Paradisus Rio De Oro: great time away from the kids!
The place was in renovations which we knew ahead of time. The pool they recently renovated was beautiful, you could stand and lean in the ledge of the infinity pool and see the ocean. Amazing! Everything was within close range. Food ... I don't know what people want .. We found the food amazing except for the Royal service which was odd. Staff were w great we love Cuba and would come back again. The rooms in the regular service were just being upgraded, hat is the only downfall the room we staye[... read more]d in was not renovated but had an outdoor shower that was used everyday!

Sol Palmeras: Disappointing
Bungalow room in disrepair, right down to holes in sheets. Was expecting rustic 4 star being Cuba - but badly disappointed. Hotel & grounds good, pool average, beach beautiful, food ok - but stomach/digestive issues.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Pleasant good size resort on a beautiful beach
COMMENTAIRES SUR TRIP ADVISOR
Travel arrangements via Trip Central went really smoothly. Great service and follow up. My agent, Jen Huet, was extremely professional and helpful. No unpleasant surprises throughout the trip. So you can be sure that I will use them again if the price is right too.
Just got back from a two-week holiday with my husband at the Melia Cayo Guillermo in Cuba. There were small disappointments but nothing serious, and plenty of pleasant sides too. You can't compare a fou[... read more]r star hotel stay in Cuba with one from in Riviera Maya, especially when it comes to food and internet access. Cuba doesn’t have access to food like Mexico and they don't have those chefs with fancy recipes. But they do a pretty good job with what they have especially since I traveled in low season. Choice of food was a bit repetitive but good and we never starved. If you're going for gourmet dining, I suggest you go to Riviera Maya. But we already knew what to expect when in Cuba.
The entire staff at the resort were very nice and accommodating. Special thanks to Yaninis, Misleidys and Alexeis at the lobby bar. They know what their client's want. Special thanks to Omar who works at the pool bar and buffet area; he went out of his way when my hubby wasn't feeling too well because of the extreme heat.
The beach is easy to access from pretty much anywhere on the resort. Long stretch of beautiful white sand, warm turquoise water, and a very long deck on the ocean. I especially loved that deck for my early morning yoga practice at sun rise Such a view and peaceful moment to practice yoga.
The beach is beautiful. NO ALGAE problem there! I urge you to keep it clean if you should go there. Bring a recyclable mug or bottle and use it each day. If everyone does his part, that beach will remain beautiful for long. Some tourists are a little sloppy, they figure that some Cuban will come around to pick up their garbage in the evening. Yes, they probably do, but if they miss some spots, that garbage ends up polluting the beautiful water for the fish to eat. Not pleasant to walk on old plastic cups and beer cans either.
Keep in mind that you can visit the five other Melia hotels around there for 5 cuc/person using a shuttle. You can spent the day at another Melia to eat and use their facilities. Nice way to compare.
We personally had a very nice and quiet room (1302). What impressed us was that you didn't hear the air conditioner; they use heat pumps to cool the rooms. So you get a quiet sleep. Buildings are all concrete so a lot more quiet in your room. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Beds were very comfortable too.
Melia Cayo Guillermo hotel does need to be refreshed but it is kept very clean. It could be a gem like another tourist said if they refreshed the hotel and upgraded the food more. Would be great if clients to have free wifi all over the resort too. Some improvements with Internet. You can now buy 1 hr internet access cards and connect via your various devices instead of using their computers. The cards cost 2 cuc for 1 hr.
That's pretty much it. I probably would go back at some point if I want to rest and do my yoga on the water front. Perfect size hotel for that.
Enjoy!

Melia Buenavista: Incredible Experience
If you are looking for a smaller, quiet, adult only resort that provides North American standard of luxury from accommodation to food and service then the Buenavista is for you. The resort amenities and staff were excellent and made our stay there one to remember. We will be back!

Melia Cayo Coco: Difficult to review
I'll start with the pros:
1.Excellent food , by far best buffet we experienced in Cuba
always fresh, choices were incredible , fish , shell fish , smoked salmom , beef , lamb , pork , you name it they had it.
Fresh Fruit , fresh salads.
Fresh donut station in the morning and afternoon.
Just great food.
2.Excellent drinks, Top Shelf brands , drinks were awesome.
You have to try the Lime Daiquiri
3.A la Cartes , Italian and International were very good, please do be aware that dress code is 100% e[... read more]nforced.(more on that later)
We did not try the Cuban.
Cons
1. Room wasnt ready when we got there at 4pm , an hour wait , no big deal , went to bar for a drink.
2.We booked a Junior Suite, once we got to our room we were not happy, the room was like a jail cell, closed in no view and dark.
So we asked for another room, we went to see it and the room was still occupied, half naked man and woman(dressed) on bed.
Obviously went we back to lobby unhappy.
Next they offered us a deluxe suite, but at a charge of 68CUC/day extra.
Went to see the room( on the Lagoon) and it just wasnt worth it to us, you didnt get much for the extra CUC's, so thats what we told them.
So its around 5:30 no room, not checked in and we were asked to go to the lobby again and that someone would be right back.
We did, 2 mins later they offered the room to us at 48CUC/day extra.
We were tired and took the room.
2.The next day we met with our West Jet rep (Yvan) for the regular orientation.
We asked to speak to Yvan after the meeting, we discussed what happened when we checked in
Yvan was fantastic(perhaps this should be in the pro section)he took our check in mess to management and got back to us within 15 min.
We were to keep the room we had at no extra cost.
3. THE LAGOON , OMG
It is PUTRID
You come out of your room and you are hit with this stence thats just digusting.
The problem is that depending on the wind you smell this Lagoon in the lobby , at the snack bar and just going for walks.
Accompanied with this Lagoon come the insects at night, brutal.
They use foggers at the resort, but it's simply not enough.
4. Dress Code
100% enforced at International and Italian, not so much at Cuban
We had a reservation for 7pm, I had on Ralph Lauren dress shorts(didnt pack long pants) and got refused , as we were waiting for the food and beverage Manager (Juan)a couple walked in, man had on jeans and sneakers, he got it.
Make a long story short we did not get in even after speaking with Juan.
We left unhappy.
Juan did speak to us the next day and made it up to us, we got to have our a la cartes out doors which was very nice.
Joseph our waiter out doors, was fantastic and funny !!
Overall the staff at this resort were fantastic !!
However our overall experience was only average.
We choose this resort as it was rated #1 of 11 in Cayo Coco
It did not live up to its ranking in our opinion.
We won't return to this hotel , reason = LAGOON = STINKS
Room Tip: Stay away from the Lagoon rooms, classic rooms are away from the Lagoon and much much cheaper

Memories Cayo Largo: Really nice resort
Hotel was one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. The staff as usual were extremely nice. The grounds were very well kept, very neat and tidy. We were pleased with all the restaurants & food. Unfortunately there were too many flies. I don't think they spray for them or even if they can. They were very annoying while eating our dinner. Awesome beach. I hope to be able to go back.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great resort!
Clean, well-kept resort with friendly staff. Good food at the buffet restaurant. Not all specialty restaurants are open every night, but staff were accommodating in making alternate plans. Beach was pleasantly quiet (no motorized water sports) but catamaran sailing stopped early in the afternoon. Location is a long way out - almost at the end of the peninsula.

Melia Las Antillas: Very ordinary resort
Rooms very ordinary. Food : good breakfast, but thank the Lord for pastas and pizzas at lunch and supper. The 3 Ã la carte restaurants need to improve their menu. The italian resto did not serve pastas or pizzas !!!
Beautiful beach & superb water but the resort need to hire staff to clean up the beach ground covered with plastic glasses, plastic straws and cigarette buts all over. Great need of more garbage cans that are already full by lunch time.
Entertainment very good from 21:30 to 22:15.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Won't recommend
We went there as a family of three with 9 year old son. The only thing I don't like is very basic rooms with ants crowing all over the place, so be careful, or bring the insects spray and other thing is food variety. Maybe it would be OK for the week, but been there for 2 weeks very tired of food. Other than that everything is perfect : the beach is most beautiful I've been, customer service is perfect very professional. If you don't like the room, they'll give you 3 or 4 to choose from. I conta[... read more]cted with them in advance asking to place us in the building 6,which is right on the beach and we got the room on the second floor with ocean view. I appreciate it.

Lobby and room were great! Service left a lot to be desired. Very slow and inattentive. Beach area is pretty but rocky but the smell is overwhelming. Without getting into a long story, we switched resorts the following afternoon.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Almost perfect!
Upgrade to Royal Service is worth it! Rooms were more modern and recently updated. Butler service fantastic, Durian and Miguel were gems! Food was okay, typical resort food, good for Cuba. Had some issues with mosquitoes and dirty sheets, but staff was quick to change our room and replace bedding. Also gave us a discount on the upgrade.
Beach was incredible, best yet and this was 10th all inclusive I've been to. Crystal clear water, soft sand, stunning.
Wifi included with Royal Service ($2 cuc[... read more]/hr otherwise) and only works in lobbies. Need cards to log in. Liked this, didn't look at my phone for a change!

Melia Buenavista: If you want to relax and snorkel this is the place
Best rooms out of any hotel in Cuba. The dual balconies and outdoor shower are like no other. The food was good by Cuban standards. I had some great meals and some ok meals. They try very hard to please our North American tastes. The pools were very shallow but relaxing. The pool bar service and outdoor wood pizza oven service were excellent. Never waited for a drink. Brought to me wherever I was. Beaches beautiful. Snorkeling... Some of the best I've seen throughout the carribean. Bring your ow[... read more]n gear though. Access to other nearby Melia resorts was easy via free shuttle. We ate at the French restaurant at one of the other resorts. It was decent.
Don't expect a wild nightlife. This place is all about romance and relaxation. Great piano bar with light indoor and outdoor entertainment. Don't expect stable wifi service. If you do get it, it's in the lobby only and it's free.
Staff all very friendly as per my expectations of the wonderful Cuban people. We would go back for sure.

Melia Las Dunas: Beautiful beach, friendly people, sanitary rooms
Loved my stay. Made a lot of friends and everyone was very welcoming. The buffet was not that great, but I definitely recommend the beer garden and a la carte restaurants. I was also very impressed with our rooms and how clean it was. A lot of dancing and disco at night which were very enjoyable if you know how to dance. Miss Cuba so much. Will definitely return again!

Melia Las Antillas: Melia Las Antillas Cuba
Of course, the people of Cuba are so wonderful and make visiting Cuba extra nice. The hotel is a little dated, but I like the style of the big building. (Elevator was a little scary). The outside hallway faced the highway and the room balcony faced the resort (we were on 5th floor). Unlike the small building styles we've been to (3 floors with a hallway thru the middle), Melia was very quiet during the night so we could actually sleep without interruptions such as voices echoing and slamming doo[... read more]rs and no kids. If you want peace, this is the place to go. The room was nice and clean and always had changed sheets and fresh towels and yes, bathrobes. We had a nice reception on the 5th floor with a live band and two young dancers and a 'quiz on Cuba' from the very friendly Manager... such a nice touch. This is our third visit to Cuba and the food was good. The Italian restaurant was really good and the staff are so wonderful. Good value for the money. Wouldn't go again because we want to explore other resorts, but Melia Las Antillas was good and everyone was fantastic and so friendly.

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing holiday
The hotel is lovely. We had a wonderful holiday for the most part and we wanted to acknowledge that this was largely due to the wonderful staff. The staff are very hardworking and go out of their way to make the guest happy.
Our housekeeper, Maidelyn, was just wonderful. We looked forward to coming to the room every day to see what creation she had made with the towels. She always had a smile for us and kept the building No. 49 and its rooms very very clean.
The entertainment staff were incred[... read more]ible going the extra mile to keep us entertained and happy all the time. Gy, Carlos, Andy, Yasser, Teo were some of the few staff that worked tirelessly everyday to keep us happy on the beach and in the evenings. As well, we always looked forward to the evening shows and the music by DJ Lewis who was just so entertaining.
The gardener, Frank, who was always working between buildings 46 to 49 was a pleasure to talk to. He always had a smile and flowers for me when I passed by.
My only regret is not taking the names of the two ladies at the buffet, the "pancake lady" and the "omelette lady" who were so wonderful.
As well, we had a server by the name of Meiling who went out of her way to anticipate our every need every time we visited the buffet.
Please pass on our grateful thanks to these staff for the hard work they put in to ensure we have a good holiday.
All in all, we had a wonderful vacation and we would have no hesitation in recomending Melia Las Dunas to others as well as we would love to come back again.
