Christmas getaway

The RIU Latino was an excellent choice for a Christmas getaway and relaxation. The grounds were very well maintained, the staff were excellent and attentive. We received a complimentary upgrade and the view courtyard and of the ocean was great. The down side was Sunwing for our departure which was delayed and caused us to miss our first evening at the resort, we waited at the airport for our transport to the hotel. Despite having many transfer vans at the airport, six of us going to our reso [... read more]rt were split up and guests were going to other hotels. Two separate vans arrived at the same time, logistics would be to group the guest going to same resort together as we were all there waiting for transport. With the late arrival, minimal staff working at the hotel, we were left to find our room on our own. By the time we walked into our room, it was 2 in the morning! We had a Late departure home but were not able to get late check out. Then found out that our flights home would be delayed even more (same pattern as our arrival date!) we were left without access to the resort facilities as of 5 pm, waiting in the lobby! Our shuttle was delayed and actually a very dangerous drive to the airport due to speed and weaving in and out of traffic. The loss of the first evening and delays home left a damper on the vacation. I would recommend RIU Latino, but avoid Sunwing if at all possible

Beautiful resort!

I passed a great week at the Riu Latino, hotel for adults only. This hotel is modern, very well maintained, clean, with spacious rooms, and good restaurants where you don't need to make any reservations. The service at the bars is quite rapid. The staff is very polite, and give a very good service. The pools are clean. The beach and ocean are great. The shows at night are very professional. I recommend strongly this resort!

Five Star Experience

The hotel amenities are top notch! Foods and beverages are consistently good and there are variety of choices in all the restaurant (buffet and a ala carte) I also loved the bar inside the room.I also enjoyed the zumba and other games everyday. There splashworld slide added more fun at the pool. The beach view and atmosphere is relaxing.

Beautiful resort

The room was Very clean but wished they bleached sheets and had better pillows. Food done very well. Everything very clean. Servers pleasent and work hard. The shows were good. The pools clean. The spa was nice but they didn't tell us about the hot tubs and steam room. We had to find the hotel schedule ourselves. They were attentive to my husband's birthday also.

Amazing Resort

Overall, we absolutely loved this resort! Food - 5/5, many great options, with multiple great restaurants as well Swimming pools - 5/5 multiple pools, two have bars, one has a volleyball net and one has their main events/activities such as crazy games and dancing classes Room - great! Large and he view was great! Staff - 5/5 absolutely love the entertainment team and staff in the hotel. Ps: the entertainment team was amazing and they would remember “The Romanian”

Nice resort, has potential.

The best thing about the resort is that it is spotless and the rooms are lovely. We also enjoyed not having the hassle of booking reservations at the restaurants, instead you just show up and if you have to wait for a table then they give you a buzzer to let you know when to come back. The beach was nice as well and never had trouble finding a lounge chair at the beach or poolside. Areas where the resort was lacking….pools! They had several small pools, two were swim up bar pools but very s [... read more]mall and overcrowded. I would much rather have had a large pool that you can swim around than serval small ones- very choppy. Another big miss at this resort is the lack of bathrooms- if you need to use the washroom and are at the beach or pool you basically need to run to the main lobby as there are only two bathrooms near the pool and only one stall each for men and 2 for women. The lack of washrooms is actually unbelievable. None of the a La carte restaurants have washrooms so you need to go to the one bathroom in the main lobby. Entertainment also lacking….stayed a week and only two decent shows. There should have been entertainment nightly but this was not the case. Majority of staff and guests are Spanish speaking so all activities and entertainment is in Spanish with little in English. Activities near pool were repetitive and activity staff seemed young and not very engaging. This is a small resort- if you are going to relax it’s great. If you want good entertainment it is lacking. If you need a bathroom good luck.

Beautiful Ocean

Best part was the ocean! Ocean was clean. Minimal to no seaweed made for lots of swimming! Long shoreline in either direction was ideal for long walks. Pools were nice and but only swam in 3/5. Water slides were a blast!

Not a 5 star hotel

This hotel is new and therefore very clean. The night shows are mediocre and sometimes no show whatsoever. The food is same for lunch and dinner . There is nothing to do in the evenings. The beach is far from the hotel and the path to the beach should be much longer.

Very clean and modern design, more of a party vibe, food a bit lacking

Beach/Pools Seaweed was cleared everyday. I was able to go to the beach everyday, but expect there to be a yellow flag. There was a bit of seaweed in the water but nothing crazy. Chairs have to be reserved early in order to get shade. Standard Riu pools, activity pool, two bar pools, quiet pool, and water park. Spent most of my time at one of the bar pools, good shade during the day. Quiet pool was relatively respected although expect some yelling from the adjacent water slide park.  [... read more] Service I had no issues with any of the people that I interacted with. Check-in was relatively quick ~30 minutes from arrival. Bellboy promptly brought our luggage up to the room and we got right into relaxing within an hour of arrival. Ozuna was our main bartender at the pool bar and made a custom drink for us which ended up being our favourite for the trip. Elizabeth at the Velvet lobby bar was great and made okay cocktails, don't expect anything fancy here. The entertainment team was engaging but respective of your space. Food This is where I believe this resort lacks. There is a great selection but the actual quality of the food is not the best, specifically the meats. I regularly had meat dishes which were terrible cuts of meat or mostly fat. I experienced this the most at the steakhouse which was a joke at best. The steak was half fat and they only gave me a measly 3 ribs which I later found in the buffet. I didn't have much fish but the fish I had was good. My ranking for the restaurants is the following: 1. Milan 2. Kulinarium 3. Moctezuma (Buffet) 4. Geisha (Close tie with Buffet) 5. Pepe's Snack Bar 6. Steakhouse (VERY BOTTOM) Rooms Very modern design, looks amazing for the price you pay. Room was regularly cleaned and minifridge was regularly stocked. Some of the towels I received had some stains on them. I don't think I ever got a proper sleep, beds were subpar, and pillows had no fluff to them. You need to grab extra pillows from the closet in order to get somewhat comfortable. Value I paid roughly $1600/pp for 7 days in mid-July for a Partial Oceanview Room (was facing Isla Mujeres). I believe this was average and nothing special. I am open to trying something else the next time I come to Mexico. I believe this would be better suited for large groups of friends or family to party at. Location It took us about an hour to get to our hotel from the airport and we were the first stop. I only went offsite once for an excursion to Isla Mujeres which was a good time albeit a bit rushed. Booking through our Sunwing agent was around $85/pp to go and they took you to snorkel at the underwater museum off the southern shore of the island, provided a mediocre lunch, and gave you around 2 hours free time on the northern part of the island (Playa Norte). Sunwing offers a free shopping trip to Cancun which we didn't use. Other notes This resort is new, looks amazing, and does indeed live up to the photos posted by management. This resort is definitely suited for a group looking to party. I still enjoyed myself and met a variety of people that were there to relax and party. The resort is relatively big and we had to plan trips back to our room to go for lunch if we were in the pool because you couldn't be in a wet swimsuit, this can be avoided if you bring a change of clothes to the pool.

Great resort

This hotel was very clean, staff always cleaning public areas. Public washrooms ones of the cleanest I’ve seen on a resort. Pools were also very clean. Water slides were amazing, and so much fun. Beautiful beach, but the sand was very hot from the extremely hot weather. We spent a lot of time in the ocean, so refreshing. The bedrooms were very spacious and clean. By day three of complaining, they got it right.( this honestly is the only negative thing). Food was good, no one will ever go hungry, you will always find something you like. All staff were so friendly, but a lot of them didn’t not speak or understand English very well, but they still tried their best to communicate with you. Some even had google translate which was amazing. Oh, another negative was the Michael Jackson show. The worst show. I usually enjoy every Michael Jackson show, but this was terrible. Michael impersonator wore a black track pants with white stripe down side for the entire show. The only move he did well was the moon walk. All other shows were amazing. Manager at the swim up bar was amazing, he went above and beyond to make sure his guests were happy. Making special drinks was also a bonus. Night club needs to change up music, by playing a mixture of music and not just techno. Some Reggae or even salsa music would be nice.

Nice new resort but food was ok

Family trip south and overall the resort was new, very clean, service was good. The beach was long and well managed with regular drink service on the beach which was rare. However service and restaurant were ok and tended not be restocked as half through the meal service. The specialty restaurant were mostly self service and food quality was ok. The gourmet Restaurant was terrible. Bad service but also they order was messed up.

Very nice, clean, and fun resort

The hotel rooms were spacious, we had partial ocean view, 2nd floor. It was clean and had a liquor cabinet and restocked beer and beverage mini fridge. The second night, they put rose pedals all over the bed and floor, it was a nice surprise. The staff were all very friendly! All of the bars were clean and the staff were happy to be there. Coffee and food were also great. There were a lot of food options.

Amazing Resort

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at will look at more Riu hotels in future! Attentive staff Great food so much to choose from Lots of pools great beach & You have to check out the spa Highly recommend

Amazing resort!!

This hotel is one of the best we’ve stayed at.The whole staff were incredible. The grounds were immaculate! All staff were very friendly!! The food was all great from the buffet and the restaurants!! I would definitely go back!! If you like sitting on the beach, bring an umbrella so you can escape the sun a bit!

Riu Latino, amazing resort!!

Built in the fall of 2022 this Adult only resort was amazing. Situated North of Cancun, there was limited amounts of seaweed on the beach/water that was great. We had not been to Mexico since 2016 for that reason and had chosen Jamaica as our preferred destination since then. This was also our first RIU resort stay. Shade is limited on the beach nearest the water. Palm trees offer some shade yet they are 50 ft. from the water behind a small dune that somewhat limits the view of the Ocean. Poo [... read more]ls offered lots of shade, never an issue playing towel games. We usually arrived around 9 ish with our group of 3 couples. Loved the mobile bars (reminded us of an ice cream carts), to keep us hydrated :-). Pools were from quiet to partying as expected. Adult water slides....what more can I say, no line ups, well managed and a blast. Sixty eight (68) steps to the top but good for keeping trim from the great food. Restaurants (A la Carte) in our order of preference: Steakhouse, Asian (buffet style), Kulinarium, Milan, Poolside (Buffet) & Pepe's Food (grill). No reservations taken for restaurants, we showed up at opening and no problems getting seated. Buzzers provided if full. Entertainment was good on stage as well as additional events, white party, neon party, foam parties-great entertainment crew. Rooms was great, new and functional. Always well done by the staff and plenty of bottle water. We had room 4171 on the fourth floor that provide us view of the Ocean to our right and the mangrove on the left. Staff here are just amazing in every ways. Great price ($$) point. Would definitely consider going again :-) Do not be deterred by the small amounts of negative reviews on social medias, as those should just stay home!!

Great time at resort!

Resort was really nice - brand new, rooms were big, several pools. Staff was really great, attentive and friendly. Lots of entertainment that we really enjoyed. Food was also good - had a variety of options to choose from. Would definitely recommend!

Very Nice

Everything is very clean, staff is constantly working. Service is excellent, every time it was more than expected. Tips might’ve helped as we always tip but it hasn’t worked at other resorts. Pool and chair selection was never an issue. Beach is beautiful, water slides were unexpected as we thought it was only as the sister Dunmar location. Food was great but the alacarte’s could be one step better to becoming a fabulous resort. Great experience, great staff.

Amazing experience

I've been to a few resorts in Mexico, and this was by far the one with the best service. The staff was always smiling and helpful. The resort itself is very clean and well maintained. We went after spring break so we didn't have to fight for our lives for a chair. The buffet is very good, and the Menu à la carte restaurants are among the best I've had so far, and no reservation needed. The water slides are a really nice touch if you're into that! As for entertainment, the silent disco [... read more] was amazing, the foam party too. My only minor critic is the daytime music: it's kind of the same thing over and over, but again, far from a showstopper.

Beautiful Resort

Everything was very clean, and cleaning and gardening going on all the time. All staff members were very friendly. We got an awesome room with a great view of ocean even though it was considered courtyard view. White party was a total blast at the other resort. Pools well maintained and clean and bartenders were great as well, also had drink carts with fair selection of thing so you did not have to leave you chair. We joined the Facebook page and lots of information and can ask questions. RIU app was great for all information and schedules. Wifi was very good and fast with lots of coverage and no having to log in every time you go out of range( walk on beach). Food was very good at the buffet and restaurant’s, something for everybody. Entertainment shows were decent . All in all very happy with our vacation.

Terrible manager

We are actualy stick in Mexico nexause of Sunwing. We visited the Riu Latino. Got there a day late. Sunwing reported our plane and the manager kicked us out telling us that Sunwing wasn't rebooking for us. No Sunwing representant helping rebook for us. The Riu cut the internet off on us and we couldnt book something else.We got threatened to leave or they would call the cops. We are good people and got treated like criminals. Us and the others on our flight. We are now paying hotels and food a [... read more]nd taxis and leaving tonigght on another flight.that we booked at our charge, 3 days late.
