Definitely try elsewhere

First off, this is my 8th time to Cuba. We know what to expect, we understand the food and drinks and have never complained until now. To say there are "shortages" would be an extreme understatement. We visited other resorts and had friends at others in Varadero while we were there and they had very few things missing (mostly TP and tequila). Shame on Sunwing and Trip central for selling this resort. The staff were even commenting on how bad it's gotten and how the quality since ownersh [... read more]ip changed has been terrible. We had no pop 6 out of the 7 days, no vodka, rye or tequila the entire trip, and the last day and a half no rum! We only had dark rum earlier in the week, never had white rum the entire trip. We paid for select service which gave us the chill out bar, and that was the only place the drinks were decent enough the drink but only in the evenings and during dinner so not much time there. The food, well again, we are not picky, been to Cuba many times and yet this was horrifying. I'm not sure if the resort or people involved are paying for reviews, but we booked here due to the good reviews, and this is far from the truth! Again, a party of 4, we are simple eaters and have been to Cuba many many times with no issue. The food was absolutely terrible. I can't believe we paid what we did for this resort and we are not happy. No drinks, no juice, no pop and not much for food. Buffet was really bad, although the bread was good. Same food reused from breakfast through dinner and not at the correct temperatures. No pizza, fries, or simple food you normally get. Raw chicken, NO fresh fish other than a black fish with so many bones you wouldn't be able to eat it. For 2 days they actually served the TAIL of the fish, not even the actual fish (gross). We didn't have hotdogs or burgers as they stated and we went many times to the "24 hour snack bar" and it was not serving any food at all. The coffee bar was the best part of the resort, friendly staff and great coffee. Definitely not worth all the money paid to go though. Sunwing has options listed that you get for select and they aren't even accurate and when the rep spoke with the desk, they said no and that they have told Sunwing to change the listing many times so not helpful to us. To say we are disappointed is an extreme understatement. Definitely got rooked, would say more but at the end of the day, buyer beware and stay away! Go to Paridusus or Royalton right down the road, beautiful, no shortages and amazing food.

Amazing Resort Design

We were at Blau Varadero for 7 days in March 2024. The hotel is huge and spacious. Inside foyer and courtroom decorated with live plant festooned many floors high are quite impressive. The Select room we stayed in was quite big and nicely equipped. The room service was thorough and efficient. Room Tv program quality was terrible! Food was availabe as buffet. There were many vegetables, fruits and baked goods. Pork and beef were poorly cooked. Chicken were hard to find but edible. There were [... read more] no eggs or egg containing meals. The a la carte dinners were nicely set with the string quartet playing classical and popular music. The food was nicely served but again pork and beef were poorly cooked (either chewy or hard to bite), we settled for chicken and we were OK. Hospitality and eagerness of the staff to make guests happy were quite touching. For this alone we might consider going there again.

Wonderful hotel

The hotel is beautiful , everything is close by . There are several places to get a drink in the hotel, at the lobby bar, the piano bar , the pool bar and 2 bars near the beach one which is open 24 hours . The animation team does an amazing job offering activities for the guests. Everyone who works at the Blau are extremely friendly amd willing to assist you with whatever you may need. A great place !

Great Resort

We were quite pleased with this resort, Everything was good, cant complain. We arrived at the resort around 11:30 am. They checked us in and gave us our room right away. Was quite relaxing and everything flowed smoothly.. Even the flight was on time. Our return trip we were actually 15 minutes early. Sunwing did a great job. Sunwing provided champagne and a dinner at the resort one night that we were pleased with.

Great Time

Everything was great about this resort except one big thing Hotel, pool, beach, staff,our room entertainment was at a very enjoyable level, made for a great vacation The one glaring flaw in the whole trip was the food, it was terrible No variety No bacon sausage hash browns home fries oranges grapefruit bananas watermelon lettuce Sometimes No butter Hot items off grill lunch and dinner for all 7 days fish or pork chop

Perfect Holiday

First time in Cuba & this resort was as nice as any we’ve stayed at elsewhere (Mexico, DR). Spacious, clean rooms. Meticulously kept grounds. Very lovely natural areas on the property (not all concrete). Resorts are not on top of each other & very few beach vendors. Numerous beach chairs available & many permanent thatched umbrellas. The beach restaurant is amazing, you can also order paninis which are delicious. Pool side bar & restaurant are quite enjoyable. The main buffet has great breakfasts - eggs & omelettes & French toast & pancakes & smoothies made while you wait. There was a shortage of chicken, beef & fruit (and vodka & gin) but plenty of other food & drink that it didn’t matter at all. The coffee in the buffet is weak but the coffee bar is amazing (latte, cappuccino, Irish coffee, Americano..). The employees are so sweet & accommodating. We made use of the tennis & pickle ball courts, the badminton & ping pong and the volleyball net on the beach. There were other activities that we just didn’t have time for! The lobby is beautiful with natural vines. There are many lawn chairs around the pool. The nightly entertainment is very good and ends by 10:30/11:00. The wifi connection doesn’t last long without reconnecting (but not the end of the world). We did bring a few supplies (pita, peanut butter, Costco snacks such as trail mix & peanuts, S&P, hot sauce, cup of soup, Kleenex). I would bring canned tuna, face cloths, conditioner, cereal next time. Transportation from airport is an hour max (depends on drop offs). No one suffered from Gastro ailments but we did bring meds just in case.

Best Hotel !!!

The hotel is clean, great music and good atmosphere, piano, violin, sopranos, chelo and life band every night. The beach is amazing ?? , food is okay, always enough choices people are very nice and friendly. It was a wonderful week ? ?.

The best resort so far in Cuba

We have been to Cuba for 20 times and this resort was by far the best that I ever been at. The food was good. There was always lots to eat. The hamburgers are awesome. I have never eaten meat in Cuba before. The staff was awesome. The room was clean with a great oceanview. The lobby with the hanging plants is breathtaking. The resort was quaint and cozy. Great resort!

Stayed in the Oceanview select room on the 8th floor. The room was beautiful spacious and clean. Maid service was phenomenal! Designs on my bed daily, the room was always immaculate when she left. Food was very good! A bit of wait in the buffet because there are a lot of people at the resort but only 2 a la carte resturants. Beach is a beautiful area with lots of room. Great resort

The hotel had beautiful rooms on the non ocean view side. The food at the A lcart restaurants was good considering it’s Cuba! The main buffet is typically busy and it’s important to get there early for a better selection of food. The grounds were well kept and they had hot dogs and burgers everyday at the beach bar no French fries though! Great chocolate and vanilla ice cream everyday.

Wonderful resort

The Blau was a wonderful place to spend the week. The staff were very friendly no matter what part of the hotel we were at. The food was delicious, some repetition but that was to be expected due to supply shortages that Cuba faces . There was plenty of activities and entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening. A great place to stay!

Wonderful Resort, even better staff!

I never write reviews but Blau Varadero deserves one. From start to finish, our experience was fantastic. The hotel lobby is stunning. The rooms are not super fancy but they are updated and clean. The food was some of the best I’ve had in Cuba - For reference, I’ve been to Cuba over a dozen times. They had a variety of meat options including chicken, pork, beef and fish. The staff is exceptional. They remember your name, they’re attentive and friendly and go above and beyond. Jennifer at the main buffet is wonderful and I hope to see her again! I have no doubt that I will stay at Blau Varadero again and hopefully sooner than later!

Excellent resort!

The hotel Blau is cozy with big spaces of restful areas, lobby and atrium. Rooms are clean, spacious with wide balconies. Room service was very good. There are several bars and restaurants with great service. Beach is excellent with amazing entertainment and animation team.

Beautiful and Friendly

Traveled December 3-10. First time at this resort. Will be back again for sure. Room: little outdated but clean and functioning. Great maid service, cute towel and blanket displays all week. Handwritten notes from staff. comfortable beds, great view. Air worked really well and always had lots of hot water and pressure. Lobby / central area: Loved the vines, so pretty, especially at night. Lots of places to sit, chat, relax, listen to music or hang out. Loved the open concept. Only complaint. Ohh and we got stuck a few times on the elevator. Not a big deal, ring the bell and within minuets you are moving again. Food: Had heard mixed reviews on the Al carte so we skipped it. I have a very sensitive stomach and never ever went hungry. Infact was able to eat the bread there unlike back home. Food was decent, lots of it. Didn't eat half the snacks I brought just in case. It is Cuba... lower your expectations and you will be happy and full. Staff: They are all so friendly and helpful. Can't speak highly enough about them. Smiles all day every day. A few very helpful helping secure decorations for my birthday dinner and baked me a cake. So sweet of them and truly appreciated. Beach: Close second behind Cayo Coco. Clean well kept. Bar and bathroom close by. Entertainment staff fun and energetic. Pool: Large pool, lots of room to swim or float in. Different levels of water. Beauitful. Entertainment: Live music throughout the day and night around the pool and lobby bar. Two great sax players, good rock band, great water show. No shows at the Theatre. 5/7 nights we danced for several hours in the beach bar. Great music, great bartender and friendly DJ. He was open to requests and did a great job, The other two-nights DJ would not play anything you asked for, only played techno beat overlays. Was horrible... we are not all in our 20's liking that style. Sad too as it was my birthday and was looking forward to dancing all night. Walked out to the street watched a bunch of old cars drive by. Took one to town to go for dinner and dancing at the Beatles bar. Amazing rick band that night. Dinner was disappointing. Lack of options. Should have eaten on the resort. Already planning next the next trip back. Beautiful beaches, resort and people. Its CUBA... leave your stuffy attitudes and high expectations at home and enjoy it. Clean, friendly and sunshine. Can't ask for more!!

Amazing Resort

Everything at the Blau is top notch, the grounds are very clean, the washrooms are kept up to date with toilet paper. Some toilets do not have seats. Entertainment is wonderful and often. Dining rooms are very nice. The food definitely needs improving. There isn't enough choice for vegetarians.

Amazing resort!

We had a great vacation experience. - Rooms are big, clean, and comfortable with all necessities provided, daily well cleaned. Daily furnished with water, coffee, and beer. - On the bars, Caribbean endless cocktail list. Wines (white and red). - Daily entertainments with a top on weekly Cuba day (each Thursday). - The staffs are professional, friendly, smiling, and open to any customer requests. - Animation team is spectacular!

I liked resort.

Beautiful hotel building, large area. Nice big rooms, liked the public areas. The dining room and menu could be much better for such a resort for selected persons. I didn't like the service on the beach. Special thanks to the massage therapists of the spa salon, show artists and restaurant staff who cooked dinner, and the maids who cleaned the room.

Amazing Stay

Our stay was very nice. The hotel is amazing It is located near beach, the architecture is stunning White sand beach is long and beautiful Programs and activities were well organized Staff was friendly and helpful

Best in Varadero

I have been to this resort many times, it is a quiet adults only resort. If you choose the SELECT option, you have unlimited alacarte restaurants, the VIP lounge with premium alcohol, cushions on your chairs by the pool. The beach is beautiful. The food is actually good at this resort. Shortage of breakfast foods which all of Cuba is at this time. There is a 24 hour beach bar that can be quite fun at night time. Staff is very friendly and remember you when you return. 20 min taxi ride from the a [... read more]irport. Highly recommended.

BlU veradero

Wow, Varadero was a really nice hotel. We really enjoyed the pool and the ocean the food. Well we all know what to expect there, but we have some good meals and slot a good times met some really good people and thanks Martin. Really happy to use you and we will use you again.
