Muthu Playa Varadero: Terrible !

This place is disguisting. Far from a 4 star resort. I was hospitalized with ecoli upon returning. I was covered in bed bug bites. The staff are so rude and ignorant. I explained when leaving I never used my towel card as we brought towels but had to pay for them anyways. The food isn't fit to eat. Stay home if you are thinking about going here. Don't waste your money

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Wonderful Resort!!!

Resort was wonderful. Only issue was check-in 6 am flight from Toronto to Valadero Check in was supposed to be at 3 pm We did not get into our room until after 5:30 pm Exhausting first day!! Room was nice....however....floors seemed gritty constantly. Grounds were fabulous. Food has greatly improved. Would recommend

Muthu Playa Varadero: Muthu Playa Varadero in Varadero Beach - not sooooo good

It was an experience for me in any possible way - generally, the hotel is in need for a major renovations starting from the painting internal areas; updating the showers/bathrooms with changing shower bases as well; upgrading the A/C in rooms to allowing regulating it according ( presently you can turn in On and Off only); the designated areas ( gym, coffee shop, massage) need to be visible by putting a sign on walls about them with direction to them on them as well. The hotel area ( grounds, tr [... read more]ies, flowers) were in very good condition; It would be nice if the hotel staff ( waiters and "towel" and beach persons) would be more understandable that tipping from the clients is an extra but not mandatory. It would be nice if the food variety would be upgraded as well. All soups there had the same colour/aroma and taste but were named differently - the cream of seafood was far away from the "cream". More fresh vegetables would be nice to have. What about having a table with the Cubans traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner food/meals? A map with the hotel/resort layout would be nice to get when checking-in.

Starfish Jibacoa: Great beach. Not so great hotel.

This beach is absolutely amazing with outstanding snorkelling. That was a huge bonus. The food was horrible as to he expected in Cuba but the selection was extremely small and was the exact same options every single day. The staff was less than friendly and would ignore you if they didn't see money in your hand. Our room was nice and the housekeeper always did a great job. More than likely will not return to this resort but we made the most of our vacation and had a great time with our group.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great resort

The food was decent in the buffet. The Japanese restaurant was the best. Staff was friendly. Grounds were clean. Public bathrooms near the pool and beach could have had a little more attention. The beach was beautiful but you have to get there early to get a chair in the shade. Parts of the main pool were closed off because of damage to the bottom.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Good Resort

The hotel was good with friendly staff. The best part of the stay was day bar, beach and the pool. Liked how we could exchange money, buy souvenir at the convenience of the resort. Food needs to be better, did not enjoy at the Al Cart either. We got there at night and night bar and food was so bad that was really disappointed.

Melia Marina Varadero: Lousy buffet and service

The resort lacked flowers in the gardens, very green, but tidy. Not impressed with the buffet, everyday the same food. On the weekend is crazy busy and you wait at The bars and buffet. A la cart was okay, nothing that impressed me. The beach was the best, spent most of my time there, activities were fun, evening entertainment was also good. A language problem could have resulted in me not getting that wake up call upon early departure! No coffee was left in my room for 3 days! Starfish Jibacoa: Great Holiday Destination!

We appreciated the beautiful beach and spacious grounds. Also love the bungalows. The staff are friendly and they do a good job. The diving staff are excellent! The gardeners work hard to keep the grounds clean and lovely.

Gran Caribe Playa Caleta: AWESOME RESORT

This was my FIRST TRIP to CUBA and it was wonderful!! THE WHITE SAND BEACH THAT YOU COULD WALK FOR MILES!! ... A BEACH TO DIE FOR ! Very SAFE and Relaxing! NIGHTLY ENTERTAINMENT was AWESOME along with the DISCO!!! Nice people and GREAT STAFF!!!!! WE will MOST DEFINITELY!!! SEE YOU AGAIN NEXT YEAR!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Excellent resort in most respects

This resort is well designed, the ground well maintained, the three pools are excellent with the centre pool for the lively and two other pools for the more sedate. Our room on the fourth floor of building 12 was a superior room in all respects and the maid kept the room shipshape -her towel art the best we have seen in many visits to the Caribbean. T [... read more]he beach is up to the standard expected in this area and the food good but could be better. The buffet can be crowded especially at breakfast and the limited staff do the best they can. There are two areas of concern, the elevators are not all functional and on two occasions there was no water available for several hours. If these two problems are addressed the resort could be excellent in all respects.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Good value

We were there for 1 week. The hotel is showing signs of age, but all in all OK. The staff were wonderful, very accommodating. Our room had a view of the ocean and beautiful sunsets every night. The food was fair, a few problems (overcooked), same food every day, although the desserts were good. The weather and the beaches were fantastic during our stay. Would probably recommend but with warnings about the food.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Good place for the money spent

The hotel is getting old, we were on the 5th floor with only 1 elevator working, then it broke and we had to walk up to our rooms. They finally got 2 elevators repaired. A few things not working in the hotel room, but the place was clean, the food was available 24 hours a day and was OK, the wine served was watered down. We bought a bottle of wine in the shop which was not expensive at all. We had a few outings which were a lot of fun. I would recommend this hotel for the price and tell whoever what problems were, but all in all a good time.

Barcelo Solymar: Gong Show

We arrived to be told at 2am that they had no room for us and had no offer of alternate accomodations. Then they came up with one room and a king bed to two male occupants which was not acceptable. After providing some alternate options that staff put us in the adjacent hotel in a handicap room for the first night. The next day we were moved but it took away time from our holidays to move. After this the room service was missed on one day and required follow up each day after for the room to  [... read more]be made up. The hotel also had laundry service problems and did not have full linens for the room so we had no change of sheets and a small towel for the bathroom which were not changed until the last few days of the trip. The hotel had no beach towels for the week until the second last day so what we had had to be used regardless of the condition at the end of the week. We have been at this hotel last May and service is definitely declined in many areas. There was of course staff that were exemplary but they were overshadowed by the issues we dealt with. Food was limited in options compared to our last visit but acceptable for Cuba.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great Resort

After reading both very positive and very negative reviews of this hotel, we didn't know what to expect! The place is gorgeous, with a beautiful beach and three really nice pools. Everything was clean and well-maintained. There was a wide variety of activities and entertainment options and different places to eat or drink. Service was consistently good from checkin to checkout. Our room was spacious, with a nice bathroom and comfortable bed. The food was fine - we certainly did not go hungry. [... read more] We had full breakfasts with eggs, bacon, toast and fruit; big salads for lunch with cheese and all sorts of stuff to dress them up, and lovely dinners, either at the buffet or a la carte restaurants. We had lobster, shrimp, fresh fish, good sushi, pizza, Japanese food - pretty much everything. We had a great time and my only complaint is that we had to come home!

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Resort starting show it's age

The restraunts where great but fill up fast so you should be in line at 6 to get in early the staff was great and so was the entertainment the food was often cold at the buffet and the same every night the beach was wonderful but not a lot of shade.

Playa Vista Azul: Pretty good stay

We liked the resort the food wasn't bad but the front desk staff was very rude the rest of the staff throughout the whole resort were 👍 the Italian ala carte was the best Blue Moon also good never did get to the seafood place

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Amazing weather, amazing people...but

We've stayed at a number of different 4+ star resorts in Cuba. Sanctuary at Grand Memories is by far our favorite. Princessa Del Mar is supposed to be a 5 star resort, but when it comes to their food -- and we're not picky people at all -- we'd rate it a 3. For an easy read, here are the pros and cons: PROS: - Rooms/balconies are a good size and kept very clean. Beds are comfortable. Rooms are somewhat dated, but that didn't bother us. - The beach is absolutely beautiful. Lots of palapas [... read more] and chairs for everyone. - Housekeeping services were fabulous. We had room 3321. Leave tips and bring gifts for these people. They deserve it and appreciate it immensely. - Beach bar service was great. - We're beach people, but the pool looked nice. Lots of people were there. - Staff, for the most part, are very friendly CONS: - The buffet is the worse we've ever had. Restaurants are better but still far from a 5 star. - The person manning the grill at the beach grill could care less how many people were in line and, often, chicken was not cooked (still pink). - The walkways are not meant for high heels; much of it is cobblestone. Walk slowly, ladies. On our 2nd to last day, many of us had a traumatic experience. A man -- seemed to be around 60 years old -- was pulled out of the water. Not sure if he had a heart attack or drowned, but they worked hard on him -- CPR, mouth to mouth. With the amount of water coming out of him, I thought he would have survived but he died. There is no finger pointing here -- it was a terrible situation for his wife, people working on him and everyone else that witnessed this event. I would question, however, how well staff are trained in these situations. This man was getting CPR while his head was leaning downward toward the water. I would think it best if he had been level or his head on the upward angle. Otherwise, it seems it would be difficult on the heart.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Nice Resort, Great Beach, Amazing Staff!

Hotel was fairly nice for Cuba, rooms were big and comfortable. The staff was amazing and drinks very good. Very nice section of beach and many pools to choose from. Not very close to town, however the double decker bus stops just outside the gate. Would return for sure!

Hotel Los Cactus: A nice resort for a good price

A returning guest, had to go back due to having such a great experience the first time. 2nd experience was another great experience. Beautiful weather, great beach, and amazing people working there. Did have one bad experience however. Had requested a room near pool/beach, and asked not to be put into same building as the disco. However, despite being returning guest, we were placed in that building again. When requesting to be moved to a different spot, we were told we would have to pay $50 [... read more] CUC per person for the week for a new room. Unfortunately this was not in my budget, so I had to stay in that section. The rooms were damp, smelt of mold, with what appeared to be mold visible on a mirror and in the shower. Also had difficulty sleeping due to the dampness in the air.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beautiful Resort with a Great Beach

The resort is very nice and has a great beach. There is great landscaping and lots of different areas of the resort so it doesn't feel too crowded. When you are on the beach you can see a lot of other resorts which is nice. This resort is no right on the road and there are decent views from the rooms. The location and layout of the resort is one of the best things about this resort. The food was much better than I expected. They make an effort to have some variety. They have a lot of coo [... read more]king stations which results in a lot of long lines. This was frustrating at times. Generally the service was good. I had a lot of issues with the 24 hour snack bar. They had horrible service. I tired it 3 times and refused to go back to the snack bar for the rest of the trip. The swim up pool bar also had very bad service The best drinks come from the lobby bar. They were good at helping you to pick out drinks. The rooms were nice. Besides the light on our balcony not working I was happy with the room.
