It’s a little dated. Mini bar was never refilled. Coffee was never restocked. If we wanted refills, we had to go to the reception. Butler service is not worth it. We were supposed to get preferred reservations at the restaurants, but we initially got 8:30 pm. We had to negotiate for better times. Adults section was very small. Many times there was no peanut butter at the restaurant. Not really an adults only vibe.

Really Disappointing
The best thing I can say about the resort was the workers and staff were there to help you enjoy your vacation. The hideaway is tired and getting run down, our room was comfortable at best not at all 4+ star quality, 3 star at best. The a la carte restaurants are good, not great, unfortunately we never had a hot meal, my wife got food poisoning from one and I had a bad case of diarrhea. You need to line up for the a la cartes as they are first come first serve, they would not take reservations u[... read more]nless you had a diamond up grade, which was annoying. The buffet was good also not great, you usually had to wait in a line 10-15 minutes to get in on most nights. The beach was really nice not much shade, the resort booked so many people that they didnt have enough beach chairs for everyone. This wasn’t impressive when you’re paying good money for a supposed 5 star resort. The gym and spa are great, but other than that I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Wouldn't return
I stayed there in 2017 it's a very different resort now. We paid for diamond club and had 2 butlers. In 2017 the butlers took care of everything all reservations for the restaurant and activities. Premium liquors in the room and if you wanted more no problem. This time you were alloted 1 bottle and yes you could get more periodically. None of the hot tubs were hot this time as opposed to 2017. Seemed like this time it was all about the money and not the guest experience. As diamond club had to p[... read more]ay extra to go to restaurants for new years $100USD we ordered room service to our room. If it wasn't for the great service from the butler ahd the bar staff at the pool it would have been a 4 out of 10 .I would give it a 5.5 overall flight home was a disaster we were lucky to figure out where they changed the gate to 3rd time around with a 3 hour delay. Ended up on an old swoop plane no such thing as priority on this flight as everyone was herded on a bus and unloaded in front of the plane . Never fly sunwing again

3rd time in this resort
Still a nice resort, especially I caught it at a good price. Last time was a year ago in Dec/2022. Dorado is still our fav restaurant. Most aspects were pretty much the same, except our mini fridge wasn't replenished. I had to call everyday. Even after I complained at Hideaway guest services and was told it will for sure be filled everyday, it still wasn't. We gave up and just got bottles of water from the lounge to being back to our room. And there was a day when our room wasn't made up[... read more] at all and we'd have to call to have it serviced while we went for dinner. We've never had so much problem with mini fridge before, Hideaway or other resorts. That part was very disappointing. But we still enjoyed ourselves.

An Excellent Resort But..... Adults-only Diamond Review
Full disclosure, I had what may have been the nicest room at the resort if one was looking for beachfront, swim-up serenity. The room was large and comfortable. The view to the ocean was 10/10. The room was kept clean and stocked and the entertainment system was adequate (despite only working 2/3 of the time).
I was in 1105.
BUT! Despite being adults-only Diamond, you really need to access the entire resort, making only the time in your room really that elevated experience. 90% of servi[... read more]ces are in the large, family friendly and NOT serene part of the resort. Restaurant dining only had one option in the adults-only diamond club area (and it was excellent).
So this is not truly an adults-only diamond club experience, in case that's what you are used to at other high-end resorts.
Last point: the diamond club lounge in the adults-only is like a rec room, including very uncomfortable furniture, funky smell, a well stocked but awkward to use bar- not something I could see anyone wanting to use besides for check-in/out and problem-solving.
I would return if the price was right, and especially to room 1105.
I never did figure out how butler service was really very helpful at all.

O.K. Resort
The Hideaway section reasonably good. Only one restaurant. With diamond purchase, we had two butlers. Both very good. Lorena was exceptional Alfredo was reasonably good but did miss one reservation for dinner. The Royalton section very large & noisy. Most restaurant staff too busy to chat with customers. One outstanding server was a gentleman named Rene. He could not do enough for you.

Great Trip
I am an avid all inclusive traveler and have been to 15 resorts in the past 10 years. This trip was just for two people both of us in our early 30s not looking for a party resort, but also not looking for something boring. I would say this resort provided a great balance. If you’re elderly this is a larger resort lots of walking, however it’s 99% wheelchair accessible. Rooms were clean and well maintained, property was also clean and well maintained. Beautiful grounds and the resort rakes th[... read more]e seaweed off the beach every morning. The water was not crystal clear blue water, however a hurricane just came through those waters and I know it depends on time of year you travel, I saw others say the water wasn’t crystal clear though during reviews so if that matters to you, look elsewhere. Beach was gorgeous nonetheless. I saw tons of reviews from people mentioning mosquitos, I didn’t see a single one… in fact I didn’t see any bugs at all except for one bee the whole week. However what I think the problem is, is the sand fleas (can’t really see them) on the beach, the resort could spray for these and I assume they don’t or maybe it’s just elevated this time of year.. however for a 8 day vacation if the only complaint is bug bites then I think we’re good to go. Staff was friendly overall and helpful when you needed it, Alex by the pool was tremendous very courteous and on the ball with his service. The resort could work on playing more upbeat current music, as we kind of listened to the same music everyday by the pool and it was a little dated. The games / entertainment team could spruce up their games in addition to their prizes. They handed out tshirts, I’ve seen other resorts hand out bottles of champagne or small bottles of alcohol. The food was good, however Royalton does NOT let you book dinner reservations unless you’re a diamond club member (I’ve stayed at a few Royalton now and it’s a trend. The way it’s featured or advertised is as a positive, however it’s very hard to get in the actual restaurants for dinner unless you go at 5pm or 9pm or later as the resort prioritizes the diamond club members which sucks when you’re being told it’s an all inclusive. All paying guests should have an opportunity to eat in the restaurants and if they want to reward higher paying guests then there should be a exclusive bars or restaurants for them, but all other guests shouldn’t be deprioritized. However again, I’m looking for things to mention, non of this ruined our trip in any way. We ate at the Italian, steak and teppanyaki all were good but not as amazing as I have heard Mexican food to be, I’d say 7.5/10. However they were good. We did eat at the buffet rest of the week though because it had more options and easier to get what you want. Note: there is NO AC in the restaurants, the resort relays on sea breeze… which sometimes works and sometimes there is no breeze. The club on the resort has AC, but it could have been cranked way higher lol and same recommendation on better music lol. Overall, I would recommend this resort for someone my age looking to enjoy themselves but not get out of control. There is a splash pad area for kids away from the “party†pool (which is just more like games and drinks and music pool, not party), and there is a few quieter pools as well. Clean and fun resort, great vacation.

Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun
- Common area is big, airy, and lots of space: very good
- Entertainment=0:not good at all. Besides that, the show begins too late at 9:15PM, others place at 8:00 or 8:15PM
- Mini-bar is not filled at all, have to ask at bar in downstair for water.
- No salt & pepper on table, no spoon at soup, yaourt or ice cream place in buffet, have to ask for every meal.
- No paper napkins available for coffee, ice cream, donuts, or cake,... at all places in the hotel, even in the reception office.
- Foo[... read more]d is good in some restaurants in resort, but in the buffet place, food is not varied enough, almost the same every meals.

Couple getaway
Beautiful resort. Many restaurants, great food, many pools, beach was nice white sand with many covered loungers to choose from. There were 3 different bars on the beach to be served from. staff were great at all times. Hideaway section had some perks like more restaurants and an adults only pool. One pool section was under repair but it was slow time for them so understand the timing. We wish we had requested first floor because they had semi- private pool access from the room which is neat. Ou[... read more]r bed was a bit firm which caused me some back issues. The ocean was rough all week and the waves came into shore brown. So we preferred the poolside. Overall this was the best all-inclusive resort we have ever stayed at.

Hideaway at Royalton
Stayed at the hideaway section of the Royalton the first week of October 2023. Fantastic resort. Food was excellent with zero complaints. Room was very clean. Premium liquor on the hideaway section was a bonus. If you’re looking for a nice resort with fantastic amenities and no kids I would spend the extra cash and stay in the hideaway. I’ve seen complaints of no A/C in restaurants. Majority of restaurants DO have air conditioning, granted I was still quite warm but not warm enough to stop m[... read more]e from enjoying my meals. Weather was 40 degrees Celsius with 85-90% humidity if you’re not expecting to feel warm stay home. The staff at this resort is top notch, always greeted with a smile and they always went above and beyond for us. If you’re interested in music and fun activities the pool is the spot to be. If you want a more quiet and peaceful time the beach was beautiful and very enjoyable. A very nice mix of restaurants which were all good and the buffet can fill any craving. Overall my experience was great from start to finish. Don’t let some of these reviews with the most specific complaints deter you from staying at this wonderful resort. (Also yes you have access to the entire resort if you stay in the hideaway section)

Definitely not 5 star hotel
First off, this is the second Royalton hotel we’ve stay in and we know the quality that Royalton offers. Unfortunately, this hotel fell short of that expectation.
The workers are friendly, servers are great! The issue is the hotel smells like sewage in a lot of sections. The furniture and doors of the rooms have water damage from so much cleaning. The smell of mould hits you when you walk into the room. The buffet could improve specially on Mexican night.
Caribbean restaurant and sports bar [... read more]didn’t have AC so you’re sweating your face off!
On a good note the beach was amazing the week that we were there Sept 22-29/23

Fun trip!
I read a lot of mixed reviews and overall the resort is really nice. I found our room spacious and clean, but we did pay extra for a better view. Our friends view over the ravine was not as great.
The staff was great, I didn’t experience anyone who wasn’t pleasant and friendly. They we’re all amazing
This resort is not a true “adults only†there is one portion of the result (the hideaway) that is adults only and it only has only one restaurant there. You have to venture to [... read more]the other areas to eat at the buffet and the other restaurants which are all kid/tween shared areas. The food overall was really tasty though!
The beach the week we went was not as bad as I have read it can be. But if you are a beach person it may not be the best choice as it is not a guarantee. You can see the seaweed coming in and see on parts of the beach how bad it can get, which is unfortunate.
The main pools were always busy and lively which is great if you are looking for a party and if you are not there are other pool areas that are less busy. With multiple bars available and staff who walk around taking drink orders.

Overall ok
The hotel it self is nice. Do not get a mangrove facing room if you want to enjoy you balcony, the smell is not nice. Beds are super comfy. Buffett has been one of the best we have had. Drinks are premium. Beach is nice but had a lot of seaweed. If you’re a beach person like me it’s not the beach for you. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The staff were incredible and friendly.

Great resort!
The Hideaway at Royalton was an amazing resort! The food was delicious and staff members were very professional and friendly. The resort was always very clean and our room service was excellent. The nightly entertainment exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed the fact that there was a “party†pool and another “quiet†pool if you wanted to relax. The beach was also lovely and we were always able to get beach chairs. We only found it difficult to find beach towels somedays, as there was a sp[... read more]ecific staff member walking around with a bag of towels, but sometimes could not be found. Fantastic resort, highly recommend!

Hideaway vacation royalton riveria cancun
We returned Feb. 8th from the hideaway. This has been our fifth time to Mexico as well as 15 times to Cuba. I look for value in my vacations I thought i received what i paid for. I had researched my trip before we went reading the good bad and ugly. It was not bad like a lot of reviews in my opinion.
The alcohol was good they had canned beer you can ask for extra in your fridge pen and paper on night stand. We were not DC my wife asked for vodka and was given choice of five kinds including grey[... read more] goose. At first thought my dark rum was off or watered down but does taste different with pepsi.
The food was good we went to ZEN we went in afternoon and booked on a cloudy day great show and food. We went to HUNTERS we did have to come back an hour later to get in. We to Dorado and Italian no wait at either sports bar twice no wait and dinner on beach on Wednesday night with no reservation.
The towel game not as bad as expected lots of chairs on beach and yes was seaweed as expected. The pool does get crowded by 9am chairs are gone. The lady will give you towels and take your room number. They do run out of towels but some people ask for 5 or 6 towels for two people.
The bartenders are great work very hard when its busy. Sometimes you have to wait takes time to make blender drinks and all those shooters. There is wait staff around the pool and at beach I did not feel i had to tip but i did.
Our room was what we expected we did pay the room selection fee for Building one facing the pool. We could see in the morning when chairs were being taken we did not want to face the mangroves. We could hear a couple shows from our room.
We did not have to deal with the front desk with and problems. We also did the couples massage with the hydotherapy was a good experience and my wife said good price.
So yes i would go back again for the right price and I would book diamond club if I found a really good price otherwise we were fine without. I think some people want the high end resort perks for what you pay here

Good escape from Toronto
We overall had a really good time, but want to highlight some areas below that prevented this from being 5/5.
The beach was unfortunately seaweedy and not clear as advertised. We thought we booked the swim out pool but got a garden view of smelly swamps instead.
There were many kids running around the resort, especially in restaurants despite us thinking we booked an adult only experience at the Hideaway as advertised. Liqour offered was not premium as advertised.
Food was great, service wa[... read more]s great, and weather was great. Resort design and size was also very upscale. For us the beach, food & service will make or break the experience. We had hoped to get all three considering we spent 2.3k per person.

Will not go back
Would not recommend this resort if you want to relax. The constant LOUD music was horrible. It was so loud we had to shout at each other to hear ourselves.
The food was great, as was the service but the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. A very big resort with line ups for the ala carts so the only availability was for 9:30 pm and afterwards.
