Worthy of a Repeat

The hotel itself was clean, staff were helpful and food was in abundance. The elevator and AC worked great. Of the 2 single beds - one was comfortable and the other squished sideways when laid upon. Pillows were thin, but not lumpy. The beach is nearby - just have to ignore the garbage left by tourists and locals. No one ever sees it as his/her job to maintain the beauty of the landscape. Declining resort

The hotel is falling apart. No repairs are done. I was here two years ago and it's worse than it was.The food is really really bad and the wait staff is indifferent at best. At least the beach is good. And it's only a 20 minuit ride to Havana.

Good value

Although Tropicoco is nothing spectacular, it served the purpose of my trip very well. The beach is ok, I tool nice long walks along the shore in either direction. The area is safe, no one has hassled me. Food was ok, not fancy but I always find something good to eat. The daily freshly made bread, even just with butter, was amazing. Plenty of fruits and vegetables. It actually exceeded my expectation of a two star Cuban hotel. The free shuttle bus (a quick 20 minute ride) to the center of the [... read more] old city. facilitated my daily visit to Havana either for a full day or a half day. The problems were the lack of beach and room towels, and sun tanning beds. The elevator didn't work for a couple of days. Drinks were basic, they don't even offer Mijitos. I am also happy with the service from the agent Miranda Mawdsley. It has been a good experience.

Delivered as expected

This hotel was clean and delivered as I expected. Our TV did not work nor did the air conditioner. But to be honest, we didn't need either. So we were happy with our stay. Staff was great. Service slow but polite.

Basic hotel with easy access to Havana...

This hotel is across the road from the beach. It is very basic. Food is ok. Don't expect a four star stay at a bargain price. I have been to the Tropicoco many times. There was problems with the room phone this time and one day there was no water for hours.

Worst pllace to go

If paying more than $400, not worth going, better to fly and stay at a casa. Management does not want to listen to your complaints. Lift is out of order, good luck finding a place on the second floor. Food was below average, even if you feed the stray dogs and cats, they too don't want to eat the food.

Not amazing resort

Very small rooms, food not good at all. Staff is friendly. Beach is not that close to the hotel. Entertainment area is very hot and humid. Close to Havana, free shuttle. Beach is good. Still would not recommend to my friends.

Cuban Resort

If you want the real Cuban experience and are sick and tired of staying at those overpriced resorts that say there four or five stars, well guess what there not, the Tropicoco hotel which I stayed at is rated at a 2 star hotel and let me tell you the food and the staff were much better than the 4 star that I stayed at in Veradero. beach is packed with Cuban everyday the hotel is packed with Cuban everyday it great if you don't want to stay with those tourists if you know what I mean. Met expectations

I had read reviews of the hotel and I think they prepared me well. Tropicoco is a two star and therefore not luxurious. The rooms are large, clean but very sparse. Many have a great view. No balcony in either of the two rooms I had ( I switched for a better view). Staff were hard working and efficient. Food was as bad as everyone says. Plastic cups for drinks at the bar. I would go back.

The beach and proximity to Havana

The hotel is 2.5 star so do not expect much. But if you want a perfect beach and a convenient location to do sightseeing in Havana this is the hotel to choose. Good and polite service. Food: meats are excellent veggies bland. Entertainment: two years ago very good this year not so much. Cuban dance shows always very nice. Pool: not good but what for do u need a pool when u have a perfect beach?

Good Experience, May not be for everyone

Good place for couples, groups of friends - wouldn't recommend for solo. Beautiful beach, nice staff, our room on the 4th floor was great. Food was okay - I would return. Close to Havana and great day trips through sunwing.

Tropicoo

Requires a lot of work water rooms etc staff very good limited bar good location to beach close to habanna good enternment no internet which is poor people from all over very friendly really missed the hot water for washing and showering

Good place for little money

Tropicoco is a great place for little money! Good location. You can take a shuttle bus to Havana twice a day 9 30 am and 2 30 pm. You can also go to Guanabo by taxi (5 CUC) to meet local people and have a great time with Cubans. If you want to be at the resort the whole trip Tropicoco is not place for you. You will be bored after 2 days. However if you are open for adventures especially (guys) Tropicoco is PERFECT place to go!!!

Good resort

I do say good in general, th food it was good, the areas clean, the pool little cold for swimming but good, entertainment was good, but could be better in that department, but im glad of my experience, thanks for the concern, marta.

Old and tired hotel

This hotel is good only as a base for exploring Havana and area. The beach is very nice and great for relaxing. I would not recommend this hotel for families. The hotel lobby is poorly lit and there is no place to sit outside that is comfortable.

Just Basic

Basic food, basic room, excellent location, very, very POOR Reception staff - very rude and very unfriendly. Good location; good restaurant service; not good housekeeping - skipped housekeeping for 2 days.

Okay Hotel, lacking in proper food handling.

The place is a worn out but it was what I expected for the price and a 2 star. The staff are very nice and gave us great service We tipped modestly at $1 per meal and each daytime or evening spent at the bar. The big issue is the food handling. My husband got violently ill from the food for 4 days. The cook puts his thumb on the cheese when he spoons it to make an omelet for you. To be fair it was only one of the cooks.

I'm a big fan of this place......

I have stayed here about 5 times now and I love it. The beach right across the street is superb. The staff are pretty nice and accomodating.. super nice if you tip them... which is always a good idea in Cuba. The rooms are very basic but clean. A few great english movie channels. My air conditioning has always been super. There are organized activites through the Sunwing desk like snorkelling and dolphins etc. You get a free shuttle daily to and from Havana and it's only about 20 minutes. The fo [... read more]od is fine by Cuban standards.. you will never go hungry. I LOVE this place... especially the package price. (NOTE: there is prostitution but it's very easy to ignore.)

Tropicoco Hotel

The location of Tropicoco is excellent, close with Havana and the daily free shuttle to Havana was superb! The hotel architecture is unique in the idea to represent a ship. This hotel provides very good service for a 3 star hotel.

Adequate

Rooms are pretty dilapidated, grounds and common areas are acceptable, good pool, food was adequate, staff was friendly and closeness and shuttle to Havana were pluses. I was bitten by flies and got infected at the beach.
