Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Bahia El Perfecto!

Our stay was truly memorable. This hotel excelled when it came to service! The common areas and pools we clean and maintained all day long. The restaurants were excellent - we really enjoyed the variety and quality of food. Our room was perfect for our family of 4 and the twice a day tidy and towels were really appreciated. I would recommend and already have done so to friends and family! Great job Bahia team!

The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Great small resort!

The resort was clean and well maintained. The food was good in the buffet but pretty much the same each day. I only liked the meddeterrain a la carte restaurant. We spent most of our time at the main pool and it was great. Just the right amount of entertainment. Overall I would recommend this resort as a great place to relax for a week.

The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Great place to take a vacation

The resort was very clean and well maintained. Food was excellent with lots to choose from. Staff was very helpful and always greeted you with a smile. Never had a problem finding loungers at the pool or the beach. Only issue we had was no hot water in the shower the last two days of our trip.

Bahia Principe Escape Samana: Great place to relax

Stay November 2017 The good and the bad, the average. GOOD. Service was great, food had great presentation, drinks were great, the whole hotel was very clean, views were great, butler service and animation staff put forth a huge effort BAD, Nothing to do outside the hotel, only one pool at the hotel, and on our stay the weather was TERRIBLE. The horses did not look well, the falls were beautiful and refreshing, the lunch was great, cigar factory was educational, the zip-lining was the highlight of the tour, the team were funny and very helpful. Highly recommended.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Best Choice For What We Wanted

Having been to DR several times, Cheryl and I were looking for a great resort in a different location with an awesome walking beach and great snorkelling. Our agent, O'Neil Graham made suggestions that exactly fit our bill. The hotel, food and especially the beach was amazing and we would definitely return. The resort is only missing two things: music of a latin flavour i.e. guitarists and a smoothie bar for breakfast meals.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Good choice!

Very relaxing resort. The rooms were well kept (ours I believe was a little older - not the Select Package). Food was great, with a great variety. The rooms are close to the pool and beach with plenty of space to find a cozy spot. Be warned though that this resort is out of tge way - about an half and half ride from the airport, and not much to do around the resort. That being said, great location to relax. Props to the staff for putting together a great New Years Eve dinner and party.

There were issues with the groupings of our three families for flight , seat assignments to and from Samana; confusion due to bookings for William the Sunquest rep with transfer to the Resort as well as problems with room location at the Resort. Upon her return from holidays, Teresa did call the Resort to confirm our requests. In spite of the challenges faced, we did enjoy the holiday at this Resort celebrating our 50th, our daughter's 20 and our son's 15th wedding anniversaries. El Portillo is a good family type resort.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Lovely resort !

This was our second stay at Christmas at this picturesque little resort. Beach is beautiful, seating areas are the nicest I’ve ever been to in over 30+ years of travel. Highly recommend to families. Staff was wonderful and always willing to take extra care !

Cayo Levantado Resort: Simply wonderfull

This exotic Island has a feeling of euphoria . The vegetation and beautiful beach was tranquil and very relaxing. I would return anytime. It is unfortunate that they are going back to a family resort. The entire place screams ADULTS and I see no way they can profit from this decision. We booked through Trip Central and were very happy with the experience. Like I said , I will return ...but only if Adult Only.

I will come back again is great place the people are very nice the hotel is very clean and the service it is amazing the beach is paradise, the food is great the only problem is the time we have to drive to get to the hotel

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Good but not great.

This was our first experience at an all inclusive resort and we had seen several good reviews for this one. Our time at the resort was good but not enough for us to say we would definitely return. The beach was beautiful and the kids water park was fun for our kids. Most of the staff do not speak English so knowing a little Spanish helps. We found that tipping the staff did not make any difference in the level of service. The service was good at best, especially at the buffet and restaurants. [... read more] It seemed like they were understaffed at times and we waited a while to have water/coffee/wine/etc. served or refilled. There was a good variety in the food at the buffet and it was replenished quickly. The Italian and Mediterranean restaurants were very good, but the Brazilian one was a disappointment. This was the one with the best reviews so we picked it for a family celebration dinner. The service was terrible. Not enough servers so we waited a long time for food. They were however very prompt to bring us the bill for the champagne we ordered. All-in-all a good resort, almost great.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Lovely Resort

We visited this resort the week before Christmas 2017 with a family of four. We would highly recommend this resort but ensure you book the select vacation--it was worth the extra money. We stayed in the Oceanview Villa "Select"- this has a queen size bed with 2 twin beds in the loft area. The Villas are the only rooms that have not been redone at this resort. Beach was absolutely amazing! Spent all of our time there. Pool is quite small with a lot of kids in it. Food and bars close early, food was quite good and so were drinks. Bars were understaffed. Room was large and clean but beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. Check in was beyond ridiculous...have never seen anything like it before. Had to have our door mechanism replaced and lost the morning stuck in our room. Zero room service. The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Friendly, accommodating resort

Very pretty, serene, resort on a hill top with spectacular views of the bay. Room was spacious, no ambient noise at night and housekeeping was great. All in all this resort has it all from friendly reception staff, to a nice selection of food at breakfast, dinner and supper. Bar area inside and outside was very spacious and inviting.

The views were absolutely stunning here! The food is very good and the resort is nice and well maintained. Very clean!!! Everyone is so friendly! One thing I would say is there are a lot of stairs which we liked because it was good exercise (HAHA) but if you are elderly and can't do many stairs this may be difficult. They do offer 24 hour shuttle service though which helps a lot. Just have to call front desk and they send it in a timely manner!

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Beautiful location

When I selected this resort I saw that an airport was 34 km away. I found out after that this airport is only used for Saturday flights. The result was an added four hour cross country trek in a van, after arriving 183 km from the resort. The resort staff are very friendly, with most just learning to speak English. The rooms are clean and comfortable, although our jacuzzi tub did not work. A variety of daily activities are available, and nightly entertainment shows are a nice way to spend the e [... read more]venings. The beach party was interactive and the best of the bunch. The resort has a long beach, that the staff maintain well. The a la cartes give you way more food than needed, and the buffet also encourages overeating, with so much food available. If you decide to go, make sure to book a Saturday flight!

Viva V Samana by Wyndham: If you want peace and quiet with little crowds....

Viva Wyndham Samana is the resort for you. Only 144 rooms. Everything within walking distance. Beautiful beaches, clean property. Basic but clean rooms. Main floor rooms have a small 'pool' included, worth the extra. They have a few activities, but not the place to go for nightlife, or shows. Food is alright but not outstanding. Staff is friendly. The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Good Food-stay away from the Ala Carte-bad guest service experience

The buffet was good, excellent choices of fish, waitstaff were quick to clean up and top up your water/coffee/wine. A different story at the Ala Carte, orders were messed up, wait staff in a hurry/seems agitated or rude, quality of food was bad. Evening shows were great and there were activities by the pool from 10-6 everyday. We had a delay in getting our rooms upon checking in and the guest service agent was hesitant to explain about the activities available at the hotel despite having no line [... read more] behind us. He kept asking us to ask our Transat agent. Dont buy the VIP lounge voucher offered by Transat as the agent(Merieve=Canadian from Quebec) claimed that there will not be a/c nor decent food in the airport, however, we were just fine and there was a duty free shop and a decent place to eat. I slipped and fell on the hallway over a puddle of water. My husband went to the front desk to alert them so they can clean up and to see if I can get some help. On the way he met Merieve (Transat agent) and they both went to the front desk. There both of them claimed that I might be faking it. I would think that being a Canadian you should know better. First, you ensure the guest is alright, then you clean up the puddle so that no others fall. Instead, they make an audacious statement. Shame on you both Merieve and Danny! This has definitely affected my overall experience both with the hotel and with Transat. I was on vacation to relax not to swindle Pesos

Cayo Levantado Resort: 10 days in the sun

This was our 3rd time in DR. We only stay in adult only resorts. Before my hotel review please note: 4 hour transfer from Puerto Plata airport to the hotel + 3.5 hour flight from Toronto West Jet airport agents in Puerto Plata barely speak English. Hotel: fairly nice rooms - it was very humid in December and our clothes despite AC felt dump all the time. One annoying feature - every time patio/balcony door was open AC was resetting to 27C. Service: definitely not 5 stars. Everyone is looking for tips, even for mediocre/poor service. Beach/pool waiters were ok. Food: Good quality in all restaurants as well as in a buffet. Entertainment: So, so. We went to random 3 shows and did not bother after a while. We did not go on any trips except privately to Samana. USD 40 for a return taxi trip.Prices in Samana stores are 60% lower than in a hotel shop. Good security on site.

Cayo Levantado Resort: Absolutely Outstanding

This hotel exceeded expectations at all levels. The room was spacious, clean, and well provisioned. We received an upgrade. Our butler, Gabriel, saw to our every need and anticipated anything we could have wanted. The entire staff went out of their way to be helpful. Everyone was friendly in a genuine manner. The restaurants had varied menus and every meal was delicious and well presented. The buffets had a wide selection of food to appeal to every taste. The pools and beaches are lovely and not crowded. There are staff around who will bring you drinks whenever you want them as you relax in a lounger. Nightly entertainment is well organized and interesting.
