Good Times

We had a great time. The Benny's restaurant was great but the Italian restaurant was not that good. The buffet had a good variety and the ham and cheese sandwich at the snack bar was delicious. I would go back.

Beautiful Beach

A beautiful Beach, lots of different areas to relax, have fun, good food, great piano bar, with chocolate fountain and fruit, we will return, prices are great for this resort. Next time we return we will stay either in the bungalows, or the villas, the villas are closer to the ocean, main hotel has a nice view of the ocean if facing the front, no balconies, a bit noisy.

Good for young people to party

Not a place for good food or exotic drinks but entertainment is fantastic. Public beach is fantastic for snorkeling or just swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. Also boardwalk between Brisa’s and Club Amigo is pleasant for a stroll.

Great time in Cuba

The resort is very nice. The beach is the best in Cuba. Our room was clean with fresh towels every day. The food was good. Night entertainment is fun. We had great time and definitely will recommend this resort to our friends.

Great updates

We were here 4 yrs ago and the updates were great. They have ice now. It was a major letdown when we couldn't get ice. Our drinks cooled off fast before. Now ice is available all over the resort. We have had minor issues with the food in the past. We weren't sure if it was the different food, the buffet or our own tummy issues. However, this trip was much much better. You just walked up and sat down. They wouldn't let you get anything yourself. It was a true dinning experience, with table service. This saved us from buffet issues. I need to say, we weren't having issues with the buffet, or do I know of any travellers who did. The buffet omelette station , as well as the pasta stood were awesome. I truly believe it was our tummies adjusting to the local foods. Our villa was great. We updated to a villa our first time there in 2011. The upgrade to s villa really made the difference for us. this time we booked one and loved it. We were fortunate enough to get the king bed and a separate living room. This was great in the mornings. I would wake up early and watch tv, letting my girlfriend sleep in. The AC worked well, and there was plenty of hot water. The staff were warm and welcoming as usual. I did notice a larger number of staff speaking more English. This was great too. My Spanish isn't enough to manage on my own. The weather was great for us. The power went out resort wide. The main hotel generator kicked in and it turned into a lobby party. It didn't bother most of us. It actually gave us cause to meet other travellers and socialize more. We took the Paradise Island excursion. It is worth the money, if you like sailing, snorkelling and seeing African animals. You drive among the animals in their own environment. It was completely safe. Club Amigo is a 3.5 star resort. It feels like a 4 star. I have stayed at 4 stars, but for the money, Club Amigo is worth the $840 (out of Halifax) for the money. My only complaint is that there is no wifi on the resort. The Internet cafe is 6 CUC per hour and the PCs-Internet are too slow. I didn't miss it. But having that connection is cheaper than calling home. Other resorts in the area have wifi. Hopefully Club Amigo will catch up and add it for our next trip there.

Amazing resort and great employees

I just can't imagine going to a different hotel. This where my Cuban friends are that I have known for yrs. I feel like I'm going to see part of my family ever time I visit. I have visited their homes and farms.

My best experience in Cuba!

I have been in La Habana, Matanzas and Varadero several times. But I can assure you this has been the best trip so far. We stayed at the bungalows section and everything was clean and in good conditions. Not complains at all about the rooms. Personally I didn't like the Tropical and Atlantic section. I liked the bungalows and villas section and I am sure that the little extra money worth what you have as a plus for your room. Amenities are okay. You have the advantage of have access to several [... read more] pools and other facilities. Honestly, I don't know how people can complain about the food. It was not only awesome, but diverse and vast. Beef, pork, chicken, fish, pasta, veggies, fruit, everything just delicious. They also have several specialties restaurants, we tried 8 of 9 and non regrets at all. I have to confess that I gained 4 pounds in 7 days!!! In summary, a great resort with nice people to enjoy your vacation. We are coming back!!!

Cuba 2015

Hotel was aged, but bed was clean. A little too far from the airport for our liking.. We had oceanview...Staff were rude, A lot of return customers(their 12 or 13th time) and the staff knew them so they got served first no matter where you were...(Bar or Restaurant), and if you didn' t tip or speak any Spanish you got no service at all.......For the price we paid, it was an amazing time..Definetely not a 3 star though. FINALLY FOUND MY GO TO RESORT!!!!

Club amigo had the best food, entertainment and beaches of ANYWHERE I've travelled to in Cuba. The food at Brisas (to the right of the resort) was better and you can buy a day pass for the buffet and sign up for an a la carte if you wish. Club amigos a la carte's were all very good especially the fish at El Fuerte? don't know how to spell it. I flew with Cubana Air and it was very smooth with a lot more leg room and comfier seats than Air Canada. True 3 star

We go to this hotel in Apr. as it is cheap then. We go to see the people we are trying to help with their homes etc. so that area is our choice.The front desk girls are not very friendly or helpful. There is a man there though that is great. The food is good and if all restaurants are open you have lots of variety. The main dining room is ok , but can get quite hot because they don't seem to turn on the AC.The hotel has been getting a little better over the last two years but still has lots to i [... read more]mprove on. Rooms are fine even in the oldest part. Of course some are very run down.The grounds are ok and quite large.Sometimes the beach is a little too crowded with locals and some seem to leave lots of garbage around.Overall if you get it cheap you get what you pay for, if you pay too much on trip then it is not worth it. We are not fussy and just need bed and shower so we get by.

Boring resort

The resort was good value for the money I paid. I thought it was to big and you had to walk far everytime you wanted to go somewhere. The food was okay and the service the same. The resort was full with locals and french Canadians. So if you don't speak other languages you won't have many people to talk to.

It was ok

To big to cut up. No one smiled. No music. I think if there was music at all the bars and coffee stations they would be happier. It would have been nice if or representative was there when she said she would be there so we could get information on thinks would have been nice. Had to ask Sunwing rep and got all the information we needed.

Good enough

The place was clean, quiet. The food was bland but OK. The drinks were hit and miss and really didn't like the miniature plastic glasses. (Smart travelers took insulated mugs of a decent size -- I will be smart next time) Rooms were clean and staff friendly. Snorkeling was so-so. The water was crystal clear but limited fish species. Didn't appreciate the beach chairs being put away at 4:30 but everything else was good enough. The a la carte restaurants were no real improvement on the buffet.

Worth for what you paid

This's the fourth time I'd been in Cuba but was the first time I visited to Holguin. I booked the room in the Villa section. It's away from the Main section. It took about 8 mins walk the the lobby, so it's a very quiet area. The room was very large I ever had before in other hotel in Cuba. The room was clean and everything was in good working order. The staff of the hotel were very friendly. The foods were one of the weak point. Most of the same foods every day, but I understand that most of the hotels in Cuba are the same. Anyway, there were lots of foods and should not go hungry if you are not picky. There's a very beautiful view along from the hotel. Nice to walk on the water front. The beach is a public beach but is a beautiful one with white sand and blue water.

Not has bad as people say

I don't have to many complaints but I am the type of person to take things as it is and make the best of it. check in: I had no problem. Out of all the times I went away I got to say this was the fastest and easiest check in with no problems. we even got our room earlier then said. Room: We had garden view standard. They have a filtered water station in the main lobby or you can get water for the bar or a big bottle for 1cuc in their store workers: They loved me and my friends. We never waited for anything and always go serviced fast at the bars. water, alcohol or our morning coffees. There was some workers that where lazy and took awhile to get water or any service in the buffet. buffets: it's cuba so don't expect high end food. Not a lot to choose from but gab what you like and you'll be fine. They had amazing omelettes and pizza. pool and beaches were amazing. Every hotel has pros and cons just go open minded. you are there to relax and have a good time off. Your hardly in the room anyways so size shouldn't matter. you know what kind of food you stomach can and can't handle so don't try every single thing. show respect to the workers and they give it right back

Nice place

Bar tenders, wait staff, front desk, AMAZING! Management/security, HORRIBLE. very unhospitable & rude. I had a great time & food was good. Beach was amazing. But i did see and hear of Canadians being accused, treated unreasonable, kicked off the resort, kicked out of cuba. It was insane!

Club amigo

the villas are very good . the staff at resort are the best . we will be going back in the near future . We have been there six times , allways enjoyed staying there . regards Sandra and Kevin williams .

Good value

We were there from April 17 to 24 and the weather was perfect. We stayed in an ocean view villa with a hammock at our door. Very relaxing. We enjoyed having breakfast at Bennie's and also enjoyed the coffee. We loved the wine cellar and were able to purchase good wine at a reasonable price. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a cheap get away.

Large resort

Hotel and rooms average for Cuba.grounds were ok.dining was average. Staff was friendly. Had an issue with original room, front desk rectified the problem. Recommend 3rd or 4th floor room at far end to avoid noise from bar area.

Relaxing Resort

We have stayed at this resort 3 times. We choose to stay here for a variety of reasons. The number 1 reason is price, traveling as a family can become expensive but Club Amigo Guardalavaca is very reasonably priced. We also enjoy the beaches and the coral reef as the children enjoy snorkeling. The daily flea market is always a big hit with us. As well as the shops across the road from the resort. This trip we found a hidden gem, the pizza shop heading to the beach has the best pizza around. The food is reviewed by many we talked to as the best food in Cuba, we can be a very fussy family to feed but never went hungry while there. The wait staff and servers are very efficient and entertaining. We enjoy our trips and are looking forward to returning again soon.
