Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Great adults only getaway !
We went as a group for our 40th bdays, great party vibe, food, and drink! Lots of room for pool lounging! We enjoyed the pool atmosphere more than beach! Spacious rooms. Hallways in morning was a bit loud but overall quiet on the 2nd floor. Resort staff was great especially Romario!

Riu Ocho Rios: Jamaica No Problem, Mon
Cross-posted to Trip Advisor. Where to start... overall this trip was fantastic, the resort included. Would highly recommend the resort, Jamaica, and Riu properties. Would highly recommend the resort, Jamaica, and Riu properties. If I came back to this area I would no doubt stay here again.
- Beach: The nicest beach I've seen to date, especially on calm days. There is a reef just outside the swimming area. Bring your snorkel and enjoy it. If you're not a comfortable swimmer, bring a floatie.[... read more] So many fish to see (and stingrays if you're lucky)!
- Pools: seemed nice, didn't spend much time in them. Two swim up bars, one quieter infinity pool and a large activity pool.
- Waterslides: so much fun. Faster than you would expect! If you aren't familiar with how to go down the waterslides, make sure to ask for the proper form. Not much direction offered from the staff.
- Entertainment: The crew and the entertainment itself is amazing. Huge shoutout to these staff who literally never stop! Lots to do during the day and evening.
- Food was good, the buffet can get a bit repetitive and would have loved to see more Jamaican food but overall very good food. Don't miss the Jerk chicken! And for late night snacks, the Sports Bar is open 24/7. A la cartes were very good.
- Kids Club: the staff that worked there we SO FRIENDLY and the facilities looked great, no kids though so I didn't use it.
- Large property but never felt busy. NO VENDORS on the beach which was amazing. Lots of lounge chairs and shade on the beach. As usual, people reserve loungers at the pool and then never even use them. Limited elevators, so if mobility is an issue book a ground floor.
- Excursion: Booked through Scuba Caribe, took the catamaran cruise to snorkeling and then hiked up Dunn's River Falls. Totally worth it, great experience. Had a videographer that followed us and the video and pictures was totally worth the extra $40 USD.
Last notes:
- Riu app is very good - restaurant reservation and other requests are through that.
- long transfer to and from the airport (2+ hours) - if this is a deal breaker, book a private transfer.
- visited in March, and the grounds, pool, and beach get shady early (4 PM). This might change as the months change.
- the resort does a foam pool party, a white night party on the beach, and a glow party. Bring your all white outfit and neons!
- surprised that the smell of weed did not permeate every area of the resort. You'll catch a whiff here and there every once in a while, but not more than that.
- felt very safe in Jamaica. Far safer than DR or Mexico

Riu Ocho Rios: Wonderful family vacation!
We were guests in 2016 and at that time the hotel decor was very dated but even so the food and the amenities were still great. The upgrades to the resort since then have really elevated the experience - the rooms, buffet area, the swimming pools, the walkways. The addition of the water park/slides was a huge hit with both the kids and the adults.
We were very happy with the resort - our family group of 8 adults and 4 children had a fantastic time.
Service at the front desk and in th[... read more]e main restaurant/buffet was excellent. Lots of food choices for both adults and children. The grounds are very well kept and lots of staff throughout the resort ensure a clean environment. Staff helpful, friendly and responsive.
Never had a problem finding loungers either in the pool area or on the beach.
Enjoyed the variety of entertainment in the evening as well as the foam party and beach party. Live bands were excellent. Activities at the pool were lots of fun and the entertainment staff really worked hard to get guests involved
The Riu app was helpful for making restaurant reservations, requesting additional towels or just learning more about what the hotel has to offer.
If I had to find any areas I’d like to see improved it would be
1) the black garbage bins and the plastic cup and plate bins in the main pool area be better cleaned out and washed both inside and out. Same for cleaning the side tables by the pool loungers - often sticky from everyone’s drinks etc.
2) some different snacks in the Sports Bar - perhaps bags of chips, pretzels etc rather than just nachos everyday
Otherwise, excellent experience!
First time in Jamaica, here for 10 days. Resort was beautiful. The grounds very well maintained, never saw any garbage, glasses anywhere.
Had breakfast and lunch at Las Olas pretty much every day, Vinton, was very friendly and helpful talking to my husband about the different rums. The Jerk chicken at lunch there was amazing. Didn't care much for the Brazilian A-la-Carte that was there at dinner time. Went to the Buffet the remainder of the time ... very pleased with it, Different theme eve[... read more]ry night,.plus always had Jamaican food. which was amazing.
Our room was excellent, very clean and was exactly as we have had in the past at the Luxury in La Romana DR. The view however, not so good. Requested garden view. Instead overlooked the staff parking lot, the highway to the right, a few houses but did see a little of the ocean on the left. This was defiantly not gardenview !
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Resort so large, we got loss a few times trying to find the theatre for entertainment,(Bob Marley show was excellent) for even the first morning, didn't know where to go for breakfast. By the time other family members arrived a few days later, we had it all figured out.
Several pools .... didn't care for the main pool at the Luxury. The "party pool" Very crowded, and noisy, The connecting pools between the Luxury and the Grand, much quieter. Better for napping or reading.
The beach not great at our end. Had the cove, which was "cute" but not many chairs there and very windy. Had to go to the Grand side to be better.
Downfall, the air conditioning broke down. The first 2 nights we froze, ok for the next few then it started getting warm. Questioned it, advised the A/C was out in the entire resort. Problem with pipes or something, probably why we froze the first couple of nights. Finally starting to feel more comfortable 2 days before leaving.
Only did 1 excursion. Went to Nine Mile .. fabulous. A must do for any Bob Marlye fan!!
Overall, had a great time. Would I come back here? probably not. Too large for our liking. But that's our preference.

Grand Decameron Cornwall Beach: Decameron cornwall
Not kid friendly, no red stripe or any good booze whatsoever, food was terrible and building needed maintenance. Some staff were nice (2/10 staff), cross the street to buy beer or food, 1700 6 pack 300 a beef patty.

Sandals South Coast: Second Visit After 11 Years - Still Just as Awesome
We first visited this resort back in 2013. We came back as it checked all the boxes for what we wanted. The resort and its staff met and exceeded our vacation expectations. We did upgrade this time to a Butler Suite and with one of the accommodation block just about completed its renovation, the resort did not feel crowded at all. We had a wonderful time. Beach was great, refreshments were great and food was delicious. Definitely a resort we may revisit again for a third stay.

Catalonia Montego Bay: Great place
The hotel was ok, a little older but clean and well maintained. The rooms were very clean, no complaints. The food was delicious. The jerk shack had some awesome jerk chicken, there was a bbq area for burgers, fries, fish and grilled cheese, no disappointment here. You don’t do hungry, there is nacho and ice cream hut. The only thing is the beach, there is a lot of seaweed in the water, not good for swimming or long walks on the beach. Drinks were ok, would be nice to have more fancy drink[... read more]s.

Azul Beach Resort Negril: Beautiful resort
Rooms are nice, clean, mini fridge was stocked with drinks, good water pressure. Fold out couch bed was hard and too small for our 12 year old. No blowdryer. Grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Pools were nice, beach was amazing. They were constantly out of beach towels. People were just leaving their things on beach beds to claim them as their own the entire week. Food was pretty good (we’re vegan and they were happy to accommodate when we asked). Tipping is expected for everything whic[... read more]h was a bit annoying. Execs should just pay the staff what they deserve instead of putting that responsibility on guests. Loved the staff, very friendly and helpful. Entertainment was mediocre but we appreciated their effort, some shows were better than others. Overall the resort is a 4 star, not 5.

Riu Negril: Less than satisfactory stay at the Rui Negril
The resort, the grounds and the beach in general was beautiful. The rooms we had were less than ideal. We were told we would have rooms side by side and they confirmed this at check in but in fact the rooms we were given were not side by side. They were two rooms apart which was challenging as we were back and forth between rooms a lot with a 4 year old and not being right beside each other was challenging.
The rooms were quite musty smelling. The keys stopped working at least twice a day and[... read more] we had to go to reception each time to get them reprogrammed. At one point they had to call maintenance because even the reprogrammed key would not work. They had to reprogram the actual locks on both room doors.
Regarding housekeeping, even though we put the sign out to make up the room, we had to call for towels and blankets that had not been replaced.
On the beach we had a little girl come ask if she could play with my grandson. Assuming she was a guest at the resort we said sure. Within a few minutes we asked where her mom was and it turns out her mom was one of the vendors who walked along the beach. The mom actually took off and left the little girl with us and we had to go to reception to tell a manager there was a little 8 year old girl left alone on the beach. The little girl told us her mom had been banned from selling on the beach in the past, so I wonder if the resort needs to do a bit more monitoring of vendors on the beach at the resort.

Azul Beach Resort Negril: Great beach but not five star hotel
The beach is wonderful we had booked a swim up suite in the adults only section. There isn’t enough sun loungers at the beach. You have to get up at 4am to reserve one. There’s also lack of towels the resort. the workers work hard and are friendly but everywhere you go you’re always missing a little bit something maybe there’s not beer because the machine froze, no more mint for drinks. The food was good but the dining experience was similar to the bar. You might order a meal and then they’ll te[... read more]ll you. Oh yeah, there was no coleslaw. Rooms on the Beach Negril: Fantastic Time!!!
My wife and myself, vacationed here from March10th to the 17th.The resort is directly on the most beautiful beach, water is calm, sunsets absolutely breathtaking. The resort features a continental breakfast, with a fruitbowl, hardboiled egg, toast or bagel pluscoffeee, tea and or juice, this was very filling and fresh. You could also order fresh cooked breakfast, such as bacon and eggs. You have the option to order dinner such as hamburgers and hotdogs as well as tradional Jamaican dishes,Miss Kimmy was the[... read more] best. The room we had was on the second floor of building 5,it had a vaulted ceilings and the shower had plenty of hotwater and Miss Tenesha kept the room sparkling clean. This is not an all inclusive resort but if you are looking for a lowkey real Jamaican vacation this is definitely the ideal spot!!!

Iberostar Waves Rose Hall Beach: Will be back!
We have been to Iberostar Rose Hall twice. First time at the Suites (approx. 7 years ago). Second time at the Beach (last week). I would recommend both without hesitation. This review is about Rose Hall Beach which honestly I didn't think was that different from the Suites. The Suites have a Starbucks-esque cafe but otherwise, there is not much difference.
Highlights include the following:
- The gym is big, clean and well-appointed with many different cardio machines (tread, spin, step, elipt[... read more]ical), free weights and universal weight training equipment. It could, however, use more A/C throughout the gym
- Wifi throughout the resort is strong.
- The food at all restaurants was great. Great meals every single time. Even the buffet is delicious with many fresh and healthy options.
- With just a few exceptions, all staff (restaurant, bar, gym, cleaning) were very friendly and attentive.
- The lobby bar was the best for a pre-dinner drink and to play pool
- The pool bar was not nearly as good as they were constantly busy (March Break). The waitresses on the beach were a godsend to avoid the lines.
- The entertainment was well...entertaining! We didn't expect much but enjoyed the shows each night.
- The room was nice with a great deck overlooking the water which was great for a post day, pre-dinner reset. The bathroom could have used a few repairs but it didn't bother us much.
- The beach is nice with approx 1km (there and back) for walking.
- There are many vendors in kayaks on the water but they do not come on the beach and are never aggressive or rude. I did not feel unsafe at any time in Jamaica.
- The spa provided nice services. My daughter and I both enjoyed our facials and massages.
- The shuttle to the resort was no problem - very quick. The shuttle back was very long as we had delays at the other resorts. Next time, I will just pay the $40USD to get my own taxi back to the airport. (This is more of Sunwing problem than an Iberostar problem).

Ocean Eden Bay: Fantastic vacation
The resort was very nice overall. The room was beautiful and clean. The pool was nice and big with lots of lounge chairs available. The beach was small but beautiful. You had to get up very early to get a good spot. The restaurants were good if they were open. Grand Decameron Cornwall Beach: Will Definitely Be Going Back
I was worried because I read a lot of bad reviews on this hotel, but after 9 days at this lovely resort, I will go back. It’s a smaller resort but easy to find everything and easily accessible. I didn’t like the dinner reservation process as you stand in line and hope that there are enough spots available but the buffet was very good and we ate there a lot. Our room was clean and comfortable. The beach is incredible and has amazing snorkelling. Great value for what you pay.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Exceeded my Expectations
After our disastrous vacation last March Break (not booked through Trip Central), this vacation exceeded our expectations. I’ve stayed at Bahia Principes elsewhere but this particular resort was exceptional. All staff are friendly, approachable, and can clearly communicate with all guests. Food staff (particularly in the buf[... read more]fet) exercised good food handling protocols. Riu Ocho Rios: The kids club is outstanding!
If you have children under the age of 10, you will want to come here for the kids club. My 2 girls aged 7&9, asked each day to go to Riuland(the kids club). You know it's great when they choose that over the beach!
The staff were all very friendly and service was good.
We had hoped the food would be better. There seemed to be a lack of sugar in their baked goods as if sugar was a hard thing to come by in the country? Also, traditional dishes like oxtail had no flavour. I've had better oxta[... read more]il in Ontario. Spices also seemed to be in short supply. There was plenty of food choice but the depth of flavour was lacking.
Our room was the family room and it was outstanding! So clean and spacious.
The beach was also very nice. It was long and the ocean had some seaweed parts but also clear areas. Swimming was great. The pools were great, except my 7 year old couldn't touch the bottom of any of them. A pool with a shallow end would have been helpful. The kid area has a pool with slides in 1 foot of water depth which was too shallow for the 7 year old.
My 9 yearwas excited for the big water slides but was told she couldn't have goggles and there were no tubes to go down on, so she didn't like the feeling of just her body going full force into a very deep pool. My 7 year old wasn't tall enough for the slides by an inch, so check ahead of time to see if your child is the right height. I think it was 4 feet tall, but not sure.
Also, the big slide with the swirl wasn't working.
