rude and dismissive when I asked questions, especially when using a translator app due to the language barrier. Being looked at and walked away from felt incredibly disrespectful—especially when you're trying your [... read more]best to communicate in a new country.
A major concern was the strong mold smell in the rooms. As someone allergic to mold, this made the stay uncomfortable. The ventilation seemed poor, which didn’t help the issue.
On a positive note, the housekeeping staff were absolutely wonderful—friendly, efficient, and communicated well despite the language gap. Bar and entertainment staff were also personable and helpful, adding some brightness to our stay.
However, the check-in process was frustrating. We weren’t allowed to check in until after 4 PM, meaning we lost a full day just sitting around in travel clothes. Our rooms were also mixed up and assigned facing garbage areas, which the staff didn’t handle well when we tried to resolve it.
Food service was another issue. Breakfast ends promptly at 10 AM—come at 10:05 and you’ll miss out entirely. The snack bar only offered hot dogs or burgers until the full menu began again at 12:30, leaving very limited options.
Lastly, I feel the hotel would benefit greatly from a proper orientation or welcome briefing. Many guests seemed unsure of how things worked and what was available.
Overall, while the Grand Aston Varadero is visually beautiful, there are some service and communication improvements needed to make it truly enjoyable. With a few adjustments, it could be a fantastic place to vacation.

Melia Las Americas: Great resort
We've been to Cuba probably 100 times in the last twenty five years and stayed at several different hotels.
The bottom line is "you get what you pay for". This is probably a four star hotel and it has now become our favorite in Cuba. Feels like home.

Clean, well kept grounds and rooms. This is adults only but we discovered that it is a more mature crowd. Retired couples mostly. Very relaxing stay. Food was better than expected in Cuba but still rated at 3-4. We would definitely go back.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Nice Resort
We stayed in the Adults Only Sanctuary part located behind Grand Memories. Our room was perfect, the bed comfortable and our mini fridge was stocked every day. The buffet food was good and the a la carte restaurants were great! One need of improvement is having enough golf carts to take people back and forth between the 2 main buildings. There were many older couples and some others with mobility issues. It was a great week!

Resonance Musique Varadero: Nice resort
The hotel was very nice, clean, and I had no issues with my room in building 38. Lots of hot water, bottles water, wine on day two, large towels and the cleaning ladies were very nice and accommodating. Negative comments; entertainment was very repetitive and boring, music did not meet the adult only age group, shortage of beach/pool chairs, premium liquor never available, constantly running out of vodka (bring your own from duty free), bring your own condiments, bring a book resort boring durin[... read more]g the day. Positive comments; the Spa was amazing and Vickie and her team were amazing, best massage/ honey facial I have ever had, food was good, the Sunwing dinner was excellent, Sunwing Rep was very nice and at the resort everyday to answer questions and book excursions. The up grade at the airport for departures was worth the money. Between the two resorts there is a lot of walking could be difficult for people with disabilities. The only positive to upgrading to harmony would be access to all facilities.

Resonance Musique Varadero: DO NOT BOOK - False Advertisement
My husband, myself and another couple (both couples on their honeymoon) were referred Resonance Musique Varadero resort by a travel agent (Colleen Scott - TripCentral) due to the upgrades that were an option listed on the website. We ended up booking (March 24/25-March 31/25) this hotel because of all the listed upgrades (Harmony Club). Upon arrival we were very unimpressed with the "private" check-in as it was a table squished to the side of the regular check-in area. We ended up having to use [... read more]the regular check-in as there was no computer or anything at the “private check-in/lounge” for Harmony Club members. We received our warm “welcome cocktail" of Prosecco with staff that were very unimpressed to be there. We were yelled at more from staff to get out of the way then we were smiled at. We were told we do not get early check-in and would have to wait ~1hour to get our room. Our bags were put in a room that was not locked and anyone had access to including the cockroaches. After a terrible arrival experience and not at all a "private lounge/check-in" like we expected. We were already put off to say the least. We did not receive a “welcome gift” or mini snacks as the staff hid the couple pieces of what looked to be like croissants in the back room where we found them eating not long after our arrival. We finally received our room after about 1.5hours and were immediately mortified due to the amount of mould in the room. The mould extended from the room, the showers (taps included) to the safe; which was more like a living organism. The beds were broken, the linen had blood & dirt marks all over, the mini fridge was empty and was rusted out and warm, and no towels in site (beach towels or bathroom towels). We went to leave to go talk to staff about the state of the rooms when we noted that our safe did not work (not that we were using it with the amount of mould), nor did our door lock. The door could be pushed open with ease and without a key card. After discussing with staff the "exclusive residential area" we were suppose to be in with the Harmony upgrade, we were told that there is not a specific building for the Harmony upgrade and that the upgrade was "for the service not the room". We were very taken back by this as the rooms clearly show and upgraded and much nicer room when we booked. We had been switched rooms almost 4 times in one day due to; lack of cleanliness, doors not locking, toilets not working or an overwhelming smell of sewage that caused migraines and breathing problems. The only two options were to replace the linen or move to a room with two single beds. We decided if the linen was replaced and the mould was cleaned we could stay in our room - none of this was done. We decided on that option because we were on our honey-moon and not going to stay in a room where we couldn’t even sleep together; and was not any cleaner (dirty linen, warm unstocked mini fridge, mould throughout). The other couple was given another room as the mould was much worse and the blood stains were other bed. We kept on being told, “tomorrow they can try to fix it but can’t guarantee anything”. We felt very discouraged at this point and didn’t even want to be on our trip anymore as we felt like we had been wasting it trying to have basic amenities that are advertised. On top of the lack of "exclusivity" that were paid for there was no exclusive pool area with fruit/cocktail delivery, the mini-fridge in the rooms was not stocked with anything, and we had to argue with the front desk to get a bottle of water - which we never got. Needless to say the "Harmony Club" inclusions that are listed on the AirCanada Vacations website that we thought we were getting were very much not given at this hotel. Over half the list is not offered according to the staff at the hotel. To say the least the hotel should be taken off your website as both couples feel victimized and lied to regarding the vacation we thought we were booking. When our AirCanada rep arrived on the Tuesday (day after our flight) we expressed our concerns and falsified guarantees. We told him we asked to even more to the Resonance Blu as it is the same resort and another couple we met was given that option. We were met with a hard no from the resort staff as “its not the same and is completely booked out”. The AirCanada rep talked with staff and again the only response staff gave was “oh tomorrow”. We had finally had enough as we were now day two into our 7 day vacation that is being wasted. We told our rep he either needs to move us hotels or we are booking a flight home that day as we could not stay there. He was able to secure us a spot at the Grand Aston but at a $424.80 charge per room for the remainder of the stay. As well as pay for out own transportation to get to the hotel (with all our belongings). At that point we wanted out of the nightmare that we were in and left to the Grand Aston. However we could not get a room there until the Wednesday afternoon. This meant wasting another day of our short trip. By the end of the disastrous beginning we only received half of our vacation and had to pay to get out of it. After our first day (March 24, 2025) we reached out to the travel agent that initially recommended this resort via email with urgent matters and how to leave and we still have not received a response from her (April 2, 2025). This was not our first choice but we were unfortunately swayed due to the "inclusions" that were very much falsified.
This hotel will only greet you with false advertisement, little to no service, mould/blood in your rooms and broken beds. The staff were very unpleasant and will ignore you when trying to order food or drinks. The pools were not turned on during the time we spent there and the water was not circulating which caused algae and scum build-up in the pool. Staff would be working at night to attempt to find "company" for the night. We were told by the rep we were dealing with at the resort that this is a common theme that he has been dealing with when coming to this hotel and is also greeted with complaints due to the state of the hotel. Fortunately, he was able to help us move resorts for a cost. If you are looking for a poor experience, with loud music until 4am, inedible food causing food poisoning, grumpy staff, broken beds, and rooms that are a Biologist dream then this is your place.
