This was my third visit to the Melia Cayo Guillermo since June 2014. The resort it's self is a bit dated but that does not take away from the vacation. The staff at this resort are what make this place feel like home and will continue to bring me back.

As a returning guest, this is one excellent resort, filled with all mighty natural beauty including one beautiful beach with strong waves, one long salt water swimming pool area, a nice gym for the daily workout, one Tennis court, games by the swimming pool etc. The food is tasty and the service is great at any time. The Caribbean beauty is all around us from the beautiful aqua blue sea ocean to the wild kitties which are an attraction on their own. Two outside beaches are a must, Playa Paraiso [... read more]& Playa Sirena. It’s such a beautiful place I will definitely return yet again…

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing time at this resort
We went for a week from June 7 to 14. We had a fantastic time. We loved the resort amenities and restaurants, and most of all, the personnel at the resort was fantastic. Everybody was very nice. My husband is in a wheelchair, and although is a big resort, all the areas are wheelchair accessible and there is a ramp to go to the beach. We only had some trouble at the airport, Air
Canada wasn't the greatest service. Both ways my family had to sit in separate chairs, and my husband needed help that [... read more]I couldn't provide because I was seated far from him and my kids on the window so I couldn't even get out of my chair at some times. I couldn't find anybody to switch places with me. When we came to Toronto, they took almost an hour to find the plane wheelchair needed to get my husband out of the plane since he can't walk at all. We also didn't know that they don't give any food on this flight, you have to purchase it, and it's very expensive for not the greatest food. If we had known this before we'd have brought some food with us. We had a very early flight to go to Cuba so we didn't have time to eat breakfast. We were starving by the time we got to Cuba and we were loaded on the bus really fast so we didn't have time to eat anything until really late in the afternoon.... be advised - bring lots of food, specially if you are travelling with little ones!!!

Hotel Vigia: good late season trip
Had a really nice stay at Solar Cayo Guillermo from June 18 - 25. We did a lot of research before we left and knew exactly what to expect so we ended up going with an open mind and real expectations. The people at this resort are wonderful. They are the bonus of this resort and why so many people keep going back. The beach and ocean here are the best. With the temp at this time of year the temp of the ocean is perfect. The pool at this resort are great.
The only issue I had, and by no means did [... read more]this dampen our trip, but the buffet was very lacking. Small things like no bacon at breakfast, sometimes no ketchup, the buffet was the same every day.
This resort is advertised by Sunwing as having 2 a LA cart restaurants, in fact 1 has been torn down and is in the process of bring rebuilt. The other one that is open is excellent. The choices are varied and any one would be a good choice.
Overall, we had a great time and got the holiday we were looking for. I would recommend this resort to my friend's but would tell them you get 5 star people but 3.5 star resort.

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Great family location
Loved the grounds - well maintained and clean. The place is huge so if you are not a fan of walking then you will be segregated to one area. We were close to the restaurants and did not mind the walk to the pool and beach. Food was very good. Lots of fresh healthy selections and wide variety to choose from. The Thai place was the best! We ate there two nights in a row. Loved the Peacocks although be warned they are very loud in the wee hours of the morning. Rooms were decent - a little outdated [... read more]but in good condition. Fridge restocking was hit or miss. If you are late raisers then you will find your room is bypassed on the morning tour and might not be cleaned until later in the afternoon. Buses were a huge hit with the kids. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Did not have any experience with time share people. Pools were great - packed so get there early if you want a lounger

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Beautiful but less family oriented than expected
The rating I gave was based on all aspects of the resort because I dislike when I read reviews that are negative about everything when only one aspect was not favourable. So I'm going to review different aspects of the resort before mentioning our experience with our first room, which, along with the behaviour of some of the patrons, was the only drawback to our vacation.
Beach/ocean
Probably the most beautiful beach I have ever been to (including Cayman's 7 mile beach). Perfect sand. Great to [... read more]walk in, never too hot. Lots of lounge chairs. Fortunately, not too many smokers on the beach (we only moved once because we were involuntarily inhaling smoke, instead of the beautiful ocean breeze). Very safe, lots of security guards and not many beach vendors. If a breeze is blowing from the ocean you can even find a spot where you can't hear the blasting music from a pool or a beach speaker. There were some seaweeds in the shallow part of the ocean but they did not prevent me (and many other patrons) from swimming. Water was very calm and warm- my 9 month old loved it too.
Resort / restaurants
Beautiful finishes and material throughout the resort: cherry wood, marble, natural stone, onyx...The grounds of the restaurant were immaculate with lots of exotic birds. There's a train that runs throughout the resort: it's a pleasant 10 min walk from the main building to the beach otherwise. I thought that taking the train takes as much time because it stops so often.
Many restaurant options - no need to make a reservation which was great and very unlikely all other all inclusives that I've been to. We tried the American Grill, Hacienda (texmex), Thai and Dominican restaurant, all of which had decent food. The main buffet (Marketplace) had a lot of food options at all times and was my favourite. I thought the food at the beach grill (Grill Agora) wasn't as good as the Marketplace buffet but that was my personal opinion. Overall, there were so many food options that unless you have a chef at home who cooks 10 different equally delicious meals every night, you should be able to find something you'd like :)
The only downside to the restaurants was that some patrons did not care about the dress code. It would be nice if the "no shirt, no (especially wet) bathing suit, no service" policy was reinforced during the day (not fun to sit on a wet cushion at lunch time) and if people showing up with tied-up beach dresses and beach shorts at a la carte restaurants in the evening were turned away. It really takes away from the beautiful ambiance of a nice restaurant to have patrons looking like that.
Transfer from the airport/check in
A very comfortable, short ride from the airport. We had a very smooth check in, and were given an upgrade to a beautiful jacuzzi family suite, which unfortunately, was also very close to a very loud lobby bar.
Other patrons
There was a mix of Spanish, Portuguese, German and English speaking patrons (U.S. And Canada mostly). Some of the patrons were considerate, others unfortunately very rowdy which is not something I expected as we purposely booked in what we were told was the family-oriented part of the resort (not the adult-only). We had to move a few times on the beach not to hear drunk adults yelling at each other in the middle of the day. I was disappointed to see that some patrons were there for a frat party.
Our room
6034 room (jacuzzi suite) is very nice but very loud: the first night the music and loud cheering went on until 2am. We asked for a different room in a quieter section but were told that we were in a quiet area?! and the loud noise was not an everyday occurrence in the area we were in (right next to the main building). Unfortunately, it was. One night the music didn't stop the entire night and I woke up at 3 am to people yelling 'shots, shots, shots'. We eventually insisted on another room and got one for the last 2 nights. Room 4514 was not ideally situated (the first room on the ground floor of a building so everyone walks by it) but we appreciated being able to sleep for at least the last 2 nights. It is unfortunate that we were misinformed about how loud the first room was and that we did not get another room right away, it would have made a world of difference.

Zel Punta Cana - All Suites: Amazing Family Vacation
This year we decided to kick off our Summer vacation in Punta Cana. This was our second trip to DR. We opted for the Reserve Paradisus Palma Real due to the good reviews it had. We we were there from June 5th to June 12th. All I can say is that this resort is the best resort we have stayed at.
The staff is very friendly, pleasant and respectful people. They were always attentive to our requests and always made sure we had everything we needed. This resort has the best staff we've ever experienc[... read more]ed.
The food is really good. The Gabi Club buffet is kind of small, but you will always find something delicious to eat. Our favourite restaurant was the Hydro Grill next to the main and kids pool. We also tried the Aqua restaurant which has an elegant/classy ambience. The food there was excellent. There's also the steak house, Rare which was delicious. We also tried Fuego which was okay. Our least favorite restaurant was the Mexican restaurant. The food was edible, but wasn't that great.
The facilities and pools are really clean. The rooms are spacious. The rooms have the set up of a small apartment. Wi-Fi is also available throughout the resort so this is also a plus.
My only suggestion for this resort is that they need to update the reception area. It doesn't have the feel of a high end resort. Some of the furniture there needs to be upgraded.
I would like to thank Freddy for helping us with our a la carte reservations. This was truly appreciated by my family and I. I also like to specially thank Yaneira Saldaña for been such a sweet person. She always had a genuine smile to offer. And truly cared about customer satisfaction. She always made sure we were taken care of while eating at the Gabi Club. It was a real pleasure meeting her. We actually felt like we were leaving a family member behind when we said our goodbyes to her. We missed her warm smile. We really hope to see her back.
Thank you to the Reserve Palma Real for an unforgettable Summer vacation. We will definitely be back in the future

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: great!
Everything was wonderful as usual, except they were having issues with the air conditioning. Although they were trying to get it fixed we had a 21 month old with us and a room that was 100 degrees with humidity at 100% it was a little tough. We were able to sleep in a different room one night, so that was definitely helpful. This was a minor issue and has not changed my opinion on the resort or the people in anyway and I hope to be able to go back over and over again.

Melia Las Dunas: Had such a great time I went back 3 weeks later
My husband and I spent a week at the Melia Las Dunas in May. I enjoyed myself so much that I went back for a 4 day girls trip 3 weeks later.
I have traveled all over the Caribbean. The beach in Cayo Santa Maria is by far the best I have ever been to. I love that I can see my toes in the crystal clear water. There was never any issue with seaweed on this beach.
As it is widely known, Cuba does not rank high for food at the resorts, but the Melia Las Dunas was great. There was an abundance of fr[... read more]esh fruit, and the other typical buffet dishes. We really enjoyed the restaurants as well.
The rooms are dated but we found them comfortable. There was always hot water and the AC kept the room cool.
The staff were so warm and friendly from the gardeners to the bartenders. I felt like I was going home on my second trip.
One of my favorite things about the resort was the house band in the evening. They were always amazing.
Bug spray and after bite is a must to pack if you vacation from May to September. The mosquitos are out for blood at this time of year.
I would highly recommend this resort for its great value for the price. It was a very affordable vacation.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Tryp Cayo Coco
We had friendly and helpful staff. There were great activities for the children to participate in.
We went in the slow season, so not all restaurants open, and a smaller variety of food available. limited selection.
Bar service was quick. Restaurant service in the premium restaurants was great. The buffet service was great except for the odd server. Just like in Canada.

Melia Las Dunas: Great time
Overall this was a great resort. I have been to Cuba 7 times and this is the second best! check in was really slow and we had to wait until 4pm for our room. During our trip we constantly had a lizard in our room.
However the food was decent for Cuban standards and Kiki at the buffet was an amazing server!
