We will be back!

This is not our first time at the Barcelo. The restaurants, buffets, gorgeous grounds, pools, rooms, and activities are all spectacular but the biggest reason we keep coming back is the staff. The Barcelo staff are top notch and, with a smile on their faces, go out of their way to ensure every guest has a fantastic vacation. With help from Maru Navarro, in the Premium Lounge, our vacation started long before we ever arrived. She was so wonderful and helpful, and went out of her way to ensure our [... read more] stay was perfect. We were hoping to see her when we arrived, but she was off for the evening. Leo her colleague took amazing care of us, so we had no worries. We also were able to stop in later to see Maru and thank her. So a big thank you to Maru and Leo! We will always come back to see you both! Other staff I'd like to highlight are Antonio from the French restaurant, he was so great, and helpful and did a birthday surprise cake for our friend. Maria Chan at the AO pool was always smiling, and happy, and had us all laughing. What a gem she is, Barcelo! We wanted to sit in her section all week. Deysi and Bredy from Rodizio were exceptional servers, and so efficient and kind. Norma and Jazmine from the AO bar were both amazing. We knew Jazmine from other years, and love to sit in her section. One night we wanted to sit out under the stars and that's when we met Norma and she took amazing care of us. Even when we weren't in Jazmine or Norma's section they still checked in with us to see if our vacation was going well and if we needed anything. Barcelo is lucky to have such caring staff. A big thank you to Sandra Villegas, Premium lounge, who took exceptional care in making us specialty coffees with latte art each morning. We loved them. Also thank you to the terrific team of, Lorenzo and Cristan in the Premium lounge, who helped us with our meals. To the staff at Barcelo, thank you again for make our stay a memorable one!

The most beautiful resort

The room was super clean, very modern. The view from our balcony was spectacular, great view of the ocean. All the restaurants were good. Bars and drinks were all top end.We will definitely will be going back again!!

Not a 5 star

Hotel and room was absolutely beautiful, food was a hit or miss. Had to make reservations for restaurants sometimes long wait as multiple people were also there, you could leave and come back but same situation. Beach was awful rocky and not just near the water sand itself is not soft but rocky need beach shoes or sandals always. Would not return as overall experience was not what I expected

Disappointed with resort since Opening

Didn’t have a double room as booked - took until next day around 5:00 pm to get double room - given accessibility room with no closet doors, large seat blocking shower, no toilet privacy door and large handicap rails in bathroom. Nowhere to hang large towels, no smaller towels supplied, had to ask housekeeping each time. Buffet area on many days did not have lettuce for salad, and many other items not available. Food stations, most food lukewarm and mostly Mexican food, not too much variation [... read more] in others. Housekeeping didn’t show up on three days, sometimes around 5:00 pm. Specialty restaurants very good except for the Toco bar, absolutely no personality and food not good. Ended up sick…We were at the Riviera Mya Adult when it first opened Dec.2019-2020 and it was much better all around. Even the Guest services and some of the front Desk personnel were miserable. We were not able to book specialty restaurants for our second week except for times for 5:00 pm or after 10:00 pm. I would not give them a 5 star rating this time, probably a 2 star. Will try to book somewhere else next time..Very Disappointing.

We LOVED it!

We have been to the Barcelo numerous times and this was our second time at the Adult Only section. Before we even left home, we spoke with Emilio Gomez, social media manager, who took amazing care of us before we even arrived and made sure our stay was incredible and memorial. Thank you Emilio. Check in and check out with Maru Navarro at the Premium level was so smooth. She went above and beyond for us. She was so helpful booking our restaurants, and always had a big smile for us. We ate at all  [... read more]four AO restaurants, the Japanese in the Mall, and all three restaurants at the Palace. They were all amazing and the Taco bar at the AO was so much fun. A huge shout out and thanks to Jesus Lopez who made us amazing Mayan coffee at the Rodizio. He and Gilberto Gonzalez took great care of us. Jesus Gonzalez at the Caribe was amazing and attentive. At the breakfast and lunch buffet at the AO, Jose Miranda was everywhere, taking care of everyone! He never stopped moving or helping! Reyi Campos and Marcos at the Brasserie were great, too. I was absolutely THRILLED to have Jazmine serving us again in the evenings at the AO outdoor lounge at night. She looked at me and remembered me from the last time we were there. She is the BEST! So was Miriam Cordova. They were both hard workers and great servers and always had a smile. Gorgeous rooms, beaches, pools, food and amazing staff. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Beautiful Resort

Everything at Barcelo Maya Riviera was beautiful! The service was amazing and the food was delicious. The pools were amazing and the beach was beautiful….lots of palm trees….no bugs or birds except for pelicans and other ocean birds flying over the ocean

Amazing Time! Beautiful and Clean

My fiance and I had a wonderful time at Barcelo Maya Riviera. PROS: 1. Cleanliness: This resort was spotless and it was obvious how much care and effort went in to keeping it clean. Bathrooms, pools, and public areas were cleaned very often and room service was available to come daily. Was very impressed. 2. Food: The restaurants on site were amazing for dinner, offering your choice of 4 course meals or buffet style in most cases. During the day, we ate breakfast and lunch at the buffett, which was excellent; huge with tons of variety and options. You'll need to make reservations in advance for dinner FYI. 3. Staff: Staff were excellent, professional, and very attentive to our needs. Very wonderful people. CONS: 1. Noise We were fortunate that we were in a room far away from the Lobby bar, as it can get pretty noisy with music until midnight. The hotel is also so large with no sound absorbers on the walls or ground that sound echos in the hallways. I heard fellow guests complaining of the noise level at night, luckily, we were barely affected being near the oceanview suites.

Nice vacation at Barcelo Maya Riviera Resort

Beautiful,clean,modern,huge buffet,polite and very hard working servers. The negative: dinner reservations very limited and took an hour to book when restaurant only half full!?! ,distance from airport, very late entertainment and no entertainment showed up on New Years! Resort had many young couples, Spanish speaking European tourists which games at bar were geared to. Snorkelling on site but better at Palace. Need to do own research of amenities at other 5 Barcelo.

Amaizing resort!

It was our second visit to this resort. It actually looks more as luxury hotel then resort. Very neat, clean and tidy! All organized well with no issues. All concerns should they occur may be addressed promptly. Service was impeccable. Food variety was plenty. Restaurant booking was easy, and food was amazing! Good quality strong drinks, decent cocktails. Definitely, will be back again.

For the $$ can't be beat!

If clean is your thing than this is the one for you! Beach is very nice with a gorgeous view however you'll need water shoes as there is coral here and there...pools are fabulous & both swim up bars. One with music the other without & nicely spaced between the two. Service everywhere was excellent except at the front desk. Everything was incredible and cooked to your liking. Favs were steakhouse, Mexican & Japanese but all were as said AAA even the buffet! Value...I've personally paid twice if not more at Bahia, Secrets adults only etc. to get similar if not less than what was offered here. Location...I only give this a 4 star as the location is over an hour away from the airport and 30 min to Play Del Carmen.

Great 2nd Stay!

We traveled with a group of seven and our stay was fantastic. Check-in was smooth and we were able to get our rooms close together. The majority of our time was spent around the massive pool and we preferred the "Pool Bar" area rather than the "Music Bar" area. Staff throughout the resort were very friendly. Language can sometimes be a barrier, but the staff worked together to get what you need. Beach area is very spacious and the ability to travel to the neighboring resorts within the Barcelo family was a bonus.

Beautiful resort!

The rooms are gorgeous and modern. Huge king bed, bathroom is nicely equipped with separate water chamber. Huge shower with rain head. The food is amazing. Excellent service. A great resort with beautiful beach and pools. Lots of chairs to lounge on. The entertainment was a bit weak. And too loud. If you don’t want to be up late, don’t have a room by the lobby. We went to the other sister resorts for their entertainment. Nice but noisy

The resort is very clean, food is good, drinks are good. However the evening entertainment started too late and was very noisy. The music started close to 11pm at night in the lobby and it was impossible to sleep because it was extremely loud. We had to complain to the front desk 4 times before they moved us and even after they did it was still not quiet and still couldn’t sleep. I would never return because of this.

Beautiful Resort

The hotel was very clean, staff was attentive and there were lots of activities. The food buffet was great and the restaurants on the grounds were delicious. We would definitely go back with family and friends again.

Resort is GREAT - bit of a problem with late night noise

This is an absolutely fabulous facility. The staff is exceptional. Everyone is extremely helpful. The bars and drinks are top notch and you can get pretty much anything you want and it's always served with a smile. The buffet is out of this world good with a huge variety. You could eat there every meal if you wanted. That said - the a la carte restaurants (we ate at most of them as we stayed for 11 days) are some of the best we've been to. A bit of an issue with booking them though as we  [... read more]only booked 4 when we got there and had trouble booking the rest as they were booked. Had to use the buffet a few nights but again... the food there is great. The beach and pools are absolutely stunning too! Unfortunately, our Ocean View room was just up from the nightly music entertainment (10:30 pm to midnight) and they blasted the music extremely loudly. Pretty much didn't get to sleep before midnight any night. Also, one night, some "guest" brought a boom-box and they partied in that area (drunk dhouting, yelling, whistling until 3:45 am) - not a great sleep that night. One small issue that relates to Air Transat and not the hotel. We met our rep on the scheduled morning and he was okay - a bit rushed. He offered a free tour of Playa del Carmen but since we were travelling with another couple, we didn't sign up right away. He was almost impossible to find after that initial pre-scheduled meeting. We visited the desk 2 or 3 times a day for the next three days and he was never around and no one knew when he was going to be there. Finally, someone in guest services located his schedule but he was a no show for his scheduled time. Finally, guest services tracked him down at one of the other resorts and we booked the tour. PS: I wouldn't recommend the free tour to the jewelery place and tequila place and 2 hrs in Playa del Carmen. It turned out to be a full day of high presure sales with half of it just waiting around for the bus. If you want to go to the city - I'd recommend just taking a taxi. Luckily we had 11 days but if it was a 7 day vacation, wasting a full day for a 2 hour walk in the city would have been pretty bad.

Great resort!

Excellent stay of 11 nights. Food was fantastic. Extra cleaning was obvious. Beach /pool activities with Erik, Melissa, Wendy, Elizabeth & Arely we’re especially good. Treated you like friends and we’re genuine about your having a good time. Really looked like they enjoyed their job which made our stay even better. Weather was fantastic which always helps!

Our Favourite Resort

Stayed 2 weeks at Barcelo Riveria and the oceanfront rooms are modern, clean and spacious. The balcony is perfect for the view and to sit and enjoy breakfast from room service. The infinity pool is amazing roomy and refreshing. Lots of pergolas and chairs poolside and beach side. Always a nice breeze too. The al acartes convenient with varied menu items to please everyone. Barcelo Maya Riviera - Mexico

Barcelo Maya Riviera I hesitate to write a review as I don’t want this gem of a resort to be widely known (for purely selfish reasons). My daughter and I stayed at the resort from May 17 to 27, 2022. This was our second time at the Barcelo resort in Mexico, first visit was years ago. The Maya Rivera Adults only was AMAZING!!!! I can’t say enough good things about our stay. Thanks to management for hooking us up with the best ocean front view - wow! Pools are incredible, beach was clean and seating plentiful with shady spots. Drinks were yum with minimal line ups. The al a chart restaurants were terrific, our favourites were Japanese, Italian, and French - but really all the restaurant were 5 star. Loved the Fitness and Wellness (gym) facilities too. This is the place to be people!!! The service (wait staff, management, premium staff, housekeeping, and bartenders are top notch and so friendly. I will definitely go back without hesitation - and already thinking of booking again soon. Thank you Barcelo Maya Rivera - my favourite all inclusive ever (and I have been too many over the years). This resort may be the only one I go too in the future when visiting Mexico. Okay, don’t tell anyone else :)!!!

Wonderful

We loved our stay at the Barcelo Riviera Maya- Adults only. The hotel was fabulous, clean and very impressive. The Covid "policies" were masking when you approached a bar, front desk staff, walked around the buffet and being escorted to your seat in a restaurant you were to wear a mask. When walking around the hotel masking wasn't required. The resort bus also asked that people masked. The property was huge given that you could access all 6 hotels and amenities, impossible to do in a week.  [... read more]We intend to go back.

Awesome resort! Highly recommend!

I had a wonderful time at this resort. The place is spotless clean, the staff is really nice, and the food is amazing at the buffet and restaurants. My only critiques would be in terms of table service at the buffet in late meal times (ie: lunch at 3pm instead of at 12pm). It seems waiters get tired by then and start not replacing cutlery and cleaning tables and take a while to bring drinks. I would suggest also colouring sitting spots somewhat. For example, colour code rows of palm trees  [... read more]with a small coloured tape or colour trash cans so that your spot is easy to find when you come back from taking a plunge. Highly recommend overall!
