Great Vacation at Gran Marena Cayo Coco

We have been to the family side of this resort twice before when it was called the Pullman. This time we upgraded to the Sunset Adult Only side. The resort is only 15 minutes from the airport which is a huge plus for us. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were met by a concierge who was holding a sign with our names on it. He (Falcon), walked us to the Sunset lobby where he checked us in and told us about that section of the resort. Our room was on the second floor as requested and we had a (distan [... read more]t) view of the ocean. Our room was large and clean and everything worked. Beach towels were in the room and the bathroom was well-supplied. The bath towels were replaced every day. The mini fridge was stocked with water and beer. The pool area was beautiful with lots of loungers and bali beds with big roofs for shade. There is a pool bar and a beach bar. The beach is huge, clean and beautiful. They have recently built many new palapas on the beach so there is plenty of shade. There is no need to get up early to save chair at the beach. The beach is raked and cleaned every morning by a couple of hard working men. The food and drinks were great and plentiful. We ate at the Gourmet restaurant frequently and the food was always great. We did not notice and shortages of food or alcohol during our stay. We brought our own instant coffee and heated water in the coffee maker in the morning, but the pool bar is open for early morning coffee. We indulged in a couples massage at the Spa and would highly recommend this. All the staff in this section were amazing. Very professional and happy to help us with anything we required. The adult only side of the resort is very quiet and relaxing and the guests were mainly older people. It is not a party area of the hotel. It was not at capacity when we were there at the beginning of March as they are renovating many rooms. We look forward to returning to the resort and in particular, the adult only section in the future.

Shame

This resort opened in 2016,we stayed there in 2018, and it was very good. Just came back back from there and in only 8 years resort has become a 3 star at best. Flooding of ground floor rooms, no water for two days so no flush of toilets or shower water. Not to mention almost total lack of hot water. Food was ok at buffets , you won't starve. A la carte restaurants were mediocre. Tile work around pool has become dangerous in and around pools. Beach and ocean are outstanding, no fighting  [... read more]for shade at the beach plenty of palapas. Some days no beer or rum. No fancy drinks. Lots of vodka though. Shame that only after being built 8 years ago that it has gone down hill so rapidly. However, staff are terrific in all areas from maids to bartenders all were happy to help in any way and ultra courteous. They're doing they're best with what they are given. Sorry but will definitely not return.

Amazing Time

We stayed at Gran Marena Collections for 2 weeks Feb 7-21. We didn’t have high expectations due to all the reviews about Cuba. Well Collections exceeded everything! The room was perfect-always had hot water, a real king size bed and a perfect view. The adults only pool was very relaxing, the only suggestion would be more cabanas. Food was amazing at the Gourmet restaurant for all 3 meals. The a la carts were all really good especially Italian and Cuban. Never again

It’s very old. We were on ground floor which was flooded with sewage water in the hallway & bathrooms. We had a difficult time to move upstairs. There was no hot water at all. The ala cart reservations sucked they book it for you & you cannot change unless you pay the guy. We only had the chance to use it once because they were full. This hotel should be de listed from the all sites.

In need of some serious maintenance

Having been to the resort previously, we thought it would be a safe bet to go back. unfortunately we were wrong. Upon arrival at the hotel, the room was not made up, toilet was filthy, no bath towels and no toilet paper. Other buildings had no hot water, no electricity. Daily shortages of some alcohol - Gin and rum...yes rum which the country manufactures! I went to the gift shop and bought my own to use!! There was Gin on the shelf, but was told by bar staff and management that they were  [... read more]not allowed to use it - even if we paid extra for it! On the good side, the beach is beautiful and the beach side bars were stocked and very happy to serve us. The food was good and serving staff were wonderful. The snack bar staff were miserable and not friendly at all.

Amazing Resort

We had a wonderful time at the Gran Marena. The rooms were spotless, the beds were comfortable. The meals, whether at the buffet or a la cart were tasty. Food was plentiful and there was sufficient variety. The beach was amazing and the pools refreshing.

Better than expected

The resort was more than expected . Koodo's to all the staff that work here. The room was clean ,the grounds were clean every day. The buffet was clean and we had most everything every day. The service was so very good every day. A big shout out to the 2 girls that we had most everyday they were the best. I must apologize I did not get there names but they are # 1 Waitress, hands down. The people in Cuba do a very good job and are so friendly. They did run out of some drinks but over all very good . There are many pools to chose from. The beach was very good for a long walk every day. I must say if you like Cuba this is the best place to stay!!!!!!! you will not be disappointed . Just not in January it's a bit cool and windy, for me.... there were some warm days as well but ..... I would return and recommend the hotel to everyone.

Had a great time!

The Gran Marena Cayo Coco was fantastic! Although there are repairs needed to certain parts of the resort, this didn't stop us from having a great time. The food was much better than I had anticipated and I had been to this resort previously. The staff are the best and will help you any way they can. We had an issue with the shower in our room and I think the solution would be to install a new shower head. Customer Service was notified and came to inspect. They wanted us to go to a new room [... read more] but we refused because we only had one more night to stay. Restaurants were great and the bartending staff do a great job. The weather was fantastic so that also was a bonus. Yes, there are shortages but nothing to serious that it would ruin your vacation.

Loved Gran Marena Cayo Coco

I visited this resort for 3 days joining my family that were there for 1 week. I will categorize so that everyone can get an idea on what to expect when visiting. LOCATION: 15 mins from the airport FOOD: As expected there are shortages of some items but you will not go hungry. The usual eggs, fruit, cold cuts, cheeses for breakfast. I saw no bacon. For lunch and dinner, pasta, pork, beef, chicken, fish, rices. The beach bbq would serve hamburgers, chicken and pork depending on day with salad  [... read more]and rice. The snack bar by the pool although I didn't visit it had pizzas, sometimes fries but no ketchup. Suggest you take some with you if you want it. There are 3 a la carte restaurants but the resort will make the reservations for you Im guessing so that everyone gets a chance to dine at them. ROOMS: My room had 2 double beds. My family had connecting rooms 1 with king bed and the other 2 double beds. They are big, very clean. No issues except after 4pm water is jot very hot but water pressure us amazing. SERVICE: Just amazing. They are friendly. Always smiling and willing to help. Please remember that their salary a month is equal to $18 Canadian dollars. Please tip when they serve you. They rely on those tips. Also if you have older clothes that you no longer need or wear, take them with you and give them out. They will appreciate you ten fold. GROUNDS: The resort is fairly big with various buildings of 3 floors. No elevators. The lobby is above the rest of resort and at this time the elevator is out of service for repair. So only stairs available to access it. Be mindful if you have any disabilities. The grounds are kept immaculate constantly. Staff is always cleaning. You will not see anything on the ground, not even cigarette butts. BEACH: Fantastic, amazing. White sand, clear blue water. They clean beach everyday of seaweed. There are always beach chairs available. GENERAL: The mosquitos were rampant at this time of year. Make sure you take bug spray in case. I loved my stay at this resort and so did my family. Will definitely be returning and would recommend it to any of my friends.

Needs maintenance and renovation

Hotel is good, but it needs renovation urgently. The rooms need maintenance, there are broken doors, mirrors, metal parts with rust, holes in the walls, etc. The cleaning of rooms is ok but in the buildings is not, you can find dust, paper, glasses on the stairs and hallways. The elevator situation is frustrating, more if you travel with small kids. The food is good, we didn't miss anything during our trip. The snack bar service is not good, prepare yourself to wait for more than 20 minutes to r [... read more]eceive a sandwich or pizza. The snacks are good but it takes so long. Drinks are ok, however if you don't request an specific brand of alcohol they will give you the lowest quality type they have. They also exhibit high quality bottles but you have to pay extra for them. I have been 3 times before in Cuba and I noticed the service here is not as good, waiters and bartenders do the bare minimum and if you ask for something they don't seem to like it. In general terms the hotel is good but it needs maintenance and renovations.

Good resort

The grounds and property was looked after. The 2 Grills by the beach were great except for the fact they only did the same fish and chicken. It was boring after your second visit. Ala Cartesian were good. Buffet was good and could again use some variety. It's funny next to the Lobby bar the TV reflects on what Pullman offers. It only offers 60% of what is advertised.

Great experience overall

Pros: 1. Food: I managed my expectations but was impressed with the variety of dishes that were offered. I enjoyed the local foods such as fish, guava, papaya, smoothies with local fruits. For dessert: I loved the white jello-like squares which paired up amazlingly with ice-cream. 2. Pools: very clean and large pools 3. Beach: lovely, white beaches; the water was warm and inviting. Perfect temperature 4. Boat house: because it was windy everyday, we were not able to enjoy the hobbie cat (wh [... read more]ich we really wanted to) except ....for the last day of our stay. The boat house staff were very understanding and accomodated us to enjoy the hobbie cat rides before we packed up to check out. Way to go! 5. Entertainment: good quality and variety of shows both during the day and in the evening. 6. Room: very spacious and clean. Cons: 1. Water supply: for 1st 3 days: the water was not warm enough for a nice shower. 2. Water supply: on the 4 day: there was no water supply between 1pm to 10pm... that was not a pleasant experience. 3. Room: the hair dryer can't run continuously on MAX setting; in spite of multiple requests to review this, nothing was done AND there was no feedback from the hotel staff. Overall, we had a very nice stay but would likely try another hotel when we go back to Cuba just because of the 'water cut' experience.

Needs lots of maintenance

This resort has a great beach and swimming pools but needs an enormous amount of maintenance and care. To start with our check in took forever (more than 1hr) by very unfriendly reception staff,he would not accommodate me in a close room as I am a senior and didn’t seem to be understanding or listening, I had to carry my luggage as I arrived at night and the resort elevator was not working for the entire 7 days. Food at the buffet was less than average but the worst was the LONG lines to get  [... read more]in for the food that you can eat, meat is so thick and unchewable, what was not acceptable was the cockroaches and flies that I saw make you sick and not be interested in eating.Internet connection is a disaster and cuts off . Always needed to go to reception to get more time. Rooms are smelly and I saw a cockroach in it. I found that the staff at the reception and the snack bar were very rude and unfriendly unlike the guy at the beech bar on the right side of the beach and the cappouchino lady. The door key repeatedly didn’t work and needed to be recharged. If you want to go there bear in mind that the beach and the pool are the best thing you can enjoy. If I followed the many negative reviews for that resort I wouldn’t have gone there.

Cayo Coco Pullman

Grounds are nice but trees are not matured still small not that much shading areas and very dry.Service is okay unless you tip them well. Food in the Buffet is not bad but you have to get there when it opens or there won't be much variety left . Beach and pools are great. Overall I had a great time with my family under the circumstances. Hopefully things improve with food supply in Cuba.

This is not a five stars hotel,

This hotel is not friendly for people using a walker or wheelchair like my wife, . There is no elevator in the lobby but a lot of stairs One of the front desk staff refused to help my wife to take down her walker. I strongly complained and the following day she had the same problem. An unknown guest showed compassion and she helped her to take down the walker, The hotel needs an elevator plus front desk staff willing to help.

It was great except food:)

Everything was fantastic. We got ocean vew room gorgeous, clean, new matress. Thank you for that. Everything was great except food and restaurant where we eat. Food was not great unfortunately, a lot of flies and cacrocheas especially at dinner time. Sanitation is an issue and they do nothing about it unfortunately. Everything else was great including beach. Thank you tripcentral. This is second time booking with you and we got ocean vew and very close to the beach. Beautiful.

Pullman Cayo Coco

This resort was ok. But it needs lots of renovations. The rooms were good. Our cleaner was wonderful, kept our place very clean. Food was ok, as expected being in Cuba. All the Cuban staff were wonderful. They do their very best. Drinks need improvement. The beach was excellent also the pools. The Cuban people are the best. Next time we go to Cuba it won't be during rainy season. So many mosquitoes and flies.

Roaches everywhere!!

Although we enjoyed our family vacation because we can enjoy ourself anywhere when we are together , I wouldn't recommend this resort at all . We picked it because the reviews were all positive and they are baby friendly. Our first night getting there , we got raided with mosquito bites! The stewardess decided not to give us a visa so we had to wait for the whole plane to go through while my 8 month old was being covered with a blanket as to not get him full of bites . We went to the snack bar to get a snack and drink after a long flight and the man working behind the bar did not crack smile nor did he acknowledge our presences. By the second night I felt so uncomfortable to go get a drink because the worker were all miserable and expected a tip for horrible service . Even when you'd give them 5 canadian dollars for pouring a flat beer ,they'd treat you like shit . While we would be eating the servers would come up to the table put the change down ,count it and then ask if you would change it to a bill, one of them even brought a napkin so we could clean our hands . Not to mention they have ROACHES in every restaurant on the resort. I don't 1understand how in no reviews did it mention the roaches , it was absolutely disgusting. I can count on 1 hand who was nice and welcoming from the staff . Overall if you want to be sick from old roaches infested food and treated like dirt then I'd strongly recommend this resort . If not I'd say stick to Varadero ,maybe you'd have better chance of being treated like a paying customer.

Terrible

To be honestly it’s hard for a person who work many years in resort in cuba write terrible comments about the comercialización of hotel in my country.people at the hotel amazing, beach out of mosquito amazing, food terrible ,hygiene terrible, rooms terrible, ,it’s impossible to thinking cuba still comercialicen a 5 star hotel with no one star sorry and I have more to say 2266066706 or by mail

Pullman Cayo Coco subpar resort

The beach was AMAZING! But the service at Pullman was non-existent, they would not have their servers serve any drinks to the guests in the lobby. You'd always have to get up to the bar and get a drink. Many employees would straight up say no if you asked for a certain drink, or say they no longer have it in stock. But when we'd go to the bar ourselves they'd have that drink in stock. So the service was very poor at this resort, we were not able to get beach towels for the first 3 days of our st [... read more]ay. There were a few days when they turned off the water in the entire resort for a few hours, which was very inconvenient when you don't have working toilets in the hotel room. Food was subpar as well, we didn't starve but I've experienced better food at different Cuba resorts. There are better resorts elsewhere within Cuba, I do not recommend this one.
