Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen: Amazing resort!

I had the pleasure of speaking to O'Neil Graham who tremendously helped me out a lot to travel to Mexico by myself for the first time. He was a life saver and guided me through simple action steps on what to do since I missed my flight. Secrets The Vine Cancun: Definitely NOT a 5 star hotel

We booked at Secrets The Vine because it was listed as a 5 star hotel. However, we firmly disagree with this rating, as we would never consider this hotel to be a 5 star rated hotel because of the following: 1. Quality and cleanliness of the rooms. Mattress and bedding was of very poor quality. 2. Cleanliness of the pool and beach leaves a lot to be desired. 3. Noisy and party-like atmosphere where it is nearly impossible to find peace and quiet (a 5 star hotel should NEVER resemble a spring- [... read more]breakers hotel). 4. Persistent and pushy sales pitch that was basically force-fed to us to sell us a dubious vacation club with questionable quality and which seemed plagued with dishonesty. More importantly, this whole thing took half a day, which basically ruined the day for us. One of the few good areas in this hotel is the human quality of the majority of the staff (cafe, restaurants, etc.). These are genuinely great and valuable people. The hotel itself is "fake fancy".

Catalonia Playa Maroma: 3/5

I have been to a few resorts In playa del Carmen this was my first time at this particular resort in all my vacation was good. beach and the food were amazing other then that this resort could have more amenities to keep guest entertained. Good resort for couples but if your traveling with children this not the resort for you

El Dorado Seaside Palms: No where near 5 stars

This resort at best on a good day is a three star resort for Mexico. It is advertised as a 5 star resort on most sites likely due to the success of there hard sell tactics to get guests to buy memberships and these poor souls in tern provide these inaccurate reviews to protect their investment. We saw many unhappy guests who were savvy to the hussle and know what a 5 star resorts entails in Mexico. To be fair, most staff were very nice and each restaurant had some good dishes but they all fell s [... read more]hort from what's expected by a 5 star resort. All the rooms are dated and not being kept up. The smart tvs are not set up for Netflicks etc. And the wifi is too slow to cast etc. Our fist room flooded, the toilet and TV didn't work and our upgraded room had a better view but the jets on the tub did not work, nor did the slidi g door lock and again trouble with the TV. The food outside a few dishes was horrible, no fresh OJ ever and they try to pass off watered down juice as fresh. The entertainment was second rate and the personal concierge admitted their job is to sell guests memberships. We made the best of it but I will not cushion this review. We have traveled extensively and know what 5 stars requires. For the money you can do better without feeling hussled at every turn.

El Dorado Royale: Nice resort.

Excellent resort to spend quiet and relaxing time walking through the coconut trees. Not good for people who are looking to swim on the ocean’s beach, only swimming option is the pools, where you have many pools to choose from. All dinings were good, my only comment is on the Fuentes restaurant, where the chef teaches you how to cook your diner dishes. My complaint is on the heavy smoke in the restaurant that makes me hard to breathe and my clothes smell the smoke for days after the diner. Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Jungle paradise!

First time to the resort and loved it! The rooms are so nice, modern decor, every pathway through the resort is lush and beautifully maintained. I wanted to take pics everywhere, just so tropical and beautiful. We had an issue with our room key, they sent help and resolved it super quickly. I'm vegan and found so many delicious options at the a la cartes and buffets. Coffee is DELICIOUS (love that they can make the drinks with soy milk). We brought our own towels so that we didn't risk losing ours and paying $50 USD. We saw monkeys at the ceynote on site, checked out the dolphin show, played water polo, beach volleyball, etc etc (the pool entertainment team is the best). Had an amazing time and will definitely be back to this resort! We had fresh fruit delivered to our room, a complimentary bottle of champagne- really made us feel special. Felt totally safe with all the precautions the resort takes for Covid (mask requirement at meals, staff wearing masks, tables and rooms marked as sanitized, hand sanitizer available throughout the resort etc). So many good things to say about this resort!

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Amazing resort!

We were very pleased with our stay in Riu Palace Costa Mujeres. The food is excellent and hotel is very very clean and maintained well. The staff did a great job keeping our room clean and organized everyday. I only have one concern with the entire stay. I returned home with bite marks on my leg. Not sure if this is something I caught from bed bugs or if it was something else. Other than that it was 5 star all the way.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: A place to relax

This was our second time at this resort. The last time was in 2016. This time was much the same. Although there are some things that were different that the resort had no control over like the massive mounds of seaweed on the beach and bad weather ( only 4 days). We appreciated how hard they worked to remove the seaweed every day. Some days it seemed like a losing battle. But when there is no seaweed event the beach is one of the best anywhere, and the snorkeling is so awesome here! The safe was temperamental at times and they sent a repair guy one day. It worked as long as you don’t rely on seeing the numbers on the digital window, so we managed. No big deal. The food is really great and the staff are amazing. We would recommend this resort and will probably return.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Excellent resort!

Stylish. Convenient. Clean. Friendly staff. Exquisite facilities. Beautiful beach and Dolphinarium. Very good for families with children. Everyone can find something to do there. Truly enjoyed the stay.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Beautiful huge resort

The food was amazing although we were only there a short time for business so we ate at the buffet. Room service was excellent and prices were very reasonable All the staff were very polite and professional, from lobby to security The grounds are beautifully manicured and well kept The room was an amazing surprise for the size and decor. Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great Value and great staff

We travelled to BBGE in early June 2022 so it wasn't as busy as it could have been in Feb-March. PROS: Some of the best staff I've ever met. Food was really good. Steaks were top notch. We ate at the a-la-cartes every night except for day 1. Pool was large and beautiful. Never a problem finding a pool or beach chair. Room was comfortable and cleaned daily as expected. CONS: No lobby bar. Sports bar was lacking atmosphere. No swim-up bars, but beach/pool bars were close by. Long walk from [... read more] lobby/restaurants to most rooms. We went to the gym several times at 7am and there was no air conditioning and often no water or towels. Some days it was difficult to work out. We really enjoyed our trip and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the resort. Nothing is ever perfect but most everything was pretty darn good and that's what I expect from my resort. NOTE: At this time of year seaweed is accumulating on the beach daily and there were bulldozers and trucks hauling it away. Some days it was still good to be on the beach and we swam often. This was just a minor inconvenience due to the time of year we travelled. I think that in the busy season this beach would be awesome as it is much larger than other resorts in the area.

Riu Palace Pacifico: Amazing resort

We had a great experience and loved everything at the Palace, including our experience with Saskia Singh at Tripcentral and Sunwing. It is a beautiful and luxurious hotel. From the adults perspective, I really liked the smaller scale resort and the opportunity to have connecting rooms, so we could have access to the kids but still have our privacy. Food was excellent with great available options for food and drinks - all high quality. The service and cleanliness were also superb. We really l [... read more]oved all the specialized restaurants, the Mexican was my daughter's favourite, my son gravitated towards the steakhouse with their 12oz offerings of ribeye and New York steaks. Everyone was really attentive and focused on making our stay fantastic. No mosquitos or bugs of any kind, a fresh breeze from the ocean was the best. Entertainment was good with the Michael Jackson show and the Mariachis being the highlight of the selection. The Riu party on the neighbouring Jalisco resort on Friday, was good and really well organized, as they were shuttle busses every 15 minutes back and forth from the Palace and the Vallarta resorts. We also ventured on several walks along the beach and the close by town of Bucerias - very safe, nice and friendly. The beach was good and very, very clean. Many people enjoy the swimming here, but still not my kind of beach. I come from the Caribbean and the Pacific side is a different experience altogether. Our kids (14 and 17) felt the resort was on the small side with a single pool with no walkouts to the pool, but they really had opportunity to relax and unwind. They also missed having a specialized Italian restaurant which is a staple in pretty much every single resort we have been in, but there was a tremendous selection of foods, specially beef, pork and seafood (so much quality seafood) - no drumsticks and thighs, only chicken breast on the menus for the chicken lovers. Overall, one of the best resorts I have been in. We would come back in a heartbeat.

Riu Flamingos: Great Resort

We just got back from a week at Riu Jalisco. Positive comments: Great food, great staff, very clean and beautiful grounds. Only negative was going this time of year, there were alot of people so hard to get a table and get drinks at the bar. But otherwise, really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Would not go back if you paid me

I will start with the positive: I was out of Canada and in the beautiful Mexican sun with friends. Cons and my experience with this hotel: Staff: I found many of them to be moody and not so helpful however of course not all. Rooms: nothing special but was just ok Pool: it was often dirty Room service: there isn’t any which was an issue and will explain below Beach: out of 10 days we had just one where there wasn’t an extreme amount of seaweed. I was gross! Food: buffet  [... read more]was decent but repetitive and felt I was eating same food everyday Hotel service: horrible- my 2 yr old broke a glass in room and it accidentally shattered so I quickly called front desk to ask to have someone clean it up. They said 10 mins max. And so we waited and called again and got same response and after 6 x calling and me getting very upset someone finally came which was an hour and a bit later. Kids indoor playground: I was initially pleased but if there is a rainy day and you need the kids to go there to play your out slot luck cause it’s only available to kids in the scheduled camp. Here we s my horrible experience: My 2yr old on my 7th day at resort developed a high fever. He was really hot so we called dr on-site and she was very worried as his vitals were not good and his fever was worrisome high. We had to bring him to hospital to possibly get intervenous if fever didn’t go down. It was horrible. Turned out he contracted a bacterial infection from the resort (her words) and he had sores down his throat and he was in a lot of pain. It was so scary to helplessly watch him and see my 8 yr old be scared for her baby brother. Now with that all said I went to general manager the next day and complained about this and explained that because he was in so much pain and still had fever and out of respect for other guests we couldn’t bring him in restaurant crying.. we were not allowed room service, or take food from buffet to our rooms, nothing so he basically could not eat cause we couldn’t get him food or us unless we took turns leaving. I complained that he either got infected from indoor playground or pool area and he did not care at all! He offered me a 25$ cabana! I was insulted that as my son was crying in my arms from the pain he did not care at all. And he said and I quote “It’s not my problem lady!” I was in shock and unbelievably upset for the lack of compassion for my son’s condition and what we were going through. He began to say I told front desk we left resort for day excursion which was a complete lie! That week we were all trapped in lobby due to the strong rain pours all day and night. We never left the resort except going to hospital. In addition to him making up that we left resort, he blamed my son getting the infection off site! I just could not believe my ears! Such a heartless person that was not even able to look into my eyes as I was on verge of tears for my son, my families experience and the lack of care from this resort manager and the resort. I tried talking to conceirge but she kept saying they had rules. I’m sorry but what rule cannot be adjusted to help a sick child that was in such need. The last three days were horrible as I was fighting with them to help me. No one should go to this resort because in times of emergency they will not care at all. And if you are will small children and in a foreign country with no one willing to help you it’s a horrible experience.

Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas: Boring Palace

When we arrived at the hotel from the airport we checked in we asked for a bellhop we waited didn’t get any and we had to pull our own bags to our room and my husband and I are both handicap we were given a room closer to the elevator which was great which is what we had asked for. When we got to the room we learned that our coffee table as well as our washroom door were really really dusty there was supposed to be a little something for our 25th anniversary in our room as our children had arr [... read more]anged for it prior to the trip and there was nothing there the food is not the greatest. On 1 of the days I asked to get a burger well done (in the main buffet) and I was flat out refused because they were closing in 20 minutes. The food was way better at Santa Fe when we visited los Cabo since I had stayed there the last time they claim to have Indian food which was hardly Indian food it was disgusting to be honest it would give it a zero stars. the service in the lounge in the lobby bar area there was this one lady I couldn’t catch her name as many times as I tried but she’s the only one who wears the orange sparkle eyeshadow in that vicinity that woman has an attitude problem I needed a straw for my drink and she had an issue with that as if it was coming out of her salary. Masks still had to be worn in the buffet areas. The staff at this resort were not as friendly as the staff at other resorts but that’s probably because they are required to wear a mask in 30 degree weather. I felt so bad for them. Honestly, I will NOT be returning to this hotel again. This is not the RIU Palace it was 7 years ago. This place is for older people there’s nothing happening at the Palace. And the staff really need an attitude adjustment. Luis who was working the front desk was the only 1 person who was very helpful. The hotel didn’t have signs notifying the program of the day as you usually see at other resorts. There were a couple of screens there that were supposed to provide that information but that was useless. Overall, not the greatest trip …. Certainly NOT heading back

Atelier Playa Mujeres: Beautiful Resort - Very Luxe Vibes

The resort was a little far from the airport, but well worth it! Upon arriving to the resort, we were greeted and oh my gosh the lobby was breathtaking - the decor was superb, there was a live band playing and it smelt heavenly like a spa. For the most part, there were friendly staff members (minus a few that were rude). Food was good and I absolutely loved the smoothie/juice bar that was across from the gym. Riu Dunamar: Be warned

Grounds are kept clean constantly. The food is mediocre and never changes. My disappointment was in the pool bar. They would literally recycle plastic cups and reuse them for shots and drinks. By recycle I mean they would dump the used cups in a sinks and rinse them quickly with water and reuse them. The alecarte restaurants were terrible food, stick to the buffet. The resort does not have small bills for usd and when you convert, you only get Mexican pesos. It was a real struggle finding chan [... read more]ge for tips.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Beautiful tropical gardens

The grounds were beautiful with tropical green vegetation and exotic birds. The buffet food was decent and a great variety. The main disappointment was the beach. Too much seaweed and unfortunately we went at the end of May and had rain and clouds for the most part of our stay. Thankfully we were with a bunch of great friends and made the best of it at the lobby bar.

Secrets Playa Mujeres: Disappointing

The beach was amazing - beautiful white sand, warm water and it was easy to find chairs on the beach. The hotel rooms were typical of Secrets. The food was average except at the sister resort next door. The drinks were abysmal for a Secrets resort. I’ve visited other Secrets resorts and the quality was much better.

Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres: *Beautiful Resort!* *Detailed Review*

I will be giving our detailed review, it's a bit long but I believe it could be helpful! :) We went 8 days in May 2022 and stayed at Grand Palladium The Resort and our experience was overall pretty amazing. The premises are new since resort was built in 2018 if I'm not mistaken and there is constant maintenance happening. ROOM: Our room was really nice, we got the junior suite with garden view , very spacious, nice closet, with hair drier, jacuzzi bath tub, shower, seating area,  [... read more]couch, TV with movies and room service menu ,king bed, balcony with 2 chairs and a table to spend some time outside. we didn't care much for the view since we spent most time outside the room, if you pay a bit more you get a better view. Room had good AC, they refill your fridge everyday at no extra cost. The only complaint we had of the room is that they gave us an interconnected room , where you could hear EVERYTHING, and on the other side was a big family ( we also have kids we know and understand, BUT we wanted some quiet time ), at the front desk they were very understanding, helpful and gave us a different room at no cost and no hassle. Also be aware the floors in all rooms are tile, EXTREMELLY slippery so wear slippers at all times, especially coming out of shower. POOL: --The Main pool was great, spacious and always had shade for us, It has one bar inside the water and one outside, both were great as well with great service ,the staff around the pool were always asking if we needed anything. There is a small buffet by the pool with finger foods, which is very helpful since the 2 main buffets available at the resort are far from the pool. BEACH: --The Beach is Beautiful, only a TINY bit of seaweed, ocean was a bit aggressive because there had been a few storms the days before, we were told the ocean its pretty calm otherwise, but we still went into water and enjoyed it. A bit harder to get a chair with shade unless you go early in morning I'm guessing .its a pretty long beach, you can walk either way and get your steps in lol and it also had a little spot with some finger food or one of the main buffets is by the pool so no problem there. MOVING AROUND RESORT : The resort its PRETTY big! they have golf carts with drivers running around all day all over the resort, starting at 7 am to drive people around. You just hop in, ask where you want to go and they take you anywhere, but there were none running late at night after 11PM I would say. I like walking and after a few days figured our way around the resort. FOOD : --They have 2 main buffets. both have different schedules: one by the beach with less selection of food and less seating space ( but useful if you spend the day at the beach), and the other buffet is by the Lobby ( so both are in opposite places of resort ) , LOTS of food selection in my opinion and more seating space then in the one by beach, never had to wait to get my food or to be seated .Both have chefs cooking the food as you ask it so pretty fresh and also food that is already cooked. There is another small buffet by the pool, with burgers, hotdogs and finger foods. --There is many a la carte restaurants, only went to the Italian and Japanese and both were great ,and heard all the other ones were good as well. ( just recommend to do the reservations as soon as you get your room number especially for the Japanese Teppanyaki tables as they book REALLY fast ) --And there is a "sports bar" that is open 24/7 for the late food cravings in the "village mall" with a nice vibe , with foosball tables and pool tables. ADULTS ONLY/FAMILY SELECTION --Inside of the same resort they have TRS section, its adults only with their own pool and special services, and then family selection with their own pool as well and different accommodations for families, if you book your room at Grand Palladium you WILL NOT have access to all those specific areas, so something to consider. 'VILLAGE MALL" --They have the "village mall" inside the resort , with a few shops and that's where all the a la cart restaurants are located, the theater is also there where all the night shows ( different theme every night with dancers) for kids and other shows happen, and also they have an "open sky" bar where a DJ comes after 10 PM if you want to dance and enjoy until 1 AM. SPA -- We went to the spa to get a couples massages and use the hydrotherapy pools and it was a really good and relaxing experience as well! (we got a coupon otherwise its pretty expensive) we would totally recommend it! TOURS they offer many different tours, with different companies, so there are many options to choose from. We went to "Isla Mujeres" , had a blast but suffered from what we and the Doctor think of Heat Exhaustion after the trip on the boat, but still managed to enjoy the rest of my stay as much as possible! NOW THE ONLY recommendations I would have for the Resort, would be : - to provide an Optional Full TOUR of the resort once you arrive since most of the time you have to wait anyway for your room (which I've had in other resorts) where they could show you the premises, restaurants everything else to do, where to go eat etc, and also what NOT to do , what might be common sense to some common travelers it's not for people who don't travel often and want to take advantage of every second you have on vacation! It might be helpful to know to take breaks during the day from the heat and sun to avoid heat exhaustion ( actually I did get sick myself with heat exhaustion and spoke with other people at the resort suffering from the same) ,saw some pretty bad sunburns and quit a few poor little kids sick and upset from all the sun exposure and tropical heat. They have a doctor on site but again if the resort provided a WELCOME tour with all the info necessary to enjoy the resort and avoid getting sick it could save travelers time and money! -Also if the resort could allow early check in , even if it would have an extra fee, we had to waited 5 hours to get our room, 5 wasted hours without a welcome tour so didn't know what to do, where to go and also we were really tired since our flight journey started at 2 Am, so we asked and there was no option of early check in not even at an extra cost, something we would probably have paid and we saw a LOT of people hanging by the lobby for many hours since their flights were early as well and didn't know what to do, so early check in should be an option. -- I also believe the Resort as of now is short staffed , so we were told by some nice workers from the resort, so some services by the pool and other places may be a bit slow but the service was amazing from our experience! We would Totally recommend this resort to others and hope to go back to Mexico!
