Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Wonderful resort!
I would definitely recommend this resort. It has something for all ages. The rooms were good, the grounds and public areas very well maintained, and the entertainment excellent. The staff in all areas were very friendly and accommodating. The beach area was wonderful. I liked the fact that there was a higher location to sit as well as on the main beach. The only reason I rated the resort good was because of the food, otherwise it was excellent. Although the buffet was more than adequate in its s[... read more]election, the taste was not the best. The chicken was excellent but the meat tough. A lot of greasy foods too. I did like the fact that one could have fresh food cooked to order though, e.g. eggs, pasta, meat, rice dishes, shrimps (and they were delicious!) We enjoyed the different restaurants available, the best being the Italian, not only because of the food but the staff were superb. Finally, would like to see an ATM on-site in the future rather than having to bring cash or credit card.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Decent resort
The beach was beautiful and the pools were nice. The food is very bland. We seen over 5 cockroaches at the resort including one in our room. Asked for someone to come kill the cockroach and it took 45 minutes for someone to arrive. By then the cockroach had hidden away. We asked to switch rooms and were placed in a smoking room that was full of spiders. Most of the service people were friendly and the resort is decent. Overall not a bad resort, however, I personally wouldn't recommend it for the[... read more] price we paid.

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: Away from winter blues!!!!
This was by far the cleanest resort we have been to In Cuba (over 20 times to different resorts, all categories). It helps that there are enough waste recepticles. The men cleaning the grounds are extremely unobtrusive. Unfortunately, it was quite windy the ten days we were there, so we spent very little time on the beach (although it is amazing, and the water is nice for swimming). The pool area was nice and secluded, enough lounge chairs. Rooms were spacious and clean good matress. Trip to the[... read more] airport somewhat long (over two hours on the way back in morning "rush" hour. Overall a good vacation.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Great choice for a quiet Cuban getaway
Beautiful quiet resort. A bit remote so if you want lots of activity or day trips this may not be a great choice for you. But, if you want a beautiful white sand beach with a smooth, shallow entrance to amazing blue water - then come here! Great for a relaxing, sit on the beach and read a book (I got through 4 novels in 10 days) vacation!
Food was good by Cuban standards. The best a la carte was Italian. Don't even try Romantico - it was terrible! Breakfast omelet bar was good and they will do f[... read more]ried eggs as well - however you want them. Go to the snack bar for lunch. The Pizza's are good here. Breads and baked goods all around where fantastic.
Pool in December was cold - the ocean was warmer !
The lounge chairs by the pool are very comfortable and lots of options for shade or sun - whichever is your preference.
Warning to parents - the kids wading pool has no shade. But other pools have shallow options that you can probably work with.
Rooms are large and very nice. Bathrooms are modern. Water was hot and water pressure was great. Satellite TV with HBO and a couple of other English stations. Enough to give you entertainment before bed or in between the Beach and Cocktail hour. :)
Internet is only available in the Lobby and is very sporadic (no internet cards available the first two days at the resort, then Wi-Fi was down for another day) so if you need to keep in touch with the office or your family then before you leave home buy a roaming package for your phone. I had no trouble connecting in my room using Roaming (and luckily I bought a package before I left).
Great value if you get a good deal. WestJet was awesome!! (as usual)

Memories Paraiso: Excellent resort
Over the last 14 years my wife and I have travelled all over Cuba. We have embraced the beautiful people and culture on and off the resorts. We found Cayo Santa Maria a few
years ago and fell in love with the location and stunning beaches. This time we brought our Grandaughters along 14 and 16 for the experience they will never forget. Having always booked with Tripcentral we deceided to stay at the Azul Memories Paraiso with the girls in the next room. It was a great choice, great entertainment[... read more], good food selection, awesome staff, well kept clean rooms and of course excellent beach. There is a few staff who made our trip exceptionally personable a huge thank you too Greta in the buffet, Yni and Eldys at the Italian a la carte. Also the amazing crew of the Fenix catamaran excursion highly recommend!
We will return and I'm sure from what the girls experienced they will too.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Blown away at our arrival!
We travelled from Nov 24 to Dec 8. The cost for the two week hotel was a bargain. The travel time from the airport was two hours. We were blown away at our arrival. The hotel is beautiful; French designed, modern, spacious, beautifully furnished. Check in was a breeze, efficient and quick.
Our rooms were in block 26, centrally located. The rooms are bright, modern, large. We had the garden view. I did not feel compelled to upgrade to oceanview for sleeping arrangements. The king size bed was ver[... read more]y firm. The pillows are flat and very hard. I would recommend bringing your own if comfort is an issue. The rooms have no clocks. The voltage is 220, bring an adaptor if you have special needs (breathing apparatus). The bathroom has dual voltage in the hair dryer plug. The A/C works very well and cools the room very fast. The shower is large. The shower head has good pressure. There is also a hand held shower wand.
The beach is beautiful, with white sand. I did not find the entrance to the beach tricky as others have commented. It is not good for people with any walking disabilities. There is no wheel chair access. The water is clear blue and shallow. It is a long beach for walking. It is not a wide beach from the water to the cabanas. The hotel did not groom the beach of the seaweed. It would look so much better if it was raked daily. It would take four people, half hour in the morning.
Getting a cabana in the beach is not an issue as the hotel is not operating at full capacity; not sure if this will become a problem. The chairs in the beach are hard and uncomfortable...I would recommend bringing a yoga mat or air mattress. There are two beach bars in the beach with a bartender servicing the beach. I would also recommend bringing a water bottle from home for easy refill of water or beer. I dont like drinking out of the flimsy plastic glasses.
Getting clean beach towels was a big issue. In the 14 days we received clean beach towels 3 times. I mentioned this to customer service, and they were aware of this. They subcontracted the towels to an independent company...they could not or would not rectify the problem.
The pools are stunning. The chairs are more comfortable than the beach. There is lots of shade and sunny areas. They need to play some good Cuban music vs the elevator music.
The food was definitely better than I anticipated. I cannot justifiably compare it to a Secrets or Paradisus resort...as we did not pay the same cost. You will not go hungry...there is plenty to eat. I had some really good meals at the a la carte restaurants and some that were not as good. My favorite was the French restaurant. I do wish this resort would offer a larger variety of fish. The food was not labeled at the Buffet, making it hard to identify. There was a good selection of fresh fruit the majority of our stay as well as lots of canned stuff. My favorite was the papaya, guava and the fresh pineapple. They did have plenty of the best smoked salmon, serrano ham from Spain (prosciutto) and an excellent variety of cheeses. The pizzas were very good. Breakfast was great at the buffet, lots of choices. Yes some days they ran out of some items, like bacon. They have one food supplier in Cuba, no competition. Sometimes the hotels cannot get what they want and need.
The service was really exceptional everywhere. The Cubans are very friendly and courteous. They aim to please. This is their livelyhood.
They had talented performers in the main Lobby every night.
The theater is large with decent shows. They do not post the performances daily.
It would be good to post ahead as other resorts do.
We did not upgrade to the privilige package. I dont know if it would have made any difference. As the resort was not operating at full capacity, we had no issue with getting a table, chairs or reservations. I think it really depends on the price. It may be worth to upgrade to get better wines and premium liquors. The wines served were OK and I did not feel compelled to purchase the better brands.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to my family and friends.

The grounds, beach and the service was great. Prefect spot for a relaxing holiday. All the workers made our trip enjoyable. The nightly entertainment was excellent the only problem was that the show was interrupted by young children who were not controlled by their parents.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Needs improvements...not there yet.
My review is based on my past experiences in Cuba and not my experiences in Jamaica or Mexico. This resort can definitely pass as a 5 star hotel in regards to its design and finishes. Its location is 5 star since the beach is just beautiful. The rocks give the guests a sense of privacy as if it their own private beach. This resort loses points on food but especially service. Comparing to other resorts in the area, the food quality sits somewhere in the middle. However the restaurants we tried wer[... read more]e very tasty except the portions are somewhat small.I am a petite female and even then I wanted a few more spoonfuls.
We know this place has only been running for less than two months but certain things defintely impacted our stay. Wifi...don't think they ever had it or will have it anytime soon. However wish they just say that instead of maybe tom, try back later. Beach towels...we had to reuse our towels for four days because there was a problem with the towels. We never understood what the problem was with not having fresh beach towels, just told try back tom, try back later. The fridge in the rooms are smaller than seen before and is only stocked with one large bottle of water, two cans of pop and 2 beers. I dont care for the pops or beers, but water is very needed when on vacation. When we asked the staff for another bottle of water when we were heading to the beach, he asked us what room we were in. We assumed that meant that we will not get another bottle in our room...which would be a very silly concept. However when we returned to our room we had another bottle...unsure if maybe he just forgot our room number and if he had remembered we wouldnt have got one. So the next day we left a note in the fridge to pls give us two water bottles and no beer (written in spanish) but we still ended with just one bottle. The hotel bank is suppose to open at 9:30 but like other things such as 1pm lunch buffet, it too goes on a schedule that is not known to guests or many other staffs. But this is not to say that there aren't really wonderful, diligent staff at the Valentin. A handful of people really did make our stay memorable. I believe with more training and time,, this resort can become a solid five star resort.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Very nice, clean and modern resort.
This resort is amazing for Cuba. So many pools and so many bars. Everything was beautiful, staff were great and very friendly (not motivated by tips 1st) food choice and quality was excellent specially for Cuba. My wife and I have been to Veradero 3 previous times and really liked this resort. The drive from the airport is a little long (1 hr and 20 mins) but well worth the drive.
Overall I would return to this resort in a heartbeat. Thanks for the great week and perhaps see you soon!

Memories Paraiso: Fantastic Vacation
We originally booked the Memories Resort Diamond Club Azul but because of my limited walking ability they moved us to the Paraiso section. So very glad they did. Diamond Club worth the $$. We attended 2 dinners with Diamond Club (Lobster) and one of the dinners was poolside with a synchronized swimming show. Rooms fantastic, Staff Amazing! Resort very large but it's not noticeable if you stay in your own section. Beach beautiful with an abundance of chairs and someone always willing to help you [... read more]find one and dust the sand off for you. Room very comfortable and was always nice to have a little decoration left on our bed each day. Pool was beautiful, walkin with no stairs. People did save chairs every morning but we did not have any issues. They come around with cushions for your lounge chair every morning. Lobby always full of people and very entertaining. Saw several shows in the evening and they are good. Loved the little train that took you around the resort if you didn't wish to walk. The village which is between Memories Paraiso and The Royalton was a nice easy walk with a few restaurants, bowling alley and merchant wares. We did go to the Japan Tepanaki (extra cost of $22 each) and were very disappointed. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the show was not very impressive. Italian and Mexican restaurants were very scrumptious! The buffet - always something available. My favorite -bacon, fresh eggs, hashbrowns or a BLT for breakfast. I cannot say enough about our wait staff in the Diamond Club section - Michael, Jammy and Eric. They made our meal times something special. They always had a smile on their face and willing to assist everyone (even the ones who complained).

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Amazing resort
the grounds were well kept and clean of debris and garbage. The rooms were spacious and clean, however the beds were hard. water pressure was good and the bathrooms were kept clean. The buffet was huge and not only was the food good you had a choice of precooked or grilled while you wait. The staff were all so friendly and helful. Tips were graciously accepted but not expected.I would go back here again.

Memories Paraiso: good value nice place to relax
Second time to this area first time to this resort. It is a very safe, clean and pleasant place to stay. This area is for tourists only and a long way from the real Cuban people. You can take an excursion to some local towns where the people are nice. The resort has everything you need and there was no surprises. Food is good and lots of it. Safe place for families.

Memories Paraiso: Little Things Make a Big Difference
The beach, rooms & staff were fantastic. Diamond Club was worth the extra cost.
Food was average and food management was the big problem. Only place for breakfast was main buffet. Way too crowded and long line ups for basic things. Italian was the only decent el la carte. Resort is too big, 1300 rooms.

Valentin Perla Blanca: A wonderful holiday destination
Everything about this hotel was excellent but I am giving 4 stars because the food at the Al a cart restaurants wasn't as good as the buffet when we visited them. We had the same beach towels for 2 weeks, we never found the towel exchange open. Room towels were unable to be changed unless taken from our room to be washed. Fortunately we had brought our own towels so were not without. Hopefully these things are soon rectified.
Our hotel room was beautiful, 3rd floor with king bed. Mini bar filled[... read more] every day, some days twice. The lobby and Lobby bar area plus the tea and coffee shop were very eye appealing and comfortable to relax in. The pools were beautiful and the Island Sunbeds very comfy. Loungers around the pool very plentiful and lots of shade available. The tiled loungers in the water look great but I didn't find them very comfy to lay on.
The beach is a little awkward to get to with the rocks and buff but once there, gorgeous white sands and crystal clear water. We used the steps from the beach bar to access the beach and had no problems.
Food in the buffet, snack bar and Ranchon was always well prepared and delicious. We enjoyed the shows at the Theatre, especially the Michael Jackson show. We even enjoyed the Disco on two occasions.
Staff all over the resort are very friendly and efficient. Service was excellent. Prosciutto, Smoked Salmon and Cheeses were a nice change for breakfast from Omelettes which were also good.
A long 90 minute drive from the airport but nice during daylight to see the Cuban countryside. Modern buses but no bathrooms on the bus.
We hope to return to this hotel.
