Poor hotel

Two weeks without running water almost all the time. to small restaurant to accommodate all the tourists and low level food... I love Cuba and travel quite often to Varadero. I’ve been to Mar del Sur before, but every time is going worst and worst… Otherwise nice people and always friendly!

Not too bad needs lots ofimprovements

rooms were grungy bathrooms by the pool and bar were very dirty no toilet paper and no paper towels people were very friendly food was the same every day not many choices to choose from and they only let so many people in the dining room at a time the out door patio had cats and dogs runny threw it and chickens there was chicken poop all over the floor outside cats were sraying on furniture not very clean at all

Will not return

I was very disapointed in this resort. We booked it as it was close to central downtown (which it was) and had a playground for our son (out of order). Definately not safe!! The ala cart restaraunt was not operational either. Front desk staff had a 'couldn't care less' attitude. And spent much of the time doing her nails. The Bartenders and wait staff were wonderful. The maid service only made our beds 2 days (the other 5 the blankets were folded at the foot of the bed. Our garbage did not get e [... read more]mptied until I put them in the middle of the room to be tripped over. I am aware that this was only a 2 1/2 star...but it wasn't even close. The grounds although maintained decently, had many cracks and uneven pathways. Many stray cats and dogs on this property. Bring tteats for them as most seemed friendly. The Lights in our complex were hit and miss making it difficult not only to navigate our way, but find where to put a key in to open the door. Only 1 key was given to my family of 3... upon arrival (11:30 pm) there was no where to get anything to eat and they don't exchange money at this resort so we couldnt even go get something Once my hungry husband began to complain were were tossed 2 stale sandwiches. The only day activites at the resort was a game of bingo at 330 in the afternoon. I will return to varadero, but never this establishment!

Great Resort for Less!!!

Clean Grounds Good Food Excellent Staff Overall, it was a great stay. Nightlife was good. People seemed to enjoy it. Never got to use the pool since the beach was out of this world. Varadero, city is beautiful too.

Just under ok

Everything was fine but our rooms were in unit 16 and unit 17 which were not the most desirable buildings.It would a been better if we had a nicer room.puntarena hotel was nice with balcony n ocean views missed hearing the ocean waves n looking out at the night sky n ocean.service n entertainment were all great however.

Good basic resort!

We enjoyed the resort, our two bedroom apartment had two bathrooms and a large living area. Food was basic and well cooked. We enjoyed the pool and the walk to the beach was a quick five mins..We will return!

well it was ok but rice and beans is not my food the room was good for a old hotel did need some maintenance on it but have stayed in worse and paid a lot more money in Canada and the USA bar open 24 hrs and they have coffee there

Good times, new friends, will be back.

Despite the fact that my camera was stolen from my room (that was not cleaned even once during the whole time I was there), and no one compensated the loss or really did anything, I had a good time. You can't ask more for the price, and really you get what you pay for. But it's not the luxury I came for, it's the sun and the beach, and let me tell you, it's really worth it. So if you want a blast vacation for the buck, this is the place to go. Sooooo bad

People are really nice the food was the worst I have ever eaten,not enough variety and food has no flavor.Room service was a joke and the hotel bathrooms were never cleaned properly.I would never want to go back unless it's for free!

A place to sleep. Good location

I enjoyed my trip very much. The hotel was a two star for sure. We did like our 1 bedroom apartment with balcony and fridge. It was run down but we expected that. We were on the main resort block 12 room 108 first floor. The food is not very good at all. We ate two times at the hotel and the rest of our meals were at the restaurant nearby. (Salsa Suarez) awesome lasagne!! People were overall friendly at the hotel.

Lots of bang for your buck

Good things: Beautiful pool, nightly entertainment, great music and sound system, ping pong, basketball, pool table, kids playground, location, big rooms, beautiful hotel. You get a lot for one of the lowest priced hotels in Cuba. Bad things: Room was clean but smelled musty - the AC helped (room 204, staircase 12), food quality was no worse then any other hotel in Cuba but the variety was poor (I won't be eating rice and beans again for a very long time), we had an ant infestation for a few da [... read more]ys but you get that at home too so no biggy.

You definitely get what you pay for....

I was at Mar Del Sur over Christmas and had a great time. Excellent staff, decent facilities, plenty of food options and excellent entertainment. Will definitely return. On the negative side, my room was tired looking and could use a renovation.

Mar del sur

The hotel stay is best suited for those who not wanting to be pampered all the. If you like to explore and not want to spend your every waking minute at the hotel. The food is good more of a meat and potato style, however with the money you save on the hotel there are good little restuarants on all of the streets.The staff here is the greatest, always with a hello smile and warmth. It is government run hotel, so think how your government works a lot similar. The pool is not the greatest but I spent my swimming time in the ocean. I would say go and stay at the mar del sur.

You get what you pay for

First and most important, the beach is a block away and is absolutely stunning! There is also a bar there open until five but does not serve beer! The staff is pleasant. They are a little less ambitious because they do not receive many tips. Especially, compared to other hotels. The rooms need to be upgraded. The pool was quite yellow on the bottom but was cleaned while I was there and looked much better. People seemed to enjoy the pool area, bar and lounge chairs. The people working at the pool bar, snack bar were happy and friendly. Drinks were house brand liquor, and they had good draft Cristal beer. The grounds were kept up nicely. Lots of trees, plants and flowers. There were places to sit every where and enjoy. There was lots of food at the buffet. Nothing special but good. There was always a large variety of vegetables, cooked and uncooked which I very much appreciated! There was also a vast assortment of bakery breads and desserts. There was a fruit table as well. Usually three or four different fruits at a time. The wait staff were nice. The snack bar set ed panini like sandwiches with a little meat and cheese also once and a while hamburgers. They taste like they were made from ham. Very good though! No Wi-Fi and phone calls are expensive. There is Wi-Fi available at the end of the street. There was security and the security people were polite and good at their job. I enjoyed myself and you cannot beat the price! The main thing I wanted while traveling solo is safety and I felt safe there!
