Barcelo Solymar: Not good

Food not good. I ate out almost every day. Same food for lunch and dinner every day. Pork in everything . I don’t eat pork. Even vegetables had pork. No snack bar. Rooms not clean and hard to get towels. Staff in restuarant on cell phone. Hard to get service even after tip

Occidental Caribe: Not the best

Wasn’t a fan of this resort. The food, pool and beach were great. Bug the customer service was terrible and the rooms were badly kept. There were 2 days when I didn’t get my room clean and had to call the froth desk multiple times to get a cleaner to come in. Won’t be returning here

Occidental Caribe: Large resort but relaxed

It is a large resort the beach is beautiful my room was clean and functional. Food was adequate, the drinks were plentiful. I was there to relax swim and read books and had a good time. Not high end but felt safe and didn’t have any issues.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: barcelo Maya Riviera - Adults only. Modern and very well managed

The Barcello Maya Riviera is the "adults only" and newest addition to the strip of Barcello hotels that are all on the same property. The hotels are all lined up beside each other along the shore. I would guess that its about a kilometer of walkable beach between the ends of the barcello property. The hotel is the newest one on this property. The building, lobby, and grounds are maintained beautifully. The hotel is very modern and current. The hotel is able to host large conventions and this buffet section is built to handle it. The variety of food is great and well made. There are 4 other a la cart restaurants. Reservations are required. The service is excellent, the menus are excellent, the food is excellent. This is one of the best restaurant experiences we have had over the years. The pools are the largest, and cleanest we have seen. 4 Infinity edge, pools with a number of waterfall and tub like settings with jets. Beautifully maintained and a pleasure to use. This was our 2nd time back over 4 years. The hotel is maintained to the highest standard.

Barcelo Tambor: Could be better

I like the grounds. The room was clean but had a musty smell. The bathroom needs to be renovated. The staff was nice but some didn’t speak English and it was difficult to communicate with them. The food was good, but could use more seasoning.

Barcelo Tambor: Didn’t meet expectations

The grounds are nice and kept clean. The room was dirty when we checked in (stained sheets and pillows, dirty coffee maker, hair on the shower head etc). The bathroom is in disrepair and has mold. Some staff were pleasant while others were rude. Most of the staff don’t speak English which was somewhat annoying but not unbearable. The food left a lot to be desired as most of it was bland. The a la carte restaurants are a bit better than the buffet but with long wait times for bland food, it’s hard to enjoy.

Barcelo Solymar: There is nothing worse than this hotel

First room was with mold stinks like hell changed next day, had to beg for beach towels for 2 days, no hot water, had to beg to fix it, the lock got broken, had to enter through the balcony, spent half day to fix it. The cheery on top - when transfer bus came to pick up we had to wait for someone to open the storage room with our luggage. I kind of expect any of these happened but not ALL of it in one week. Stay away if you value your vacation time! Food was ok though. I lost 5 pounds)))

Occidental Costa Cancun: Fantastic

Everything was fantastic especially the staff. The swimming area in the ocean was small but access to the bars was very easy to get to also the ala carte. Met a lot of nice people from England, Poland , Ottawa Alberta , US , Argentina, The excursion was very good and also the tour guide. The staff always cleaning all round. The buffet was great and the snack bar.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Mixed Feelings - Lovely Resort

The grounds are lovely and the waterparks and beach fantastic for kids. It is a very large resort and a trolley is provided to take you to and from the beach and eating areas. We ate mostly in the 2 buffets since fixed a la carte dining times don't gel with toddlers. We have been to the DR annually for 25 years and not sure I would come back to this resort. The rooms were a little dated but had everything you would need - maid service was fantastic. 2 of our group played golf and enjoyed the course. Elevators are provided to get to higher floords as needed. The theatre area was lovely with lots of seating. I needed to use the onsite medical clinic ClinicAssist. They are very professional, have any medications you may need and the staff speak English well.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Vacation in Paradise

After months of waiting we (group of 6) finally took a belated birthday trip to this resort and what an awesome experience! We arrived right at check-in time and the front desk had us processed in under 10 minutes. Our room was 5722, Junior suite oceanview and did not disappoint. Super clean, huge comfortable bed (the biggest we've ever seen) and a view to die for were just what we needed. Mini fridge restocked daily, towels replaced and room left spotless every time. A la cartes Went to all four and was not disappointed. Portion sizes were good and choices were plentiful Buffet Almost too many choices! Always a great selection and food was hot and replenished frequently Bars Great drink selection and bartenders were always friendly and service was fast. Club (Jaguars)/Strikers Bar A real night club at a resort and a rec/play area for all ages. Fun!! Cons None for this resort at all. We've been to quite a few all-inclusives and this was by far one of the best. A definite must return for us Just a heads up that the other resorts at this complex are a complete nightmare at the buffets. Kids misbehaving while their parents ignore them. Hands in the food, food on the floors and even a kid riding a scooter at dinner. Returning to the AO was a definite highlight after a visit to the Palace buffet. If you've seen the one negative YouTube review of this resort I can assure you that the person who posted it has either never really stayed here or is angry that he wasn't comped for his stay. Everything, and I do mean everything he said was a complete lie. Do yourself a favour and book this resort.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Best Beach Location

This is our 4th time to this resort and it is still the best and longest beach location. Accomodations were great and. grounds always well maintained.Lots of pools to choose from. This was the first time we were disappointed with the food....you won't go hungry but the quality of food was not as good as I remember but they say that covid has changed a lot with these hotels. Did a couple of ala cartes and they were excellent, wish we had booked more.

Occidental Punta Cana: Good time with friends

Occidental Papagayo: Stunning Resort!

This resort is stunning, the landscape is beautiful it'll take your breath away. The food was great at both the buffet and a la cartes. There were monkeys and lots of wildlife right on the resort. We really enjoyed the pool by the beach, there is a swim up bar and it had a great vibe. If you're looking for a relaxing quiet resort this is the one!

Occidental Caribe: Breathtaking views

Resort is beautiful and well maintained. Food is amazing at breakfast, ok at lunch then suppers were great at the buffet. Pizza place is amazing above the snack bar. The ocean and beach is so clean and breathtaking! Loved my time here.

Occidental Caribe: Honest Review

The beach is large with lots of chairs, it’s honestly spectacular. The pools are a great layout for families although they were far from clean and if you want a shady area to sit you have to go out at about 5 am to mark your spot. The food was enjoyable and the a la cart restaurants were very good. It was difficult to get an early reservation in order to eat before the babies had to go to bed, you have to go down to guest services very early and request this and then go back later in the day t [... read more]o confirm. The service was overall quite poor, that’s not to say all employees were unhelpful but it was a mixed bag depending on who you got. I had to fill bottles of milk for my baby and many employees would give me a carton for the room but I did have one woman flat out refuse and only offered me a cup which wouldn’t fill even the whole bottle. Also there is no non-dairy milk option so if you or your child has an allergy this would be an issue. We were travelling with family and young babes so we asked for rooms to be close together ahead of time and were refused any help both ahead and at the resort when we landed. We also asked to reserve cribs and we’re told they were first come first serve so we had to bring our own travel cribs to ensure our babes had a safe place to sleep. If we didn’t ask ahead we could have shown up with no where for our babies to sleep. The rooms are dated which wasn’t a big deal to us but the toilets didn’t flush very well and the room wasn’t always cleaned daily, we each had a day where a room wasn’t cleaned or towels weren’t replaced. Overall the resort is a great size and the pools and amenities are great for young families but I would say the service really needs to level up to match the same standard.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Incredible Resort

I cannot express how impressed my husband and I were We have traveled for many years to the Caribbean. This was by far the best resort we have ever stayed at. The food was amazing..Grounds were beautiful. Amenities were too many to list.

This resort had gorgeous ,well kept grounds. This huge resort is made up of 6 individual Barcelo resorts, and has so much to do, would highly recommend it for families with kids and young teens. The Barcelo Maya Beach resort, is definitely not as nice as the others. The food and buffet was sub par, however you can go to the other buffets Colonial & Tropicale & Palace were much better. The beach was nice and snorkelling was actually decent right off shore. Many stingrays and barracuda. There were not enough bartenders for the # of guests, always lineups. Generally a nice place if you like enormous resorts. I would definitely choose the Maya Tropicale or Colonial over the Maya Beach. We heard that the " adult only" Barcelo Maya Riviera was very good, and is also on this property

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Great family resort (and for couples if you stay at the adults only section)

A huge resort - six resorts in one. Lots of pools. There is a dolphin pool area which you can participate in ($) or just watch. Many a la carte restaurants but because we were there during US spring break it was difficult to make reservations. Resort is well taken care of. Lots of beach access but no beach umbrellas or other sources of shade. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Because of the size of the resort there is a shuttle bus to help get around. Barcelo Maya Palace: Enjoyable resort!

Flight was delayed, and not many rooms left when we arrived late Saturday night, but they did accommodate a move on Monday to a great room, and made it relatively painless. Resort was much busier our second visit, Canadian and US spring break back to back, but found a nice secluded area, and met some great people. The property is big enough, you can always find comfort, and something to do.

Barcelo Solymar: Horrible Resort!

Food was absolutely disgusting and should not be consumed! No bread, milk, eggs, potato’s, juice, water, soda, vodka etc. Dirty dishes. Horrible wait staff who stand around and do not take your drink order even when tipped. Mouse poop in our bungalow all over and in the fridge. Fridge, safe, and door to the room broken (we had to exchange our door key cards three times in the five days we were there). Some staff were nice, others not friendly at all. The only two things we enjoyed on the resort was the Italian a la carte (wonderful, friendly staff, and an okay meal!), and the beach. If you’ve been to Cuba before (myself 11 times now) you always come for the beach and the people! The people are not friendly like they were prior to COVID and I feel horrible for the conditions they have to deal with.
