Worst Rooms and maid service ever in Cuba

The hotel itself is beautiful, no issues on food shortages due to Covid. The bartenders, grounds keepers and dining service staff were all excellent. Sadly our room was terrible, beds held together with 2X4’s if you sat on the end of the bed legs would fall off. No fresh towels, floor never swept, water not replaced in room without special request, linen not changed at all in the seven days. To top it off although money was left as were gifts maid still stole items from both of our rooms. If  [... read more]a complaint is filed a full investigation needs to be held, clearly taking longer than a seven day trip would allow. Although based on other guest experiences ours seemed to be an isolated issue…. Building stayed in was by the children’s pool. Most we spoke to were by the main pool and raved about their service.

Great vacation destination

Everything runs pretty smoothly. Friendly staff, at the buffet. Bar staff aren't very quick to serve, so it took patience when waiting. Food is unique, and not what we're used to, but plentiful. Considering all that is involved for Cuba to provide the necessities that we take for granted, I was pleased with all that was provided for the price.

Good Resort, but not 5 stars.

The hotel needs comprehensive renovations: Bathroom with mold, Balcony doors not closing, Cockroaches in the bread stand of the restaurant. Safety box not working. Receptionists were attending your needs only if you give them tips upfront. Hola Sun rep was not to be found during our stay.

Amazing

Just came back from a 5 day vacation at Melia. Had a great time and kids had a blast. It is a clean resort with the majority of the facilities working except for some of the hand dryers were not working in some of the common area toilets. Some of the toilets run out of tissue. Room was clean but dated, air-conditioning was cold. The food was the same everyday, but you will never go hungry. Pleasant staff. Overall, it is an amazing resort for what Cuba has to offer. Not so great experience

Customer service especially receptionist are very rude. They only have one buffet restaurant, one international, Italian and Japanese restaurants. They only have one standard bar and don't go with website list as this is the reality.

Lovely Resort

The resort has beautiful grounds and is clean and well maintained. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The restaurants are easy to book and the food was very good. The buffet had a wide variety every day and the a la cartes had super service. There are tons of activities for singles, couples and families and the entertainment team was superb. Also, beach towels often run out. The towels are not the resort's fault, but rather the fault of selfish guests.

Nice resort!

Just spent a week at this hotel and we’re very pleased with everything! Booked the vacation with uncertain expectations due to Covid and supply shortages in Cuba. The beach was exceptionally nice and clean. The hotel and grounds were well maintained and clean. The rooms could use a little upgrading ( bathroom and showers amazing). The staff were very outgoing and friendly and seemed to go the extra mile to make our vacation great. This resort had all the condiments that’s my teenagers love!

Fantastic resort

Nice staff, beautiful beach and plenty of foods.There is one restaurant near swimming pool to provide 24 hours of food service. Free Wi-Fi is also fast enough for us to keep in touch with friends and relatives outside of cuba.

Relaxing place

Overall the place was good. they did run out of toiler paper but other than that I had a relaxing time at this resort. staff was very friendly. lots of families. beach was very nice and clean. enjoyed the fun and drinks

It was a nice resort

I found this place nice and the staff were friendly. The room was not in great shape and needed some repairs. The towels were not changed for five days. Some plugs did not work. The other areas were nice.

Beautiful Resort

The grounds at this resort are amazing very well kept and really nice and green. The pool and beach area lots of room we were able to find a lounger any time we went to either. However, we spend majority of our time at the beach. You can walk for miles on the beach. The staff went beyond and back to help you. The service was great. I feel the resort was onl [... read more]y operating at 50 per occupancy. The resort did their best with their food. There was plenty of chicken, pork, eggs and fish. Limited pasta and bread. On our last day there was no milk even at the airport for our coffee. Cuba is just started to get back on their feet for tourism. Speaking to others on that attended resorts in Varadero there was always something that the resort ran out of during their stay. However during our stay the resort never ran out of wine. We knew that food could be an issue before we booked. We have no regrets going to this resort the people of Cuba always treated us with great kindness. Only thing there was no hand sanitizer at the resort. The beach and pool restaurant the hand dryer was not working. Some of the workers wore facemask while others never wore them. Bottom line we still had a fantastic vacation which we booked seven-days prior to departure. All Canadians remember don't tip with Loonies or Tonnies the workers have no way of cashing them in for money. My spouse felt sorry for the workers and went around and cashed in her paper money for coin.

Good value!! Had a great time!

Pros - the beach is amazing, the pool and swim up pool bar is amazing, great selection of drinks and access to drinks/bars, bungalow concept for rooms was really nice and allowed us to walk around and enjoy the weather/scenery, coffee bar and latte’s near main lobby were absolutely amazing!, the nightly bands/singers were pretty good although short sets. The food - breakfast had an awesome spread - omelettes, waffles, pastries, egg station, bacon, etc.- was great. Cons - the room was pretty basic, we had a problem with our shower but it wasn’t a deal breaker. For the price great value we had a great week!!!

Very nice resort!

The facilities were super clean, beach was amazing, staff super friendly, access to doctors, spa, gym, tennis, etc…couldn’t ask for more. Weather in CUBA has always been super nice every time I’ve been. This was my 11th time.

Melia Peninsula Varadero Cuba

I found the hotel very well equipped and comfortable. The air-conditioning did not work Power went out every day at least three to four times per day The food was good, and the hotel staff are doing a very good job post covid with cleaning and at the buffet.

Beach amazing. Staff wonderful. Great cappuccinos. Resort rooms need upgrading. Supply issues for everything but meat, pasta and rice. Day 3 of 7 they ran out of wine !!!! They ran out of wine!!!! They ran out of wine !!!!

Nice family resort, but missing some amenities due to low occupancy.

We had a great time staying at this resort as a family with 2 kids (2 and 4 years old). A few things weren't ideal. 1) Timing of meals. The lunch buffet started at 1 pm and dinner at 7 pm. Restaurant that normally opens at 11 am by kid pool was closed so the only place to get lunch before 1 pm was the snack bar at the adult pool which had very limited options. It's a bit of a walk from the room to the beach. We really liked the bunk beds in the family room and the proximity to the kid pool, but for some families it may be more convenient to get a regular room closer to the beach. It's easy to take a stroller to the kid pool. It's more challenging to take a stroller to the beach. We really liked the kid pool with water slides. The resort was not busy at all so it was easy to get shady spots on the beach and by the pool. The staff were all incredibly friendly.

Awesome choice!

Our agent, Carol Webber recommended Melia Peninsula varadero and I am so glad we went with it. Was better than expected. My biggest concern was the bathroom but I was relieved to find it clean, well maintained and modern. Food wasn’t the best with same food day in day out but it wasn’t bad. The hotel restaurants could do better - felt like buffet was food served at the Italian one. The Japanese one was a good experience but the food was blah - we ended up at the buffet after. Serious faces with an attitude are not warm and welcoming.

Melia Peninsula Varadero

We had a great stay at this resort. This resort is small in size and everything is close by. The rooms are simple and clean and all have hot water and an air conditioner. We stayed right in front of the only swimming pool and the snack bar. Food-wise was a limited choice, as many products are not available in Cuba; for example, the snack bar had limited food such as hamburgers, fries, tuna sandwitches and hotdogs but, it run out of food sometimes, and the other restaurants were kind of recycling [... read more] the other food with some creative food recipe choices. Staff are respectful and caring and they are welcoming. The grounds are kept clean, the beach is amazing, and it has sufficient chairs for everyone. They offer transportation with your package, and that is very helpful. There was some entertainment, such as pool Zumba, water polo and dance classes. My only suggestion is to try to showcase their culture a bit more, there were a lot of international themes, but most people coming are from different parts of Europe and America, and it would be nice to see to learn about the culture of Cuba. Drinks the beer was nice, and rum with coke, besides that, drinks were not that great. Overall, I give the resort 3 stars, as I have been to others that are better maintained, and have better food choices.

Ok resort

Melia Peninsula had a nice enough beachfront with lots to do in the water. A little deceiving though because you would think that all the water stuff would be free but it isn’t. The pools were really nice and big and the waterslide was a hit with the kids, but they were not clean they were very dirty especially the adult pool. Lots and lots of walking to go to meals, to pools, and to the beach. Shows were good mostly quite good some a bit silly. Most staff were very accommodating, but at times neglectful. The food was quite bad in the fact that it was redundant every single day there was hardly any changes in the menu at the Buffet. they are very stingy with food at the pool bar, and they didn’t serve wine there which made me sad lol. I would say the front desk staff were not the greatest. Espresso‘s were amazing at the espresso bar and the staff are really good there tooo. The kitchen manager is what made my trip better! He was always checking in on us. Dinner didn’t start till 7 PM! That’s outrageous knowing this is a family resort! I am not sure if I’d go back there but I wouldn’t suggest not going there but it wasn’t my most favourite spot.

Worst experience ever! DO NOT stay here

Looks can be deceiving! What looks like a beautiful newer resort on the outside, was an absolute nightmare to stay in. From the resort running out of food daily to feed guests, to having to wait up to 45 minutes to receive food. Fire alarms going off almost nightly. Air conditioners in rooms no working, cockroaches' in room! 6 a la cart restaurants closed. Miserable staff and no communication between staff & customer service.
