Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Resort Review
The hotel grounds were lovely and always beautifully maintained. The service at the buffet from the hostess, to the waiters/waitresses and the clean-up crew were always delightful. However, services at the bars and cafe were terrible - especially the bars. Rooms were cleaned and always maintained with the fridge well stocked and customer to whatever you asked for.

Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana: Great Resort with fantastic staff!
This was our 6th visit to the resort and as always, we found it to be a wonderful vacation. Domyray Nunez was true to her word and we had a great room location and were well looked after.
Special mention to Ronny (bartender in preferred lounge), Altagracia (server around the pool), Fraudicio and Alejandro (bartenders at preferred pool), and Modesto (server in buffet).
The only problems we found were owing to the guests themselves.
There were so many small children not being supervised![... read more]. Parents seemed to assume someone else would look after their kids as they ran amok around the bar and jumped into the pool in front of our chairs. We were fortunate as repeat guests to have been upgraded by the resort management. However, for those who pay substantially extra to upgrade, it would be nice to have at least one area for Adults only.
We also couldn't believe the number of people eating around and even INSIDE the pool! Come on people, use some common sense and follow the pool rules!

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Brutal!!!
Very unfortunately, this Bahia Principe Ambar was no where near up to par with any 4+ star resort I have EVER been to. For a 'brand new' facility, the list of deficiencies is enormous. My large group experienced rooms with no shower doors, no bathroom doors, and toilets dislodging and falling out of walls! On our second last day there, as crowds of people were sitting on the patio enjoying an evening coffee, the coffee shop door, made entirely of thick glass, literally burst into thousands of[... read more] shards of glass for no apparent reason!!! If that weren't bad enough, the cleaning staff unlocked balcony doors to 'clean' the balcony and then left the door open/unlocked and refused to replenish the refrigerator with items that were to be All-inclusive, unless they were paid/tipped daily. The property itself is fine, but the staff (with the exception of a few) were miserable and barely even smiled or entertained small talk. Oh...sensitive to mosquitos? This is NOT the destination for you. I am NOT sensitive at all (been to Jamaica, Mexico and Cuba with no issue whatsoever), but managed to come home with at least 30 bites from this place. Ugh! After spending $1800/person, this resort was a huge disappointment!!!

Grand Palladium Punta Cana: Nice Resort
This resort is very large. Took a few hours to get checked in, we were the last ones waiting in the lobby. The loft room is very big and spacious. Great if you have kids with you. Room was very clean and well kept. The shower is see through on the room side and taps take a bit to figure out. Room service was great! All the restaurants were excellent. All the grounds are well taken care of. The trolleys are a great way to get around. The beach is beautiful however the locals trying to sell things[... read more] are very persistent and constant. Can be rather annoying when you are trying to relax. A few people in our group had staff entering into their rooms unannounced and at odd times. The wifi worked great throughout the resort once you get on it. The night entertainment was ok. I would likely go back to this resort. The big main pool was under construction the whole time so there was a lot of crowding at the other pool.

Occidental Caribe: Defineltly a four star !!!
The hotel itself was in pristine condition. Not even a blade of grass out of place. The main buffet was not good, always cold. The ala carts were good. The maid service was ok, but had to call for towels and face cloths a couple of times. They don't like to keep the bar fridge stocked up with beer, had to call for it also. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our Transat representative didn't seem to know his job very well. He quoted us a price on an excursion but then came back to us and r[... read more]aised it another ten dollars each. I asked him three separate times if alcohol was included, as my husband and I enjoy drinking while on holidays, he assured us that it was. He was wrong, he sold us a health spa type or snorkeling tour with absolutely no beer or alcohol. We went to see him the next day but it was his day off, and we were leaving the following day. We did see him before we left, with no satisfaction. Claims that he didn't know. So as I said, he did not know his job. We called AIR Transat to complain but they never got back to us and their website was unavailable. One more thing, the beach was beautiful but was unable to go in the water as it was too rough.

Sunscape Coco Punta Cana: Great Vacation!
We just came after our 2 weeks vacation at Be Live Collection Punta Cana and we can say that we were really impressed by the work of its entertainment team especially taking into consideration that we have long experience (more than 15 years with vacations every year and most of them were in the Dominican Republic). They were even better than we had in our Bahia hotel vacation. Good work, guys!
We liked there everything (well, better to say almost everything): very good food and great pres[... read more]entation of it, very clean rooms (at least what we had or seen there)- all new or renovated, room service and other staff are very attentive and helpful (we had once/twice problems with lost keys and other and it was quickly resolved and helped) , very polite- I was very pleased! Very nice facilities, restaurants, buffet, gym (free of charge), and many other things.
What I didn't like: the water on the beach was not clear at all and often full of sand (the sand there is very very fine).

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Wonderful time with the family!
It was perfect for families with children as there was lots to do with them. The shows were geared for the kids. I enjoyed the service and smiles from all the staff despite not speaking much English. Everyone appeared to be very helpful. Not so keen on the phone variety but overall everything was solid.

Iberostar Selection Bavaro Suites: Great resort
Everything was about the hotel was perfect - food, drinks, hotel, weather. The only down side was that vendors were allowed onto the resort and that these vendors hustled you for a sale, even after saying no.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana: Huge Rexort
This is one Massive rexort. There are golf carts that come very often to take you where you wNt to go. Grounds are beautiful and surrounded by either fountains, pools or ocean. Many different and unique pools to choose from whether you want loud music party vibe or quiet relaxation. Beach is nice but lots of seaweed on shore. They try hard to clean it. Beach was mostly red flagged due to waves and undertow however we did get a couple days out of the week battling the waves. Rooms are very large [... read more]and have a big jacuzzi tub in the middle. Nice feature. Balcony also good size. Buffet was mediocre but always found something to eat. Great a la Carter restaurants however my favourites were the Toro steakhouse and Impanema Brazilian. Make sure you reserve restaurants as soon as you arrive. Service was fantastic. Never waited for drinks and dinner served quickly. The staff there speak great English. We did not encounter a language barrier at this resort once. Take advantage of resort credits for excursions. It saves you a ton of money. Also know that there are some things not included in the all inclusive which I was disappointed about. Mini golf for one. You can use resort credits however it will still cost you $6/person. Virtual reality shop by lobby. Fun but also cost you $10 a pop for 10 minutes. Escape room at $36to $48 per person. This stuff really should be included as part of the all inclusive price. Don’t be fooled by resort credit store. At the end their prices are exactly the same as the larger souvenir store across the hall. You aren’t saving anything. Casino amazing and pretty loose in paying out money. We won quite a bit. Servers also amazing in casino. You will never wait for drinks. Overall this resort was one of my favourites and will definitely teturn
We traveled as a group of friends. The resort was clean, rooms clean with supplies restocked daily. We always had good food to choose from. Pools we're clean with lots of chairs available. The staff was good, although they worked on Dominican time, we appreciated the slower pace !We had no complaints at all about this resort and would return. We had a chance to view the adult only sections and are going to book our next stay there!

Riu Republica: Great Resort!
The hotel, the grounds, the food, the beach all amazing.
I do have a suggestion for your late arrivals though. The only food available in the later hours was at the sports bar(not so good). I think when you have a later arrival, having a space set aside with maybe buns and cold cuts would be greatly appreciated by guests.

Grand Palladium Palace: Amazing staff
Although we had a great time at this resort, it isn't one that I would go back to and cannot really give a reason why, spoiled I guess!
The beach is great (mind you there is a lot of seaweed that is picked up daily, but they cannot keep on top of it), the pools fabulous (amazing bar staff....best we have ever had!) and the food was consistent good (not great).
The rooms were large and well laid out, however if you have any mobility issues, the tub is extremely hazardous to get in. They hav[... read more]e a wooden step to assist you getting into the tub, but it is very deep (which is great if you want to jacuzzi it!). They have provided a grab bar, but I was always very careful getting in and out of it. The tub is surrounded by about a 4 inch strip of marble, which the shower cannot help but spray on. The opaque glass to the living area, may be opened, however, that has left a way for the water to run onto the floor in the living area. Easily fixed by putting a towel on the floor, however if you don't know it does that, it could cause a slip and slide moment.
My husband likes more than one pillow and the jacuzzi would not turn on, so I went to the public relations desk to see if these could be fixed. They must have been done within a couple of hours and it was great to get a call to confirm that everything was now to our liking.
This is a huge resort, however there are trains that go every 20 minutes, or you can hail one of the many shuttles that are around. The sports bar was on the complete other side of the resort and we went there a couple of times. We never waited more than 5 minutes for transportation.
We went to 2 of the A la Cartes. The food was fine, as I said not great, and the portions were small.
They have multitudes of different kinds of liqueur, so you can basically get what ever you want and the bartenders are more than pleased to mix it. Ask for each ones specialty.....they have some pretty good ones.
I have read numerous comments on the lack of English. Don't believe it. We never ran into one staff that was unable to understand us.
Great vacation.

Occidental Caribe: Good Resort
Very clean. Staff is not very amicable... and they like to enforce all of the little anoying rules.
Also, no free internet anywhere during the day... you have to pay 12$ us for 12 hours... WOW.
Was also very hard to get the mini fridge filled correctly everyday (always missing something).

The Reserve at Paradisus Punta Cana: Beautiful Resort
Had a wonderful time at the Reserve Punta Cana. The resort grounds are gorgeous and the beach amazing. Our room was nice with a comfy bed. Food at the buffet was good, flavorful and plenty of choices. Fruits was my favorite. Restaurants were OK. Loved the entertainment staff at night as they showed us how to dance the DR way in the main lobby. Did not see any shows so can't comment on them. Would definitely love to return one day.

Grand Palladium Palace: Amazing resort, could be way better managed
The resort is amazing - well maintained spacious rooms, beautiful grounds, wide and probably 500 m long very nice sandy beach. The staff cleaned the beach from seaweeds daily and it was a pleasure relaxing or walking on the beach. Pools were nice and clean, all beach and pool bars offered a good variety of drinks and cocktails. Bar tenders were always happy to help and served customers with a big smile.
Now about the things, which could be easily improved by better managing the resort:
Our [... read more]main complaint was the quality and variety of food in the buffets and restaurants. We already have grounds for comparison with other 4 and 5 stars resorts in the Punta Cana area and we never had similar experience there.
The variety of food at lunch and dinner was almost non existent. There is always something to fill up, but we never experienced a pleasure or real enjoyment of the culinary. Food presentation in the buffets was non existent. I would suggest managers to sneak pick how this could be done in a near-by Iberostar or Grand Bahia resorts. Better yet - go to Riviera Maya to get some ideas how to make a really good food presentation without extra spending. The food preparation was not done well not only in the buffets, but also in the numerous restaurants, We visited Indian restaurant and only one of the purchased meals had a flavor of India. The Argentinian was not bad, we enjoyed the food in the Mexican, however the Asian was a disaster. With very few tables and a lot of waiters, we had to wait for 40 minutes to be served the entries and a soup, which were already listed in the menu. Some other visitors, who came at the same time with us, simply left the restaurant after waiting for over 30 minutes. I had to call for the manager to express my opinion on the level of service, after which we were promptly served the food.
I can talk a lot about the big disappointment we experienced every time we tried a new food or place. Even the Japanese tepanyaki experience was not in pair with similar restaurants in other resorts.
The second big disappointment was the entertainment. In other places the entertainment team keeps guests busy and happy with different activities , games, dance lessons, competitions etc. This time our stay was more like in a retirement home. The only activity was the aqua fitness for 30 minutes a day. That's was it! During the rest of the day so called entertainment team relaxed on the beach and around the pool, since no one was pushing them to do their job. Looks like they were on vacation, not the guests of the resort - This happened at the Grand Palladium Palace hotel, could be different in other resort hotels.
The third disappointment was almost missing Christmas decoration at the hotel grounds, lobby and everywhere. Other resorts were glowing in Christmas lights, but almost none in Grand Palladium. For the last 10 years we took a vacation during the first week of December and the Christmas spirit was very high at all resorts we visited. That's why it was shocking to see a total opposite at Grand Palladium Palace.
Overall our experience was not very positive and we will never return or recommend this resort to our friends.

Riu Republica: Absolutely amazing!
The resort was perfect for my boyfriends 33rd birthday! The food was great, the staff were always pleasant/helpful and the room was always clean and being replenished of anything that was needed. We are thinking of going back next year. It was nice to be at a resort without children for once.
