Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Loved my Stay
I stayed at the Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya January 14 to the 21st 2019.
I am a service orientated kind of guy. Love good service. I would have to say my stay here was beyond a doubt the best service I have ever received at a resort. The staff was consistently perfectional and very polite. I found the staff to be genuinely kind people by nature. They would not hesitate to go above and beyond for any requests I would have or questions. The thing
that stood out to me, was they sincerely enjo[... read more]yed their jobs. Can't say enough good about the wonderful service here.
The resort itself is beautiful, spread over a large area. Plenty of activities to explore and do. My room was spacious and well appointed. First time I have ever thought to myself the room looked better in person than the pictures from their website. Pools spread out the resort, nice beach area as well.
The food was delicious. They have a good central smorg area and I would safely say there would be something to please everyone. Plenty of ala cart restaurants to choose from as well. Thought it was great. Plenty of selection.
I seen some local wild life through out the resort. Loved that. Seen some agouti, racoons, tropical birds, iguana's, coati and if you keep your eyes open in the trees very possible you will see some spider monkeys. Good snorkeling in the beach area as well.
I would say my visit here was as close to a perfect vacation as it gets for me. I also would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone considering this place. I'll be back...

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Amazing resort!!
I was very impressed with the resort and the beach .No fighting to find a lounge chair to sit at the beach or the many pools. .The food was fabulous and plenty of restaurants to chose from .I loved the eco friendly feel of the place with lots of green floral around .Also they did have plenty of palm trees for shade on the beach.
I did go scuba diving on this trip and found the dive crew friendly and had a very nice dive .I will definitely go back .

Grand Palladium Colonial: Second time here and it is even better then our first visit!
We decided to return to a Palladium resort as they always exceed our expectations. We previously stayed twice at the Palladium in Punta Cana and it fulfilled all our desires. A friend recommended the Palladium in the Riviera Mayan. So we booked at the Kantenah section and it was just perfect. This year we decided last minute. We wanted a Palladium resort and wanted to use the Hamilton airport to avoid Toronto. This time we stayed at the Colonial section. Last time we were really impressed,[... read more] this time we were blown away. The room was large and included a cozy king size bed. The meals were delicious. I thought the meals rivalled any meal on a cruise ship. The workers couldn’t do enough for us whether we tipped or not. There is a lot of walking because this is a large complex. Most of the walking areas are covered and well lit. We spent most of the time at the beach, but there are many pools. Although we are retired, we did notice that there was a fun club for the kids. The pool area for the little ones was amazing and well used. My only complaint was the fruity drinks. It seems like they used crystals instead of real juice. All in all this was a fantastic vacation and I will continue to book with the Palladium chain. Thanks Victoria at Tripcental for taking care of us.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Fantastic visit
Just got back from a 1 week visit to the Barcelo Maya Caribe Resort. We had a great time and would probably go back again. During the week we visited, the hotel was sold out because of a big concert/festival going on from Thursday to Sunday. The concert stage was set up at one end of the beach and the bands started playing from about 7-midnight. You could hear the music playing at the hotel, but it wasn't overly loud. The only drawback to having the concert going on was that the nightly en[... read more]tertainment got moved from the theatre to the Maya Mall for 3 nights which did not have great acoustics and therefore the the music/singing was uncomfortably loud and unfocussed. There weren't a lot of people in the audience because most of them were down at the concert. The great thing about this visit was that since everyone was at the concert, there was no issues with booking the a la carte restaurants at reasonable times! The a la carte restaurants were all great. We visited the Seafood, Italian, Steakhouse and Japanese restaurants. The buffet was like all other all inclusive resorts - a good selection and if you are not too picky, you could always find something to eat. We had some issues with the rooms (toilet leaking water, sink faucet was not tightened down so it was wiggly) and it took about 3 days to get it fixed, but Sunwing and the hotel was very good to deal with and in the end, Christian, the assistant manager, met with us and apologized in person and then upgraded us to the Premium level which gave us some extra perks that we appreciated! The resort itself is beautiful and very well kept. There were never any issues with getting loungers at the pool or the beach and they never ran out of towels. The fitness center and spa were beautiful and it was great having the Maya Mall on site. The venders are not too pushy so it was pleasant to walk around stalls. There is no casino at the hotel anymore, even though it is advertised in the brochures. All of the employees at the hotel were friendly and helpful. Shout out to our waiter Raquel Torrez Vidal and Roberto Olvera(manager) at the Traitoria Ristorante for making my birthday dinner extra special! Overall we had a wonderful visit! Thank you Barcelo Maya Caribe!!

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Pretty Nice Resort
Resort was clean, people were friendly. Cleaning staff were amazing with the full on clean they did of our room every day. Mini Fridge was stocked daily with plenty of water and other options for drinks Didn't like being bombarded with Time Share people the minute we hit the ground at the airport and again at the hotel. Food was good, beach smelled bad but the water was warm. Hotel should wash/disinfect bar glasses instead of dipping them in dirty water. Bartenders should stop pouring alcoh[... read more]ol down tourists throats. Seen a lot of people get hurt, falling down drunk and passing out where they shouldn't be passing out. Be careful of golf carts as they go too quickly down paths. Party pool was fun, but preferred the quiet pool.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: We love this resort!!
This was our 3rd time to the Grand Sirenis and it hasn't disappointed yet. The newly renovated rooms give the resort a fresh look. The beds are super comfortable. The food is fantastic. If you are a BBQ lover, I would suggest hitting the beach BBQ for lunch.
The entertainment staff is some of the best I have seen at any resort. The shows are fantastic. I also enjoy the weekly market. There is always something going on. There is a quiet pool, I am not sure what goes on there. I walked by it [... read more]a couple of times, it is pretty quiet. A daily visit to the lazy river is a must. If you are a bigger person such as myself, I would suggest taking your own floaty.
As special shout out to Gil of the entertainment staff and Oscar at the swim up bar. You guys are awesome. Thanks for keeping me going all week. You guys do a great job.
The grounds of the resort are well maintained. The rooms are a little outdated but clean.
The resort is on the smaller side, most of the restaurants are in the same area.
There is tons of chairs beside the pools and along the beach.
The beach area is small and because of the location you can't go for a long walk on the beach.
There is two buffets, one indoors and the other open.
Both serve most of the same food with a few different dishes.
They only had one theme night where some dishes we[... read more]re different.
We did four of the restaurants, Mexican, Italian, Japanese and Steak. The Japanese and the Italian were the best.
They had a different band every night that played in the lobby bar before and after the main show.
Friends of ours used the kids club which they really enjoyed.
The margarita were delicious!
They crepe and the food trucks were good lunch options.
We used the bicycles on site to go to the marina that has a Dolphin center.
The mini golf and tennis court were decent and the sports bar was fun with all the games.
It was a relaxing vacation!

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Highly reccomended!
This hotel is fantastic! The food is incredible. There was no dish we tried that anyone didn't enjoy thoroughly. Everyone that works here is friendly and accomodating. They keep this place very clean and are always working to improve things. The entertainment staff is wonderful and there are many different activities you can join in if you desire, but there are also many quiet spots in the resort that you can go to where you can be poolside without others around.

Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya: Very pleasant resort
Pros:
Very nice hotel. Grounds were well kept. Rooms were adequate although walls are paper thin. Dining was the highlight of this hotel. Food & service were excellent. Staff are very well trained. Enjoyed the hotel's entertainment.
Cons:
Music around pool and activities was very loud. "All Inclusive" allows for too much alcohol consumption which tended to create a loud and obnoxious environment. Alcohol service should be limited or refused to individuals who are inebriated. There are reaso[... read more]ns that responsible Provinces do not allow service to intoxicated patrons.

Paradisus La Perla Adults Only Riviera Maya: FOOD POISONING-VIOLENTLY ILL-HOTEL COULD CARE LESS
We have just arrived home after a horrible stay at Paradisus La Perla.
On Wed night we ate at a restaurant Bana Fusion, in which two hours later we were both violently ill until 4 am the next day.
Luckily we met a nurse from Ontario and called her room and she came straight away with medication and ran out and bought us Gatorade.
We alerted the hotel front desk and customer service but never heard from them.
We were feeling better 46 hrs late and then ate at a restaurant The Grill and once a[... read more]gain was up all night ill.
From there on in all we ate was a banana, dry toast and water.
When we checked out the hotel did not inquire into our stay, they just passed up a piece of paper with a sad face or happy face on it and asked for our room and name.
We were totally appalled at their lack of professionalism.
This is hotel is marketing itself as a high end resort and part of a hotel chain which prides itself on customer service.

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Great time at Sandos Playacar ...except....
First the bad...
We read that the resort had bicycles. We love to ride and looked forward to riding a lot.
Unfortunately, the bicycles are terrible !!
They all have very small frames, so the seat has to be jacked up very high. The bars are very low, so the resulting ergonomics are extremely punishing. So much so that we could only ride a few minutes before it was painful. We are not large people. I'm 5'8" and my girlfriend is even shorter. So forget riding any distance if you are any bigger t[... read more]han us.
We thought that we would use the bicycles in the gym, but there was NO bicycles in the gym. Unbelievable !! There were stationary bicycles in an area devoted to spin classes but we were not allowed to use them unless we were there at a specific time for a class. This was very disappointing.
Also, at every resort we have stayed at over the last 5 years, water peddle boats were available. NOT HERE.
So no luck trying to get any bicycle exercise. This is important for me as I have
bad knees.
Now the good...
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this resort. First time in Mexico for us.
The food was great. We found the serving staff to be friendly and enjoyable to talk to. The large beach area was kept clean by a machine that cleaned the sand every morning before sunrise.
Went to one show, Michael Jackson tribute. Very good !
We spent a lot of time using the watersports equipment. We enjoyed using the kayaks, but the big hit for us was learning how to sail the Hobie Cat Catamaran.
After a short lesson from Gilberto I was able to sail confidently. My girlfriend and I spent a fair amount of time sailing in the beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean. This was heaven !!
Can't say enough about the great watersports staff that we spent a lot of time with on the beach. They were very friendly towards us. We felt they were taking good care of us and watching out for our safety.
Hats off to the watersports crew... Armin, Jorge, Gilberto, and Marcello. You guys are the BEST !!

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Great Vacation!
The Royalton Hideaway Cancun was great! The adults only section was great and you could get everything you need without mixing with all the families on the other side of the resort. The room, the restaurants, the shows and the STAFF were awesome. I don't think I got up for a drink once! The ONLY downside to this resort is the beach. The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great beach!
I think the beach and the mangrove forest with the monkeys was the best part of this resort. The resort had some sandbag berms installed about 50m into the water, trapping the sand, which made the water pristine baby blue and clear, which the rest of the beach beyond the resort, did not have. Also this time of year (early Jan) the pool water was cool and the ocean a lot warmer which made the beach more attractive than the pool area.
The food at breakfast and lunch I would say was average 5* re[... read more]sort food. The beach burger bar burgers were really good tho. The meals at the restaurants in the evening was absolutely excellent (especially the Italian and French restaurants). The Mexican restaurant was very good too. Thai was below my expectations as it didn't taste at all like typical Thai to me.
The service at this resort was also below my typical experiences at a 5 * resort. In my 5 days there, the maid service was inadequate (a dirty rag was left behind, not enough fresh towels were restocked and neither were enough water bottles provided for 3/5 days I was there) - it was however a clean (and new) room I stayed at so I was happy about that. I would have liked to have better cleaning service though for the price I paid to be there which was far above what I normally spend for a 5* in Mexico.
Also, I found it surprising that not everything was all inclusive in this "all inclusive" resort. Again, for the money it cost to be there, I would have thought that "all inclusive" means all inclusive and that a fresh coconut at the beach shouldn't cost an additional $5US. That's just a rip off! Neither should the beds under the canopy's by the pool area cost extra to rent. That's just nickel and diming tourists. I've never seen this before at other 5* resorts. Disappointing extra costs.
Upon check out I was also not told that if I didn't return the resort bracelets they tag you with for the stay, at check out, I would be charged an additional fee. I thought that having to pay that would be outrageous especially given how expensive this resort is.
If you have lots of money to spend this place is pretty good but I wouldn't peg it as that much better than other places I've been.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Beautiful, Relaxing Vacation
This resort was absolutely beautiful with the walking paths, animals, and foliage. The staff was always cheerful and helpful, and we found the food to be superb (especially the international buffet!). The only complaint we had were the pillows were not very comfortable, but it wasn't really enough to complain about. But the small shopping centre was a lovely short walk away.
