Good experience

Had a good time and experience overall. Staffs are generally nice and friendly. The buffet choices are ok. The cooks are friendly. The only downside is the internet which is only available in the main lobby and the wifi connection lasts until 11pm.

Great resort in need of updating

Hotel Playa Paraiso is a lovely mid-sized resort a short drive from the Cayo Coco airport. The staff are wonderful, the pool pristine, and the beach one of the best I've visited. The buffet had a large variety of items to choose from to satisfy even the pickiest eater. The a la carte restaurants were just okay, the Cuban being my personal favourite. Shortages of certain foods and drinks were ongoing. For several days, there was no cola and no wine, and the beef dishes on the a la carte menus w [... read more]ere never available. For some strange reason, there also seemed to be a shortage of spoons, making it difficult to eat yogurt or ice cream with a fork. I think these are problems across the entire island, not just at Playa Paraiso, and did not have a negative effect on us. The rooms, however, are tired and in need of updating and repairs. We were in Building 3, a great location close to the pool, the beach, and the buffet. On the second day of our one week vacation, I tried to call the front desk to report the toilet not flushing, only to realize the phone didn't work either. The TV and the plug for shavers in the bathroom had not worked from the beginning. We walked to the desk where we were told Building 3 had no cable TV and they were experiencing trouble with the phones. Someone came to fix the toilet which worked for another day, then stopped flushing again. We were offered another room, but declined because we liked the location and resorted to manually flushing the toilet by filling the plastic liner of the garbage can with water from the tub. The towel exchange booth was closed until the day before we came home so we used the same beach towels all week, hanging them on the balcony to dry every evening. Better lighting on the outdoor walkways would have been helpful when trying to navigate our way back to the room at night. Also, none of the evening activities were posted so we were never sure if there was going to be a show or what time it might be happening. Internet in the room instead of just in the lobby and pool area would have been appreciated. Overall, the friendliness of the staff and the beauty of our surroundings more than made up for our 'first world' issues and I would not hesitate to return to Playa Paraiso.

Great Time

As we expected in Cuba food was not great, but they did their best to create some good foods. They ran out of certain food like fries, hamburgers, hot dogs and toilet paper at times....the lines for pasta and grills were long at times, unless you went to buffet after 8:00pm. We managed to get enough just not the finest food. The bars were pretty good although they didn't have Pina colada's & specialty drinks at times. The cappuccino were very good! The beach was the best, beautiful white sand, lots of chairs, shade and not a lot of waves so that you could go in the water which was so very nice and warm. For that alone I would go back there if the price was good. PS.....Bring ketchup, condiments, salt, pepper and hot sauce if you like.

We had a wonderful vacation!

We went last year for 2 weeks and did it again. If you are looking for an awesome beach with warm water with a beautiful blue color, easy to go in with sand under your feet this is the one! We loved having a few evening drinks and with Jordan working there it was lots of fun and we almost felt like family. Everybody is nice! Definitely Going Back

First time here and definitely coming back. Hotel and facilities are in great condition. Food was plentiful and lots of choice. Beach super. Followed our favorite friend and bartender from the Colonial here. His name is Liber and works in the Lobby bar. Met some other great staff Lilli, Jordani, Eileen, Jaime at Crillo Restaurant and George & Alexandro at Italian Restaurant. Reception desk staff were super helpful as well.

Beach was amazing

We chose this hotel for the beach which was amazing. The room was nice and clean, staff were great. Main complaint was the food and having to eat the same thing for every meal. The pool was always clean and lots of loungers.

Excellent Vacation

Just OK

The beach is beautiful, although if you are not there by 730am, you will not get a spot, the pool is great too but same issue with spots, 730 everything is taken...noticed that people actually had reserved signs on the chairs and sometimes the chairs and huts never got used all day, very annoying...No sheets on the bed and when i asked the maid, she just said "no sheets"...we slept with the filty brown blankets from the closet all week...Food was ok but exactly the same every day...no make your  [... read more]own pasta and no white wine the whole week I was there. Went to book restaurants 2nd say as we arrived late, Italian was full so we didnt get it....line ups to get into the buffet...

Needs a lot of work

upon our arrival we had no top sheet or comforter on our bed we had to use our towels in place of sheets. Ernesto told us it was a delivery problem but the same thing happened the next night and we had to have a fight in order to get sheets and we made the bed ourselves. No spoons at the resort so if you were having soup or ice cream you were out of luck. I was disappointed that no wine was served with our meals except at the Portugal a la carte. Most of the staff were very pleasant but were really overworked and then others had no smiles or even a good morning. Definitely will not be returning to this resort.

Good bang for your buck!

First of it has a well maintained grounds, the gardeners work hard to keep it pretty and appreciate any little token...My sister and I gave them gardening gloves stuffed with gum and money. We were in room 2103 and it was close to the pool , snack bar, lobby and buffet. Our room was cleaned every day, not always did you get fresh towels and we always got a large bottle water every day and toilet paper. I would suggest bringing a few of your own as there rolls are pretty small. The beach is just beautiful, the sand fleas can be a bother i would suggest spraying before you go down to bask in the sun.The A La`Cartes where pretty good, the Portuguesse was my fav.. Meh

the hotel amenities were nice, our room and the buildings were decent and clean. the beach is stunning and the water beautiful. our major disappointment was in the food. We have been to Cuba before and while we did not have high expectations of the food but we have never been quite this disappointed. The buffet was the exact same food every night (which was lacking to say the least), there were hardly any non pork options to eat, and the service in the buffet was lacking (it took so long to get  [... read more]any food due to lines etc.) the buffet definitely could have been set up in a more useful way... the 24 hour snack bar was a disappointment as well as it was never 24 hours. We probably attempted to get a snack at least 8-10 times in our 7 day stay and only successfully got any food 2 or 3 times. we would often go to the snack bar mid afternoon / early evening and we were either told "no" with no explanation as to why we couldn't get a snack or we would be told "20 minutes" and regardless of how many times we went back after 20 minutes the food was never available. While the resort location itself was nice I will not be recommending this stay.

Clean resort

Positives first. Very clean, beautiful beach, great drinks, nice relaxed atmosphere and perfect size for relaxation. Second time to Cuba, first after COVID. As usual the food was not great, sometimes not even good. Not many choices for snacking between meals. Potatoes were scarce and vegetables were always the same. Too much sauce on items. Kept running out of toilet paper in women’s washrooms. Need to remember women use it more so don’t stock the men’s so much. Probably won’t return to this resort. However by Cuba standards it is a 4 star.

Unforgettable Vacation!

We had a lovely vacation at Hotel Playa Paraiso for 2 weeks in February 2023. We would like to praise the staff for endless and exceptional service in the dining room, all bars and snack bar. Great time

Awesome time at the resort. Beautiful beach and water. You can go for long walk. Amazing food. Very close drive from the airport. Pretty decent pool. Great bars and people. Always super friendly. Fantastic Spanish coffee.

Resort was clean well maintained be nice to see some potatoes kicking around the buffet possibly some bacon entertainment not too bad little repetitive but rock band was great little loud could be turned down a bit

Oh boy, this one is tough

Playa Paraíso Beach: •AMAZING beach and water Serving Staff: •most servers fun, friendly, attentive, wanting to please. A small few not so much. Rooms: •run down, needing upgrade •bed comfy, but the odd spring beginning to make itself known •A/C and fridge work fine, plenty of hot water •Cleaned daily, (some maids do a better job than others) towels replaced when left on the floor •facecloths not provided, bring your own •toilet paper restocked no issue •r [... read more]oof over balcony leaked badly during rain Common areas: •cleaning staff works hard to keep clean, but the state of disrepair shows •guests generally seem happy and entertained Grounds: •gardens kept decently •concrete walking paths are deteriorated and collapsing in many places, trip hazards •garbage in the bushes. A garbage bag at our bungalow entrance was left there for 3 days •overall in half decent shape, but issues need to be addressed Food….oh boy: •very limited selection •repetitive •shortages of all kinds of food •omelet and grilled meat stations are very good, but always long waits •no pasta, ever in buffet •lettuces of any sort are scarce •virtually no vegetable choices •the only beans are a white bean in some sort of sauce, and lentils •breads were often only baked 1/2” from the outside, doughy inside •no salt or pepper •a la Carte restaurants were very good •the cold cuts are all processed (similar to bologna) •the ham is canned ham (like Swift or Maple Leaf Cooked Ham). It is not cured, smoked pork shoulder or loin •fruit selection: mango or pineapple. That’s it. There was some unripe watermelon the last day •NO orange juice Foods they ran out of and duration: •cheese (5 days) •pizza (never saw pizza at all) •coffee (one morning) •hot dogs (Sunday-Saturday, 6 days) •hard boiled eggs every day •chicken, very often •spaghetti at the Italiano Restaurant Beverages: •plenty of Havana Club Rum (dark, amber and white) •plenty of beer on tap (decent easy drinking beer) •wines were quite good, both red and white •Jaimeson and ClanCampbell whiskies •Beefeater Gin •vodka *they ran out of ALL of the above at one time or another, except for the rums…kinda like rolling blackouts. You never knew what to expect. In summary, was the trip horrible? No, but yes. The a la cartes we’re all good, but by day 4 it was hard to find something appealing to eat. And when my wife got violently ill from food poisoning, out both ends and in bed for 2 days (the beach buffet is suspected) we only ate fresh grilled food (ie: eggs, meats and rice). Our maid was so sweet while she was sick, going the extra mile in cleaning and “towel art”, picking flowers for her, etc…. But all of that considered, the beaches, the people and the general atmosphere there was good. Would I go back? Absolutely not, and likely never again to Cuba. But there was good about the trip, so I won’t take that away. I would have given this a 3* rating if not for the food poisoning incident. There was really no concern evident at all about COVID

No food, no supplies, no service

Cuba is not known for its food but the week we stayed at the resort there were no supplies and the cooks had to try to mix up whatever they could find. There were none of the standard items like hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, pasta, fries, cheese or nachos. There were things like meat ensalada, seafood ensalada and every banana combination they could come up with. We even ran out of eggs, bread, butter and ice at certain points of the trip. Be prepared for long long long line ups for food.

It was Ok, not my favorite

The grounds were beautiful, the pool nice and large, the beach amazing, rooms were decent, but mine had a musty smell. Water for the shower and toilet worked daily and had amazing pressure. Maids were friendly and social, some staff were very friendly and went out of their way to please , others were rude ( ie. a couple at front desk). Staff did not have name tags, so hard to give credit to those by name ... The buffet was so/so, lineups were very long for the grill, and getting water or a win [... read more]e order was hit and miss. The time the buffet opened in the morning was very late especially if you are an early riser...chairs were being saved around the pool and beach area before the sun came up, so finding a lounger had its challenges. No grill by the beach...disappointing...and very limited snack choices at the snack bar. Alcohol was limited to rum, beer white, or red wine...During the day many options to get a drink as there were a number of bars open...At night, usually, 1 bar is open, for all...became crowded and took a long time to get a drink ... Only received water in my room 4 times throughout the week... Really enjoyed the entertainment 3 of the nights, wish there was a bit more variety..i.e. Micheal Jackson show...lol A big shout out to our Sunwing representative Mabel...she was amazing in helping me to sort out a room issue and she answered all our questions and made us feel we could come to her with anything...

Ok resort but lack of food

Let’s start with the good the pool is great it’s very large and lots of chairs and shade. The beach is very nice but the first few feet going into the water has broken sea shell which is hard on the feet, recommend water shoes but water is very clear and nice blue and white sand. The à la carte restaurant are good Italien and Portugais was the best ones For the bad there is a lack of food and portions are very small. They ran out of hot dogs at the 24 hrs restaurant and only had ham and  [... read more]cheese and fries but again small portions and bring your salt they ran out Now for the room I booked a ocean view but got a tree view, after complaining at the lobby I showed them a picture of my view and asked them if it was an ocean view they laughed I told her it’s not funny I paid an extra $80 for ocean view, they offered me a different room but had 2 single beds, tv not working so I decided to keep my room. They had a nice tassimo coffee machine but they do not have coffee do I dont know why they do not remove the coffee machines in the room. They also do not supply any beer, pop in the rooms only 1 bottle of water Might want to bring some toilet paper they are also in shortage we needed to hunt down our cleaning lady to get additional toilet paper. The cleaning of the room is minimum, they do a nice job creating animals with towels. Overall good resort except for the shortage of food and housekeeping could fo a better cleaning like sweeping and moping the room and cleaning the toilet bowl
