Amazing resort

This is one of the cleanest resorts we have been to. Well kept inside and out. Our room was wonderful house keeping during the day and turn down service at night. The staff was excellent always helpful,polite and friendly. We enjoyed the fact we did not have to reserve for the dining rooms. There was always something going on at the beach and at the pool. Yes there was some seaweed no biggie. Would we go back YES !!!!!

Wonderful resort

The resort, restaurants, beach, pool and staff are all fabulous. We would definitely return. We stayed at the preferred section and enjoyed how conveniently it was located to everything. We enjoyed our dinners at all of the restaurants as well as the Mercur at the Now Larimar. Service was excellent!

Perfect place to get away!!

Beautiful resort and beach. Food was good, rooms were clean and spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Main complaint is too many vendors coming up to you while on the beach (in the resort section).

Beautiful Resrot

Secrets Royal Beach was absolutely beautiful... the grounds were well-kept and romantically lit in the evenings, rooms were spacious and clean, service was good. Large, white sand beach but quite a bit of seaweed. We did not spend near as much time on the beach/in the ocean as we have in previous years at other locations. Highly recommend a swim-up room; poolside bar service meant that we could relax in our own "private" setting whenever we didn't feel like being part of the crowd. I [... read more]t made for a very relaxing holiday. Our favorite spots were the pool bar, the beach grill, Tamarindo (Mexican restaurant at Larimar), and Oceana (Seafood restaurant at Secrets). Pay attention to the dress codes at certain restaurants prior to travel to make sure you are equipped! None are out of the ordinary, but we did spot a group giving the staff at Oceana a hard time because the men did not have closed-toed shoes. We did very much like the food on the resort (and at the neighboring Larimar) but I will mention that 3 of the 4 travellers in our group got sick during our stay; 2 of which had taken Dukoral prior to trave. Sickness varied, lasting from 2-6 days. It is difficult to say whether this is a direct result of food/water on the resort but it seems likely, given that no one had consumed tap water or food from outside the resort grounds.

Good resort

Had some minor issues which were resolved fairly quickly. The staff was amazing! Food was fantastic. We paid for a romantic dinner on the beach which in the brochure and pictures in their elevators shows you have a private cabana. You do not, you are at a small table right on the beach. Other than that, everything was great.

Relaxing - Good and Bad

The hotel itself was nice and the rooms were fantastic, large, and clean. The staff was all around very friendly. I went solo as a woman (not single) so was looking for somewhere to feel safe and not bothered and this was a great place for that. Unfortunately, the weather was rainy but that’s out of control of the place. I’d say the biggest downfall was the food was gross. I’m not even a picky eater but it (all of it) was completely disgusting and it was pumped out like a factory. On the  [... read more]sunny day I had the beach was fantastic and the pool was fun and the gym is good. Nightlife was half decent and I liked the option to go over to the family hotel beside for more action.

Great Resort!

Loved this resort! Preferred is not necessary as the resort Is lovely without the upgrade. Would recommend this resort . Great service , food !! Rooms are large and spacious. We had room overlooking pool! Grounds are breathtaking and well mantained.

Secrets

Good hotel great beach and a variety of restaurants. Don't select the tropical view as it is a view of the service road .we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone. Rooms were dated but clean and well stocked

Decent resort

This resort was nice but also starting to show its age. I preferred several other secrets resorts that I have visited over this resort. There is a very nice beach with friendly and regular service for drinks. The buffet restaurant was good quality and the resort had several decent restaurants. However the quality of service varied greatly. In general it seemed that many of the servers would avoid a gay couple while attending to others nearby. There is a very minimal room service menu. T [... read more]here is also a very nice lazy river for relaxing but a very limited number of seats pool side which was challenging on days when it was too windy to be on the beach. You need to arrive early (before 8) in the morning to secure a beach chair poolside. Wifi on resort was weak and intermittent which made it difficult to complete any work or browse the internet. Overall this resort was a good experience but I would not be likely to return as there are other resorts with better service and amenities in this price range.

Wonderful vacation!

We just returned from a week at Secrets Royal Beach, Punta Cana. It was an amazing resort! Our room was beautiful, the food was great and the beach was beautiful. We definitely recommend going with the Preferred Club accommodations. Having a separate beach area was a definite plus.

Beautiful Area & Staff

I have stayed at many, many all inclusive resorts over the years, and have accepted that there will be mostly good, and some not so good parts of all of them. And I am not a complainer. That said, I was actually disappointed enough in the food this time to write it down. And the only reason this time is that you sell this resort as a 5 star, and it is not that. It may have been at one point in time, but it is not any longer. I understand the need to control food costs as much as possible, whil [... read more]e still providing guests with variety and creativity. However it was very obvious that the food in the a la carte restaurants was for the most part an extension of what was on the buffet, dressed up on a plate, and or some concoction that was put together with ingredients from the previous day's buffet items. This is not the expectation of what a person should see on a menu in a 5-star resort. Some crossover is acceptable, and expected, but this was too much. The only exception was the Seaside Grill which is a steak restaurant, and that you could not fake. But the rest were very disappointing. Seafood restaurant was the biggest let down, in a place where seafood is plentiful and fresh this should not be. I don't even know what I was eating. And what is with the Asian restaurant having falafal and baklava on the menu?? Last I checked the middle east and asia are pretty far away from each other lol! We didn't even bother with that one. Again, this is odd for me as I take things in stride and accept that the food will be good, and that there will be options always, but I had to provide my feedback this time. Please reconsider your rating for this hotel. You are not providing accurate assessment of this property with a 5-star rating. I have been to 4 stars with better food options than this, and got what I had expected. If you set the bar at 5-star, you better be sure the resort can deliver. On the plus side, the resort was very lovely and well kept, and the highlight was the staff who always greeted you with a smile. A shout out to Israel and Santa in the Italian restaurant bar. They were a lot of fun, with a couple of evenings of well poured, top-shelf beverages, and their enthusiasm and smiles. These two are a definite asset. Overall a good vacation, disappointed in the food for the first time in the 6 trips I have made to the DR.

Beautiful, Comfortable but not yet a 5 Star

We have travellled Mexico and the Caribbean extensively over the last 30 years therefore we believe we can give an honest review of Secrets Royal Beach. We enjoy adults only resorts and have now been to six different Secrets resorts. This resort is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are immaculate and very pretty. We arrived on Dec 9th, the drive from the airport was very comfortable, and short. Our room was not ready when we checked in, however, we expected that as it was just after noon (our fl [... read more]ight was very early in the morning) but at 3pm our room was ready. Well worth the short wait. The room was well appointed, spotless and very pleasing not to mention very comfortable. Thank you Ana Rosa for doing a great job (rm 4310). We stayed at the beach the entire week during the day. It was perfect. Soft sand, great palapas for shade and very comfortable loungers. We had read that the vendors on the beach were bothersome, but we didn’t find that at all. A few approached us but we just said “no gracias” and away they went. The water was murky the first few days due to rain the previous week but cleared up half way thru our vacation. The only complaint we would have is that there is only 1 restroom for all the guests on the beach. More are needed. Suggestion: move the photo booth to the lobby and put in more restrooms. The pool was just a very short walk from where we sat on the beach. It was surprisingly cold to get into but after a few minutes felt good. It was clean for the most part, however the lazy river could use some scrubbing. It looked like algae was starting to build up under the water level. The lazy river is great to float around or even walk through. A very big negative for us, around and in the pool was the smoking. Many times we saw people smoking IN the pool. This should be outlawed immediately. Ashes are dropping into the water (gross) and people are waving their cigs around and could poke another guest in the face. We know that the DR allows outdoor smoking but other Secrets resorts have designated smoking areas. There is nothing worse that sitting by the pool and someone nearby lights up a cigar. Not only is that inconsiderate by the other guest, but the hotel should step up and ask these people to refrain around non-smoking guests. Answer: designated smoking area. Keeps the pool area clean, odor free and all guests happy. The foam party was awesome, but again we saw other guests smoking during this fun event. Simply an accident waiting to happen. Moving on. We were extremely happy with the Seaside Grill and The Himitsu restaurants. The food and the service was awesome. Jenrry, Juan Carlos and Edisson made our day. Great service from these gentlemen. The ribeye in the Seaside was to die for. Comparable to The Keg here in Canada. Soooo Good! The hibachi table was fun. We went to The Himitsu our first night and watched the hibachi tables and saw that Edisson was the best so we booked for his table when we went later in the week. He did not disappoint. We had a fun time with him. The buffet, La Riviera was somewhat disappointing. Unless you went to the omelette bar, the eggs sitting out, as well as the French toast and pancakes, bacon etc were cold. You had to get them and take them to the omelette bar to get them heated up. It is a smaller buffet than most of the other Secrets we’ve been to. All in all though, the food was good tasting. We would like to thank Juan Duarte , Rudy and Liliana for their great service. All in all, our vacation was very positive. The weather was simply fantastic. Our only real complaint was the bar. As Canadians, we drink Canadian Club rye whiskey (CC). The Secrets brand advertise top shelf spirits, however this Secrets either didn’t stock it in their bars or kept it hidden. Then they would try to pass off bourbon to us. We even had a server roll his eyes at us when we asked for Cc and sprite. Generally their answer was that they didn’t have it. We had read on TripAdvisor before we came that management ask that you go to see them while you are on your vacation rather than complaining about it after you are home, so we went to a manager, Raquel about half way thru our vacay. For the rest of the week, all of the bars gave us no attitude and always had this liquor, except the pool bar. They actually had some hidden below in a cupboard, told us they didn’t have any, but once we mentioned Raquel’s name, all of a sudden they had a bottle available. This type of practice brings the overall guest experience down. We love the Secrets brand so this type of behaviour is unacceptable. Guests are paying more for this brand than other resorts so please don’t nickel and dime the guests. We would like to thank Raquel for assisting us in getting our Canadian Rye Whiskey. It tastes so much better than bourbon! Our stay was very relaxing and comfortable. We would rate this resort a 4. Im sure if the smoking and the bar service was addressed on a daily basis, it could rise to a true 5 star in no time. It certainly has the foundation to become great. Until the smoking issue is addressed, we will likely continue our journey to other Secrets before returning.

GOOD AND BAD

its was not what was explained to us at all , nobody understood English and just answered everything with yes , food was rarely even cooked and sat out with flies on it all day. constantly hounded by people on the beach and they were all over the resort for a flea market and chased us right to our restaurant. photographer told us $10 for a picture and then we had to end up paying for a bunch of pictures when we only wanted one but got tired of trying to explain this to him. TV , fridge and safe  [... read more]all had to be fixed in our room . Fridge as only filled twice in 7 days . We had to walk all the way across the resort EVERYDAY to get beverages and water

An Enjoyable Vacation

The resort was very nice as everything seemed new, in good condition and cleaned daily. There were daily activities and a lot of polite enthusiasm from the entertainment staff to encourage involvement (i.e., won't ask you if you aren't making eye contact/look kind of interested). The beach was beautifully kept, the equipment you can rent out is enjoyable, and the beach volleyball lasted hours. There were plenty of seats, great towel service. However, to get a private palm tree umbrella you'll  [... read more]need to be on the beach by 9:00/10:00 and to get the best ones (great view) you will need to be there by 8:00, although the second tiered ones were still nice. This is a small resort and not lively, ergo, it is very peaceful and relaxing without many obnoxious characters. However, expect a minimum nightlife (enjoy the casino, the roulette was very entertaining). There were plenty of options for food/drinks as you could take advantage of the amenities of the sister resort which was directly connected to secrets royal beach. Overall the food was nothing to write home about and the best part was it's abundance and ease of access (we went for dinner around 5-8 every night and did not need reservations at any restaurant). The drinks were delicious and there was a large variety of them. You can order sparkling/red/white wine to be delivered to your room free of charge whenever you would like. The beer (Presidente) was okay (it's a light beer), but you could always go to the lobby bar/order room service to get Budweiser bottles. The cups you get from the beach/pool bar were great (hard plastic, large size), no need to bring your own drinking container. The lazy river style of pool was very nice and ensured that you could find privacy from the crowds if you desired (essentially allowed you to have your own private pool). We stayed in a Garden View Room which was very close to the main stage. The stage was incredibly loud every night from ~8-10 as they always had a show at night/welcome to new guests (I'd suggest a pool/ocean view room if this poses a problem). However, this was the only detractor from the room and you could easily grit your teeth and ignore the noise/leave the room. The mini-bar in the room was restocked daily with beer/pop, and the room service was quick and just as good as any food from the restaurants (I'd stay away from pizza/large amounts of cheese, it isn't the best quality). Overall, the resort was nice, provided a very relaxing/enjoyable vacation and was of great value.

Beautiful Resort

We were very pleased with our vacation at the Secrets Royal Beach resort. The resort was beautiful, the staff were friendly, courteous and were always there to ensure that you were enjoying your stay, and the food was very good. The restaurants allowed for a good variety, the quality and presentation was excellent, and the staff were attentive to special dietary needs. The buffet however was of average quality, and as such we recommend dining at the restaurants. Some of the restaurants were  [... read more]located within the Now Larimar section of the property, which although was only a short walk, is not an Adults Only resort. The rooms were very clean, spacious and well decorated. The balcony with the aqua tub was a wonderful feature. Some minor improvements such as wine and snacks in the mini bar and upgraded pillows would be a welcome addition. We must add that our agent, O'Neil, went the extra mile to contact the hotel to advise them that we were celebrating a birthday, and the hotel in turn provided us with a room having a beautiful view in a premium location close to the beach. This extra touch was much appreciated. The beach area was beautiful and well maintained, with excellent service. There were some areas where the seating was quite concentrated, however it was easy enough to find a space somewhat removed, and the beach area was never crowded. The pools were stunning, offering both entertainment/activity areas as well as quiet private areas. One problem was that the seating around the entertainment pool was limited and we would have to go very early to ensure that we had lounge chairs in an area that offered some shade. In many areas the seating was rather close to the pool, resulting in a narrow pathway for walking between the pool and the lounge chairs. There were a couple of days that we found that the pool itself was not very clean. The entertainment team was awesome and very energetic, however compared to other resorts that we have stayed at we found that the activities were somewhat limited. We also found that the night time entertainment was somewhat lacking in quality. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay at the resort. Some small touches and improvements would help to make this a 5 star quality resort. On a scale of 1 to 10 we would rate the Secrets Royal Beach as an 8.

Secrets royal resort. Punts cana

The hotel was lovely, very clean, updated and very friendly staff. I found the evening entertainment to be amateur and the dance routines were very dated. Room service was excellent. We found the restaurants at the connecting hotel to be better than ours. Although kudos to the Japanese restaurant in our complex. It was entertaining as well as delicious.

Meh!

Staff were nice; especially Angel, he was great! Food was ok, Himitsu was very good, not the Tapenacki but the sit down portion was the best on the resort. Oceana was very bad. Seaside was also great! Swim up rooms are not private enough, waiters walking past your room every 3 minutes (great service but wanted privacy). Overall, not worth what we paid.

Wasn't what we expected

Hotel and Grounds were amazing. Staff incredible. The food..well..not what we anticipated. I would not rate it a 5 star by any means. Our swim up room was cool..except we were on a side here we had absolutely no sun during the day from am to pm so to pay extra was a waste. Very loud.. louder then we expected for adults only. If the music was 1/4 of what it was I would consider it relaxing. Fun..but wouldn't go back being as we spent most of our time at now Larimer next door.

Secrets Royal in Punta Cana

The place is wonderful. The staff is great, The food is good. Overall an excellent Hotel to be referred to. However, we are snorkeling fans and unfortunately found that the water is way from being clear. We always travel this time of year and normally head to where the Ambar is in Punta Cana where we find the water is much clearer. Other than that all was excellent...Thanks for asking!!!!

Wonderful trip

Only a short drive from the airport, we were welcomed warmly by the reception and given a cool towel and drink upon arrival. The rooms were spacious and clean. The king bed was very comfortable. The food is excellent at the buffet and at the a la carte restaurants. The staff are very friendly and the service is exceptional. Drinks were a plenty! Loads of loungers at the beach and the lazy river pool was a great place to cool off and relax. I would definitely return!
