Clean rooms, no insects visible. The buffet has enough dietary and meat dishes. The staff is polite and pleasant. The beach with white fine sand is convenient for swimming and long distance walks. The only thing missing is evening performances at the theater.

Playa Pesquero: Mediocre Resort
Our first room was unacceptable, we had asked to be close to our friends, it took us two days to change have it changed. Both rooms were rundown, they required maintenance. There was no hot water, it was luke warm at best. The shower head leaked and water squirted everywhere. There was a leak in the ceiling on the second last day, and soaked the floor. None of the plugs for sinks, bedet etc., worked.
The phone didn't work, the internet (wifi) was very weak at best.
We understand the e[... read more]mbargos on food, however, there was not a lot of variety and tasteless. There was no white wine anywhere to be had.
Even the a la carte's left a lot to be desired, except for the Gondola. IT was good.
The entertainment was very disappionting.
The staff at reception was very unattentive and didn't seem to be interested in resolving any issues, we had to return a number of times, and finally speak to the manager twice.
The men's washrooms were not working most of the time in the lobby, and we had to use the women's washroom resulting in a unisex situation.
It was very long travel days, almost 11-16 hours due to delays.
It was a long way to go to have a mediocre vacation.
The grounds, pool and beach were beautiful.

The staff working on the resort were amazing. The rooms and resort itself were up to par for what you pay for it other than my room had no hot water. I knew of the food shortages before going and was completely fine with the food other than the lack of fruit. My biggest complaint was they ran out of rum almost everyday and had nothing to mix hard liquor with or make drinks with so really all there was to drink on a typical day was beer or whiskey. Also they didn’t put water in the rooms and ever[... read more]yone had to buy bottled water from the resort when it was available.

Playa Costa Verde: Have Visited Many Times!
We have visited Playa Coste Verde at least 8 times over the years, and go back to connect with the incredible staff as it is just like going home for us. If you are looking for the most modern & up-to-date facilities, you won't find them here, but everything is well maintained & clean. There are lots of shortages in Cuba at the moment, so some food items aren't readily available, but the chef & staff did a great job of being creative & offered many different choices each day. It's really impor[... read more]tant for us to understand that the people of Cuba face overwhelming challenges and it seems to get harder for them each year, so I would encourage you to take along some items that you can leave behind. Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: An honest review read all
This resort was beautifully maintained maids at the public bathrooms all day constantly tiding.
Guys up on ladders cleaning air vents and always puttering around painting things.
The food was very well done, as to be expected in Cuba style.
The room was beautiful and clean AC worked ALMOST the whole time. Bed was really comfy and the shower was amazing.
Staff did their best, but you can definitely tell they are tired, I've always loved Cuban resorts for their happy, bubbly, welcoming st[... read more]aff but that just wasn't there this trip. Understandably so I know they are going through some crappy stuff.
We stayed in the Sanctuary which is adults only... and here is where my disappointments came in.
There is a very small options buffet for breakfast and lunch on the Sanctuary side if you want to avoid the kids.
However if you want a hot breakfast unfortunately the buffet is not kids free, nor are the al a cartes or beach.
Every night between 8-9 in the lobby (also where the sanctuary bar is found) they do kids entertainment... My spouse and I are early birds so this was really disappointing to us having our final drinks of the evening listening to baby shark and kids screaming sucked.
The beach party on Thursday would have been amazing but again... over ran with kids even after 9 when their entertainment was complete.
We ended up at the Sanctuary pool for a majority of the trip because the beach was filled with kids no spots set aside for adults only. I love swimming in the ocean and snorkeling so this was really disappointing.
My recommendations to this resort would be to take advantage of the beautiful fun club you have on the other end of the resort and do all kids stuff there. Considering half your resort is the Sanctuary guests I think it's safe to say most people don't want to be seeing kids during the evening relaxing. There should also have the beach separated as well it's a huge beach so their is no reason why the kids can't stay down at their end and leave the sanctuary side as 100% adults only including beach.
If it weren't for the issues with paying for adults only and not really getting to experience that, I would say this is easily a 4/5 star resort unfortunately the kids took that way down for me.

This is a really great resort. The lobby is expansive and leads to well maintained rooms. The rooms are large and well equipped. The pools are well maintained and have many chairs. One negative is there is a slight lack of shady areas around the pools. The beach is beautiful and had many shady areas. The. A la cart restaurants were quite good. Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Wonderful resort. We’ll certainly be back.
Employees were warm, welcoming and very helpful as usual. Lots of food, and the variety was good, including shrimp, calamari, lobster, and also great pizza in the 24-hour restaurant. Enjoyed the sun and acres of clean white sand all week on the huge beach with a lovely sprinkling of natural trees. You can’t beat the spectacular views from the front or the rear of this resort! Take some bug spray this year though as unusually wet weather last fall brought out a few tiny but itchy mosquitoes.

There's a train that comes every mo[... read more]rning around 945am for free that will take you to 2 museums ($2 & $7) that reflect on Indians that came from Venezuela and a burial ground replica, then take you to a farm where you get fresh fruit grown on the property!!

Food was good, but repetitive. Go for breakfast early if you want bacon...
Not so good....
No free Bottled Water- they have giant bottles 2 for $5
No pop.....
Food was repetitive. If you go to the buffet at lunch, you'll see what your dinner will be except you'll get either beef, chicken or pork. Sometimes fish with bones lol..
Not much selection of fresh fruit
The water served in restaurants has a weird taste
Other than that we would definitely return!!

Enough the staff cannot help that.one more thing food wise it was 99% better than in April 2023.
I would recommend this hotel but will first tell them what they can expect, not more than fair.

Brisas Guardalavaca: Love this place
Cuba January 2024
Is I sit here in my warm bed I’m thinking ?. Going on my second week here. There are many shortages. Diet Coke. Cola. Sprite. White wine. Champagne, and even water at times. I started to fall into the typical tourist attitude.
“The money we pay and there is nothing! Complaining ?. Again as I sit here in my warm bed, I’m thinking about the Cuban people that don’t have heat in their house on chilly nights. As it gets here in January and February. The Cuban people[... read more] who don’t have Diet Coke wine, champagne, or even water and I’m thinking the food is great. My belly is full….I am not cooking. I am not Cleaning, so who am I to complain about the shortages that the workers here at the Hotel cannot control???? it’s not their fault they feel terrible when they have to say sorry we don’t have it. For some reason we tourists feel entitled, but if they can’t even get it. How do we expect to have it? Yes, we pay a bit of money to come here, but it’s Cuba. We have good music, pool, beach, entertainment and cold beer. There are shortages!!! As I look in the mirror and see my tanned face and feel the warmth ??on my body. I realize the reason why I came here!!! It’s freezing cold at home and I just wanted to feel the sun ? on my face. That’s what I’m getting every day when I go down to the beach. I have sun on my face and I see the beautiful ocean. Watch the Cuban family’s play on the beach and see how happy they are with nothing. They are starving don’t have cold unlimited beer, they don’t have a quarter of what we have here at the hotel but they are still happy. I’m speaking about every hotel at the moment has shortages doesn’t matter how much you pay or where you go, so when you come to cuba. Remember bring things that we enjoy and have abundance of from Home, ketchup, mustard mio dry soup anything that can make your trip better because here they just don’t have it and it’s not their fault. Bring lightweight stuff ( dry soup, boxes of stuffing) I even brought frozen orange juice. Yep the floors are slippery when they’re wet , it’s not the Cubans’s fault…. we just have to be more cautious and more careful as in another post get slip resistant sandals, or shoes to avoid slipping and falling. They have to wear very uncomfortable shoes all day long standing 16 HOURS they slip and fall and they get hurt yet they still have to work. They still greet us with a smile. So to all the workers here at Brisas . Thank you for all your hard work and your dedication. I’m grateful for you, a clean room, cooked food, wifi , especially breakfast lol, soap, shampoo, AND TOILET PAPER in room. I am sorry if I had complained once maybe twice about no diet Coke or no white wine. I’m sorry I love your country and I love every minute that I am here. We are not entitled we are spoiled.
Dedicated to everyone lying around soaking up the beauty of Cuba.
Even with the flaws I will return.

Iberostar Selection Holguin: Extremely concerned for any future travellers
Hello Trip Central team,
We are writing to you on behalf of our entire family about our recent trip to Iberostar Selection Holguin, Cuba, on January 3rd – 10th, 2024, which was booked with Sunwing through Trip Central. For context, instead of buying Christmas gifts this year, we decided to take a trip with the whole family, which included 10 of us total. We heard great reviews about booking through an agent with Trip Central, so we thought that now would be a great opportunity to try. The boo[... read more]king process was smooth; Steve Langstaff was kind and professional. He provided us with all the information and resources we’d need to have a successful trip. We can’t say enough about how great the process was with Trip Central. However, to say we are tremendously disappointed with the trip overall is an understatement. Below, we will walk you through how it went.
Starting with Sunwing:
The Sunwing customer service staff and flight crew on flight WG6342 were by far the rudest employees our entire family has ever experienced. Many other travellers/passengers agreed.
From the time we arrived at the airport, it was completely disorganized, and it felt like absolute chaos. When we arrived at the airport, we checked in and requested 10 seats together. However, we were told this was not possible. We understood that it was a big ask having not pre-selected seats in advance, so we were disappointed that we could not all sit together, but we completely understood. We then checked our baggage and received our boarding passes. It was not mentioned to us that we had to take a shuttle to a different terminal, so we were unaware until a final boarding call announcement was made (2 hours prior to the scheduled boarding time), to which we quickly received more information on where to go and then hopped on the shuttle. Upon boarding, we were told to bring the stroller for our 1-year-old on the plane and the women at customer service provided us with a sticker for it. When we boarded the plane, the flight attendants were quite rude to us about it, informing us that we should not have brought the stroller on the plane and that someone should have taken it from us before we boarded. We were just following instructions, so we gave them the stroller to secure it where they pleased. We then proceeded to our seats. This was just the start. As mentioned earlier, as a family of 10, we wanted to book our seats in successive rows. Six of us sat together across from one another in the middle of the aircraft while the other 4 were at the front of the plane. Much to our dismay, when we boarded the flight, it was only about ¾ full of many empty seats. We remained in our seats for takeoff (we have 2 young kids with us, 1 and 4) and about halfway through the flight, a family member let us know there was a full empty row of seats right in front of them. We brought the kids back to see and get some support from the family and sat down in those empty seats for a few minutes. These seats were the emergency exit seats that my family, who was in the row behind on both sides of the aisle, agreed to look after in case of an emergency and received the training for, because 10 of the 12 seats were unoccupied. One male flight attendant came over and said very nicely that unfortunately, the children could not sit in the emergency seats, which is completely understandable for safety reasons, so we apologized and switched up the seats with our family. Approximately 30 minutes passed and who we assume to be the lead flight attendant, who refused to tell us her name but can be described as a French-Canadian blonde woman, came over to us and very smugly said "Who told you that you could sit here?". We explained we had been sitting here for 30 minutes because the children were fussing and all of our family was back here. We also explained that another flight attendant had spoken to us to ensure the children were not sitting in the emergency row seats, but nothing beyond that. She was very aggressive in her approach, explaining that "these seats cost extra money per person, you can't just sit here". We apologized and offered to pay the upcharge for the seats and explained that we had tried to book seats all together upon check-in but were told that it was not possible. We would have been more than happy to pay to be closer to our family. She began raising her voice and told us “it was too late”. She then excused herself and said that “she will be back in a moment”. She then made an announcement over the intercom system regarding sitting in your own seats, to which we followed and went back to our original seats so not to have any confrontation. Not only this, but our ENTIRE family was skipped over for drink service and for Sunwing excursions, which was very unprofessional. We ended up spending a couple thousand dollars on excursions for the family when we arrived at the resort, but we booked with a different company when we got there. Cherry on top of the flight, when we were disembarking the plane in Holguin, everyone got a "have a great trip" except for our family. The behaviour of this flight crew was disgusting. All in all, customer service and communication overall were extremely poor and the employees were very rude and unprofessional.
Iberostar Selection Holguin:
We arrive at the resort, check-in was a breeze, the staff was great and we got shuttled to our buildings as the resort is huge. The rooms are nicely decorated, air conditioning was on, and it was great. As we are looking around the room, we notice that the mini bar is empty (unusual for an all-inclusive resort) and there are 2 canteen bottles of water on the desk with a sticker that reads "purified water" with numbers written on the sticker with a pen. Strange, as we have all been on dozens of all-inclusive vacations and have never seen this before. The water smelled like mud and tasted like what I would describe as the smell of walking into a busy nail salon (and did not get better throughout the trip). It was awful and what I would consider to be not drinkable, although we had no other option. We had requested bottles of water through the housekeeping staff, store clerk, bartenders, customer service, etc. with no success – all mentioned that there is no bottled water on the resort. After a few days, we noticed that there was mold on the inside lid of the canteen water bottles. Not just one, but most of them. This was extremely concerning and was of course brought to the attention of customer service.
Within a couple of days of being on the resort, we had 2 of 10 of our family members violently ill. They were so sick they couldn't even leave the room for 24-48 hours, predominantly with cold sweats, vomiting, and diarrhea, followed by a lingering upset stomach. By day 4, it was 6 of us that had experienced this and by day 5, all 10 of us had been unbearably sick for at least 24-48 hours, not even able to leave our bed unless it was to run to the toilet. By this time, we had enough and asked some of the resort staff to bring us bottled water from their town for the next day, which we paid out pocket for. This only lasted for so long, so we ended up having to go to other resorts in the area and bribe them with tips for one or two bottles of water. All in all, each bottle we received ended up costing us between $2-$5 USD per bottle. In total we spent a few hundred dollars on bottled water. Safe, clean drinking water really should be available—it is essential. It was not until day 5 violent illness and expressing our discernment to the Management Team at the hotel that we got a big jug of water for each one of our 4 rooms. By this time, it was too late, everyone had already been so sick. The only reason we were able to save the trip was because there were 10 of us, and we all looked out for one another while the others were ill. If we had been alone, it would have been the worst trip of our lives. One of the housekeepers said in confidence how sorry she felt for us, as “many others on the resort are very sick as well”.
Aside from the water issue, the food supply was extremely limited. For the first 2 days of the trip, there was only canned fruit (pears and peaches). On day 2 there was unripe pineapple and unripe watermelon. On day 4 the resort received lettuce and papaya. The only protein options were fish, pork, or beef. They ran out of eggs for breakfast. Most options were bread, pizza, and pasta. Fortunately, we came knowing that food options may be limited, but we didn’t expect it to be this bad.
In all, the staff at Iberostar were amazing! A huge shout out to Axel who made our late-night meals so much fun! All staff were kind, and caring, and truly went above and beyond for all guests to ensure we were well taken care of and having a great time! The resort was clean and well cared for, decorated beautifully, and had entertainment and events every day and evening. They didn’t have much music playing in a lot of places which would have been great to brighten up the mood, but that’s just personal preference.
Ending with Sunwing:
Our flight was delayed approximately 5 hours on the way home due to technical reasons (which we found out via the pilots announcement after we had boarded the plane). The Sunwing flight WG6343 home was fantastic, the cabin crew were wonderful. Our children and one family member were still not feeling well, and the crew took great care us.
On a closing note, Trip Central & Sunwing – it is NOT safe to send people to a resort that does not have clean drinking water (or bottled water) for their guests. Clean and safe drinking water is essential and arguably the most important thing a resort should have. This is supposed to be a 5-star resort however the lack of safety for its patrons is beyond concerning. We would like an explanation as to why this resort does not have any clean or bottled water, while the resorts just steps away did.
Please do an investigation and follow up with us. We will be posting public reviews once we hear back from you. We believe compensation would be appropriate to address the significant dissatisfaction and inconvenience we experienced. This trip was far from a vacation; we collectively spent more time in bed and/or being caregivers to one another than we did anything else.
This was written by a family member and sent by myself, who booked the trip with Trip Central. This concern is sent on behalf of all 10 family members.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to your response.
