The resort was nice, like I was told nothing fancy. When we first got there the grass was really long, but by the time we left they had it all cut. The pool in our Bungalow area was closed due to them fixing it, as was the Restaurant. We asked for an upgrade to another area due to this fact but were told there was nothing available. We asked for some compensation for not having the pool and we were given nothing. Our room was clean but not very big and there was no mini fridge, so nothing to [... read more]put water or anything in to keep cold. If I did go again I would pick a Villa room. The food was good, better than where we stayed last year. We had trouble with the water in our room, actually our area, would not have hot water in the morning and one morning we had no water. I found the staff not as friendly at this resort as the last one we stayed. There was no beach bar neither, unless you wanted to pay as there were bars but independent ones. Would I stay here again, not sure.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Won't be back
Rooms were run down, food was horrible, only 3 restaurants with very little availability, no room service, no 24 hr food, staff would bring their family to eat making you wait for service, very busy, old rusty single beds, bars would run out of certain drinks like Pina coladas or daiquiris.washrooms were dirty and unkept, Water from buffet smelled bad and made guests sick, milk is powdered milk water, orange juice is tang, outside lights turned off every second day to conserve power making you n[... read more]ot feel safe, if you don't tip all the time servers will become rude or ignore you, burgers are made of spam and are disgusting, buffet food is gross, so is coffee, when you got to market you get harassed to buying or looking at their table. The flight from edmonton was 12-14 hrs each way including layover. The only plus side the beach and way down the beach was a nice seafood restaurant. People smoke every where and majority of guests are Rude French Canadians, Spend the extra money and go to Cancun they rate this resort a 3-3.5 I rate it a 1.5 to 2 at best.got bit by sand fleas,Will definetly not go back. Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Worst resort and experience I have ever encountered
Club Amigo Atlantico in Guardalavaca is the worst resort I have ever been to. The food was horrible, the premises were very run down, the rooms were bad, no bottled water for drinking, no hot water for showers, there were sand fleas on the beach, and now I have welts all over my legs. The trip home was even worse. We flew from London Ontario to North Bay Ontario, and we could not land because of fog. Why wouldn't London notify North Bay about the weather conditions before taking off? We cir[... read more]cled the airport for an hour, then went back to Toronto. It was midnight at this time. I thought for sure we would be put up in a hotel room and fly out in the morning. But, we had to wait until 1:00 a.m. for a bus to come and drive us 4 hours to North Bay. We were exhausted, could not sleep, the weather was brutal, freezing rain, the bus had only one head light, was sliding around the road, I was afraid for my life actually. Got to North Bay at 5:00 a.m. We started a journey back to Canada at 10:00 a.m. the previous day. It took us 19 hours to return home. Unacceptable. I will never go to Cuba again, or will never fly Sunwing again. We had to pay to upgrade our room in Cuba and we also paid to upgrade our seats on the plane and then had to take a bus. Unbelievable.

Carisol los Corales: Worst vacation ever
It was definitely our worst ever vacation. The resort is still repairing the damage from hurricane Sandy so we knew the rooms would not be great and paid the additional price to upgrade to a bungalow. BIG MISTAKE. There are feral dogs running loose on the grounds and we had a bitch with four pups living under our bungalow. They barked and howled constantly through the night resulting in very little sleep for us. The dogs roam around the resort even into the open air dining areas. They all suffer[... read more] from mange, are flea infested and wormy. I complained to the manager about the dogs every day and was assured things would be corrected. STILL WAITING.
The food in the buffet was the worst we've seen, even for Cuba. Food normally served hot was cold and the cold cuts , cheese, fruit etc was not chilled. Food hygene was non existent. The food handlers did not wear gloves and the food was not covered so the numerous flies were free to crawl on it.
The beach was stony as there is a coral reef just offshore and had only a small area suitable for swimming.
On the upside the staff were great, doing their best with the little they had available to meet your needs.
All told we would not recommend the Carisol to any one

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Beautiful location and scenery!
While we stayed in the most economical rooms, they were always clean. Not overly large or fancy, but we were only there to sleep and shower.
Food exceeded my expectations from a prior trip to Cuba at a different place. The a la cartes were very good quality.
Lots of activities included in the price. Loved the choices and options for swimming, eating and drinking.
The staff everywhere on the resort were extremely fun and friendly.
Best bang for your buck!

Club Amigo Mayanabo: Not quite paradise.... but I will be back again!
The resort is very nice. The ground are well trimmed, public areas are pretty clean. My room was kept well cleaned but the bathroom needed a few items taken care of.... sink tap was loose, shower door kept hitting a screw preventing it from sliding smoothly. Even though the closet is not on a outside wall, the cement/plaster work does attract moisture, so make sure you leave the closet door open a few inches on either side so air can flow into the closet.
I got tired of the buffet by day 5[... read more]. Most thing were the same everyday, and I found some of the dishes too salty (but that is just me). The waitresses are GREAT! By the third day I did not have to ask for coffee with breakfast. None of the male waiter even asked (no tip for them!) My ex-wife has been there 3 or 4 times, so she told me to be prepared and bring my own condiments. But they now have mustard, ketchup, hot sauce at the buffet. They do have black pepper shakers on the table, but I would have to still be shaking it a year later to get enough pepper out for my omelette. OH... and they have excellent ice cream at lunch and dinner!
The pool was nice and clean, but don't step on the grate around the pool, what isn't missing is crumbing. I had my heel break a section of it. The beach area was clean and raked. As much as they try to keep on top of the algae it creeps right back. Bring water shoes for swimming at the beach.

Carisol los Corales: Disspointed. Very.
Where do I start? First night we got there, it was a long line to sign in. Only 2 guys at the reception, but only one was working. His name was Felipe, and he was very nice to us, I can't complain. But man, we waited more than 1 hour to be signed in. In this time, our child's stroller was stolen from right there, in the lobby. Of course, by the time we realized, it was too late. They said maybe it was left in the bus, but we knew we had it when in the lobby, and it was confirmed the next day by [... read more]the bus driver and the tour guide, that nothing was left in the bus. I followed up at reception (even with the manager Alejandro) on a daily basis, but they didn't seem impressed, or offered us anything as reimbursement...a better room or a voucher for next trip...not that they would ever see me there again. Now I feel like I should have asked to open a police investigation, perhaps then they would have cared a bit...fe days after my son's lifesaver was stolen right by the pool. Again, nobody gives a damn. They raise their shoulders and carry on.
Anyways, the rooms. That night, we were assigned two rooms in Carisol, but guess what? Carisol side was closed. No service. So how, I ask, did they assign us the rooms, and didn't tell the Trip Central agent that they were in the side of the hotel which is closed? We walked with two kids so far away, from Los Corales to Carisol, until we got to a part which didn't even have lights, we were like in one of those horror movies, where you can expect anything. And then, when we opened the rooms, aside from the fact they looked awful and worn down, they were occupied! I mean, men's booths and tshirts on the chair, beds unmade...of course, we walked all the way back, and then spent close to 2 hours in the lobby, while the guy at the reception made calls after calls to see in which rooms we could be placed, because they had no available rooms, were booked to full capacity at Los Corales. Unbelievable. But after a long trip with 2 small kids, we were finally in our rooms at 11PM. We were placed in one of the junior suites, which was the only thing they had, and in their opinion was the best. While it certainly looked better then the first set of rooms, it was still bad. Broken windows, toilet worked, showed didn't. It did next morning, with cold water. And it was still far away from Los Corales. Far away from everything. We asked to be moved as soon as the next available rooms in Los Corales were vacated. And so we moved the next day. The room was also bad, but something we would live with. Fridge not working, A/C working on and off, big cockroach coming out of a hole in the bathroom night #1 and night #2 (we solved this problem by placing a heavy towel on top of it after first few nights)...but what can I say? At least we were back in civilization...next to the pool, close to the restaurant. So we tried to make the best of it. The people are nice, but they don't go crazy to serve you. They are overworked, because of the Carisol side being closed, the Corales side is booked to full capacity, and they don't have enough staff. I can tell you that I've been to Cuba many times before, and I know not to expect luxury, but this was the worst Cuba experience I had. And the prostitution that goes on, right there in plain view, it's absolutely disgusting. What explanations you think I could find for my kids who were wondering what 20-year olds were doing with 70-80-year olds? Never again will I go to this resort, and I would not recommend. I am not sure they should even be allowed to be open, because it is full of hazards. Open cable laying around, holes in the ground, they would never pass an inspection back here. The people are nice, what can I say? The lady who cleaned my room, Milo, was lovely. Same with the staff in the kitchen, at the bars, the night entertainment, I'll give them that, they are all beautiful truly nice cuban people. But it doesn't make up for the terrible experience we've had. We couldn't wait to get out of there and go home. And for me, a Cuba lover, to say that, believe me, it must have been bad!

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Great time!
You get what you pay for, as one of the cheapest options in the Caribbean (at least when we traveled) there were some 'problems', but those problems are nothing compared to the positive experience you will have with your vacation.
I say 'problems' because really, they're not, but as many north Americans have higher expectations, some will be bothered by them. So if you suffer from first world problems disorder, you may be bothered by these 'problems'.
'Problems':
1. Only 1 buffet open fo[... read more]r breakfast and lunch, this can cause line ups during breakfast, though lunch wasn't too bad. A second dinner buffet wasn't open when we first got there, but opened before we left and the staff said it would be open for just dinner until February or so. The staff didn't inform guests that the second buffet was open... so it was usually much quieter, my wife and I spread the word as much as we could, but I even had one guest call me a liar and didn't believe me - some people, jeeze.
2. Our room was not in the best shape, with a number of things worn out and the AC likely won't last much longer, but everything worked. Since we only ever used our room to get ready or sleep, it really doesn't matter. Why travel to sit in your room the whole time - we never even turn the TV on.
3. The 24 hour snack bar actually closes during breakfast and dinner, so maybe it should be called the 18 hour snack bar with 24 hour drinking.
If you can get past those 'problems', you will realize you're in Cuba, the weather is amazing, the beach is incredible, that you're on vacation and going to have a good time. There are tons of activities included, paddle boats, a catamaran ride, there is also the games room, tennis and basketball courts, 24 hour drink service, daily activities and shows, plenty of nearby shops with everything you need, and the local vendors market for souvenirs is right there beside the hotel as well. The kids club which was just great, though our son was too young to be left alone with the staff, (minimum age 4) we absolutely would have left him in their capable hands, and a number of other parents did.
The best part about the hotel was definitely the staff. In every section of the hotel, no matter where we went, in all departments, every Cuban we met working there was just awesome.
And while I didn't put this as a 'problem', I realize maybe some people will be bothered by it... but I don't like to think there is anyone ignorant enough to consider it a 'problem'... especially a Canadian. But, here it goes... in Cuba, all beaches are public, and a popular spot for the locals to go to the beach to relax just like you is right beside the hotel. This means you get to vacation with a few locals, make new Cuban friends and maybe bring a few free beers, hamburgers or shots down to your new friends. If you're shy, they stick to themselves and don't bother anyone, they're there to relax after all. Even those who have things to sell are polite and not aggressive.
Overall we spent 2 full weeks, minus 1 day on a tour at the hotel and never got bored, sick or hungry. We had a really good time, made many friends and are already planning on going back to the Holguin area, we would definitely stay at this hotel again, but there are so many to see and we like to try and see them all... but we will take a visit to Atlantico and visit some of our friends if they are still there.
This hotel is good for singles, couples, families, those looking to party, those just wanting a quiet time, anyone can come here and enjoy themselves.
This hotel is not good for anyone expecting 4 or 5 star quality on a 3 star budget.

Hotel Caracol: Hotel Caracole Santa Lucia Cuba
The Caracole rooms have been given a face lift since my last stay and look great with a nice upgrade in the bathrooms. The safes have also been updated . As always the maid service was great. The dining room was fine, linen always fresh and the staff attentive. There was always fresh fish and shrimp on the menu and you can always find things to fill your plate with. Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Lesson learned - never book last minute over the phone
I have been to Club Amigo before and it is a delightful 3 star resort where you get full value for your travel dollar, so my star ratings are based on that experience.
Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding concerning my departure date when I recently booked a last minute trip there with TripCentral.ca over the phone and I ended up missing my flight, not having a vacation and am pretty sure I have lost all my money ! Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: It truly is a resort for old and new friends "Amigo"
For those who have travelled to Cuba before will understand what I'm about to say...Once you are settled into your 1st, or 2nd or 3rd assigned room, paid for your security box, removed or re-arranged your furniture to suit your stay you will be well on your way to a fantastic vacation.
For a stress free vacation at this resort or any, lock your money, passport, air line tickets, and anything else valuable in your security lock. This way you don't have to worry...the less you have on ,and wit[... read more]h you, the more you have the freedom to just be and enjoy this lovely resort in Cuba.
The sandy beach and healing ocean is AMAZING...yes, it's public, and yes it's safe enough but always be wise.
I must say that when you see the fat old ugly men with very young local gals please don't let it affect you too long. don't give it much energy it could dampen your trip...There are many wonderful people from all over...instead make new friends and ALWAYS REMAIN POSITIVE.
The Cuban employees at the hotel are happy people...smile and they will love you. for the gals out there...the young lady who does the manicures/pedicures/and hair is truly a big heart of a person. manicure is only 5 pesos :)
The market next door to the hotel is fun...I would recommend purchasing your souvenirs at the market...great deals for silver and more.
The excursions...horse back riding OMG FUN :) the Indian resort with dinner INTERESTING and an EXCELLENT MEAL :)
They have two banks on the resort...or for easy access you can get your money exchanged at the front desk...same exchange rate.
Now, for the food...There is plenty to choose from and Cuban food is clean and healthy for our bodies...so enjoy, but be careful not to eat too much especially when you first get there lest you have issues going to the bathroom :) slow down and chew your food. LOL
There wasn't much for entertainment, but for Christmas the entertainment and dance was a lot of fun...I decided to dance and receive some of that beautiful exciting Cuban energy...it worked! I was energized, and even now, being back in Ontario I feel energized and new :)
THANKS CUBA AND ALL MI AMORE
All in All...this resort is a good one...It's up to you to make your vacation a happy, safe, and healthy one!
SMILE ALWAYS...KEEP POSITIVE...AND LOVE EVERYONE...except the old fat ugly guy (feel sorry for those) instead :)
bye for now...looking forward to trying a new place next time :)

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: super belle semaine
The room and food really sucked. The beach was nice as well as the drinks. Good service, but the grounds need some work. There were a lot of peddlers on the beach which was annoying. Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: What a dump
This was a poorly run resort. Exterior lighting was turned off at night leaving you to walk in complete darkness in the guest room halls and stair wells and grounds. Carisol los Corales: Great place to stay
No rain only sunshine for two weeks. If you like it hot this is the warmest area in Cuba. Room and food adequate. Staff wonderful!!!. Relaxing place to stay. Free bus to city for the day a great bonus. Great bartenders. Lots of activities around the pool every day.
Club Amigo Mayanabo: What a disaster of a trip! Booking 7855731 Robert and Sharon Morgan
Cubana air going and coming home was the high light of the trip.
The balance was a disaster to say the least. Arrived in Cameguey at 10:30AM, ready to leave at 11:15, sat in bus for nearly 2 hours before departing for hotel. Holasun rep was terrible. Arrived at hotel at 2:30pm, everyone upset.
Both my wife and I got very serious food poisoning at Club Amigo Mayanabo. Bob was sick 3rd,4th, and 5th of Dec.
Sharon was sick 4th,5th,6th, Dec. Under doctor's care. Basically we could not eat or d[... read more]rink anything. We had 2 days together as a couple, Wed and Thursday Dec 7th and 8th, and left for home Friday at 6am. In essence we lost all our holiday, and $1558.00.
