Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Very Disappointing

We are not picky people, and have visited the DR many times, and know what to expect. The only good thing I can say about this resort is that the grounds are beautiful, the layout to the beach is gorgeous. The pools do need to be painted, but grounds maintenance does a wonderful job. That is all it has going for it. I am serious, stay away. I have never written a review like this. We normally will choose Air Transat if given the option, after this experience I don’t know who to travel with.  [... read more] You will be told this resort is 30 minutes from airport, after we CLEARED the airport and got to the Air Transat bus. We sat in parking lot, in bus with no AC for 1 hr 40 minutes, while they sold beer to the people on bus, then drove over an hour to get to the resort. Almost 3 hrs!!!! Then stand in line at resort to get your room. Our first room had no A C, no working toilet, sliding glass door I could not open on my own. The plugs in room were old and European. The shower had no water pressure and impossible to adjust. After going back down to reception, I am told there are no other rooms, unless we pay more money. I refused as I did not want upgrade, I wanted a working room. I contacted Air Transat, who only directed me to rep there. The Rep was not there, could not be reached, so had to wait till next day. The rep was useless, we were offered a room worse than the first at the very back of the resort, or pay more money again. Finally after rep left us. Managed to get a manager who moved us to working room. 2 days of our vacation ruined. The rooms are very dated, the big news here is you cannot adjust the AC, the ones in room are not broken, the AC is controlled by resort. You can barely feel it. Most rooms have ceiling fan you need running full blast. The Tv has only CNN for the only English station. The resort has power outages all the time. Make sure to have flashlight in bathroom with you as i was in pitch black in shower. You also need that power to keep fan going. Good luck!! Now on to food. Breakfast buffet was good for fresh made eggs, then be prepared to fight the flies off your other choices. Flies are sitting on all the food. First time on holiday I lost weight. If you like Diet Pepsi, you are in luck. It is all they have. No regular pop and all. There is so much more I can write. 2 days to get umbrella. 5 times to front desk for it. Beach is pretty, but hard to walk in to sand because first 5 feet are broken coral. There is absolutely nothing to do here in the evenings. Bartenders don’t know any drinks. I wanted to go home. How Air Transat represents this is beyond me, and never expect help from the rep there. My suitcase was kicked by the person loading the bus. They cracked it and denied it. This could be a great hotel, but they don’t care, and never will. I spoke to so many, all with issues and would never come back. You have been warned!!! Normally we would be booking our next trip for February, I have no interest in travelling at all now. Just thinking of the disgusting food, and flies there makes me sick. Choose somewhere else please. The staff and management is horrible. I sure miss the great staff at Sunscape.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Not worth the money

Small resort with very few amenities. Food was OK, but they ran out of wine for 3 straight days including buffet and all restaurants/bars. Forget about any service. There is almost no entertainment there and the only activity is beach volleyball (self organized). Hotel looks very bland with zero decor. Beach is OK if you are allowed to swim as they just hang permanent red flag and do not allow anyone to enter water. In general it is greatly overpriced regardless of how much you paid for it. The [... read more]re are way better resorts in Dominican at the same or even lower price point (ignore star ratings, those have nothing to do with actual value).

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Amazing resort

Very nice ,friendly atmosphere,very clean,food is great The manager and staff are great Beach is very nice.We were 6 times in Puerto Plata VHGrand Ventana and we will be back soon.This time we brought our friends they were very happy

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: You get what you pay for!

We went to Viva Tangerine by Wyndham because inexpensive but we now wish we would choose different hotel. For starters the entire hotel had problems with hot water. Out of 7 days we had 2 days when we could take comfortable shower. The only bar in this resort was always very crowded and noisy ( especially when there was rain and all guests had to stay in this small hall) The food was ok but the drinks were very low quality. The wine was not drinkable! There was also water or something oily comin [... read more]g from the ceiling on our bed despite of the fact that our room was on a ground floor! On the positive, the beach is big and the entrance to the ocean very shallow and no rocks. Also there were a lot of beds around the pool and beach so no need for reservations. The staff was trying hard to please guests but the hotel should not operate if it's lacking basic facilities. Overall we would never go back to this resort and we were happy that we were leaving after one week.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Nice Resort

The rooms were spacious and clean, pool needs improvement there are pieces of concrete in the bottom. The staff is friendly and courteous. The resort would be best for adults, the restaurants were nice, the staff was amazing and the food was really tasty. We went to the Japanese and steakhouse.

The Select section of the hotel was very well kept. The waiters were exceptional and friendly. Viva Heavens by Wyndham: So so

The staff were great but this resort is not for people who have mobility issue . At first we were given a room on ground floor patio door did not lock I had to threaten them to sleep in the lobby before they give me a different room. This resort has some kind of vacation plan so if you are not part of the plan you can have only certain drinks just the cheap stuff. To go to the beach you have to walk a good distance only one pool food is ok to many kids running around

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Loved the resort

It was a very nice resort. People were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The Japanese restaurant was exceptional, Very entertaining. The only problem I had was there entertainment was not as good as I had hoped. I wax hoping there would be some live dancing or soneth continued after the theater was done. There was no sports bar or anywhere to hang out.other than that everything was very good.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great beach

The hotel was lovely, not too big, not too busy, good food, friendly staff. The single rooms were nice. We will come back. We toured on of the jr. suites and will probably upgrade to that next time. The beach was worth going back for for sure

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Relaxing week

My wife and I arrived on Wednesday, August 21 for one week. Before I write this review please remember it’s all about expectations. if you’re looking for a brand new resort with high-end food choices, this resort is not for you. The hotel was very clean but does show its age. Approximately half the rooms of the hotel were under renovation to update the look and was very impressed that even though construction was going on, it was still relatively quiet. The food at the resort was good, the buffet always had a nice variety. There are three à la restaurants, Mexican, Italian and Asian, the food of these restaurants again we’re good, my wife and I really enjoyed the Mexican restaurant. The beach It’s not your typical Dominican white puffy sand But was still very beautiful and picturesque, being on the Atlantic side, it is definitely a lot more windier. I think due to storms the previous weeks there was more sea weed than normal, this was cleaned daily. The actual swimming area was also limited, water buoys marked the areas you were to stay in. The only drawback on this vacation was the pool, the cleanliness needed to be more frequent, the debris, dead bugs and bird faeces needed more attention. Overall for the price that we paid for this week of vacation we were very satisfied.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: It is a budget all-inclusive resort

If you have a tight budget but still want to go to an all-inclusive resort, this can be your choice. Staffs are friendly and will do their best to help you. Resort is small but clean. Pool can be crowded. Beach is nice but with high waves, not a place to swim ( we stayed 7 days and 5 days are red flag. Staff will ask you not to ocean at all). Food is OK. Not lots of choices though and it seems same menu almost everyday. We did walk to a nearby sea food restaurant to have dinner three times.

The rooms where great ..food was good..beaches clean...but need better entertainment for kids and adults...not the same every night ..kind of boring..services where good..always had drinks availed.. West jet person was always on the resort so if you needed any information or help

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great vacation

This resort was great. Perfect for families. We thought pool area, beach, food, drinks were all great. We did get the upgrade and thought it was well worth it for us. Rooms were good a little small for 4 but still kept clean and very comfortable. Entertainment was good as well. We really enjoyed it here and would recommend. Thank you all who made our vacation great!!!

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Beautiful Resort with Amazing staff

The Grand Ventana is a beautiful resort, after being there, now know why so many people return here! We had the premium package added and it was best decision we made. We absolutely loved the extras that came along with this: VIP beach area, late check out, vintage lounge/bar area. The staff were so friendly and made you feel at home and like family. His service was to higher standard. Rosa at the buffet lounge was great too, so friendly and knew her guests by name or by what they prefered to drink by her 2nd time seeing them. Julissa at the Oceanview grill was amazing too. The grounds were well manicured and clean always. Loved our room, we had an oceanview on the 1st floor. Gran Ventana is an expectional place that truly makes you want to come back again and again.

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Disappointment at the Resirt

Stayed at Emotions in Puerto Plata and I was very disappointed with the room I was staying in. The TV didn’t have much English channels, the few that it had didn’t work properly. Wasn’t able to use the Iron to iron my clothes just kept leaking. The worst of all was waking up in the morning with my room flooded with water after rain falls. To say the least I was very disappointed. I was eventually moved to another room where the door frame was coming off and the door could not lock. My son had to come and push the frame back in its space for me to be able to shut the door to go to sleep. The next day I left came back door couldn’t open, we had to call for help which came pretty quickly, which I appreciated the battery was dead in the door fob. Let’s just say I was happy to leave the resort. In the plus side I must say the staff were very friendly especially in the restaurants annd buffet.. The cleaners also were very nice just didn’t speak much English but that was fine. The worst part of my vacation was the rooms. The beach was great, the pool not very clean at times. Would I go back to Emotions? NO WAY, the rooms I stayed in were nightmares. Needs upgrade Thank you

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Amazing resort

This resort was absolutely amazing. The food was great, the rooms are nice and cozy. The entertainment was truly amazing. They had salsa dance lessons, games in pool, beach activities, nightly shows. Some of them were so funny. We did some parasailing on resort as well as snorkeling. I will definitely go back again. Loved it!!

This is my first time visiting the Caribbean. I have never visited an "all inclusive resort" before and I was impressed with the calibre of service they offered. Being a strict Vegetarian, I thought i would face obstacles but rather the chef/staff were more than accommodating to meet the needs of my family of 3. There were new varieties of food every day —fresh fruits galore!! Room service: Daily a cleaning staff would bring fresh towels and make up our bed and place 2 bottles of water in the bar fridge. I had booked the "Amnesia junior suite" with 2 double beds, with a sofa. The suite is very comfortable and you dont feel cramped in . The wash room is nice. Showerstall was perfect for those hot days to cool off. Bars: beach side and pool side No words to describe how friendly and hospitable they are to tourist. They will make any drink you like. Day or not night.. No end of liquors, as if it were flowing like water!! Cafe shop: At this resort, there is a coffee shop. Many North American tourists enjoy their dose of caffeine in the morning. The cafe would make any speciality coffees that you may fancy. Daily I would come over and get my Cappacinino and my Crossisant. Very popular spot during the day. I would like to recommend if they can extend the hrs from until 9pm rather than 5pm. In the evening,there are some of us,who enjoy a nice Night cap in the evenings. Amazing fresh pastries made daily! Beach: The team called "Viva Vibe" are staff they help with any water sports one would like to entertain while at the beach. Almost daily we would ask the staff to come an accompany us (family ) each in separate kayaks and help us navigate through the chopping waves of the Alantic Ocean. VIVA ViBE are responsible for entertainment at the resort. They perform the live shows, the night dancing and the Disco. The staff are highly skilled and very helpful. I love their "service attitude".Always smiling and will to help a helping hand if one facing any problems rendering the services at the resort. Excellent service ( 5 stars). La carte Dining: We had the pleasure of attending only 2.The rest were fully booked.The chef would prepare speciality dish for us, because we were Vegetarian. One night were had Italian.Best Italian food I have ever tasted!! Only issue is that spots fill out very quickly first thing in the morning. Can the management open up another restaurant on the premises to have 2 la carte dining at the same time with 2 separates cusines?? Everyone would like that intimate fine dining experience with "wine ,dine and candle light setting" but those slots fill up quickly!!

Upon arrival we were sent to what looked like a prison cell (not actually) but it was so small, no balcony, no sitting spot- the Bliss room. We got moved the next day, to a suite and it was much better. The resort is very small. Food was pretty decent sort of the same things each day. Small pool, so it seemed crowed at times. Wifi kicks you off often so you have to constantly sign back in. Nothing to do at night unless you wait for the disco to open at 11pm, we didn't check it out! Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Lovely beach and grounds!

Rooms were okay, bathrooms could use some updating. Comfortable bed. Beach was beautiful with lots of space. Pool was okay - crowded. Full buffet with attentive staff. Nightly entertainment to suit your taste. 24 hour sports bar - great for early morning coffees etc. Wonderful array of coffees and pastries at the specialty coffee shop. Tried the specialty restaurants - good steak house but don't expect a leisurely meal. No activities but we knew that when we selected the place so no com [... read more]plaints. Check-in/out staff should set realistic expectations for customers who have concerns - i.e. TV didn't work for 3 days, but only after the 2nd follow up did they offer to switch rooms - not what you want to do when you only have 1 day left of vacation. Internet availability - no sign ins/passwords. For older couples looking for a nice place to chill, this is a good spot!

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Not up to expectations

The grounds were nicely kept but due to the lack of service, that alone turned me off. The food and rooms were a 7/10 for me. The entertaining could have been better. It wasn’t crazy busy so I would have expected better service than what we received. They had water stations set up on each room block and had glass jug for you to fill up daily but can’t bring that to beach so I would suggest bringing your water bottle to take with you as they don’t have bottles in the fridge.
