Loved this resort!

Beautiful grounds, clean new buildings, excellent facilities, excellent service. Very comfortable and top notch service from the staff. Everyone was very friendly. Loved the relaxing atmosphere and the vibe. Clean, beautiful gardens and wildlife right on the grounds. Beautiful beach and the nicest pools I have ever been in. Nature and zen.

Nice Resort

Overall a good experience. Staff are excellent. Dinner restaurants are very good. Buffet breakfast has many options but would be considered average. Ocean has a little disappointment with a few rocks and heavy seaweed daily. That said they are active every day keeping it clean. Based on the beach I would have to score it a 4.5 out of 5.

Everything You'd Want in a Resort

Secrets Akumal turned out to be as good as the reviews said; from facilities, to food, to service, to beach and ocean's water, to entertainment, were five star! We were an older couple (67) who prefer the more tranquil get-away-from-winter resorts and we were more than pleased to spend the week in the sun and fun of Secrets Akumal We will definitely return! A big thank you to all the hard working staff who made our stay a pleasure.

Beautiful Resort

This hotel is beautiful in every way from the spacious rooms, very comfortable beds with soft sheets, large balconies, beautiful beach which you can snorkel directly from, beautiful tropical grounds and delicious food. Two things wrong: public beach directly in front of the resort which opens it up to all sorts of people including screaming kids and crying babies, something you don't want when you go to an Adults Only resort. Some days it was quiet, but we were surprised to hear kids on the beach and that's when we found out it was public. Hotel has no control over that. The most amazing part was the ability to snorkel right off the beach, you would walk in to stunning coral reefs and very pretty fish and of course the sea turtles and stingrays. There were many. As well, we didn't appreciate the large corporate groups - gangs of people hanging around together in large groups being extremely noisy and obnoxious. It turned us off as we are a couple looking for quiet. We ate in restaurants and had to listen to these noisy people all the time. It was not pleasant except for the days we ate outside the restaurants. We didn't mind doing that if there were spots to eat outside. If you are young, a pool person, and like to party, you will love this place. It's perfect for you.

Amazing resort

I can't think of anything negative about this resort. I had seen all the positive reviews, but it exceeded our expectations. All the staff without exception were courteous, friendly and treated us like royalty.. the grounds were beautiful, clean well taken care of. The restaurants and food around the resort was exceptional and such a variety. If you want perfection, I would certainly recommend this resort.

Beautiful resort

The resort is beautiful, different from all the others that we had been in so far. The decor in the room is very chic, the grounds are well kept and an interesting mix of landscaped gardens and natural jungle like environment. It's obviously getting busy and they don't do much to speed up but are rather slow . We spent more than two hours in the French restaurant one evening. They do their best to accommodate you if you ask or complain and I was happy with the service.

Quiet stay

we just got back from our restful holiday at Akumal Secrets. we could not say enough about this resort. the best beaches for snorkelling, saw; turtles,stingray, many small fish and not far off shore. the reef was so nice therefore no waves even on a windy day. the down part of this lovely beach is that it is public so there were snorkel tours from 9 a.m till 5 p.m and they sat right on the beach in front of you all day...with kids. the rooms were very nicely made up, jaccuzi large shower, toilet [... read more] room was interesting...no privacy...not sound proof if that bothers you!!! we had a swim up so very nice at the end of the day to just float outside your room. food was very good, no need for reservations except as the Asian one where they cook in front of you, even when we went into the Asian restaurant to just eat off the menu they offered us a place at the entertainment table because it was not full. speaking of which...the resort was VERY quiet, pools empty, restaurants empty,rooms empty...we could nor figure this out, maybe recession maybe the price. Because the resort is definitely a 5 star. I would highly recommend this place, very friendly staff. Just don't get sucked into their time share at check in. just say no....the coupon book isn't even worth the pitch. the resort is also over an hour from the airport but in the day its nice to see the landscape.

Breathtaking Resort!

From the moment you step out of your travel vehicle there is this amaing theraputic scent that greets you as you walk up to the lobby to check in. The view out to the ocean from the lobby is filled with beautiful pools, lush vegetation and tasteful decorations. The staff was courteous and flexible with the our room choice. We were accompanied to our room with our luggage and our first impression was WOW! Comfortable, clean, and luxurious. There are ample choices for restaurants and I could not pick a favorite as they were all delicious!! The entertainment staff were friendly and talented. The shows were modern and amazing. We spent our nights playing cards in the rendezvous lounge on the comfortable swing sofas. We absolutely loved our experiences and time at the Secrets. We would go back again and would suggest the same to friends and family.

Incredible Resort

This resort was one of the best places we have traveled too. The service was a 5 star all the way. The staff is super friendly, the rooms are clean and spacious. The entertainment was excellent with some nights offering vegas style shows. The beach was one of the nicest beaches I have seen, plus you can swim with the turtles right at the beach. Simply amazing

Been to many resorts along the Riviera Maya area such as Secrets Silversands, Excellence Riviera, Royal Playa Del Carmen and Paradisus La Perla Royal Service but Secrets Akumal wins hands down. The resort is brand new and the layout and landscaping is beautiful, but the best part is the beach with no sea weeds. The sand is soft, white and water is very clear where we went snorkeling and for the first time saw turtles. The bay is protected by the reefs and the ocean is very calm. The beach is pre [... read more]tty long about 2 kilometers so that you can have a nice walk in the morning with a nice sunrise view. The rooms were well decorated with a round hot tub and wall mounted flat tv. All of the restaurants were top notch.

Quiet Resort for Mature Couples

Air Canada lost my luggage for 4 days with no explanation and very poor customer service. In fact, they have termed their telephone reps as "customer relations". That says it all. It obviously tainted my holiday. The hotel is beautiful. Hotel employees are polite and amiable. The food at the a la cartel restaurants was very good - better than majority of resorts although you will wait for a table if you dine after 7 pm.
