Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Amazing Resort !!

ALL IN ALL IT was an amazing time everything was close clean and the people were amazing! We didn't stay at the Grand Cribe we were at Club Kawama!!! Staff were friendly and always had a smile Entertainment every night

Muthu Colonial Hotel: 7 Days in Hell

THE GOOD: The beach is beautiful. There are little wood huts for a bit of shade. The resort is only about 10 min drive from the airport. They make delicious bread for breakfast and dinner. As always, the staff were generally friendly and seemed to be trying their best. THE BAD: 1. The food. This was my 5th trip to Cuba, my husband's 10th and our 3rd visit to Cayo Coco. My husband stayed in the Colonial about 20 years ago and he enjoyed his stay. We know what to expect from Cuba wi [... read more]th regard to food, so our expectations were moderate. The Colonial has sunk to a new low. The cooks do not have an understanding of food safety. We were served chicken that was dangerously under-cooked on more than one occasion. Even rice and pasta were under-cooked and much of the fruit they served was under-ripe. Everything else was over-cooked and too dry to swallow, or not heated thoroughly. The only thing we could stomach was salad (made with cabbage because there was no lettuce until our last day), bread and cheese. That gets REALLY old after 7 days. 2. Coffee. I don't drink alcohol, and I like to drink coffee throughout the day and evening. You can only get coffee at breakfast time, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. After 10 there is espresso in the bar but it is so strong, dusty and bitter it hurt my mouth after the second day. 3. Shortages The bars run out of everything but rum early in the day. You can occasionally get juice but unless you like rum and coke or orange Fanta, you're out of luck. 4. LOUD music in the dining room at dinner time. They bring an amplifier and microphone into the dining hall at dinner time, and a singer screams off-key songs at high volume while walking from table table while people are trying to eat. 5. Sanitation. Most days there was no hand soap in the public bathrooms, there was never anything to use for drying your hands, and no toilet seats in the men's facilities. THE UGLY: 1. Bugs. Our first room was infested with mosquitoes that got in through massive gaps in the window and door frames. We were badly bitten throughout the evening and night. There were also red ants that crawled all over our beds and bit us while we slept. We complained and were moved to a room that was a little farther away from the river that runs around the resort (and is the likely source of the mosquitoes) where there were fewer mosquitoes but many more ants. My husband has more than100 bites and is now on high dose steroids and antihistamines for the next 20 days. 2. The beds: like sleeping on concrete. 3. This is the most disturbing part. The resort management knows that there is a mosquito infestation in the perimeter rooms, but still puts people in those rooms. The manager went so far as to explain to us that the perimeter rooms have mosquito problems while he was moving us to a building farther away from the "moat". Many other guests had welts from bites all over their bodies and one woman told us she needed to see a doctor for antibiotics. At the end of our stay, we were first on the bus that picked up people from 3 other resorts nearby. None of those guests had apparent bites, and most of them said they enjoyed their vacations. We suspect that their resorts sprayed for bugs and the Colonial did not.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great beaches,dissapointing resort

Great beaches but not hard to find in cuba. What is increasing hard to tolerate are the resorts. This one is is promoted as 5 stars but if you know anything about cuba that equates to about a 3 1/2 star resort anywhere else. The staff were pleasant and helpful but expected to be tipped for just about anything. It is supposed to be an adults resort and spa. No quiet zones here! Its cuban dance music everywhere. The worst thing about the resort is the buffet - unless you really like rice. Same thing for lunch and supper - more rice! They even had a cook station doing fried rice? Nobody I talked to were happy with the food choices. They want your tourist dollars but dont want to feed you. We had our best meals in town. We also had items stolen from our luggage on the flight back. Wont be returning!

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Not 4••••

Staff was excellent. Very friendly and helpful. The rooms were in disrepair and needed some TLC. Beaches could have been so much more if only they had staff to clean seaweed. Seaweed was removed only once during 10 day stay

Melia Las Americas: Great Resort

This hotel was very comfortable, well laid out, well kept. The public areas were always tidy, clean and attractive. We upgraded to LEVEL area which was well worth the extra cost. The "Limoncello" restaurant in this area was clean, well staffed with excellent menus to choose from. The only draw back was the elevated platform in the middle which was a stumbling block for quite a few customers. The other restaurants were also well stocked with very good food. Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Grand Sirenis Santa Maria

The hotel is very nice. The beach is incredible. The staff are wonderful. The resort is severely understaffed on a day to day basis. Two staff members for an entire dining section in the buffet is unacceptable, to guests and more importantly to the staff. I love Cuba but the food is always very, very poor. I don’t understand it because Cuba is capable of growing anything, especially fruit and vegetables, which are sorely lacking at this and the other Cuban resorts I have vacationed. The t [... read more]hing I was most troubled by was the greed I witnessed in guests in the buffet dining hall. People taking plates laden with food that they wasted and left on tables. I mean people taking 3-4 LOAVES of bread for a table of 4. Plates of 10-15 chicken breasts. Plates of 20-25 desserts. Other guests doing without because food trays stayed empty. It was disgusting and if you’re reading this and recognize yourself you should be ashamed. What must the Cuban people think of us when they see this gross behaviour?

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: An okay resort

The resort was clean and the grounds well maintained. However, I would not deem a resort all-inclusive when they supply you with one bottle of water (because we cannot drink the tap water) and then advise that you must purchase water thereafter. Similarly, they ran out of wine every day in the afternoon but you could purchase wine at their store for $17.00 a bottle. Wine was not available at the buffet unless, once again, you purchased it for $17.00 a bottle. Only 2 restaurants were availabl [... read more]e so it was not possible to eat in the restaurants often and it was necessary to eat in the buffet. As one may have surmised, we like to have a glass of wine with our dinner and that was, obviously, not possible. You could not get drinks at the pool swim-up bar because they did not have glasses so unless you were able to obtain a plastic glass at some point and hang onto it, you could not get a drink at the pool swim-up bar. The worst was when their entertainment set up their speakers and played music so loud that it was deafening in our room. We were not happy with that nor were the people with children or the elderly who were unable to even res. We will not be returning to that resort. Okay if you do not have high expectations.

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Sixty in cuba

The grounds were well kept and very clean. The layout was fantastic. The workers all amazing All the bar staff was fantastic to us . The ocean boys always had my chairs ready to go. The activity team all super amazing people always made the effort to talk to our group everyday and made us feel special The shows were amazing very talented dancers. The building itself could use some TLC but I realize they are still recovering from the effects of covid Elevators did not work at all,

Playa Costa Verde: A great resort!

We like units being only 2 stories and 16 large rooms per unit. Our room was clean, the water was hot and very room had a balcony. The grounds were well maintained and all areas were clean. The beach was amazing!! Food was what we expected for a Cuba.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Valentin Perla Blanca

Grounds need alot of work. Very long grass by our building. Don't think that the grass has been cut since the resort has reopened. Only one show in theater in the week that we were there. We've been to this resort in 2017 but resort has gone downhill alot since then. Very friendly staff. Impossible to get maintenance to fix anything in our room. Toilet was running all week and 1/2 inch space around entire door frame.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Incredible staff

You will not get a better beach i promise you. The staff are always amazing. The food is perfectly fine. I have been to this same resort at least 6 times, i always have a great time. If you are looking for a good holiday at a great price, this is it. Side note. The airport is small and efficient. YYZ to a mohito on the beach will take roughly 5 hours.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great getaway!

Resort and rooms was what was expected. Service was great, pools were very clean, beach was beautiful. Elevators were hit and miss. Food was plentiful. Lobby bar was very busy in evening and relax area for lunch was delightful. Only complaint would be lack of respect of patrons.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: First Time & Loved It

We travelled as a family just 3 of us including our 14 year old son. As far as resorts go it was what is expected in Cuba. Enelvis gave us a villa with a living room and separate bedroom which was ideal. Both air conditioners were fairly new and worked well. If you are in the main building near the pool the entertainment can be loud if you go to bed before 11:00pm. The bungalow area of the resort was closed as were some restaurants, pools and bars. It's still a huge resort and you can walk a  [... read more]short distance to explore the village. The food was plentiful but mostly the same. Although the bread was fresh there was no butter at all only Mayo on some days. The Creole soup and roast chicken were my favourites. We had lunch at Bennys a la carte and it was a treat to have fish. We did 2 a la cartes and they were both fine. Book them as soon as you arrive. The Beach of course was beautiful with powdery white sand. These things are not what we travel to Cuba for, it's for the staff. Enrique, Rudolfo, Lucy, Enelvis, and too many more to list but most of all Lester from entertainment who provided info about horseback riding, which was the highlight of our trip. The staff are all so hard working and just wonderful people. I hope we will have the chance to visit again.

Paradisus Varadero: Good resort

in general, the beach is very beautiful, the pools are clean, as for the hotel, it is a very dilapidated resort, it needs a renovation, the rooms are quite clean, but they have very poor wi-fi and no usb input

Starfish Jibacoa: Wonderful resort at human size

From the first day I felt rested and completely at peace with myself. My headache completely disappeared. What I loved most were the bungalows scattered around the beautiful green property, dotted with palm trees of all kinds and beautifully groomed hibiscus hedges. The beach is vast and not crowded at all. It's a real treat to walk around. The sea is not all clear because there are in fact many corals including coral reefs that will amaze divers and snorkelers. You gotta love this place.

Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: very good hotel

It is a lovely hotel ,the rooms were nice and comfortable, the facility was full at the time of our visit, ala carte was good, food was good and service was good as well. Beach is excellent, very friendly staff. Definitely would recommend this resort.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Fantastic vacation!!!

The whole experience was great. The grounds were beautiful and clean. The Staff was amazing. Food was yummy for the most part. Overall, we are already planning when we can come back to the same Hotel

Melia Jardines del Rey: Recommended but would not return

Long story short; You get what you pay for. This is a nice resort with some updated features and a beautiful beach to walk. More details: Before leaving for Cayo Coco Melia Jardines del Rey I read many of the reviews and noticed that they were either 0-1 or 4-5 star reviews with not a lot of middle ground. After visiting I realize that the 0-1 reviewers were focusing too much on just one aspect of their stay and experience. My suggestion to you the reader (and the previous reviewers), if you [... read more] read in here that there is a lack of something (i.e. towel or toilet paper) pack it in your suitcase and bring it from home. Simple solution. As for the 4-5 star reviews, yes the resort is nice and clean. The staff work very hard. The food is decent and the restaurant have a good enough variety for the week. My main issue staying on the resort was not the resort itself (the building, staff, beach or food), it was the other people (guests) staying there. Many of them are rude, they but in lines, empty baby carriages full of food on the floor for the staff to clean up - they are busy enough they do not need to clean up after grown adults. Have some respect for yourself and for the staff, help clean and keep the place tidy. Stop cutting in lines and ask the person in front of you if they have already ordered. As for the maintenance; one pool was not swimmable. It was covered in green algae and did not look inviting to swim in. I suggest the beach instead. Bring a snorkel and mask to view the fish along the beach shore. I would recommend water shoes as there as many spots covered in coral. Be prepared for shortages of wine or other liquors besides rum. Bring the things from home that would make your trip more enjoyable and be kind to one another.

Playa Luxury Cayo Las Brujas: Angsana Jan 2023

We travelled as 2 couples to this adults only resort 2nd week on January. The resort is an 1 1/2hr from airport in Santa Clara. Resort and grounds are well maintained. Small resort so easy to get around by walking to everything. 2 pools (no swim up bar) with plenty of lounge chairs spread around available. Resort was only about 1/2 full. Main beach located to left of resort big and beautiful, soft sands and had plenty of lunge chairs. Main buffet was fair sized with variety of options for everyone. No chance to go hungry. If you do it's your own fault. Hot grill for eggs, bacon etc. At night grill for fish, beef, chicken, and pork. Also fresh pasta station. 2 ala carte restaurants ... international and Italian. Both had variety of hot and cold items not available at buffet. We enjoyed both. 24hr snack bar by pool that had a limited menu of sandwiches, burgers and pizza that was ok nothing special. Lounge/lobby bar had best drinks. Awesome staff! Made great Cuban friends! Nightly entertainment was limited. Mostly singers and musicians. We were in room 860 which was on top floor at the far right at the corner. we had partial oceanview. Corner room gave us absolutely stunning sun rises. A/C was great. No issues with hot water just had to wait for it to get to top floor. No issues with TP available (we brought some just in case and left it behind). We wanted a safe quiet relaxing get-away this resort delivered. All the Cubans we met and serviced us were very friendly and great. Would definitely recommend it.
