Paradisus Varadero: Not as expected for 1900$ for 5 days

There was a very negative vibe on this property. Most of the people I talked to on this resort said they would never be back. The old area was no more than 3 star. That is where i was out. I was single and paid the single supplement and was very disappointed. The property was depressing as everyhing was brown The curtain in my room was half on and half off the rod on which they were hanging. The bed was clean and comfortable and the maid was lovely. The food was ok at times. The alchohol was [... read more] not international it was all Cuban and for a five star I should have been able to have a drink of better more domestic brands. They said they did not have crown royal or other popular brands. The beach was beautiful but not exactly groomed or clean as it could have been I’m so disappointed and rather depressed after this holiday. I have stayed in several places but I’m very sorry to report I will never go there again. A better choice would have been the other Paradisus (adults only). It was not worth the 1900 I paid maybe 1000 tops. I should be given compensation for this experience. Some Chairs were in very rough shape. Thank u for listening

Palma Real: Okay for the price we pay

The staff was very good and friendly. Telephone not working so we couldn’t receive phone calls from friends. Water was very good for showers. Could clean pool more often. Food was okay there should be glasses on tables so we can get our own juice or yugourt

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Not 5 star resort

Barcelo Solymar: Good resort

Some things repair in the rooms. Room we stayed at had no door knob in the balcony. No shower door in the washroom. Front dest services are quit slow. Bellboy was usually not around when people were waiting to get there luggages.

Sol Varadero Beach: Great Time ! Beautiful Beach

We recently got back from a 4 night stay here. Me and my husband had a great time , The staff were nice, the pool was great and the beach is stunning . We always found something we enjoyed in the buffet and the snack bar always had yummy fries and burgers, chicken sandwiches and hot dogs. It is definitely a very kid friendly resort. The Hotel is Clean however keep in mind it is older and could use a little paint job here and there but that did not set us back any.

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Nice Resort - Still Work to be Done

My boyfriend and I stsyed at the Iberostar Bella Vista from April 20-23rd. The resort is well-maintained and clean since it is new. Rooms are nice, amenities are satisfactory, service was good, bartenders were great, beach is beautiful, pool area is clean and nice. Everything on the resort is super close to the beach, no more than 3 minute walk. Things to be improved: Clean beach towels ran out every single day by 3pm (maybe even earlier), the breakfast/ lunch/ dinner buffet are very poorly laid [... read more] out and the food options are mostly terrible. I’ve been to 3 resorts in Cuba and while this is one is new and esthetically pleasing, the food was a common frustration for many patrons I spoke with. Long line-ups for anything served at the grills, many of the favourite food choices, ie fries, ran out and were not refilled. For the a la carts, the Japanese Restaurant was a great experience and the meal was pretty good. The Steakhouse was disappointing. Overall we had a nice stay and enjoyed our time, but we dont think we could have spent a week here.

Grand Memories Varadero: My review of Grand Memories Varadero

Front desk: Quality service, fast check in. Technical bifficulties with our room. Change room the next day and I was given a free Diamond Club upgrade. Room: Well kept by house keeping. We had to climb in and out of the bathtub, too high. Grounds: Well kept, too far to walk for all enmities. I have knees and back injuries and I am a senior citizen. (I suggest making gulf carts available on the main walkway from the beach to pass the theatre to the pool). Restaurants: Excellent service at the  [... read more]main buffet from Karl, Indira, Frank and Jesus. Bars: Very professional, main lobby always crowded. Pool: Clean and well staffed with lifeguard and entainers. Pool swim up bar: Good compliment of bartenders, lots people sat at the bar for hours, where bid they pee?

Paradisus Varadero: Exceptional view of the beach

This was our 5th resort in Cuba and by far the best views of the beach from the resort . No dunes or brush just palm trees. Grounds crew were visible everyday neatening up the resort and the cleaning,wait and bar staff were very friendly although in my opinion a little understaffed . The food was ok but you’ll always find something you like an as they say “ you don’t go to cube for the food “ We will definitely look at going back to the resort.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Average Resort

This is a nice sized resort, however, the consensus by many people over the week was that there needs to be some improvement. We arrived on an early morning flight, and as the webpage states, rooms are not available until 4 pm. We were told to come back after lunch, and twice after that, and never actually received our room until after 5 pm. We were told later that the people leaving our assigned room had paid pecos for a late checkout. Beach towels are in your room so there were no towels for [... read more] the first beach day. No one told us you exchange beach towels with your maid, there is no towel hut. I found this out by accident when asking where to find the beach hut, and several people told us they had been using the same beach towels all week. Most days the maid did not have clean towels available. On the one afternoon she had clean towels, we came back from the beach to find them in our room. Most of the public washrooms are disgusting and many do not have locks or toilet paper. There is a horrific smell heading into many of the public facilities, which we also experienced (sewer smell) coming from the sink drain in our room for two days. Rooms are very nice. We were in the 51 block and had a super maid. Food was very repetitive and often cold in the buffet. The Itailian and Brazilian were both very good. There was not a lot of communication of events happening, and it was during the last few days we heard about the piano bar. It is a lovely little retreat in the evenings away from the evening bugs. The beach is lovely, however, one must be down in the pitch dark by 6 am to reserve a chair and palapa. Even though spots are reserved chairs are often moved by staff and many chairs squeezed under what shade was available. We were told they lost an entire row of palapas in the hurricane, which definitely need to be rebuilt sooner than later. The staff at the Beach Bar were not pleasant and they appeared tired and non interested. The food was good at the Beach restaurant, however, same for the some of the staff there. What we love about Cuba is how lovely the people are and how gracious they can be. This was the first time we did not find this of the staff of this resort. This is our 9th trip to Varadaro, and we were slightly disappointed as we have never experienced any of these issues in Varadaro before, and the other resorts we visited were not as new as Ocean El Patriarca.

Playa Vista Azul: Good and bad

Hotel was clean, modern and in good shape. Food was good, main pool service was good as well as alcarte restaurants and maid service. Did not like where the lobby was located, seemed distant from the rest of hotel. Lack of entertainment nightly except for shows, little in way of music. Lobby bar service and buffet service non existent. Serve yourself or flag them down for a drink. Very poor unfriendly service, compared to service in Cayo Santa Maria. Been to Cuba a dozen times and feel service [... read more] here lacking. No alcholol served at beach bar when we arrived at 3 am only pop. Lobby check in poor, no lights on very dark, could not see where we were signing, even after told her she did not turn on a light. Overall I would rate our experience a 7 put of 10.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Good - but not AS good

This is my third year in a row to this resort for my wife and myself. We also travelled with 2 other couples this year and last year. While the facilities are good, and the food (for Cuba) is also pretty good, I must admit I have seen a deterioration in both the resort and the mood of the employees over the 3 years. Drinks at the pool are DEFINITELY being watered down, while those at the Hotel lobby are full strength. Repairs to infrastructure do not seem to be on a "pro active" basis (area ligh [... read more]ts needing replacement, some railings loose or not fully secure, etc.) When these are pointed out, they are noted (and hopefully rectified). But a well-run resort shouldn't need the travellers to point these things out, they should be noted and amended BEFORE the travellers even notice. The above also seems to be the consensus among our group. All things considered, the resort still represents good value for the money and I probably would go there again next year.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: A perfect sized friendly resort!

Although the grounds of this resort were beautiful, we wondered why the lagoons near the central/main bar were empty. The map we received when registering was confusing in such that the names of the services did not seem to match the indicators on the map. In time, we figured it out. Our room, although we requested to be on the top floor, was on the 1st floor - when after 2 hours of waiting for our room to be ready, it lacked the face and hand towels. There were 2 single/double beds close to [... read more]gether when we requested a "king", and the first night, the key card did not work and had to have it repaired, which was done quickly, I must admit. But we did patiently watch while the repair person rifled through his toolbox to find enough loose batteries that would work to repair the door-lock. Which after being in the room for a couple of days found that the patio door had no "secure" locking system anyway and the room could be easily entered by anyone at anytime! We paid for the "Elegance Club" upgrade which states "Dedicated room location" but the Air Transat rep at the hotel said you get what you get when it comes to the rooms. Although the pool was inviting and very clean, we found that the pool area lacked shaded areas to sit. We found refuge in the Snack Bar near the pool. We found that the beach was lovely! Quite impressed by the ingenuity of how sunbathers found shade by flipping one lounge chair to block the sun from the occupied chair. They could have had more canopies to sit under, but definitely had enough chairs to accommodate the shade-seekers. We were aware before we booked the resort that the stage was being repaired, and the entertainment we did see, was truly entertaining, however, from night to night, we were not sure where it was to be held. Most of the time, once we found out where the entertainment was being shown, there was no chance of finding available seating to watch. We did, however, enjoy the a la cartes - the food and service was excellent. This was our fifth time at a "Melia" resort and I would definitely consider coming back to this resort as their serving, cleaning and grounds staff were a delight to meet which always makes a holiday so inviting, however I will certainly not be so quick as to request the "Elegance Club" as we found its "upgrades" totally lacking as was promised in the advert.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: NOT VERY PLEASED THIS TIME AROUND

BATHROOMS IN THE LOBBY AND COURTYARD AREA DID NOT HAVE TOILET PAPER OR PAPER TOWELS HALF THE TIME. FOOD WAS DECENT. THE A LA CARTE RESTAURANTS WERE NICE. BARTENDERS WERE NOT VERY POLITE, AND ALWAYS EXPECTED TIPS. ENTERING THE AIRPORT, THE SAME ISSUE NO TOILET PAPER OR PAPER TOWELS

Palma Real: Having problems

Third trip to this resort & I must say they are having problems at this time. No elevator service & we were on the 4th floor with mobility issues. Our room had a water leak so our bathroom floor had a flood & of course they had to shut off the water, so for 3 days no hot water. The food had improved with many new selections. The staff is fabulous especially Jesus & Joanna in the buffet & Osoyios & Elena at the snack bar. I have recommended this hotel to friends but I would be a little dubiou [... read more]s of doing that at the present.

Melia Varadero: Super Resort

First impressions upon entering lobby is wow – clean, open and spacious Hallways to rooms air conditioned and clean Our room 1118 was a corner unit, spacious and had an amazing L shaped balcony – approx 7 ft wide x 27 ft x 18 ft., two loungers, 2 chairs and a table. Dining room – buffet was large enough that you never had to wait for a seat – typical of most Cuban resorts except larger selection. Ala carte restaurants are amazing, great food and service. Piano bar had most of the hig [... read more]h end drinks you will not find in the lower end resorts More than enough loungers around pool and the beach, obviously not all of the loungers were in the shade. If you like extra long walks on the beach, this resort is restricted by the rock out cuts into the water which you could not walk past.

Melia Varadero: Amazing Resort

This hotel (Melia Varadero) was so clean and very pretty. Our room was always spotless, the people so friendly, The food was good in the buffet but the A la Cartes were out of the world wonderful. The grounds were so pretty and well kept. The location is a little too far out of Varadero for us as we like to walk in town everyday and you have to take the double decker bus which stops running at 9pm or a taxi every time. The only complaint I would have would be where the beach is situate [... read more]d. It is clean and nice, there are some rock at the edge of the water BUT it is stuck between two huge rock outcroppings so we could not walk for miles like we always do every time we go to Varadero. I would definitely go back again.

Be Live Turquesa: Fantastic Vacation!

I was extremely pleased with the Be Live Turquesa and would not hesitate to return. Actually I have already decided I will be back next April without a doubt. Before booking at this resort, I did a bit of research about it. I fully understood that it was smaller, older resort so I knew what to expect. While it may be a bit outdated, they do seem to be taking steps to make improvements to the rooms. Fabulous beach with new palapas, the pool was awesome & very relaxing and the entertainment was fantastic. Food in the buffet was excellent and I was always able to find something to eat. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to try one of the a la carte restaurants but everyone was raving about how good the Italian restaurant was so I must try it next time. The resort was kept very clean by all the hard working staff and it was the staff that set this resort above and beyond the others I have stayed at in Cuba. They treated me like family! They were all so nice and made me feel so welcome. They made my vacation! I can't wait to see them all again!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: 3 Star Resort

This resort was disappointing! The building we were in had no water for two days from 10:00 in the morning until 7:00 at night and we had no air conditioning for the first two days. There was no shade around the pools and the beach you had to get up before 7 o'clock to get a hut and soon after that all the chairs were gone. The food was very bland so I ate a lot of bread! The white sand beach and water was amazing.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Great lacation

This was our 13th stay at this resort, the staff are like family to us, the beach is beautiful with lots of chairs and shade, the new management has made some changes, food was good, choice of drinks were better, but we were disappointed that the brands had changed and the slushy machines were gone, and that the hours for the bar areas had changed. The coffee bar is wonderful. The gardeners have done a wonderful job with the trees and plants. The buildings need some TLC, which we were told that  [... read more]some renovations are planned to start soon. We would go back again.
