Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: I'd come back!

We upgraded to VIP which was a great idea because the resort was crazy busy, especially when it came to the beach!!! So I was really glad we have a private beach. The resort was crazy clean considering the amount of people that were there. I'm not going to go through every category because everything was really good and there's nothing in my opinion that I'd change or suggest that they could change! I'd 100% go back or use the same Resort in other locations!

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Beautiful Resort..

Overall the resort was great. We paid 20.00 a night extra to stay on the Adult side..well worth the upgrade. The only complaint was the resturant bookings were very late..I booked all of them as soon as I got there. There was not much entertainment in the lobby bar. Thank god the guys from Halifax were there entertaining part of the week. All in all we were pleased with our stay. Oh the other thing was I tried t get info for the golf before I left.. that I did not get. Thanks Gina

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Good resort

Very nice resort. Food at the buffet was very good, and the same for the main Don Pablo restaurant. However the Food at the Asian restaurant was awful. The beach does not have the fine white sands, and even the ocean is not clear. Friendly staff. Over all a good experience.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Beautiful resort - fairly new. Well maintained. Lots of flowering plants but only a few in variety. A few mango plants. Overall clean and good ambiance.

About 3 year old resort. Well manicured and well maintained hotel grounds. Beautiful swimming pools and good access to the beach. Man-made beach - basically corals covered with imported sand. Not clear water and there was about 30 cm (1 ft) drop in beach level (underwater) about two meters from the shore line - caught many people by surprise. We walked every day and excep [... read more]t for a few places, where the sand covering was shallow, the overall ambiance was good. Missed the blue / green water of Punta Cana. Good buffet restaurants, good service and good food. Most service staff spoke decent English. Room staff - less so. Front staff - a little less attentive. Speciality restaurants were OK - nothing outstanding. Stick to sea food. Keep away from the Sushi and Japanese cuisine (in the Asian restaurant). There were no lobsters, few scallops. Mostly shrimps and clams. Took a day trip to Santa Domingo - Older guide (kept on calling us his family - every few minutes). Well versed but had problem with his English - perhaps French was better. Not worth the 75 US$ cost.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Great resort, poor Trip Central support

The accommodations were great, the staff was friendly and the scenery was beautiful. Our only issue was with Trip Central and their customer service when we had airline problems. Resort was great, but wouldn't use Trip Central again

Weare Cadaques Bayahibe: Potential to be a 5-Star

We've been to a number of resorts, and this one has the most potential to be a 5-star getaway. The relaxed nature of this resort is mainly due to its small size, and for that you almost feel like you are a VIP for the whole duration of your stay. I'll break down a few important things to note: Arrival: They wouldn’t let you check in until 3:00pm on the dot, so if you arrive early expect to wait around before you can get comfy in your room. Fortunately you can get something to eat at the buf [... read more]fet while you wait and take a stroll around the grounds to get familiar with the place. Location: This is on a very nice strip of beach - to the left you can walk endlessly as there are no resorts that way (you can find yourself a good private beach spot). To the right you have an easy walk past other resorts, and there are some small shops on the beach where they try to hassle you to buy their paintings/nick knacks. If you’re flying into Santo Domingo, it’ll be about an hour and a half bus ride to the resort as you have to stop at a few resorts along the way (Cadaques is the last stop). This makes for a super long day of travel, so be prepared for that. Rooms: Their “king sized” beds don’t meet Canadian measurements and would equate to a Queen size – a little disappointing when you first arrive if you’re expecting a giant bed. The rooms are small, but it’s really all you need – bed, mini fridge, washroom, desk, safe, closet. There’s not a lot of closet space or drawers (not really a dresser!!), so you’ll have to get creative with your space if you have a lot of clothing. The shower was okay, and there was no bathtub in the regular suites. One complaint would be that the throw pillows smelled funny, like they hadn’t been washed or changed ever. We also had little worm like bugs on the bed, toilet paper roll, and curtains (about 8 of them).. not sure how they got into the room but it’s a Southern vacation and you should expect such things. We let front reception know about this, and they had the sheets changed immediately. A few worms came back, but nothing too much to worry about. The maids are super friendly and will stock you up nicely if you ask. Food: This is where there is a lot of room for potential. There are two main areas for you to get food: the buffet by the beach, and the a la carte restaurant in the lobby. I’ll break both of these down… Buffet – There’s a small variety of food each day, generally with one good meat, some pasta salad, and breads. I could only find vegetables one day which was a huge disappointment if you’re trying to eat a somewhat ‘balanced’ meal. The HUGE problem with the food is that there are NO heating lamps or any methods to keep the food warm once they put it out. It gets cold extremely quick, so you need to be there right when the food is made or else it ends up tasting bland. The variety was the biggest disappointment, but no one in our party got sick from the food so that was a big plus. Restaurant – hidden atop the lobby is a small restaurant with about 10 tables that can accommodate groups ranging in size from 2 to 12 people. You book your reservation on the morning of (we never had any issue finding a time). They rotate through 3 menus – Mexican, Italian and “Gourmet”. They never seem to know which menu it will be each day, but we figured out that they simply rotate these three options. The Mexican and Italian were actually both really tasty, but the gourmet was a little disappointing since it was basically all seafood (we’re not seafood eaters). They do have a small steak for the gourmet menu, which was decent. Each night we had the same two waiters, Jose and Frank – these guys are AWESOME and have a lot of fun with the guests. They certainly made the restaurant experience more enjoyable. Comparing the two, I’d say to eat at the restaurant more often than not. There’s also a small sushi restaurant that doesn’t get much traffic – our friends went there one night and said it was excellent. Swimming: They have two pools – one large infinity pool that sits in the middle of the resort that has a pool bar, and another small pool right beside the buffet/beach which no one ever enters because the location is so awkward (no one wants to swim right where people are eating..). The pool bar doesn’t receive much traffic, so you’ll get VIP service if you spend some time here. The infinity pool is very clean and great to relax in. I would suggest bringing a floaty device (tube, bed, etc) so you can relax and basically have the whole pool to yourselves! The beach is very nice (as stated above), and there is a great dock to walk out on that has lounge chairs/shady area for you to relax on before jumping into the water. The water below the dock is only about 3 feet, so it’s shallow for anyone to swim in. There is also a man-made ‘coral reef’ to the left of the dock. If you bring some bread out by this area, you will be swarmed with stripy and needlenosed fish – a really neat experience! Staff and Service: 3/4 of the staff were super helpful, friendly, and genuinely good people who want you to have an amazing vacation. They will take the time to figure out what exactly you are asking for, and be there if you need any assistance. The other 1/4 seems to not care about you, with slow service (waited on a coffee for 25 minutes!), or will try to hit on the girls in your party and stalk them outside of the washroom (super creepy). They don’t serve premium drinks, but you can make do with what they make for you. Most of the bartenders understand what you are asking, while some will just make you a drink that you didn’t quite ask for. Overall: If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway, this resort is great. Cadeques only recently became an all-inclusive resort, so they are still working out the kinks on how to operate like one. One they fix a few bugs, it’ll easily become a 5-star resort.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Great vacation

The resort was well laid out and easy to get from place to place. Two pools offer you a quiet day or a more entertaining day both with swim up bars. Overall we enjoyed this resort. Food was great. Rooms were nice, clean and spacious. Staff were great. Special shout out to Annabel and Luis. If there was a suggestion to be made it would be the service in the lounge/bars. The servers need to be more attentive, this is were there is room for improvement. I would recommend this resort.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Good vacation

Just got back April 23rd and had a very nice time. The resort was very clean and the people were excellent. Too bad for the weather having rain every day but still could be out around the pools. The only thing we did struggle with was the food. Could have been better. Fasuco the young lad on the resort was so kind to us and couldn't help us enough. Our flight on Transat as usual was excellent. All in all great vacation.

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: Good value but!

A little far from Santo Domingo but la Romana was 20 mi . Rooms ok nice bedding and cleaning staff were excellent. Free WiFi poor unless by pool at night. Don't waste money on Saona excursion unless you like 2000 people on a beach... Frank on the beach excursions is great orange hat . .Bartenders not friendly . ..rarely. Liquor quality poor..no coconut rum or rum cream. Pool and spa Jacuzzis dirty. Entertainment in lobby each night was great with a rock band on our last night. Shows exc [... read more]ellent. Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Wouldn't go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The grounds were beautiful the staff were friendly but the food was not hot , the generator was running all the time in the quiet pool we were not able to get into the ala cartes and at the quiet pool the drinks were not good compared to the other pool. The rooms were really nice but friends in our group and no hot water for showers for 3 days some of them had a fridge that didnt work I would never go back I have been to a 3-4 star that was so much better than this 5 star. Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Very nice resort

Great resort, clean rooms and lobbies. Buffet food could have different selections daily and could be hotter, good overall tastes. Al a cart restaurants had good to amazing food. Gourmet restaurant had amazing steak, cooked to melt in your mouth perfection. Wifi was off and on. Power went out 2 to 3 times per day. Quiet pool had noisey nearby deisel engine running daily.

This is our fourth visit to a Bahia Principe Don Pablo resort in the last year. The Resort is what you would expect from Bahia Principe Don Pablo. We stayed April 15-22 and stayed in building 53. A few positives: - meals at the Brazilian and Don Pablo a la carte restaurants were amazing - rib eye and tenderloin (Brazilian) and duck (Don Pablo) were some of the best we've had anywhere - it is nice they have three pool areas - the quiet pool, the party pool and Jacuzzi pool right beside th [... read more]e beach - the grounds and rooms are really well maintained and clean - lots of lounges at the beach and pools and lots of shade protection A few negatives: - checkin was 1.5 hours late and they didn't seem to have the staff to handle room turnovers to make the 3 PM checkin time - Some staff are excellent but others are almost non communicative - they do run out of certain brands or liquors as well as mixes e.g. we could get cosmopolitans day 1 and 2 and then they ran out of cranberry juice and never had it re-stocked for the balance of our trip - Internet, although free, is 'iffy'. Download speed is only .7 Mbps and up is 25 Mbps - I would not recommend the seafood a la carte restaurant. The seafood is better at the buffet - Booking a la cartes was difficult when we visited. I'd recommend jumping on the wifi when you arrive and book the restaurants using the Bahia app - Power outages happen many times daily and only for about 60 seconds each time. The diesel generator is located near the quiet pool and ran for two pf the three days of our visit - it is loud and the fumes are unpleasant - public washroom toilets are sometimes plugged but that is because guests try to flush tissue rather and put it in the garage - the beach and ocean are fine but not the what you'd find in Punta Cana - just a heads up if you're a beach lover Overall, another positive Don Pablo experience with a few hiccups. I would return.

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: Wonderful Resort!!!

This resort is absolutely beautiful......water features around resort....accommodate many wildlife features .....peacock....chickens....fish...turtles...ducks and other various birds....all friendly and love to be hand fed...nice walkways....beautiful landscaping. Pool is large with swim up bar....entertainment all day long!!! Buffet offers great selection....staff amazing!!! All a carte restaurant's offer excellent variety. Overall good resort. On the smaller size than most, but enjoyed that as its only a few minutes of walking from lobby to beach. Nice size rooms, needs some maintenance which the resort is taking care of. Beach & Pools were great. Food was ok, nothing special. I would return to this resort in the future.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Take this with a grain of salt

Our original stay was in the Royal Golden section of GBP LA Romana. Part way through we upgraded and went over to Luxury Bouganville side. Would recommend that resort over the regular GBP everyday of the week. Rooms and grounds on both resorts were very clean. Food was OK, pools were nice. Beach is surprisingly very nice. Water as most people have been saying is murky but not a big problem. The most troubling part of this trip was the HUGE language barrier that exists. We've been to close [... read more] to 10 resorts in the DR, Cuba and Mexico over the years and this was by far the worst for communicating with staff. This led to a lot of confusion, misrepresentation and perhaps some unintended dishonesty from staff. Overall it lessened the experience and would prevent us from returning to this area of the DR.

Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus: Top notch resort and service

We are a family of 4 with 2 boys travelling for March break. Overall we were very satisfied with the resort and it's management. The ocean was warm, shallow and had no seaweed. Excellent for snorkelling and waddling. Everybody at the resort was very friendly and happy to help-we never met a grumpy person. Management was always on top of any minor issues that arose. Availability of family suite (2 connected rooms and 2 bathrooms) is what made us choose this hotel and what contributed to a happy holiday, as our teenage kids had their own space. Resort did not seem very crowded despite being March break and we always found a place to sit in the shade even after 10 am. Everyday we did a different activity,we never got bored in 2 weeks, despite being a relatively small resort. Evening shows are the only thing that were really lack lustre at this resort, and you could not find a place to sit in the lobby at night to have a drink, so we just walked around instead or decided to retire early, which we have never done before on vacation. Food choices were plenty, but they seemed to lack spice or taste- but you could add your own to taste after, as a wide variety of sauces and spices was available to help yourself from. Overall very happy with Iberostar.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Great Trip

The resort is very clean and very well maintained. The bars are under staffed and lineups are constant. The food is good and the guest rooms are very nice. The GYM is very poor, outdated and small - it was disappointing and it could only accommodate 5 people at any one time and the hours of operation were very limited. The night life was very low key and low talent. Be prepared to have communication difficulties with resort staff if you do not speak Spanish. Power (hydro) outages occur [... read more]red daily and often between 4pm - 7pm. The weather was EXCELLENT 32 degrees daily under sunny skies and no rain (April 2-9, 2017).

Weare Cadaques Bayahibe: Small, quiet, perfect for families and small children!

Four (3 adults, 1 toddler) of us travelled to Punta Cana direct March 20-27. This was our second time to Dominican Republic (mostly travel to Cuba). The resort is about 45-50 minutes ride from Punta Cana airport. Upon arrival to the resort, we check in and immediately get our room. The rooms are spacious, bright and very clean. The bathrooms are clean and modern. This is a newer resort so everything is very modern. We had no issues with the safe or anything else in the room. The resort is VERY small and VERY quiet which makes it perfect for the non-partying type and those with small children. It is not a far walk to the beach/main dining area and the resort was not busy with people...so loungers at the pool and the beach were always available. The main pool is beautiful. The second pool is in a very awkward place. It is small and it is directly in front of the dining area and bar so everyone can see you swimming while they are eating their breakfast/lunch and supper... it's just a strange place to put the pool. There was one bar at the main pool (swim-up bar) and one bar by the beach. The dock is absolutely beautiful and it is the main entry-point into the ocean water for a swim. The beach itself is not the nicest beach I have seen. The shore is mostly coral rock so it is very difficult to walk into the water (Punta Cana and Cuba are not like this). The only part to get into the water from the shore is off the stairs on the dock or a tiny sandy area with no coral rocks right next to the dock. There are man made coral reefs very close to the shore so you can snorkel and see the tropical fish. We regularly took bread from breakfast and went to feed the fish to see them all come out. The food was delicious. There was plenty to choose from. However, there was absolutely no seafood. There was fish... but, there was no shrimp, squid, other shellfish. This is the first time I went to a resort down South that did not have seafood. What's up with that. Another thing was, since the resort IS small... there is only ONE main dining area (not including the a la carte). There was a day (when everyone arrived) that the line up was outside the dining area to get food. A few times on the weekend... we had to wait for a table to be able to go sit down and eat. Due to this, I think management needs to expand their dining options because I would hate to see what the dining area looks like during peak travel. Had to call the doctor since the toddler was sick from a cold and the doctor showed up first thing next morning and treated the patient. Very happy with the medical service. The resort grounds are immaculate and you can tell that the landscaping staff work very hard to keep it clean and tidy. The water park is SO fun and perfect for toddlers and older kids. The adult water slides are also super fun. The waterpark is open from 11-1 and again from 3-5! The resort gets 4/5 stars due to the dining room issue being overcrowded and no seafood!!!! I would recommend this resort to a friend but I wouldn't go back since I don't go back to the same resort twice. Maybe some time in the future.

The grounds of this resort are spectacular! Rooms are beautiful and super clean, staff was all very helpful and friendly. Buffet restaurants were all good, a la cartes could use some work. Not enough staff at pool bars, however pools were excellent and nice beach.
