Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Huge resort

The resort overall was nice. It’s very big, but easy to figure out once you are there. The rooms are clean, a bit dated as are most of the other buildings. I was disappointed that for a 7 day stay you can only book 3 a la cartes and there is no room service. The bus ride to the resort is very long as it stops at many other resorts and this one is the furthest- would recommend a private transfer. Also, there were no servers around the pools or beach area for drinks- had to get them yourself. Th [... read more]e beach area is very small with no food options, the area has a lot of rocks and coral- definitely need water shoes. The nighttime entertainment was really good with lots of variety. The staff are very nice, and helpful when they can be. There are shops located just a trolley ride away which was nice. There is also a doctor on-site which was great since I needed to visit after an unexpected incident happened. Overall the resort is nice, clean, good food, god drinks and very nice staff.

Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: Amazing resort

Grounds kept clean, meals were very good. Booking for them was a bit of a chore having to be in a early line up to book for only one day ahead booking. We never knew what the dress codes were either. Other then that all good.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Very average resort

3 stars resort in reality. Beach is marina for small boats, surrounded by 6-7 breakwaters with few piers, water is shallow, full of algae and brown - that's why everybody is in the pool. Pool is too full and shallow as well. You need to go out before 6 am to get spot in the shade. They do not clean floors in the buildings for days and it is very gross to walk by human poop 5 meters from elevator which doesn't work anyways, same cigarette butts by the pool day after day. Excellence Riviera Cancun: Beautiful Resort

This was my first trip to Mexico. I was amazed at the beautiful resort. Everything was spotless and the grounds were absolutely lovely. The service was excellent. The staff all wore masks and I never once saw anyone adjusting or lifting their masks. I felt confident that the staff at the resort were going above and beyond to ensure the safety of the guests as well as themselves. I highly recommend this resort and I hope to return there in the future.

Canto Del Sol: Very nice Resort

I would stay there again. Its excellent location For everything ,shops to theAirport. Kids frindly.The only thing we didn't like the bathroom need to update. Everything else in the resort is nice. We really enjoyed our trip staying in the resort. I will definitely recommend to my family and friends.

Dining great rooms were great shopping was close and affordable the jewelry shop was perfect pools were good didn’t really like the beach but we totally adapted lol too far from the airport but agian we adapted

Very nice resort. I understand pushing hotels clubs and times shares but pretending my brothers room was not ready in order for us to stay through a discussion on the hotel club was a big turn off. The not enough chairs around pool and beach was crazy unless you got up at 5:30 and saved chairs you were pretty much out of luck for the day. Now the worst is the seaweed. So much seaweed I know its not the hotels fault but using the tractor to clean some of it during the day caused the worst smell  [... read more]ever. Krystal Ixtapa: Amazing location, not the best resort!

I spent April 17-24 at the Krystal Ixtapa and where do I start... Positives: - an AMAZING location, absolutely beautiful and a short walk to the little town, which is lovely too, especially at night. The restaurants there are also great and was the only time I didn't get food poising, but I will get to that later. - Bring extra masks because you will need them. You have to wear masks in the hotel and when you are getting food and drinks by the pool. - The people were really nice, b [... read more]ut not many speak English, so it would be wise to brush up on a little Español - The room was very clean and the view was phenomenal. It's a very basic room, no mini-fridge. Negatives: - I am still not right when it comes to my plumbing. I spent every other day puking for about 4 hours or until everything was out of my system. My friend was the same way. It's not that the food is gross but I think it comes down to their refrigeration. And it isn't just our N. American tummy's that couldn't handle it, the resort had a bunch of Mexican families staying there and I could hear people getting sick in the lobby washroom. It was really awful TBH. - Not much nightlife at the resort. They have some little shows and a place called Christine's, but it's still very family-oriented. We had fun day drinking though! TIPS: - Definitely bring Pesos. There's only one bank that has currency exchange and no one wants USD. - DO NOT BRING ANY TYPE OF TOBACCO PRODUCT INTO MEXICO!!! I learned this the hard way. Brought one disposable vape pen and they charged me 637% of it and I paid $70USD Would I go back to Ixtapa.....DEFINITELY, but there's no way I would ever stay at that resort again. Hotel Emporio Ixtapa: Great resort

The service in the main dining area and the Italian restaurant was excellent. The food was excellent. For the amount of people staying there the snack bar restaurant should have been open from 11:00am to 9:00pm at night. The food was excellent but service was very slow. There were not enough tables and chairs for number of guests. Not enough lounge chaises around pool. Many were reserved by guests by 9:00am. There were not enough umbrellas for the hot sun. Security shoved Pastor John and told him he had to leave. I had no idea restrictions for visitors were so harsh. This all took place while I was sitting on the bench waiting for him. Riu Palace Pacifico: Best Resort Yet

As a seasoned resort guest and frequent traveler to Mexico I can honestly say this was by far the best resort we have ever stayed in. I didn't think there would be much difference between a 4.5 star and a 5 but there was. First off the food was amazing. Absolutely amazing. Don't bother with the A La Carts and stick to the buffet which changes themes every night. You could live on seafood alone there is so much of it. Service in the buffet was to the highest standards with Janet in the morning/lunch and Lucerra at dinner. I wish we had servers like this in Canada. Most of the bar service was very quick and even with the hotel at full capacity you could easily get to a bar to order a drink and there were plenty of chairs around the pool. Only top shelf alcohol served, even in the fruity slush drinks. Ventured down to the Vallarta and they had to go behind a door to pour my Jim Beam. As per usual towel hogs were out early reserving chairs with the irony of the fact that they don't show up till after noon. Really sad. Wish one hotel would stop this and I would be a committed patron for life. Trips to Bucerias were quick and cost 100 pesos. We rode the horses on the beach down there once and that was 500 pesos each. Great trip. Le Negra in Bucerias was really nice for dinner. Expensive but nice. Recommend reservations Can't go wrong with the Palace.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Loved this resort!

The Grand Sirenis is a huge property that provides multiple areas for relaxation or fun! Lush vegetation provides a natural habitat for many animals which we loved! A beautiful natural cove at the beach provides shelter on rough days and snorkelling off the beach! Multiple restaurants and several concierge’s to assist with bookings or to answer questions.A whole variety of activities day and night! Many bar tenders and servers keep you well hydrated. All staff wore masks indoors and outdoors [... read more] and hand sanitizer was available. It’s the other guests who don’t always respect the rules but they can’t control that. If you love music and dancing hopefully they will have the silent DJ one night, it is an absolute blast!! We would go back tomorrow if we could!

Las Palmas by the Sea: Very enjoyable stay

We had a great week. Everything was up to what I expected. They have done a wonderful job with covid-19 prevention. Masks were enforced especially at the bar. The only wish I have is that they would have frig's and coffee machines in the rooms. Top marks for service, food, grounds, pool and bartenders.

Planet Hollywood Cancun by Royalton: Not bad

It’s Definitely not a 5 star Resort. The service and the food is alright, the buffet is very small for that size of a resort there’s always a line up to get into the buffet I have been to Mexico quite a few times I never had to wait in the line up get into buffet.

Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: Beautiful resort with amazing food but limited entertainment

My wife and I spent one week at Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta in mid-April to celebrate our honeymoon. We were housed on the 4th floor, in the main building. Seems like most rooms in the main building have a partial view of the ocean. I wish to dedicate a special shout-out to the Aileen (the manager) and Patricia (concierge) for making our stay a memorable one! Pros: - Very clean and well maintained - Beautiful architecture including infinity pool - Rain showers in each room! - Main buffe [... read more]t was right by the beach/ocean, so you can enjoy incredible views during meals - The Resort was small, so regardless of which building you were allocated to, everything is within walkable distance even for those with limited mobility - Food was clean and delicious, especially snack bar (fried fish tacos + cheesy nachos were the bomb) and the A La Carte (Grill & Italian restaurants were the best, followed by Japanese, and least favorite was the Mexican). I would advise skipping the Mexican unless you’re really curious. We ate at the buffet daily and did not have any GI issues, despite eating freshly cut fruits or cold cuts - All hotel staff were diligent about COVID protocols and were wearing masks, which gives us confidence that management takes this seriously Cons: - Guests left their towels overnight on the beach/pool chairs for the entire week to reserve those spots, which is selfish and inconsiderate to say the least. - No money exchangers / banks on-site, which makes it difficult to exchange money to tip hotel staff - Have to get up at 6:30AM to make A La Carte reservations (especially the Grill & the Italian) EVERY morning, unless you’re an Altitude Member (in which case you can book 2 days in advance). There were at least 30-40 seats that were empty during our entire dining service, which was unfortunate as individuals likely booked but didn’t show. - Very limited entertainment (No live performances in the evening, no access to water sports like kayak or catamaran, no access to board games or sports) - Access to the Games room (Ping Pong, Table Pool, Darts, XBOX & Playstation) were limited only to Adolescents under 18 years old. - The waves were very strong in the week that we were there, and ocean was not clear enough to snorkel Recommendations to Resort improvements: - Please have an on-site money exchanger (even if it is small), so that your hotel staff can receive more tips - Please have someone clear out all beach towels left overnight, so that there are no “reservations” of beach/pool chairs for the whole period. The $25 cost of each Beach towel lost will surely have some Guests thinking twice about trying to reserve these chairs - Please limit each hotel guest to booking the Grill and Italian once during each 7-day stay, so that other Guests can get to experience it too - Please grant Adults access to Ping Pong and Table pool too - Please provide some board games where Guests can loan these out and return them for entertainment

Las Brisas Huatulco: Beautiful location for 4 star resort

Gorgeous beaches and grounds; Food was somewhat mediocre Problem with getting a cup of coffee in the middle of the day Cocktails and alcoholic drinks were actually quite good Service was generally good and room was cleaned every day. Be aware that room buildings are up on the hills so you either walk a looot of stairs or fully relaying on carts . Not sure if I'd be back to that particular resort

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Amazing time at Bahia Tulum

We were very pleased to see how Covid conscious staff were at this resort. All staff wore face masks 100% of the time. There was hand santizer available everywhere. Tables in buffets were sanitized after each diner. Guests were not permitted in buffets or restaurants without masks. When we left to go on excursions all transport and venues took temperature and again, staff were masked and guests had to be masked for entry. Very Covid safe!

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: I would advise skipping this one...

Overall, I would recommend skipping this resort and paying the extra $200 per person for something a little nicer in the area if you're planning to take the time off work/school and come all the way to Mexico anyways. More specifically, the beach is unusable with obstructed views, seaweed and constant red flags on the beach making it impossible to swim. The resort is far too big (even for my parter and I who are in our 20s and very active). Be prepared to walk, and walk, and walk. If you forget  [... read more]sunscreen in your room, be prepared to derail your entire afternoon (likely an hour) just making the hike back to your room to retrieve it. It is just very impractical getting around the resort as the "shuttles" never come, are completely full or reserved for members only. The layout of the resort is very bizarre (the restaurants and rooms are SO far away from the beach and pool, and by far away I'm taking a solid 15-20 minute walk one-way). Personally, I would not recommend this resort for families with small children or anyone with any sort of mobility issues. There is nowhere that has any shade if you want relief from the sun which was a huge issue for us. A small area on the beach has little shaded cabanas, but of course these were for members only. The rest of us had to fight for loungers (not too upset about this one, we recognize that happens at many resorts) but there was absolutely no lounge area around the pool that was shaded. After a couple of days getting burnt to a crisp, we struggled to find any place to go on the resort to relax and have a break from the sun. The front desk is not helpful if you have ANYTHING that goes wrong in your room (or the resort in general). The rooms are very old and dated. You will be lucky to not find a stain on a pillow or on your sheets. From everyone we spoke to staying at the resort, everyone's room had some sort of issue (toilet paper roll kept coming out of the wall, shower spout wouldn't turn, phone in room wasn't working, mirror on the wall was cracked, patio door wouldn't open, room smelled like mold, etc.) The food was very standard, nothing exceptional or unique to it. I've been to resorts that have little taco stands in the afternoon, ice cream bars, grilled food by the pools.. this resort had nothing like that. It was your standard buffet food. You need to book the a la cartes 2 days in advance and get to the lobby no later than 11am or all the reservations for the next day will be gone (forget about same day reservations). This requires a lot of pre-planning that you don't really want to have to think about when on vacation. As a small aside not about the resort, it's starting to get very obvious that the pick-up times on the day you are leaving the resort are ridiculously early. They want to pick you up from your resort 5 hours before your flight to account for "travel time" and picking up other guests at neighbouring resorts to get you to the airport early enough for an international flight. While I do appreciate this, you end up sitting in the airport waiting for your flight home for 4 hours. As a result, every tourist is seen spending a ridiculous amount of money on the airport food (burgers and fries were $33 CAD with a bottle of water being $8 CAD). It seems strange that we all have to do this when we are coming from an all inclusive and could have been eating an included meal from our resort? Almost made us want to just arrange a private taxi/shuttle to get to the airport at a more reasonable time (2 hours before our flight). The money we would spend on a private shuttle we would save on all the airport food from being there so early.. could it be the resort, transportation service, and airport want you to check-out of your hotel crazy early in order to spend $$$$$ at the airport?!? You do wonder why a 4/4.5 star resort is so much cheaper than the other 4/4.5 star resorts listed online.. it's because this is a 3.5 star resort at best, honestly. I would really advise skipping this one.

Royal Hideaway Playacar: Amazing Resort

This was our 5th visit to the Royal Hideaway. Yes the rooms are a little tired but they are spotlessly clean. The grounds are immaculate. The people make the resort. They are so kind and work so very hard. The food was fantastic. All staff wore masks and we did too. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: amazing resort

I was very please with this hotel the grounds are beautiful the beach not so much as there's loads of seaweed at the moment but still can go in .....the hotel has many restaurants and all the food I ate from room service to the restaurant and buffet are 10 out of 10 perfect dishs Flavor portions great I was in the elbso side adult's only I had swim out the swim out need a great clean but they did clean when there I used it all morning and afternoons in the pool I have to say I travel a lot and [... read more] the booze at this hotel is not watered down love it the rooms are clean and done twice a day I don't have one bad thing to say I definitely will go back 😀

Occidental Nuevo Vallarta: We will return! 14 fabulous days!

From the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out, we were impressed! We had asked for a quieter room, higher level, king sized bed. Upon checking in, they said they tried to accommodate all our requests, but could not get a higher level floor. We were given room 246. It exceeded our expectations! The room was spacious, so clean, so bright, with a huge deck overlooking the Royal Pool AND the ocean! (We did NOT upgrade to Royal). It had two chairs and table, plus two loungers!  [... read more] It was so quiet at night, the air conditioning worked perfectly. The only thing with our deck was that it was too hot to sit on it from about 3-7 PM. The floors above us had covers but we did not. The pool bar shut down around 8 PM, so there was never any issue with noise after 8. We could see the shows from our deck! All staff were friendly and helpful. The buffet food was scrumptious and huge variety! We ate breakfast every morning at the buffet, and three nights at the buffet. Lunch was always at the Mariachi, and always lots of choices! We tried each a la carte at least 2-4 times and loved them all! The service at each a la carte was exceptional! To make a reservation for an a la carte you go to the lobby each morning about 8:20 and line up. You can start reserving about 8:45. The times are 6, 7, 8, 9 and I believe 10. It is a pain to do this every morning, but it is also a nice way to meet people from around the world! They used to allow you to reserve a few days in a row, but because people would reserve then not bother to show up, they had to change to one day at a time. Reservations can be made between 8:45-4. Please help them out by cancelling your reservation if you do not decide to go. That allows someone else to be able to use that time slot. The shows were from 9-10 PM each night and very professional! They had many activities, water aerobics, Zumba, yoga, fun games and activities and so much more! I could go on and on. The one small thing that could be improved upon, (but could be a staffing issue) is the beach and lounger area. It would be nice to see it raked and cleaned up a bit better, and the lounge chairs and tables cleaned more. There are so many people to thank, so here are a few, as some I didn't get their names. Eric (helped us with Spanish) Puk (funny, friendly, terrific service) Ana, who helped us with Spanish, Irene (fabulous! (Beach server), Stephan - so personable! (reservation man), Jose, (Esther and Jabier at the shopping shack) Raphael and Alberto at the Italian, Blanca our maid, fabulous! Fania, Francesco at the buffet who helped us with our Spanish! Valeria and her Harris hawk, Sahara. There are so many to thank and I feel so bad I didn't get all their names. The young ladies at the Lobby Bar at night were also fantastic! The two activities men! This resort is a 4 min walk to the Riviera Farmers Market every Tuesday from 9-2! We noticed ramps everywhere and there are elevators if anyone has mobility issues or uses a wheelchair. Paradise Village Mall is a 2-3 minute walk from the resort! The beach is lovely and flat to walk on! If we had any issues, for example, we were out of our room every morning before 9. We asked if it would be possible to have our room cleaned before noon, not late in the day. It was done! We had a couple of days when we did not get coffee or water. We went to the front desk, and it was brought up immediately. We just asked politely, and any issue was taken care of! We will return! Mucho gracias to all staff who made our stay so memorable! I had hoped to post photos along with this review, but it did not give me that option! Covid protocols were met in all areas. Hand sanitizing and wearing of masks entering restaurants and leaving but not once you’re at your table. You didn’t have to wear a mask walking around the lobby or hallways unless you were too close to another person.
