We really enjoyed the food. It was always very fresh and tasty. The resort staff were very friendly and helpful. They kept the ground very clean all the time. The entertainment crew were fabulous. They did an amazing job entertaining everyone

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Great trip
We had a great trip and happy that we did not listen to all the negative comments.
The Pros:
Nice beach and great food. Golf cart were handy to get from lobby to beach. Nice room close to 2 pools with swim up bars. Our Catamaran and Dune Buggy excursion were awesome. The A la cartes were great. The Japanese was the best.
The Cons:
Too many people on the beach. Could not get a lounge chair unless you went early to reserve one. Mosquitos in the lobby and one of the restaurants smelled like [... read more]sewage.
All in all if you stayed away from lobby and that one smelly restaurant, then you would have a great experience. Unfortunately if you did not put a towel on a lounge chair like everyone else, you would never get to sit in one.
The hotel grounds and rooms are very clean; staff are cleaning all the time.
Food was excellent and service was great. The beach was not the greatest and the water was very murky and difficult to go in and out. The quiet pool was awesome but did not understand why the skimmers/jets were not working. Our room was too close to the entertainment area and was quite noisy. No diet sodas available at all
My husband and I stayed at the BP Grand Aquamarine in Punta Cana for 7 days Feb 20-27th 2025 and we would definitely return. I requested a ground floor room( no elevator) and got it without any issue. Our room was clean, very spacious, but slightly dated ( I’m not complaining though, it was a lovely room). The staff, overall, were friendly and gracious. The resort grounds were gorgeous. The walk to the beach was 10 mins from our room, but you can get a ride if you like. The evening entertainment[... read more] was enjoyable, the staff created a fun, welcoming atmosphere. The buffet had lots of variety and very good. We did not have any issues with stomach upset. I highly recommend the following a la carte restaurants: The Fish Market, Thali Restaurant (Indian food), and the Gourmet restaurant in Ambar resort (you must try the Picasso cocktail). We also went to MEAT and Portofino Italian Restaurants they were good , the pizza was excellent at Portofino. I did not enjoy the food or wait staff at Mashua Restaurant. We were unable to get a reservation at the Mexican restaurant. We will eat there the next time we go to the Aquamarine Resort because we will absolutely be going back!!

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Rude staff
The hotel was fine. The rooms were not cleaned properly each day. Dirty towels and face cloths were left on the floor for the staff to change out but instead, they just left them there. The front desk staff were shady. When a ground floor room was requested, they said they would do it for a 50$ fee. When the woman produced her CC, they told her it had to be cash only. They turned the lights off in the lobby at 11pm even though a group of us were playing cards. When we asked them to turn them bac[... read more]k on, they were very confrontational saying they were on a timer, but the night before when they went off, they turned them back on when we asked (different staff). They rolled their eyes at us when we asked for a Trolley lift to the water park, they made no accommodation for us getting zero a la cartes all week, and they completely ignored the kids when they went to the swim up bar for a drink. The sand fleas were bad and the beach is open to locals so you get zero time to relax because you're bombarded by solicitation.
Excellent Adults Only resort with great restaurants and nightly entertainment. Food was plentiful with good variety in both the buffet, beach restaurants and a la carte selections. Pools and grounds, as well as common area bathrooms were kept immaculately clean at all times. Guest rooms were spacious and very clean and well stocked. Will definitely visit again!

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Average, not what I expected for the money.
Although I did not eat at any of the restaurants, I heard they were excellent. The buffet was very good, but the beverage service for morning coffee was hit and miss. The hotel is getting a little worn down and should be a 4 star at best.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Alright, But Won't Return
It was an alright place, but not worth the five-star price tag. My least favourite part of the experience was by-far the food. I found the buffet options very limited, and during my stay, I ended up with some digestion issues from some of the fish. Eventually I just played it safe and stuck with plain foods (e.g., toast and jam). I didn't enjoy any of the la carte restaurants; they took too long, portions were very small, and it wasn't that good. Pools were more for socalizing rather than actual[... read more] swimming. Too many smokers also ruined the experience.
On the plus side, very friendly staff, although the poolside entertainment staff were a bit too much at some times (some days I just wanted to truly lounge out and felt pressured/pushed to always participate). Drink servers were very wonderful and super kind, as well as staff in general. Our shuttle drivers were a lot of fun and very friendly. Bonus points as our flight was delayed and they still drove us in the early morning hours. Their patience is most appreciated.
Very good beach for swimming (so no need for the pool really), although the water was a bit dark to see anything. The gym was also quite sufficient and nice (i.e., it gets the job done). We wanted to rent the bicycles but the shop was randomly closed during working hours. Beach Zumba was also fun.
Rooms need some upgrading work. Some items within it seemed rusted and or dated/worn-out. Could use more electric sockets too (only limited amounts, so this made charging electronics a bit difficult). We requested certain items to be restocked in the fridge but they did not honour this.
Finally, while we were granted a late check-out, we were almost double-charged for this. I had to pay with my physical credit card (they wouldn't use it on file), and when we actually checked-out, they wanted to charge me again. I had to pull up my credit card information to show/prove that I already paid for the late check-out. If you get a late check-out, hold onto your receipt.
Overall, it was alright, but I won't be returning.

Bahia Principe Explore Turquesa: Very nice resort
We had good service. Great place for family. Transportation on the site was easy and always present, it is a big site.
The personnel was very kind but many speaks only Spanish, the others speaks English, French and Spanish.
Big room, big pool and a the beach is awesome and very long, with a restaurant and bar at the beach.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Awesome Resort
I loved the hotel and the resort. We loved the fact that you could stay at one and play at the other three. We were with another couple on this holiday.
The staff at our resort were very helpful and easy to deal with. If you needed assistance they helped you right away and tried their best.
The rooms were nice and big not what I expected (I thought they were going to be smaller) but they were perfect. As we had a bad rain day we were able to sit at the table in our room bring in the chai[... read more]rs from our friends room and play dice, cards with the couple that came with us. The fridge was stocked and if we wanted room service it was just a call away.
The rooms were kept very clean.
I loved getting on the tram to take us to the different resorts as it was entertaining and got to meet new people.
There was a variety of food and drinks. Lobby bar the staff were friendly and it was nice to sit in the open with the breeze coming through and watching the nightly shows.
The chocolate donuts were just off the charts.
I would totally recommend this hotel. Like I said stay at one and play at three was just perfect.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Amazing Resort
Our week at the Bahia in Samana was an excellent experience. We especially owe a gratitude of thanks to Jairo who minds the gym daily. He was very kind and added a Smile to the start of our day. Lidia at client services was outstanding in assisting us with reservations for a la carte dinners and booking a special dinner on the beach. Management of this hotel were exceptional in delivery of client services and any questions or needs we requested. Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Great resort
The use of all of the resorts was nice. A little overwhelming as there are 6 resorts that for the most part were all accessible. The staff was amazing. The food was incredible and the rooms were big and comfortable. The only down fall was there was not enough loungers at the pool or beach for the amount of guests at the resort.
Once again everything was wonderful, rooms are getting run down but always clean
The people are amazing!
Though if one staff member doesn’t support a request another will, 95% of staff are fantastic!
Still a race for lounges around pool and beach and lack of umbrellas oh ya!!
But we’re happiest there and will come back
8th time !!
Cheers

Bahia Principe Escape Samana: Beautiful Resort
The Bahia Principe Samana is luxury at its finest. The food being served at the buffet and a la carte's is exceptional. The hotel and grounds are maintained to the same level of perfection giving the the Bahia Principe Resorts something to be proud of. We have been to three other Bahia Principe's at other countries and each one is operated and maintained by the same level of pride and distinction.

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Beautiful Beaches
Stayed at Esmeralda and rooms were beautiful with swim up pools. Beach was fabulous and pools were amazing but had to get up early to get a chair. We were originally booked into punta cana grande but rooms had not been renovated and were pretty bad with broken tiles in bathroom and weird smell in rooms. Very dated and filled with mosquitoes! We paid for upgrade to Esmeralda and we loved it! Food was good and staff were excellent but remember they are on island time so be patient with them. Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: It was ok
The resort is really too big. I hate it when you have to save chairs — but if you didn’t there was no way you would get chairs at the pool, and forget getting something by the beach Buffet food was never hot. Rooms are dated but service staff are excellent. Would I go back - unlikely. Would prefer a smaller resort with perhaps adults only.

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Overall a great resort
Grounds and public areas were clean and well-maintained. Some washrooms needed soap refills which were not done for a few days, which concerned me as Caney restaurant staff were using these facilities. Women's washroom at the "quiet pool" had flushing problems occasionally.
Room was spacious and up-to-date with walk in shower and separate toilet cubicle. Our first room, 96201, overlooked the entertainment area and was not suitable for our quiet-seeking needs. We were well taken care of by Jea[... read more]n, a client experience rep, who quickly found us a new room far from the noise. However, it is difficult to get away from all noise on this property. There are just rooms that are farther from the loudest areas. Our "house concierge", Alfredo, was incredibly helpful in all respects - speaking 3 languages, keeping a small library of books (left behind by tourists) and helping with dinner reservations.
The breakfast buffet was amazing - egg/omelet station and a great selection of breads, pastries, yogurt, fruit (even a salad bar), sausage and bacon, ham and cured meats, pancakes/waffles/crepes, etc. It would have been nice to have oatmeal, granola and whole grain breads offered regularly. A shout out to Jose at the omelet station whose custom made creations made breakfast special, and to Jesus who kept our water and coffee filled promptly!
The lunch buffet did try to provide variety, with salad fixings, pastas and sauces, rice, cold and grilled fish and seafood, pizza, burgers, and grilled meats. Desserts included cakes and pastries, jello, ice cream and fruits. A shout out to Williams who made sure that there was a fresh glass of cerveza offered throughout our lunch time.
The gentle pop music at the Caney buffet was a welcome change from the Latin beats that we encountered throughout the property. We were often able to get our preferred table with a view of the pool.
Our favourite dining options were El Olivo (Mediterranean) and Tanaka (Asian fusion). We did not particularly enjoy Casa Bella and Mikado. We found the house wine quite acceptable as many of the wine list offerings were overpriced and made no sense given the house wine's value. In each of the dining room's overviews, the dress code is highlighted. Unfortunately, this was not strictly enforced.
There are signs all over indicating that guests were not permitted to reserve beach/pool chairs but this was not enforced. After the first week, we regretfully decided "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" and started to put towels and personal belongings on chairs as we were on our way to breakfast. We did try to communicate our displeasure to the resort through their app, which proved quite useless in this regard.
Technology: need your phone to read QR codes at every restaurant. Need to download the Bahia app to access information regarding resort activities and dining reservations. This is done at check-in with assistance from the desk staff (entering the password) which, for us, did not work. Note - if you bring an e-reader, download all your books before you leave as these devices cannot connect with the resort wifi.
Tipping: Too many "touches" throughout the day and the added stress of the front desk cashier not being able to make change when needed. Serving staff presumably receives many $1 bills throughout the day yet needs to take your $10 or $20 away to come back 10 minutes later with your change. Perhaps the resort could add a small service charge or build in a service charge so that guests don't have to think about this. Note: bring $100 - $200 (depending on length of stay) in US$1 bills.
There are shows every evening ranging from karaoke to island historical theatre and dance programs. Most of these are in the open air bar area in which smoking is permitted. This, effectively, kept us away from most of these activities as we react badly to cigarette smoke. The wind on the beach also meant that we did not spend much time there, apart from walking, due to being unable to avoid smoke. People also smoke around the pool without regard for the comfort of others. It would be better if the resort provided designated smoking areas away from poolside.
There are two pools at Esmerelda. One is a "party pool" with live DJ and fun games throughout the day. We spent most of our time at the quiet pool and were well served by Yannick who makes an amazing pina colada!
The beach is amazing - soft, golden sand for miles in each direction. We got in a good 5 kilometers almost every day. This is a busy stretch, with back to back resorts and "people watching" provided much entertainment.
Overall, we would recommend this resort for its great staff, good food, amazing beach and comfortable accommodations.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Not a great resort
Just spent a week here. The app doesn't work to pre-book restaurants if you have more than one room as it needs your room numbers. So, we only managed to get 2 a la cartes. The rooms are dated. The beds are very hard. They did put a mattress topper on after the 1st night which helped. The breakfast buffet is the only good meal at the buffet. There is only 1 person doing omelets so the line is long. The lunch and dinner buffets are terrible. The selection is meager. Not even any potatoes or carve[... read more]d meats. None of the labels matched the food. But, the selection was just so bad. We have stayed at numerous Mexican resorts and this was not a good one. The Cenote snack bar was good and the staff were good. The grounds were nice. The trolleys to go to the other resorts were good. And, the fact that they fumigated in our rooms when they were occupied, and walked around with their full respirators on while they sprayed the foliage all along the paths, while the wind blew that poison all over the guests, was unreal. Would not come back and do not recommend. This is not a 5 star.
