Beautiful resort, the flowers, plants, grass, pools, beach were all so amazing. The lobbies at the different hotels were all different but unique and beautiful, Our room was really nice and clean as well the resort itself. We enjoyed all the restaurants and booked a few of the specialty ones on our first day, We recommend that you go to the tour guide/ package /welcome meeting as you do get some inside information as well as some other information on booking excursions etc. We recommend that you[... read more] take a walk around the whole resort to see all the lobbies, pools, restaurants and see which ones that you can access. as we talked to some people on the plane going home and they did not realize they had so many areas where they could have spent some time and enjoyed it as much as we did. Would like to suggest that the hotel has an information board or to notify the guests of the entertainment or activities as we missed out on some things that it was too late for us. In closing we will definitely recommend this resort area and especially the Amber for those who would like some adult time and some quiet time, thank you

Fabulous time, our new favorite!
Stayed for the first time in the adults only Ambar but toured all the other resorts. I simply cannot stress how hard the staff work, ALL staff to make the premises the most beautiful ever. Every single person makes sure you are happy 100% of the time. You want total R&R stay at the Ambar, looking for family fun, the other resorts have it. Perfect for couples and families alike!

Nice resort.
Huge resort, clean with well kept grounds. Beach is fantastic. Any seaweed was raked up daily and taken away. There were plenty of huts on the beach that provided shade. Pool was very close to the water so you could easily take advantage of both. However, if you wanted an umbrella you would have to reserve your spot by 6 am! There were a variety of restaurants to choose from.

Everything about this resort is 1st class
Buildings, grounds, food and the staff are superb. Our room was very central to the beach and restaurants. Buffet breakfast and dinner at the Ambar 2 were well prepared and the variety was fantastic. We love the beach and the long walks that you could take.

Top Notch Resort
The Bahia Principe Ambar is a great resort, we really enjoyed our 10 day stay in February 2016. This was our second visit to Bahia Principe, it's a huge complex with lots to do, good entertainment and shopping on site. The food was fantastic, lots of choice in type of food and restaurants, beach-side, near the lobbies and pools.
The grounds and beach are immaculate and rooms well kept. The staff were all very helpful and truly seemed to enjoy interacting with guests. It was a few hundred dollars[... read more] more to go adult only, but was a quieter vacation and we liked that both at our pool and in the adult restaurants. We also visited the 4 sister resorts in the complex where children are allowed and while noisier, it was still nice everywhere we went :-)
The only minor complaint we had is that to get a lounge at the pool or beach in the morning you had to get up really early and go out and put your towel down. We didn't do that, just took our chances and most times we got 2 lounges together after about a 15 minute search but we did find it annoying to see that some people left their stuff reserving lounges and didn't even sit on them until the afternoon which denied those lounges to someone else.
We've been to over 20 Caribean resorts and this one is among the top resorts. We will definitely go back here again and will consider other Bahia Principe hotels as well.

Loved it!
We had a fabulous vacation at Ambar from March 7-13. Rooms and grounds were immaculate. Beautiful scenery. Excellent service and delicious food! Only complaint is lack of lounge chairs at pool and beach unless you get up at 5 am to go "reserve" one by putting a towel on it.

Our honeymoon at the Ambar was great! The staff left no request unanswered. Adults only beach/pool was welcome since our own kids have long moved on. Getting a la carte reservations was a little tough, but the buffet was great on it's own! We plan to consider Grand Bahai as our future brand for resorts.

Very Large, & wonderful resort
We loved the resort, staying at the newer area, Ambar 2, the rooms were very nice and always cleaned. The grounds are very well maintained, the buffet's were well stocked, & lots to choose from. Some of the best food we've had at buffets. The al-la cartes were easy to book & very good, lots of variety/types to choose from. The pools were clean, the beach was amazing.

A most difficult experience!
First of all this facility is too large. Trying to service adults18+, adults with children exclusive and general family areas just does not work. We were in the 18+ Amber area which is divided into 3 areas. Thankfully we were in area 1 close to beach and facilities. Amber 2 and 3 are further back and quite a ways from most resturants and importantly the beach. The pool at Amber 1 is where all activity takes place and is very lively. The pool for Amber 2&3 has no shade except for umbrellas and is[... read more] quite dead however there are available chairs. This is not the case for pool 1 and the beach. There are just too many people looking for too few spaces. This is really apparent on the beach which is very beautiful and great. You must get there by 6am to place belongings to get your place. This is supposed to be a vacation not a race at crack of dawn to get your chairs. We were told that the 18+ Amber has over 1000 rooms so space does not meet this number as per pools and beach space.
Another real issue is resturant reservations. This is insane! We took previous advice and sent requests prior. We did get most choices however requested times were all over the place. Two were 9pm which was too late for us and when we tried to change it was a fight and time consuming with no success. The desire of the management is for the guests is to use the buffets and not the individual specific resturants. We were told repeatedly that they were fully booked with no availability. This was totally false! We observed every time at most 50% occupancy ...unbelievable! We requested a meeting 3 times with general manager to talk about these issues to no avail. They made all the right noises but I in our estimation only talk. To the positive the resturants are very good particularly Rodizio and the beach front bar lunch. Staff in the food facilities were very good which was a bright spot . Our low rating for service is not the general staff but the management staff. Rooms were good however as previously stated location is the key Amber 1 older rooms vs newer further away. We did have a very unusual experience on the day before we left. Room was not cleaned by 4:30- when my wife returned room was open with the cleaner sitting on the bed charging his phone on our charge system...unbelievable! We wrote a formal complaint with again no reponse.
The grounds are beautiful and we'll kept with workers constantly working.
In conclusion we usually do not complain and usually suckl it up. We were not impressed with the overall resort however there were bright spots. You wait for a winter get away pay good money and expect maybe a few minor issues. This was not the case.

Above Expectations
This resort was recommended to us by our travel agent. My boyfriend and I are 24 and 26. Upon arrival at the resort we were dropped off at Ambar 3 for check in. The staff sat us down and started explaining about the envelopes we would receive. It was very difficult to hear the staff instructions in that lobby but the envelopes were self explanatory. We were given a welcome drink (Coco Mango) which I loved. Once they had our signatures and information we waited to be loaded into shuttles to deliv[... read more]er us to our rooms. This took over half an hour as they did not have enough shuttles for all of us. It was really too lengthy of a process, we just wanted to get to our room and go eat.
We were very overwhelmed about the size of this resort when we first arrived but after the first day we realized that it was not bad at all. We were in villa 84 in Ambar 2 and it was beautiful. We were right in front of the jaccuzi area and first Ambar pool. The pool area was beautiful and well maintained. We loved the pool side sushi bar! Our view was not great (we faced out onto a construction area) but after a few days we came to enjoy how quiet that location was at night. When we first arrived in our room they had balloons and flowers everywhere. We were disappointed by the half empty or completely empty shampoos and bath gels in the bathroom and by the opened beverages in our fridge. We called housekeeping to fix these issues but instead of replacing everything they ended up taking away our bath wash and not replacing them for a few days and only leaving us with shampoo and lotion. The room was beautiful, everything was spotless and the looked brand new. The tub was a bit worn looking but it was still usable.
We would advise people to pre-book your A La Carte's before they arrive. Luckily we were able to get a few 9:15 reservations but that was all that was available. The only three restaurants we could get into were Don Pablo, Bella Italia and Maiko. Don Pablo was fabulous but you get extremely small portions of food. My salad was three pieces of lettuce, four tomatoes, two pebble sized dollops of cheese and one dollop of dressing. The food was delicious though and the atmosphere was lovely. Bella Italia (located at Esmerelda) was a joke. It took us forever to find the place because the signage at Esmerelda is really confusing. The appetizers (buffet style) were cold and mostly fried foods. We both ordered the lobster and salmon pizza. When it came it was drowning in oil and was basically inedible. The lobster was actually shrimp which was also disappointing. We left this restaurant extremely disappointed. Maiko (at the Punta Cana) was nice. The Tapenyaki show was alright but short. The chef didn't really do any tricks while he was making our food. I liked that you got to try all the proteins he cooked (normally you get one protein). Dessert was disappointing as they didn't have the one thing on the menu everyone wanted. Fried ice cream. They gave no explanation for why they weren't serving it and just kept saying no when we asked.
The buffets at Ambar were delicious. A lot of variety and different themes every night. I most enjoyed the lobster on the grill and the pasta station. Breakfast was the same, a lot of variety in the food. We loved how long the buffets were open for during the day. They had long hours so we never missed a meal. They were very on top of refilling the food and replacing when empty. The staff coming by the tables were pretty good, sometimes they forgot to get you a drink but if you asked again you would get an apology and they would bring it to you.
The beach was beautiful. We didn't spend a ton of time there because we loved our pool but we enjoyed a few afternoons there. There are always loungers available but not in the shade. If you want shade, get up early. If you don't care then you will be fine. Maintenance was always grooming the beach and so it was well taken care of. No seaweed anywhere. We walked down to the next resort (The Majestic) and their beach was disgusting. Covered in weed.
Maintenance was crazy at this resort. Staff were always cleaning and fixing things. When you told them about something not fixing they fixed it immediately. They wash down lounge chairs daily at night and the pool side as well. They also hose the paths down to keep them clean. The grounds were beautiful and nothing was out of place. It seems like cleanliness is a big priority at Ambar.
The staff were friendly but the language barrier is difficult at times. We googled basic words so we could communicate with those staff who don't know any English. I would recommend learning some Spanish basics before visiting Dominican!
There are shuttles running up and down the resort so you don't have to walk everywhere. They run from 6am to 3am which is amazing and they come every 2 minutes or so.
The shop keepers on Ambar are not pushy which we liked. We went to the Punta Cana and got hassled by the vendors. The only plus of the outside vendors is you can haggle with them for better prices.
The spa was amazing but expensive. Best massage I have ever had. Very clean premises and friendly staff. The gym was run down a bit. Some machines were broken and its in the basement so its not very appealing.
On Valentines day the resort went all out. There were balloons and streamers and signs everywhere. They had a lot of activities to take part in and special cocktails were served.
The bars on Ambar are really good and the liquors you get are definitely worth the extra money you pay for Ambar.
The butler service is slightly confusing. We apparently were supposed to meet ours but never did. We didn't even really understand their purpose but it didn't take away from our trip in any way. Pillow service was cool and so was the aromatherapy sprays they offered.
We had a photoshoot on the resort with Henry the photographer. It was free and you could buy however many photos you wanted at the end (on a CD). The session was 45 minutes long and we took photos in the gardens and on the beach. They were high quality and high resolution. Definitely would recommend for couples going here!
Overall we were really impressed by Ambar and would return in the future. We would recommend this resort to others. Some people said it was too big but we enjoyed all the options available on the property.

Great resort - treated like royalty !
Rooms were extraordinary. Food was the best I've had at a resort - eating lamb, duck and lobster - even for lunches ! Staff were very friendly and professional.
We travelled with Tripcentral and Air Canada - they looked after us - everything was taken care of - excellent service.
Only complaint I have for the resort is the chair reservations at the beach - the only way to get a lounge chair overlooking the ocean at the beach was to go reserve a chair at 4am. Even around the pool - there were a l[... read more]ot of chairs, but only way to get an umbrella was to go reserve it at 7:30 am. The resort should not allow this to happen.

Wonderful Holiday
Second time at this resort but we stayed in the punta cana section the first time and decided to try Ambar. Best decision .We were 7 people and had 4 rooms , 2 in Ambar 1 and 2 in Ambar 2 despite having requested all rooms in Ambar 1 because we are all beach bums and wanted to be close to the beach. The rooms in Ambar 2 are newer than 1 but both were equally beautiful. Check in is done at the Ambar 3 lobby (this is only a lobby - there is not an Ambar3 section). They checked us all in together a[... read more]s a group and the girl that checked us in was not very friendly. Fortunately it was the only time this happened during our 7 days there. All staff no matter where you were , beach , lobby etc went out of their way to accommodate us. We were beside the Ambar 2 pool and the only time we were there was when we would walk through it to get to the beach. It was like walking through a cemetery it was so quiet. Ambar 1 pool on the other hand was very busy and not so quiet when we walked through it on our way to the beach. We had to get up every morning before 6 and get a palapa because we wanted shade and if you don't you wont get a chair let alone shade. By 7 oclock you wont get one and by 8 good luck finding a chair. There are guys on the beach with yellow shirts that brush the sand off your chair all day long and they will find you a chair if you cant find one. The waiters on the beach are very friendly and work very hard running up and down the beach to get drinks for you . The beach is amazing and hardly any seaweed all week and if there was it was raked up very quickly.
I had e-mailed the resort ahead of time for a la cartes reservations but didn't have any when we got there but had no problem booking 3 for the 7 of us although I did hear other people saying that they could not get any.The restaurant by the beach was our go to for lunch. They bbq'd every day , chicken pork , beef and burgers. The buffets were nice and we found that the Ambar 2 buffet better and less busy. All 3 a la cartes we went to were very good and a change from the buffet.
We walked around a lot at night checking out all the lobbys and found entertainment in every lobby (seems like they rotate from one lobby to the other ) so you never know what is where and in what lobby. We tried to go to the Micheal Jackson show but it was so crowded we could not get in but sat outside and listened so if you want to go, go early. We did not go to any other show so can't comment on them. We did go to the pueblo principe a lot for shopping and once at night where they had a band and people were dancing. We had blast and wanted to return but ran out of time.
If you are thinking about booking this resort don't hesitate. Champagne for breakfast , caviar ,sushi ,lobster for dinner , great a la cartes , great drinks, beautiful rooms , great weather. One thing I will say though, when we were booking we noticed that all the sections were pretty much the same price. If you don't have kids choose the Ambar it is much less crowded and you have more room at the beach. They are packed like sardines in the other sections. There is no way this resort can expand anymore because of the limited beach space unless they build to the left where there seems to be space between the next resort.
We loved this resort and hope that we can return soon for a third visit.
